Twisted Spoke was the perfect place to stop after hiking SoCo Falls! It's got a great mix of unique decorations(T least for Halloween time) , friendly staff, and really good food -- the kind of spot that feels like a local favorite. They've got beer and wine on the menu too, which hit the spot after a day on the trail. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed, and everyone we met there was super welcoming. I went up to Maggie Valley from Cherokee to go back to Frankie's but they were closed due to being understaffed and ended up at Twisted Spoke, which was a pleasant surprise. This restaurant literally sits on the side of a mountain. If it wasn't raining, I would have sat outside or on the porch. Twisted Spoke is clean, casual, friendly, and simple. In regards to the latter, every alcoholic drink is $5-from beer to wine to more. I have never seen that before in my life but I think it's awesome. There is nothing more brilliant in business than simplicity--consumers love it. For food, I got the Meatball Splash. It's really a Meatball Hero without the bread (Meatball Splash isn't on the menu). It's three medium-sized meatballs (at best) with sauce and three pieces of garlic bread. The meatballs were solid, and I usually don't love garlic bread but will eat it, but this might have been the best garlic bread I've ever had. I don't know why I liked it so much. If you're in the Maggie Valley/Cherokee area, definitely go. Also, a couple of other tips.... One, the food in Maggie Valley absolutely blows away the food in Bryson City. It's not even close! So, if you're heading to the NC side of the Smokies and food is a big factor for you, stay in Maggie Valley, not Bryson City. Also, if you're staying in Cherokee and head up to Maggie Valley (or vice versa), don't take take 19. Instead, take the Blue Ridge Parkway. It only adds one minute to your trip and is a way better experience! Enjoy! read more

Food quality / price (value) rating 10. The aosphere is country road tavern. Beer license only. The menu has a bunch of unusual offerings. We split an order od Southwestern Egg Rolls which were served very hot with our chosen aioli sauce. We also split a very good, large and beautifully presented Lobster Roll at a bargain price. Most items served here are house made including the fries, lobster salad, and some deluxe desserts. The manager, Lisa, took time to answer our questions and explained the finer points of the venue including their offering of live rock and roll entertainment on Saturday nights. They have a small but cool outdoor seating area overlooking the Smoky Mountains. Would definitely recommend to any passersbys. read more

My husband and I made 2 trips to Twisted Spoke in Maggie Valley, NC today. Our first and last!!! We were disappointed as soon as we walked in because although there was no one waiting before us it took quite a while to be greeted, even longer to be seated. We actually considered leaving. After finally being seated it was another wait for our server to take our order. Considering about half of the tables were vacant we couldn't understand the delay. Once the food arrived we were shocked at the portion size considering the price that was charged. For $14 for a single sandwich, which did not include a side, we expected to at least get a larger portion. The bun was just slightly longer than a hot dog bun but not thicker. You would think it would at least be a hoagie sized bun. I ordered the Grant Twisted Chicken sandwich and it was covered with Parmesan which was not mentioned in the description. It really overpowered the taste. My husband's opinion of the steak sandwich was that is was flavorless. The only reason I gave the restaurant a 3 on rating is because it is a nice rustic looking place that appeals to the eye. read more

Headed up Hwy. 19 to Twisted Spoke. We were greeted and seated on the porch. The view was beautiful and we even had the opportunity to see an elk go by. Amazing views, dog friendly patio, wonderful service/servers. I really hate to give a place with wonderful employees a less than stellar review, as lately it seems to be hard to find good staff. Twisted spoke definitely has good staff. And awesome views, and right off the parkway, close to the train station, iykyk. And some of the menu items were really good. (Lobster roll and meatballs). But some just were not, especially for the price. So here's my tip. Go for the views. Go for the drinks. Go because it's dog friendly (if you have your dog with you or you want to see other doggies). Ask what's made in house. That's the good stuff. The chicken nuggets or other fried/crispy chicken items/salad I would pass on unless for a kids meal. read more

Amazing meatball sub!! The owner popped over to tell us about the restaurant. When I complimented the meatballs and sauce he said it was a family recipe for generations. Truly some of the best I've ever had. They make the meatballs and sauce fresh every morning. You can tell there's a lot of love that goes into it. We also had our dog with us and they were so accommodating. There were plenty of outdoor spots to sit and even two indoor tables for people with pets. Since it was so sunny out it was nice we could sit inside with our dog. That's rare and really nice to have on hot days. This place deserves to be on drivers diners and dives!! Weather permitting, hit the back deck. It's a small area with big views. The staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive but to be fair we were eating lunch at 3 pm. They did hustle but there were only 2 waitresses. Cheesy broccoli bites were good and there were 5 pieces in the basket. The chili was a special and I thought it was really good. My hubs had Rich's beef sandwich, which we heard someone else also order, and that was good as well. Bottom line: thumbs up. read more

I had just dropped off the Parkway and was headed back to the motel and decided I needed a snack to tide me over until dinner. So I stopped in and the Twisted Spoke. Very nice looking place with friendly staff. I just wanted to pick something up to go that I could easily stuff into a saddlebag. So I settled on the Homemade Meatball Splash. It came with 3 meatballs, 3 pieces of garlic toast, and some extra marinara, that's the splash, I guess. Dayum those meatballs were tasty, same with the toast and sauce. Amazing mountain views, good service, and really good food. I had the lobster roll sandwich. Really delicious. Everything is made on site and reasonably priced! There was 20+ of us tennis players and they handled the group perfectly. What a great addition to our little town. It may be a mile out from town but the views, food and service makes it totally worth it. This is not a biker gig. We were there for the first time yesterday. The restaurant and the view are amazing. We sat in the screened off n porch (thank goodness! Bees everywhere ..not the restaurant's fault). They also have an outside area and a huge window beside dining area. I ordered the beef sandwich. It would have been wonderful if the beef had any seasoning at all. The roll was perfect. The provolone was perfectly melted. But the beef had no flavor at all. I saw some salads on n my way in that were gorgeous! I ordered the shredded chicken salad to go. I ate that today. Again. The meat was flavorless. The salad itself was to die for. But the meat you can't even taste. Seasoning the n the meats would improve these dishes 100 percent! read more

This place is a hidden gem. The menu may look somewhat limited but each of the items is outstanding. You can tell that they are cooked on site, with care, and fresh every day. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The views are on the right side of the road for the most outstanding mountain views from any restaurant in Maggie Valley (most are on the opposite side of the road with a view of the Hwy 19 itself). Finally, save room for dessert because the owner makes more than half of them herself and they are better than your Mom made at home. read more

Cool views, food is ok at best. Barely any taste on the Au jus. Beef was dry. Minimal menu. Staff was timely and welcoming. Ingredients seem to be the basic fare from a national food brand / truck. Tried Twisted Spoke for the first time. Food was excellent - Chicken Quesadilla was delish - homemade dipping sauces 5 star - fries aren't your typical long fries, cute little curls (not curly) "partial C shapes give you a "handle" for dipping. My friend had chicken fingers and were delicious as mlm Waitress kept checking back with us refilling our drinks and suggested the best dipping sauces The owner kept checking the area but did not introduce himself but was busy helping buss food and clearing tables. However, when we left he talked with us a while and was very cordial. The absolute BEST part of the meal was the fantastic view. Can't wait to see it in the fall! read more

The Twisted Spoke far exceeded my expectations. My boyfriend and I had a table full of food, as we knew we needed to try several dishes. We shared the tempura Brussels sprouts and rosemary fries. The glaze on the sprouts was very good and the fries were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The garlic aioli was super good with the fries. I had the lobster salad with a combination of the creamy lemon and rosemary vinaigrette dressings... oh so, so, so, so good. I lived in Boston for a period of time and this lobster salad was the best I've had. Boyfriend got the lobster roll and agreed it was super delicious. We live about 30 minutes away and will absolutely travel back to Maggie Valley to eat again. The service is great - very friendly waitress and the owner is a good guy.
