The roast pork bun is the new burger. You can't beat lunch for $3 these days. Always fresh. Always tasty. Always satisfying. You could eat the pineapple roast pork bun, which is like eating a roast pork bun with a pineapple cookie on top. Or choose the snow covered bun with the sweet white cream on top. I've yet to taste the green tea pineapple bun, but iI will one day since I come here once a week during lunch break. The buns are the best part of my day. read more

Tasty big hot buns! This is the first grandpa Chen spots that I've tried, and it did not disappoint. They're famous for their pineapple char siu buns, which were worth the hype. We also tried the pineapple bun with egg yolk, both of which we enjoyed a lot. Normally the egg yolk buns are a bit more salty, but I didn't mind the sweet take on this bun. Only $2.50-$2.95 per bun, such a great price! The store is kept nicely, and there is parking in the back. The workers there were very nice. read more

The egg tart and pork bun is absolutely delicious. Come early in the morning for fresh, warm and toasted food. Although I think the service can be better, but cannot expect so much from a small family operations. Simple interior design and with easy to read menu on monitor. read more

I love pineapple roast pork buns but refuse to schlep all the way to Chinatown for the famous ones. I'm so glad that we now have Grandpa Chen in this area to get our fix. The buns are fresh, have a nice crisp and are filled with the perfect amount. I also appreciate that the filling isn't mostly pork fat. They also have a nice selection of baked and steamed items. The shu mai are plump and juicy! read more

Fresh Chinese buns that are still warm. Buns are kept in warm displays, got the pinapple pork buns and they have a good ratio of pork fillings and bread. Pineapple skin ontop was flakey and crusty. Egg tart were toasty and not too sweet. Service was quick and fast. Small area with table and seating. Parking lot in back or metered parking in front. Near mta bus stop Q27. read more

I really wanted to like Grandpa Chen, especially since they've been opening up multiple locations and people have been comparing their buns to Mei Lai Wah but unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy it. I came a little later in the day so there weren't many options left. I got a few of the pineapple buns and also some refrigerated pork buns and red bean buns. The pineapple bun was fresh so it was still warm and not bad. Pretty fluffy bread and the crust was nice and flakey with a hint of sweetness. Not the best I've ever had but good enough to get your fix since there aren't many Chinese bakeries in the area. What I didn't enjoy were the refrigerated buns. I steamed them, as you should with those types of buns, and it was very lacking in both flavor and texture. The bread itself was one of the worst I've had. The texture was tough, not airy and light. I was really disappointed by it. Since the pineapple bun was good, maybe only their fresh buns are good? Not sure but also don't want to test out their refrigerated buns again. I hope they improve the recipe. read more

I was mocked by the older lady and the younger guy with glasses this morning around 9am (October 3, 2026) after my purchase. I went in to order a few buns and a drink. The total was around $24.15. I was looking for pocket change to avoid getting 85 cents change but could not find my coins, so I decided to use my credit card. The lady ran my card. As I leave the store, I hear the lady said in Chinese which translates to "No honey (no significant other), No money, No cash". At the time I was not wearing my wedding band so she probably assumed I am single and unmarried. Felt very insulted and will never ever step foot in this place again!! read more

Ordered a pack of steamed buns with meat. It takes less than 10 minutes to steam and it tastes like it was freshly bare. The Inside tastes like the inside of a soup dumpling. For a steamed meat bun it's pretty good. The bun itself was fluffy and soft. The inside contained meat and Chinese sausage, meat chunk and egg. read more

The famous roasted pork pineapple bun is okay. The peanut sesame pineapple bun is like a mix of tang yuan and pineapple bun. I like that it has different textures but it gets too sweet if I keep eating.. Cash is preferred and likely cheaper than credit card. read more

This is the third store from Grandpa Chen. Always like their roasted pork pineapple bun $2.95. BOGO promotion is over by now but we went during the promotion period and it was a good deal. A line forms especially on the weekends during promotion. Price: pineapple bun $2.5 Roast pork bun $2.5 and toasted pork pineapple bun $2.95. Other bakery items are available but above are the most popular ones. When we got there, the buns were warm and fresh. The buns overall were more sticky than I would like. Management actually explained to us that they didn't have enough time to let the yeast rise. Quality will improve as they are more used to the new opening. Will return. read more

great location with a solid parking lot. Came mother day and got a handful of stuff all fresh and right out the oven. They were a little too fresh as the bun didn't settle and the server should have packed it in a box but none the less it was bomb. I got 6 buns and 2 specialty buns (matcha and black sesame) they were all a hit and all tasted good the next few days. Place is very clean and quite expensive but its just the norm for the area and it being pretty new. Compared to the little neck location its about the same in terms of pricing and taste, although I like this location as I can get other stuff as its all in the same parking lot. Would come again read more

The Springfield location opened up today. I went early to take advantage of the BOGO. Limit 6 per person which means you can buy 6 and get 6 free. They were out of the pineapple BBQ pork buns so I was disappointed. Picked up a dozen of the regular BBQ buns. They are doughier and smaller than the little neck location. The filling taste the same. The location does have some tables and seats. They are not as good as the little neck location. Will wait a bit and try again. read more

One of those low-key spots that never disappoints. Grandpa Chen is all about fresh, no-frills Chinese bakery goodness. Their char siu bao is the star pick, it's soft, fluffy bread with a juicy, savory-sweet BBQ pork filling that's best enjoyed warm. The pineapple buns are equally solid, with a crisp, buttery top and soft interior. Everything tastes fresh, like it just came out of the oven. Prices are reasonable, service is quick, and it's the perfect grab-and-go spot when you're craving something comforting and nostalgic. If you're in the area and love classic Chinese bakery items, this place is a must. Simple, traditional, and done right. read more

ALRIGHT SO I decided to go back to this Grandpa Chen bakery location today because maybe as some time passed by the char siu buns would improve and I also thought perhaps the quality of the buns had to do with the huge promotion the store had since they recently opened and a lot of people and consumers wanted them and the demand exceeded the supply so I gave them a second chance hoping that was the case cuz they were new. NO NO NO NO!!! It was literally THE SAME AS BEFORE!!! It wasn't crowded today and no long lines as it was during the promotion and they had all the products today and we weren't told we had to wait 1 hour for the buns. BUT this wasn't the main concern or main topic I am talking about with u guys today. The char siu bun itself was UNDERCOOKED... AGAIN!!! The filling was pasty and the dough was undercooked AGAIN!!! And it was still small I mean come on man I thought as time went on things would get better but the buns are still the same as when I got them during the promotion. Truly still a marketing and promotional hoax!!! read more

Grandpa Chen - The char siu bun is still undercooked. The dough and filling are undercooked and pasty!!! COME ON MAN!!! AGAIN!!! - Bakeries Near Me - Queens, New York

I'm so excited that Grandpa Chen opened up near me! There's a parking lot here, and honestly I have no complaints about their baos. Their cha siu pineapple buns are great - sure, maybe not the *best of all time*, but pretty dang good for not having to go to Chinatown. And don't sleep on their egg tarts! They're really flaky and eggy- I even order it as the desserts for my parties rather than cake. I love coming here to get a comfort snack. This is a no frills, OG HK style bakery, complete with an auntie working the shop, and I wouldn't change it one bit! read more

Tried their new spot. Long lines as expected with the bogo. I would say the char siunbao filling was a massive improvement since my last try at their northern blvd spot. No more soy sauce heavy watery gravy. Felt closer to a real char siu bao filling. Flavor is almost there and is now comparable to other Chinese bakeries in the area. The bao(bread) was undercooked but fixed by putting them in the oven for a few minutes at home. Raw dough bits isn't something you'd want if you were eating these straight from the shop. Given the line and the ability for them to keep up with their bogo demand, I can see why it happened. read more

Hit or miss. I usually get what they're known for but kids don't eat exotic items so stuck with what's safest option they offered... hot dog bun. Quite disappointed, not sure what happened... Cute little shop. Went at noon, and they were already sold out of pork buns, and chicken sticky rice in lotus leaf. They only had the refrigerated pork buns. Just purchased the pineapple pork buns. The pineapple pork buns was okay. Quick fast service. Maybe they just sell out fast. read more

Love this place, so happy it opened so close by! My family and I got pork buns and pineapple buns

Came here on two separate occasions, got a pineapple bun, egg tart, red bean pastry and a taro pastry. The flavors are all there, it's subtly sweet, but they gotta let these goods sit in the oven for another 3 minutes or so. All of them were underbaked. The bread gets gummy as you chew it. I'm only leaving this because I would love for there to be a local chinese bakery and for this business to last a while. So please, bake all these goods for a couple minutes longer! read more

Grand opening have a BOGO promotion on char siu, pineapple, and pineapple char siu buns. That's nice but the buns are small comparing to other Grandpa Chen locations. Their non promotion buns seem to be regular size. The buns were good but IMO that's bad business practice to promote BOGO but shrink the size of the buns. read more
