The park is so clean with plenty of areas to chill, as well as grills and benches to hang out and BBQ! I came here most recently for Independence Day to watch the fireworks show at 9pm. I really appreciate them implementing security checks prior to entering the show since last year! It was very crowded but there was plenty of space to enjoy the beautiful fireworks! The show lasted around 15 minutes and the fireworks were so big and pretty! Really enjoy how there were food stands and entertainment prior to the firework show as well!

The day I paid a visit it had just rained a bit in the afternoon then cleared out for the rest of the evening. Up above this hillcrest on any given day I suspect would be ideal for watching the sunset or perhaps flying a kite. There was a consistent light breeze which felt refreshing, free from the congested traffic down below. Among the offerings include a baseball field, a modern jungle gym, basketball courts, and tennis courts. Specifically, tennis takes priority over pickleball. Further up the hill there's a small Japanese garden with a gazebo which while a bit worn out has a lot of charm. Street parking was plentiful and it never got really crowded. One thing I noticed was that my mobile network became somewhat spotty, but 'tis a minor inconvenience. If I'm free, I'd love to visit more often.

Barnes Park Offerings: 1) Pickleball Courts (6) /Tennis (1): 2 month's ago they repaved and installed permanent pickleball nets. There's only one tennis court now... haha Pickleball is taking over! Pickleball courts are closed starting 5/4/2026 to 5/12/2026. Will reopen on 5/13/2026. 2) Baseball/Softball Field 3) Community Center 4) Gymnasium: Indoor basketball and pickleball courts (7pm - 10pm) 5) Restrooms: They're available. Not really clean though. 6) Teqball table: Don't see people use this table to play. I guess I'll watch this on youtube for now. Hopefully, one day.... I'll be able to see this sport in real life. GRP features two lighted baseball fields, picnic facilities, restrooms, lighted tennis/pickleball courts, children's playground, a community room, museum and observatory and measures approximately 18 acres. Quite huge park, but you wouldn't know it from first glance. Very clean and well kept. Two parking lots are available. East side of the park on Orange Ave is where you'll find the picnic shelters, larger playground, community room, historical museum, basketball courts and observatory. West side of the park on Alhambra Ave is closer to the smaller playground and larger baseball diamond. As for the 1 full tennis and 1 full tennis + 4 pickleball shared courts, they are located on Orange Ave near the intersection of Orange Ave and Metro Dr. If you're coming from the north on Orange Ave, drive past the entrance of the park and go up the hill just a bit. The courts will be on your right. Very small parking lot in front of the courts. Street parking is also available. Lighted courts are first come first serve. For pickleball, permanent lines are available, but you'll have to bring your own net (BYON). If you plan to bring food/drinks, be careful of ants. They will find them LOL. Our work group had so much fun. We met some new pickleballer friends as well. Definitely a great place to play some amazing pickleball. Thank you GRP!

It's actually listed as a local historic landmark for the City of San Gabriel too! Did I feel safe? Yes. This park is popular! There's a couple tourists and many families enjoying the grassy fields. What utilities? There's a very unique "Monster Park" in the back. Children and families were sliding through whales or lighthouses; others were climbing and hugging dolphins. This location also has a standard playground in the front, a gated baseball field, scenic walking pathway, public park exercise equipment area, plenty of grassy fields, restroom, pet waste dispenser locations, and many public picnic tables with shade & grilling areas. What are the negatives? There are no tennis courts or basketball courts. Also, I noticed that many of the pet waste dispenser spots had ran out of plastic bags. Overall, Vincent Lugo Park is one of the most remarkable parks that I've ever experienced. It's very clean, beautiful, and memorable. Lots of people with their family and friends plus their furry friends spending a beautiful and sunny weekend at this park. Plenty of benches for parties and all. Children's playground is available. Libary of Books located at the front of the park. Great place to take a comfortable and relaxing stroll in the early morning or evening when it's cooler. Love to be back for more yoga and nice walks! Street parking is available, but may be limited when there are a lot of people. Come here early if possible.

This park has some really amazing concrete play sets in the shapes of sea life and fantasy creatures. I mean, it's hard to pass up the chance to climb on an octopus or slide out of a whale's mouth. These structures are pretty good size and the size of the slides- or the climb to them- might intimidate very young kids. The good news is there is also a more traditional playground in the front of the park- so you have some options. Don't be thrown off that you don't see this playground when you first pull up. YOU MUST WALK DOWN A SHORT PATH TO IT, so don't think you are in the wrong place. Definitely worth the drive to check out. Have fun! Let your kids have fun too. Stop hogging the slides Mom.

There's covered tables I believe you have to reserve. I've come here at night before and there are above lights that keep it well lit. Parking towards the end of the day can be limited because the park is surrounded by homes. It doesn't look like the nicest neighborhood but this little park is so sweet. Don't be surprised to find many residents of the community doing dances and stretches and exercise in the morning. Many older women come in groups and go in walks. And there are people that come and use the smaller basketball court. The playground for the children is also well maintained. I've never used the restroom at that oark but there is one located right in the middle.
