Ohhhh love the open green space!!! Garfield park is a nice little neighborhood park that we enjoyed in the area. It's clean and well-kept. And I liked that the walking path is not close to the street, it's a relatively quieter park. Even though there are plenty of benches in the park, I still saw lots of people bringing their own camping chairs and picnic mats relaxing on the grass. Vibes and atmosphere were so peaceful out there. Good for families and pets. (Yes, dog friendly!) Not to mention, there is also a tennis court and a playground in the park.

We came here with the pooch on a Sunday afternoon in June. The park is plenty big, easy street parking, with lots of grass and tables. There were a few people hanging with their dogs, groups of people having picnics, nice kids' playground. It made for a nice stroll today.

This is a fairly big park hidden in the middle of South Pasadena. I didn't see a parking lot but looked like plenty of street parking. Lots of green grass and a path for you to walk if you wanted to walk laps for your exercise. In the center there is a covered area with tables if you wanted to host a party along with a restroom nearby the party area. Not sure if this is a "dog park" but saw many people hanging out together with their dogs. Nice spot for an afternoon stroll. It was pretty breezy.

The city of south pas needs to act on this ASAP!!!! This is not allowed! Lots of people including myself enjoy going to this park. This homeless guy decided to put up his tent in the middle of a trail!!!

Garfield Park is an old neighborhood park in an old South Pasadena neighborhood. Old isn't bad, it's descriptive. This park and its now tall palm trees have been around for a long time, and they've seen their share of ups and downs, probably good upkeep and disrepair, and changing social norms. Because it's an old park, not everything is overthought the way many parks are nowadays. The paths are both meandering and straight; there's a ravine-ish sort of thing that runs down the middle of the park that even has its own old stone bridge to get over it, but because that ravine isn't full very often, even the connections to both ends of that bridge have been overtaken by time and erosion. When we came on a beautiful weekday, all kinds of people were using the park in different ways. There was a bluegrass group jamming in one of the two larger table areas covered by pergolas. We sat down and listened for a while, and the band was great. Kids were playing in the playground, which unfortunately has added these supposedly safe raised pathways through the sand that make the playground much more dangerous.* People were sitting on benches or on blankets on the grass reading and eating. There were people walking dogs and people riding bikes and playing tennis--or was it pickleball? There's a Little Free Library at one end of the park whose doors are broken. Fix that library, sponsoring Girl Scout troop! Because of the age of the park, some of the concrete can be in various stages of repair, so be sure to watch your step on the paths, especially downhill and around the table areas. The park is larger than it seems at first, but it's not really that big. I love how it fits right into the neighborhood. Some people whose backyards abut the park have gates in their fences and little steps in the park so that they can get there easily. Lucky duckies! *Why? Because the swings are now to close either to the edge of the sandpit or these raised paths, so any kid who wants to vault off the swings at the end will probably get hurt. This is what I mean when I say things are overthought now; we value fake safety over real-life safety. It's more important to teach your kids (or let them learn for themselves) about minor dangers; don't create larger dangers in the name of trying to make childhood completely danger free. It never will be, and kids who grow up without knowing how to recognize and avoid and/or mitigate real danger will be more susceptible to all kinds of dangers, great and small.

Lol I was dragged out to the park this afternoon. It was a odd experience being outside amongst friends again.

Hey guys, earlier this afternoon I was basically dragged from my home by pretty good friends kicking and screaming to goof around with other friends who have also been fully vaccinated and boostered for a rough house game of volleyball at initially EDDIE PARK in South Pasadena just above Huntington drive just beyond the BACK TO THE FUTURE home ... OH! EDGEWOOD!!!! But alas... EDGEWOOD park was pretty darn packed with park goers. So we checked Google maps and discovered that Garfield park wasn't as packed. So picture it, we pull away from the curb as 2 more families arrive at Eddie park and we head up toward Garfield Park to which, it seemed slightly less congested with families. (we had stopped in front of Garfield on Mission st. It seemed to be pretty full nonetheless. We then swung around the next street and headed around the parameter of the park and it seemed less crowded up on the north side of the park and so it was here where we parked and began to set up the volleyball net and began to receive people joining. It was a nice day, one that I hadn't experienced in over 2 years! OMG, has it been that long? Umm nope, even longer since I've been to a grouping of old friends (14 various friends I have not had contact with other than zoom for almost 3 years) ekkk... No wonder it kinda feels like the first day of school as you see friends as you enter the next grade... I have forgotten how incredible this park was. I would bring my little pup here at times and neglected to remember just how friendly everyone was who visited the park. Anyhow, excellent connections with people here and beautiful grounds... as with most parks due to the unfortunate reality of homelessness the restrooms aren't as pleasant as they probably would be. ( stinky reality) Dog friendly park to engage with your very own fury sibling or offspring... oh as well as your 2 legged siblings or offspring too.

Nice family park. Clean and it's a nice place to walk your dog. It's a bit difficult to find parking but not impossible.

    Are there pickleball courts here?

Are we allowed to bring our own grill, & bbq here?

    Can we ride bikes there?

There is a small path so you could potentially ride your bike but I would suggest Lacy park as its bigger and better suited for bikes.

What are the hours? How busy is it Saturdays to be able to find shade under a tree to hang out?

Any idea if they frown upon people bringing pop up tents to the park open area?

How big are the tables at the gazebos?

    Yes

Do the gazebos have power outlets?

There's a big play structure for the kids aged 5 and up, and a smaller play area for under 5. My 4 year old loved playing in the big structure and going down the big blue tube slide. Some children may be hesitant going down the slide, and if so, you'd have to climb all the way down as there's not alternative slide. It could get a bit crowded if there's too many kids in the structure, so parents be forewarned and keep your eyes on your children if they need help while in the structure. There's a good handful of swings, ranging from regular swings to double swings to a round swing where 5 kids can go at the same time! Super fun! The grounds are also all rubber and no sand, which was a bit of a bummer as my child likes to play in the sand. There also a large basketball court next to the playground, and the recreational center next to the courts. We went on a Sunday and the center was closed, so unfortunately we couldn't access the bathrooms. Lots of street parking, but it can probably fill up fast during the popular months.

As other reviewers mentioned in previous posts, there are many homeless people wandering around the park. It was also extremely disturbing that the parents were either oblivious or just looked the other way about the indecent exposure happening right next to where their kids are playing.
