Pirate ship park next to the aquatic center

Came to Brookside park to explore, it's a huge area by the kidspace museum. There are these 2 parks and lots of grassy fields full of shaded picnic tables. There's an aquatic center and tennis courts. The smaller park is next to kidspace museum, has some slides and areas to climb. The larger pirate park is next to the aquatic park. There's a sand pit with a fountain and you can dig for seashell treasures. There's a big play structure to climb and run around! Nice big park and place to spend the day!

I just love the hugeness of Brookside Park. There is an enormous amount of space to walk, picnic, play with your dog, relax, look at birds, or throw a ball around. The grass is lush. The trees provide shade. There are a variety of paths, steps, and trails. Brookside Park has playgrounds, BBQs, clean facilities, and is very well maintained. My pug loves exploring here! Located near the Rose Bowl, Brookside Park is a wonderful place to come to spend an afternoon outside.

A couple of times a year music festivals take over some of brookside and host a lot of vegan options. Mostly on the golf footprint but the entire surrounding area gets congested. Love the food and music coming to Pasadena. Happy Munchies, @aVeganAndHer

A great park in Pasadena near the Rose Bowl. It is clean, huge, and not overly crowded. Not to mention, it has a pirate ship in the playground for kiddos to play. Love that it has a lot of shade and picnic tables/benches throughout the entire park. There is also tennis courts, a kidspace children's museum, and a fitness trail. So much to do, I just adore this park!!

So my friends wanted to meetup at the park and have a little bbq. So he chose a place behind the tennis courts. It has several bbq pits around the picnic tables. The only thing that didn't work for us was the grill as it didn't move so we could pour charcoal into it and adjust the height. Also it was super dirty and I forgot to bring my cleaning brush so we pulled out our portable grill. The overall park was clean and well lit except for the picnic area which was fine because we had our own head lamps and or flashlights. I felt pretty safe of my surroundings and there were plenty of people playing tennis after 7:30pm and people still at the diamond playing softball. Twice we saw law enforcement fly overhead and by that time we were breaking down and headed to our cars. There are a lot of parking spots all around the park. Come and enjoy with your family either it be picnicking or hiking or other things the park has to offer.

Loved this park, so much to do and play with the kiddos. Best thing, music coming from the aquatic center next door.

This park is located right near the decorating place for the floats. It's near the kids space Museum. This ended up being a nice highlight seeing as how the float decorating area was not a very good outing for toddlers! There's two sets of toys one that has swings, and the other has plenty of slides and play area.

Located south of the Rose Bowl stadium adjacent to the aquatic center is brookside park. A buddy of mine brought me here when all the gyms were closed during covid . The park is deceivingly large to the extent that it would be somewhat difficult to see it all in an a day . Brookside has several playgrounds for kids and a large baseball field . The park has many large open grass areas which can be used for sports and recreation. Exercise equipment is scattered throughout. My favorite part of the property is the stone staircase and the pull up bar. Over the last years I've seen a wide range of activities such as folks practicing bagpipes , kids capoeira , choreographed lightsaber fights , low riders and ninjas .. yea ninjas !

We are at this park very often now especially that my lady is always running or biking to practice for upcoming running events. There's plenty of room for everyone. She feels safer riding her bicycle here instead of the dangerous city streets. Even though it feels safe here there has been a few shootings, stabbings, and cars speeding where drivers have died hitting a tree or lamp post. These have been isolated incidents but you have to keep mindful of your surroundings no matter where you go. We participated in the Pasadena Triathlon event which had a great turnout amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

This is our everyday getaway spot. Being cooped up in the house all day, we look forward to coming here to get air and walk around. Love this park. Huge park and a lot of people are here (but in a safe socially distanced capacity). It's nice to hear people laughing and having fun! Lots of parking, lots of space to sit on the grass, throw a ball around. A lot of trails to walk. Love this place.

5 stars all around. I went here for the 11th annual wiggle waggle walk. There is just an abundant amount of space for people to run, dogs to pee, and room for a wicked game of Ultimate Frisbee. The best part about parks is they're free. In this day in age, free is as good as it gets. If I lived in Pasadena, I would frequent this place for picnics, exercise, and just to relax. It's beautiful here. Since I live way too far away I'll have to settle for 12th annual wiggle walk.

Reese's Retreat is the most amazing park for kids I have ever seen. This pirate themed gem is located behind the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center which is near the Children's Museum. Why isn't this place on the map??? Here is more info about it. www.facebook.com/reesesretreat http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/photgraphybyreg08/5678320336/

Ask the Community - Brookside Park

Is this a good place for dogs?

I would suggest no...it's not a wide open flat space. Part of it is really sloped. I'd suggest the field closer to the Rose Bowl, but really I'd suggest Alice's Dog Park on Orange Grove.

Are there BBQ areas that we can enjoy and BBQ in?

Yes there is but very few grills , so I suggest going early to claim your spot

Are we allowed to have a socially distanced picnic? And open on Sundays?

I believe the answer to both of your questions is yes. I've seen picnicers there at tables and also on the lawns. The park is open on Sundays.

    Is there grills?

Yes there are grills in the park but very few so I suggest going early to get a spot/grill

Is the park open on july 4?

    Yea it should be

Just confirming but one never knows...is it ok to set up a portable volleyball net here?

I mean I'm not sure if they allow it but I've seen people set up soccer and volleyball nets & nobody tells them anything so I'd say yea you can set up a volleyball net

I think this hike may have been the most pics I've ever taken in one sitting (well over 350 - but I'm not sharing that many ok lol)!! This is a very easy hike - it can be as long or as short as you want it to be. We did about 6 miles. And it's almost completely flat - AllTrails says 160 feet but my AllTrails recording logged 230 feet - either way it's minimal. There are some optional stairs that have neat views as well. A lot of the trail is rocky and bumpy, and there was a ton of mud bc of all the rain - but still easy. And there's a little trail construction going on but it's easy to maneuver around. It's also a very busy trail. We arrived right before 8am and there was a moderate crowd - not too bad. But by 9am it was pretty packed. Luckily the trail is very wide so it's easy to keep your distance and not feel like you have someone on your heels constantly. There are some really great features on this hike - all sorts of surprises in all sorts of nooks and crannies! There's a huge archery range - who knew?? It's well marked so it easy to stay out of the way and safe. There weren't any archers when we started but tons had assembled when we were leaving! I'll be coming back to watch them next time bc it's such a neat range! There's a "casting pond" which was so totally random and I'd never seen or heard of anything like it before!! It's a huge, shallow "pond" of sorts, with these rings scattered around - I'm guessing it's for people to practice their casting techniques for fishing. The water was super clean too! And the birding - omg don't get me started on the birding wow!! I'm an avid birder and this place was heaven for me! I even managed to catch one of my life-list birds here!! Huge day for me (my fellow birders will understand lol)!! A female Red Shafted Northern Flicker!! Not to mention the Yellow Rumped Warbler, California Scrub Jays, tons of Lesser Goldfinches, Mallards, and House Finches, and even an Oak Titmouse!! It was a smorgasbord of birdies!! Totally unexpected for such an "urban" hike. And then there's the bridges...soooo many bridges concentrated in one area - like 5-6 bridges!! And they're all beautiful - especially with the mountainous backdrops! You can even walk under most of them. The most famous is the Colorado Street Bridge - aka "Suicide Bridge" - kinda cryptic but everyone seems to call it that so you desensitize. You can also walk on this one, which I highly recommend bc it's a true beauty, from above and below. There are numerous trail options along this huge route - looks like it links up to the rose bowl loop too. It's easy to find and has a dirt parking lot - it definitely filled up fast (was full by 10am) but again, it was a Saturday morning. I'll definitely be back anytime I'm needing to do some serious birding!

I've been on a little running kick in 2021 and on a search for more interesting routes near my…read morehouse, I discovered the Lower Arroyo Seco. I've always preferred running on a trail versus cement, so I was so happy to find a soft trail to run on that's not too far from home. I've been twice now and it appears that the trail is an out and back, although there are some river crossings (I think that's what you would consider them) so perhaps you can veer off and make things a little more interesting. I love looking up at the Colorado Street Bridge and getting a change of scenery--Pasadena really is a special place. While you're definitely out in nature, you're also spending a lot of time looking at a wire link fence and the cement river bed. Still, I like that this place is flat (running in the mountain trails near Pasadena seems, well, challenging) and I actually like that there are a fair number of people around since I've grown increasingly fearful of snakes and wildlife as I've gotten older. I've only come on weekdays so it's really not too busy, but do be sure to bring and wear your mask as you will see other people there. There's a parking lot onsite but also a few entries from the street (Arroyo) if you're on foot. I've always run here from my house so I haven't tried the parking situation, but this is a pretty quiet neighborhood and it seems like you could park on the street and walk down if the parking lot was full (although, you might just want to opt for some other sort of excursion if it's that packed during COVID times).
