Zeus and the sand box + restrooms
Chris G.

For me, all a park really needs is a large grass area and a few large trees to provide shade. The grass area is for my dog and the shade is for me!:) Sunnyslope I suppose gets it's name for the simple fact that along the back of the park there is a large dirt "slope" where the sun hits it directly! Hence Sunnyslope? I could be wrong but that's just my guess. The park isn't the biggest park in the world, but for the neighborhood it does it's job well. It's got lots of trees to provide shade, a few canopy type areas with grills. A restroom close to the "sandbox" which has a few slides jungle gyms and a random turtle "climby" thing. There are two full tennis courts and a large open grass area attached to a baseball field. I use the grass area to play fetch with my dog zeus and he loves it! I can throw the ball as hard as I can and it won't get to the other side of the open field, so this gives him some pretty good exercise. Parking is on the street, but is usually pretty sparse so you should be able to find parking out front. 5/5 park for me!

Ask the Community - Sunnyslopes Park

Does anyone know if you have to pay to Reserve the spot to have a party or is it first come serve?

You pay the city of Monterey Park to reserve a spot, so if someone tries to use the area you reserved, they have to move. Otherwise it's first come first served.

Not really clean though. 6) Teqball table: Don't see people use this table to play. I guess I'll watch this on youtube for now. Hopefully, one day.... I'll be able to see this sport in real life. Barnes For Thought: Overall, it's a nice park. Pretty cool that they had enough funding to install permanent pickleball courts. Perhaps the next thing they can fix up is the restrooms.

The good: This was an amazing park with such a cool space…read moretheme. They went hard on the theme and had so many space elements. I've seen rocket ship parks before but this one is the best of them. It's extremely spacious. There are picnic bench areas as well. They also have a bathroom. It's next to a big baseball field and basketball court. There's a smaller play area for age 2-5 and the taller structure for 5-12. There are large grassy field areas. It's a bit hilly. There's plenty of parking in a private lot. I was happy there was no sand nor wood chips so it didn't get messy. The bad: It seems like the overhang or structure for shade above the picnic benches are under construction or removed. The interesting: There's a giant lion statue made of stone that my toddler loved. It's donated from Lion's Club.

This park is a great gathering and refresh place for the community of San Gabriel for leisure exercise nature walks for children and adults alike. There is a couple of playgrounds located inside Vincent Lugo Park, one of which is La Laguna playground with huge animal shaped installments for children to play & explore and a regular playground with swings & climbing/jungle gyms. For adults, there are outdoor exercise equipment, which I saw are located in two separate places.. There are more nooks & crannies for me to explore that I may find in my next visit. Picnic tables are found some shaded some not, bbq grills, too. Additionally, there are covered tables and chairs as well for the community to hold parties or any kind of celebration. Walking paths are available, both cement & ground (clay-like). I noticed that there were a few sets of people doing tai chi-a few of them brought their music to coordinate their movements. It seems like small park tucked away, almost hidden. It's like a nature trail for me. I figure I could cut across the Alhambra Wash path to walk to it next time. Restrooms available, ample parking spaces. Lots of trees, greens. I love this "discovery"

Other than that, great park with sand! So be careful!
