Cascades Park is a great place to hangout at, but lately it's been on a hydration strike (no waterfall). Still, you show up, because the vibes are solid!! It's got that whole sloped setup, so you can climb up, pretend you're earning your post-snack calories, and then chill at the top like you've conquered something. The view's nice, especially if you're holding a boba or street tacos like a true Monterey Park foodie!! At night though? That's when it redeems itself. The lights come on, everything glows, and suddenly it's giving romantic picnic energ even if the waterfall is still ghosting you. read more

I wish I lived near this quaint little park! My friend and I actually drove here with some egg tarts to have a snack but it's not exactly a destination spot. More of, we live in the neighborhood and are so lucky to have this park, type of spot. No playground or even a lot of grass to frolic on. There is parking though if you do want to venture for a little scenic outdoor dining like I did. That being said, it's gorgeous! I could see this being a great spot to take photos or just enjoy a book on one of the benches. There are also some stairs so you could get some steps in if you took a few loops around. The beautifully man-made waterfall is lovely! Peaceful, serene and a lovely asset to Monterrey Park! read more

Found this gem in the middle of the neighborhood right after stopping by Ocean Island for some dim sum (see my review for that spot also). It was a beautiful sunny day, so the water stream was looking stunningly blue. There were people taking professional quinceañera photos and could only imagine how beautiful those photos will turn out. There's a nice grassy area, a long stretch of stairs, or some benches if you wish to take a chill moment to yourself. The sound of the water was very peaceful and serene. Worth coming here if you're in the neighborhood. Parking is just residential street parking, so yes, there's houses right next to this park, so be mindful of noise when visiting. Came upon Cascades Park at the end of my tour & found a moment to reflect on the days events in this serene environment & make a mental note of all that still needs to be done. Although the man made cascades of water was empty while they scrub it clean I found it beautiful and speechless because of energy and vibe I was getting by the people, couples, families & workers who were on lunch enjoying the surroundings as I was. I totally recommend making the trip and visiting the Cascades for your self you will totally dig it & guy's I'm going to give you a pointer if you want a second date bring her here on a picnic with candle lights I guarantee you that you'll definitely will score major points. read more

Cascades Park has been a part of Monterey Park for so long that its city logo is even based off of it. Even though years go by and the city itself undergoes changes, this park still stands as it decades ago and is definitely a great place to stop and rest while taking in the city view from up top. You can find many stairs sloped in a way that'll be a fun and quick challenge to go through in order to reach the top, parking at the base as well as up on the hill which would require you to go through side streets first, and that beautiful mini waterfall that lights up during the night. Note what you see is what you get. It's more of a sightseeing place rather than an actual park so no playground, no restroom, and no picnic tables (though I did see a group of friends chilling on the grass). read more

Very neat small local park with a cascading fountain gently going down a hill. Large stair steps go up on both sides of the fountain and it gives a really lovely view down on the city. The hill itself isn't too steep and during the night there are some color changing lights at the fountain itself which makes it very nice. Even at night there were some people in their cars enjoying the view, some bicyclers, some joggers, and also some people hanging out, so pretty chill and safe feeling. read more

Found this small neighborhood oasis through Yelp search and really like this little park. Park is hidden within a residential neighborhood that stretched through the high hill top. The cascading waterfall is the main focal point of this small park with grassy areas along the side for people to lounge and picnic surrounding the waterfall; it is really serene and tranquil~had such a great time here. read more

There's plenty of street parking. The sound of flowing water is soothing for the soul and there's plenty of grass for you to lay your mat on and enjoy. A nice, quaint and quiet park to get away from the city bustle and noise. It's very clean and kept spotless, much like the other parks in the city. The waterfall is a treat as well- it's a beautiful local landmark that never fails to amaze me at its existence in the heart of Monterey Park! The city views from the top are amazing and unparalled. You can see the hills across the way and a large swath of the city below as well. There's ample parking in the streets above and below the park, as well as on El Portal Rd. Be warned that these are residential areas and there's a constant flow of people and traffic through the narrow streets. The steps and hills are a great workout addition if you're looking for something to spice up your exercise routines! read more

It was my very first visit in the city of Monterey Park when I signed up and got in for a Yelp event. I thought it's about time to explore the city so I gave myself a lot of time before the event started. As I had no clue what to see in this city, I asked my yelp friend Alana for advice. She told me that the venue for the event is close to this park so I went ahead to pay it a visit. It's a small park with green lawn as in any other park but what sets them apart from the rest is the long, cascading waterfall in the center of two wide walkways going up the other side of the street. I didn't bother going up because I just contentedly sat by a bench facing the waterfall and admired it lovingly while I listened intently in the soothing sounds of cascading water. It immediately submerged myself in a zen-like feeling of extraordinary calmness and serenity. read more

What a cool spot just to come hang out and getaway from the daily rat race. Listening to the water flow down and the great view you get is very worthwhile. Came here on Valentine's Day to have a picnic with the family. Not much to this park but it's unique because of the waterfall and did I mention it lights up when it starts getting dark. Man made waterfall in Monterey Park, California... I saw photos of this cascade and read Glenn's review. Alana had visited Cascades Park recently and reported that the colored lights were not on. Sathy, Alana, and I took a quick drive over to check it out... We parked at the bottom of the hill and walked up, while making sure that the lawn sprinklers wouldn't hit us! As for the lights... they are just plain and clear. Yes, there are no colored lights. Shucks! I might go back one day to see this hill in the daytime. Cascades Park is anything you want it to be. It can be a breathtaking backdrop for your wedding or quinceanera photos or a tranquil moonlit place to clear your mind. It can be a refreshing escape from a scorching summer day or a great place to practice your cardio as you jog up the pyramid like steps. It can be a dog park, a picnic spot, a tourist destination, a meeting place, or simply a landmark you can use to help guide you to your final destination. During the 1980's, Cascades Park was THE place to take your wedding photos. Sadly,during the 1990's and early 2000's the park fell into steady disrepair, neglect, and abuse. Over the past two years, Cascades Park has been restored to it's original splendor complete with colored lights at night and the cascading waterfall that has become it's hallmark. TIP: Night time is the best time to visit the park since the only lights you see are the ones within the cascading waterfall and a few lamp posts along the steps. It's very dark at the foot of the park but that is what lends to the atmosphere. Selfies are best when taken during the DAY. Thank you to the City of Monterey Park for restoring Cascades Park to it's fullest potential. San Francisco has Lombard Street but we have Cascades Park. read more

I happen to catch a glimpse of the park while driving down Atlantic Blvd. It's not to hard miss since it's fairly large in size and its built on a hillside. I decided to drop by on our drive back to see what the place was. By that time, it was already dark outside which was perfect to see the red colored water fountain. I was able to park on the street. The late afternoon is not so hot. The grass is green and well kept. The water running down makes a very soothing sound. The water is clean from the distance. No trash or leaf in the flowing water. No homeless. Just friendly people. It takes about 120 steps from the lower street up to the next street. It's a pretty good work out if you walk up and down 3 times. What a wonderful park in the city of Monterey Park. read more

Why is this patch of grass called a park!? There is no slides, no sand box area and nothing remotely park like. =( It's basically a statue at the back of a long blue colored fountain, surrounded by grass on a slight slope. Since it's on a slope there it's not easy to run around on, maybe do a few leisurely laps to walk your dog or when you need to pace around somewhere and be left alone in your thoughts because NO ONE will be there. There are no trees over the grassy part for shade so it's not comfortable. So useless, seems like a waste of space... I mean for a city named Montery Park you would expect all their parks to be up to par. =p read more

The city and residents maintain the area and it's kept clean with no litter or graffiti in sight. Due to COVID-19 we couldn't eat inside Cook's Tortas so we brought the food here to enjoy a picnic. read more

Cute park with a beautiful view. Parking was great but it was also later in the evening. I recommend not being too loud if you go at night in order to be respectful to the neighbors. Noticed kids going to the very top to hang out and drink. GPS is not accurate. It placed me across the street and I had to drive around a bit until I found the correct location. read more

This is a beautiful park hidden in the city. It's nestled in a residential area, up on a hill. The view is gorgeous and the location is very close to many popular and convenient shopping areas. I like to go sit up on the stairs way up top where there is shade. There is no swimming in these waterfalls, but it's pretty clean and there's a good amount of parking. The kids like to run up and down the stairs and it's actually a really good workout. Keep this park beautiful! read more

Beautiful park! I come here to walk in the morning, or take friends onto the grass and have a picnic. Very peaceful and clean. The surrounding neighborhood is also very nice and beautiful. Throughout the 1920's real estate became a thriving industry with investors attracted to the many subdivisions under development and increasing commercial opportunities. Midwick View Estates One such development was the Midwick View Estates by Peter N. Snyder, a proposed garden community that was designed to rival Bel-Air and Beverly Hills. Known as the Father of the East Side, Mr. Snyder was a key player in the vast undertaking in the 1920's of developing the east side as part of the industrial base of Los Angeles. His efforts to build Atlantic Boulevard, his work with the east side organization to bring industry to the east side and his residential and commercial development projects along Atlantic Boulevard (Gardens Square, Golden Gate Square, and the Midwick View Estates) were a major influence to the surrounding communities. El Encanto The focal point of the Midwick View Estates was Jardin del Encanto, otherwise known as El Encanto, a Spanish style building that was to serve as the administration building and Old Estatecommunity center for Midwick View Estates and an amphitheater to be nestled into the hillside above Kingsford Street. Although the amphitheater was never built, the observation terrace from which viewers could look down to Jardin del Encanto and the fountain with cascading water going down the hillside in stepped pools to De La Fuente remains and is now known as Heritage Falls Park or the Cascades. It was result of the Depression that brought an abrupt end to the real estate boom and the Midwick proposal. The city had little development for nearly two decades. read more

Casually popped in over the weekend with the bf to check out the waterfall. Just our luck to run into a father, bathing both his child and his dog in the waterfall. Oh LA, you are just full of surprises. Parking is limited, but never packed, there is street parking, additional parking in the back, behind the waterfall that's shared with the residents. Water look clear and clean, maybe that's why the father was bathing his child and dog? I don't know honestly. This place always intrigued me as a child as my parents drove by and I'd look up in wonder at this seeming urban waterfall of sky blue water cascading (haha) down the street. Later on do I realize, this is a park of some sorts. Not much there other than the water stream, some lengthy grassy areas, and wide steps for you to travel on to reach the top. There's a view to look down of the residential areas of Monterey Park but not much else. You can try to find some street parking at the base of this park -- the upper areas are much tougher. Been here once with a friend to relax and unwind. Small little park in Monterey Park. It has a beautiful little waterfall in the middle of the park you can enjoy. Just listening to the water cascade down is so relaxing. We stayed to watch it a bit as we sat on the grassy knoll. There were a few families there as there are jungle gyms near by. Cascades Park is the smallest, yet most beautiful park in my hometown of Monterey Park. It is comprised of a central waterfall surrounded by a narrow green belt. The Cascades is the very heart, and soul of Monterey Park, the focal point of the city. Bridal parties can often be found here during the day on photo shoots. The park is even more impressive at night when the waterfall is backlit, however beware of the wildlife, including deer, coyotes, skunks, possums and other animals that come to drink from the waterfall towards midnight. Sometimes when the moon is full someone dumps a 5 gallon tub of detergent at the top of the falls, and the entire cascades turns into one giant bubble bath! read more
