Grain H2O gets a pretty bad rap, so I was a little nervous when my friend and I planned to meet here, but it wound up being okay. During the pandemic, I've only been eating outdoors, so when a storm ruined our other plans, we opted to go to Grain because they have a covered patio that remains open in the rain. They do not take reservations, but we were seated on the patio immediately on our arrival. The atmosphere was a bit loud through some combination of rain hitting the tin roof, live music (which was lovely, but a bit loud), a rowdy group of middle-aged men at the bar, and a barking dog ("well-behaved" leashed dogs are permitted on the patio). A lot of reviewers mention bad/slow service; we actually were greeted promptly and all of our food was brought out really quickly --- to the point that we were still eating our appetizer when the entrees came out. We were given our correct order, though they did initially try to give out appetizer to the table next to us. Our waiter was masked, but the mask was clearly not appropriately sized for his face because it kept sliding beneath his nose, and he'd grab it to pull it up, which in retrospect is not much better than just not wearing a mask... I appreciate that their beer menu comes with a grid rating the beers on sweet to bitter, malty to fruity kinds of scales. However, Dogfish 60 Minute was placed on the sweet side, which didn't make any sense to me --- so I'm not sure how accurate it actually is. Food-wise, the roasted brussels sprouts with balsamic glaze and parmesan were tasty. For our entree, we both chose the citrus and avocado salad, which was decent though overpriced. It's mostly greens with a little bit of mandarin orange, 1/4 of an avocado, a handful of sliced almonds, and two fried balls of goat cheese. The dressing just tasted like oil to me, but the goat cheese and mandarins added enough flavor. I'm in no rush to return, but it is nice to have an option for outdoor dining in Delaware that is available rain or shine. read more

I wanted the food to be just a bit better but everything else makes this a 4 star. Service was way good. And the atmosphere was perfect. We hiked around Lums Pond then came here for the first time. They let our dog sit on the front porch with us and they brought her water! We basked in the only sun since last November and just adored the moment. The restaurant is fun and beautiful. Overlooking the marina, you can sit and just chill. My wife got the turkey burger--it's not turkey breast btw. But it was pretty good and the tots, God bless places that do tots right--and they do! I got the shrimp and grits. It was okay. The shrimp was a bit shrimpy and there was no heat to the dish at all, even thought it touts jalapeños, maybe they ran out. But it was a good brunch. Side note on the Bloody Mary: this thing is loaded! It came with a whole beef jerky slab. Darn good drink. Over all, we will most definitely be back but maybe I'll stick to the classics, crab pretzel and burgers read more

So before going here I read the reviews and they seem to have a lot of mixed reviews, especially about the service. I decided I wanted to give them a fair shot. Eating outside had a beautiful view, live music and corn hole games to play. The place was packed, which personally I like when a place has a good crowd, the only down side was that the live music was way too loud, see I'm one that likes loud music but this, almost unbearable. My table had 6 people and honestly if almost felt we were eating alone because If we wanted to have a conversation, we were screaming. Our server, she was fine. She wasn't bad by any means but she wasn't anything to run home and share about. Everything on the menu sounded really good and I tried to peak around other tables to see how it actually looked. Our table got the nachos, they were very unique I'd have to say. Good! But different, which I like. I would order them again. I decided to order the BBQ chicken flat bread. The presentation of the dish was amazing! A little spicy, a little tangy and the right amount of savory. The chicken itself I thought was cooked nicely but I'd have to say just slightly over done. Which I feel tends to happen a lot on pizza. I personally didn't drink here but from what my table had, this place seems to have a nice selection and local beers on tap. OUTSTANDING!!! We have been to GRAIN H20 a few times for lunch or dinner and they never disappoint... For the past two years, we went to their New Year's Eve bash both times the food and service we AMAZING for the price you got an open bar, hors d'oeuvre, dinner, Champagne toast, and band/DJ. Both times we had a BLAST. This year sadly my husband got sick and when I called and spoke to Tyler (manager) he fully refunded my ticket that small gesture was completely surprising and because of that they now have a customer who will be back for sure. The staff is top-notch and provides some of the best service I have ever seen... Kudos to Tyler and the staff that worked New Year's Eve thank you so much for an amazing service!! We dined here to celebrate my grandson 21st birthday. We had food and cocktails most of us complained the drinks were watered down for the cost. People that got the burgers liked them but that big ass crab pretzel they promote NOT WORTH IT no taste, no crab just cheese and all dry dough the Brussels sprouts were over cooked not good. Our waiter was great and accommodated our party of 12. Sorry I can't say anything good about the food. We sat outside which I prefer not to cause I don't like eating with dogs and cats.. Flies and nats everywhere, DEAD bugs left on the walls for all to see, and ants on the counter tops. They need to do a huge cleanup. Second time visiting for food and drinks. The good: found parking spot, beer and alcohol selection, sweet potato fries, burgers, music. The bad: service, management and kitchen. Our wait for a table was much longer than expected; our waiter who was training a new staff member disappeared for 20 minutes or so; the burgers took close to 50 minutes to deliver; the flatbread pizza took even longer! And the "BBQ chicken" was non existent. In between we asked for the manager and no one showed up. We went to find her and when she (Christine) arrived at the table she said no one contacted her - not my problem. She checked the seating log and seemed to be satisfied with the food delivery wait time and in fact said if we don't like the wait, we should not come back. WTF?!! Telling us not to come back!! We got a discount but it was not nearly worth the aggravation. I was reminded by a reader that the band was impacted by power issues and stopped and started several times. I would give this place zero stars if I could. Their website says they close at 11pm--we get here at 7:30pm, there's a sign by the host stand that says they're closing early at 9pm. WELL, I guess the staff had enough business for the day bc they changed the sign to "last call for food at 8pm, closing at 8:30." We ordered drinks and food in a timely manner. The staff was unfriendly the entire time; not just to us, but other patrons. And the best part is, one out of the two dinners that were ordered "didn't make it through the kitchen." My husband and I visited this restaurant for lunch on a trip to check out the Summit North Marina. It was a true "dog day of summer," (90 degrees), and we were accompanied by The Dog, so we got to sit outside on the patio. Luckily, there was shade and a slight breeze, making it just bearable. After being shown to our table by a friendly hostess, our server, Taylor, arrived with two glasses of ice water and a dog bowl filled with same. It was so appreciated. I ordered the Citrus Salad and my husband ordered the Salmon BLT sandwich. My salad was delicious with two fried goat cheese balls, avocado slices, mandarin orange segments, and a sprinkling of sliced almond slices on a bed of mesclun lettuce with just the right amount of citrus dressing. My husband said the salmon was perfectly cooked, flaky and moist, the bacon crisp, and the toasted multigrain bread was high quality. The sandwich came with homemade potato chips. So good! Taylor was an excellent server, helpful, friendly, and attentive. She visited our table 4-5 times, and we felt well-cared for and content. I have been to this location a few times now and each time has been a pleasant experience with good food and a view!! It is on the pricier side so it's definitely a splurge kinda night when you come here. I always get a grapefruit crush because that's my favorite drink and you can tell they use fresh grapefruit juice with a good amount of alcohol. My boyfriend was checking out their list of beers they had (which was a lot) and our waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable to help direct him towards a beer he would like based off his usual preferences. They also offer tester taste glasses so you don't have to buy a whole cup and not know if you like it. Right now I believe their menu is smaller in reference to COVID-19 , and they have some things set up as well for that (hand sanitizer, 6ft distance stickers, mask enforced unless at the table, etc). Their crab nachos are a must try because the wonton chips are addicting and the combination of the cheese, crab and scallions is delicious! This visit I got the hula bowl and my boyfriend got the lobster roll. My hula bowl was scrumptious, it came presented so delicately and visually appealing which always adds to the experience and I just went all in and mixed it together and it was divine! All the textures complemented each other so well and the meat was so flavorful, and the sauces was just enough to make this dish perfect. I was truly impressed and not expecting it to be so good and filling! The lobster roll is a Connecticut style roll with just butter which is our personal favorite with side Caesar salad. The roll could've had more lobster meat but overall it was exactly what you want in a roll, perfectly toasted bun with lobster meat doused in melted butter. No overpowering spices or added lettuce/fluff in it, just what you want. The salad was also a decent size for a side salad. Great outdoors view! We came here around happy hour on a Friday. At the time we came, we sat ourselves outside in the covered patio. Our waitress was attentive and suggested some appetizers. We ordered the drinks that were featured but it was too sweet for me. Some of the appetizers were good, my favorite was the nachos. The fried pickles were good too. We came here for lunch on April 8. It was chilly and the deck wasn't open yet. I asked the server if they could make a Pain in the Ass, strawberry daiquiri and pina colada mixed together. If you have had that you know they are in the same glass, but not actually mixed together. She brought me a strawberry daiquiri and pina colada totally mixed together. Ok, I guess I need to be more specific. We started with poutine which was decent but was just melted cheese, not cheese curds. Recently, I went to Grain and had the worst dining experience and manager interaction ever. Hanna, our server, was nice. We informed her of one one of the appetizer plates being dirty. When we opened the wrapped silverware. There was visible food on the knife. Again, we informed Hanna. We ordered cheesesteak egg rolls, margerita flatbread pizza, and crab nachos. The egg rolls were delicious! The pizza had great flavor but was cold in the center. The thing that put us over the edge. There was a long piece of straight brown hair in the nachos. Hanna gave us a choice of remaking the food or comping the check. We asked to speak with a manager. Katie, the "manager", approached us in an aggressive manner. We informed her of the dirty plate/silverware, delicious eggrolls, but hair was in the nachos. She barely reacted to the hair. We received an "Oh, I'm sorry." My friend said "the nachos were ice cold". Katie said "I find that hard to believe." She was fixated on the pizza, but not about hair in the food. My friend tried to say it was a figure of speech, but Katie was cutting her off. My friend asked, "Are you going to let me speak?" Katie replied, "No"! To say we were shocked is an understatement. Been to Grain on Main St. alot. Only been to Grain H2O a couple of times. Each time it gets worse. We waited for an hour for a table on a sunday night. The food was underwheling again. I ordered wings and a side of veggies. The portion of veggies was sadly small and only had one tomato. The service was horrible. It took 15 minutes to get water and our order to be taken. I will not be coming back to eat. It is in a great location, at the summit marina. As a "watering hole" it is a great place to drink. Good atmosphere and live bands. The food was not good, slightly higher prices but completely acceptable based on what you think you would get. The serving sizes are small, not well seasoned and did not taste good. The pork belly tacos were tiny and dry, as if they were reheated or sat out for a while before being served. The fish and chips is very small - not worth the money compared to what you usually get when you order. The Asian noodles were extremely sweet, also made from spaghetti noodles and not Asian noodles - over all not worth the money or any money at that because the food did not taste good. A quaint little spot off the beaten path. Built right on a hill overlooking a marina, Sadly the view from most of the bar isn't as great as they would have you believe. Even right at the outer edge of tables which are always packed, the view kinda sucks. They always seem to have an incredibly long wait time. Over an hour on weekends and it doesn't make sense because when you look around you see empty tables here and there, and the waiting area is small so you may end up standing around waiting... This is a huge turnoff and they need to get their proverbial sh*t together or risk losing repeat business. Last time I went they said it would be an hour and 20 min wait time. The same as my previous venture here.. I was ready to just leave at that point because I was hungry but we went inside and luckily landed two seats at the bar. It seems at this place if you don't get in at the bar you're screwed. They do have live music playing on weekends. On my first night here however they had the ambient music playing over the live band. Hopefully that doesn't happen to often. Even the band got annoyed by this. The food is standard bar food. Burgers, sandwiches, nachos, wings. The nachos are "ok" i guess. A bit gooey. Its like they slapped on slices of american cheese and threw it in a microwave. The jalapenos aren't spicy, they're fresh and not bad but again not spicy. I think they would be better served using jalapenos from a jar but that's just my take. As it is I wouldn't recommend the nachos. The beers on draft are a decent selection. Hopefully they rotate them out occasionally. Happy hour they offer 2 dollar drafts which is nice if you can squeeze into the bar. They have a drink menu/chart which is useful in deciding what to order. All in all this place could use a lot of improvement, definitely need to get those wait times down. 1 hour wait? Even the cheesecake factory on a packed Saturday night doesn't make you wait an hour. I suggest calling ahead if you plan to come here and checking to see if they take reservations. I don't know if they do.. Unless waiting around for an hour while looking at empty tables or your smartphone suits you. But again if you're lucky you can grab a seat or two at the bar. Oh and the bathroom is small (mens room) There is one urinal and a toilet. On a busy night there is a line at the door. All in all I will come back again if only for the happy hour drink prices but This place isn't going to be my first choice for a dinner date, especially if I'm hungry. read more

I didn't read any of the reviews prior to coming but after reading a few of them I have to say they are spot on. I really wanted to love this place. I would give this place 1 star if the manager hadn't come out and tried to make the best of the situation for us. Our party of 10 arrived at 11:15 on Father's Day so I expected it to be busy and it was. We anticipated a bit of a wait. None of us were really from the area, and we'd just finished an event in Bear and were famished. Got our name on the list at 11:22 (nearly 10 mins stood in line at the hostess podium) and sat in their waiting area. Got a text at 11:47 that our table is ready so we headed up front. We were seated and immediately welcomed by our server and quickly served drinks. We ordered right away. It was after 1 pm when our food arrived, ice cold. Not even warm with the whole "the plates are hot because your food has been dying under a heat lamp for 40 mins" warning. Nope. Cold. Like we got your nachos out of the oven and let them sit under the air conditioning for an hour before bringing them out to you cold. For comparison, I left half my nachos in the car accidentally for 30 mins when we got home, and they were warmer from being left in the car than they were when they were served to me. Their "OMG cheese sauce" is probably a lot better when it's warm and gooey than when it's coagulated with a bit of a chill. Nowhere on the menu does it say the nachos will come with a solid layer of jalapenos on them, which is kind of an important thing to add to the description if you ask me. In our entire party there was not a single person who wasn't disappointed and mildly disgusted by their tepid meals. The most disappointing meals were the fathers at our table. My husbands meal was lack luster and cooked wrong - egg described as over easy and came out looking like a play dough creation with no runny yolk in sight. If the food was hot and delicious, I wouldn't have minded as much that we waited OVER AN HOUR from the time of ordering to get it because the atmosphere wasn't horrible. If the food was hot and mediocre, I'd still give them three stars because the service was good and the manager did what she could to try and make it right. Overall though, I probably won't try this place again - even on a date night where we have plenty of time and it's just the two of us - because the beers are $7 and served in thimbles. read more

Because it's close to home we keep going back, and regret it each time. I can't imagine making the same mistake again. Wait times have improved as the weather cooled, but expecting the same inefficiencies come summer. The food is hit or miss. Sometimes will come promptly, but with an error. Other times will take way too long, and still with an error. For a bar, it's fine. If your just going to have a few drinks, I see no issue, and the bartenders are great. It's if you're treating this as a restaurant that there are issues, and those issues are just far too many for me to return. read more

We went there with friends and they gave me the wrong omelette, no big deal, I ask the waitress and she sent it back, came back with wrong order again, completely different than the first, but not even close to what I ordered. Consistently FANTASTIC! - Burgers are very good. - Decent selection on the menu, really something for everyone. - Outdoor seating / bar area is really nice, heated in the winter, and generally a very nice area. - Clean space, well maintained. Con's: - Mixed Drinks are New York City prices, and that's a big turn off when going out for drinks with friends and family. This place would double their bar business if the prices were comparable to establishments in the Bear area. They just are not. I'll have 1 drink, at most, and that's all because of the high price. - Bathroom is well maintained, but VERY limited capacity. 2 stars for the staff that recognized and rectified our not so good experiences here. I could accept and get passed a lot if their food and drinks were priced accordingly. Sticker shock all the way around for subpar food and average drinks. They really milk the "waterfront" experience here, even if you're looking at a mossy pond in the middle of the woods. The menu is huge and probably a bit out of reach for the cooks, it was obvious that they're struggling to keep up, especially during brunch. I've been here multiple times in the past and only recently have been surprised by the poor service, but today's service was well below acceptable. I was not drinking (actually, never even received a water). We arrived at 1100am, no crowd, many open table in the upper and lower areas and no one waiting to be seat, but: 1) they would not seat our party of 8 despite the fact that we had 6 of the people there by 1110am. 2) We told them that one of our group members was diabetic and had taken her insulin already seeing that there was no wait and expecting to be seated as any other restaurant would have done. 3) Finally, around 1130, they said that they would seat us without the last two in our party, but tried to give us a 4 top for 6 people even knowing that the last 2 would be there in about 5 minutes. We had to let them know that a 4 top was not acceptable. 4)As we told them, the last 2 of our party arrived within 5 minutes. At that point, we let them know that they were there and we would rearrange the table back for them. They had to go ask someone and returned telling us that we had to fit all 8 at the 6 top and pulled chairs up for us. (Still, no one waiting to be seated and many open tables). 5) Once our last 2 were seated, we had been waiting for another 10 minutes at this point and asked for a server, since we still had not seen one. 6)As mentioned, open tables throughout the entire outside area. There was a six top facing the water and in other areas, some 4 tops, and 2 tops in all areas as well. We were seated on the lower level not facing the water in the "parking lot" area without a view. 7)It was hot 80 degrees and sunny. The server finally arrived and we placed our entire order around 1145. 8) We saw them putting umbrellas up for almost all of the other tables. We asked for one. The said that they had to go ask. They came back, again, denied. They said that they did not have anymore umbrella stands, so we could not have one. I went around and checked...there were a few umbrellas that they had just placed at tables that did not have patrons and, at least, one stand under another that did not have a patron. 9)Around 1155, we asked again for waters, but was just told they would find our server, (remember its sunny 80 degrees and now have been waiting for about 50-55 minutes total), so one of our party went to the bar to get waters and some drinks, but was denied yet again telling him that the bar doesn't serve seated guests. What????? 10)By 1200 noon in the hot sun without an umbrella, we still did not have our waters. I decided that this was just unacceptable and said my goodbyes to my friends. 11) The 3 young hostess ladies gasped when they heard me and agitated said, "really?" I just replied matter-of-factly, "It's hot, we still don't have our waters, and you wouldn't give us an umbrella." I will not be back. Neither will the 8 in our party. We will go to Schaefers or the Chesapeake Inn instead where patrons are served with care and respect. Dawn J. read more
