We got the cheesesteak with house beer cheddar cheese wiz and mushrooms. The mushroom cheesey awesomeness actually tasted better on the tater tots than the cheesesteak. I don't know if I was tasting the cheese wiz or mushrooms but I liked it. It scored a 90/100. We went to Thurston's for lunch today for the first time. The place is unsuspecting from the outside but on the inside it is definitely a nice little pub. My husband got the Reuben, I got the Buffalo chicken salad, my three year old got the hot dog & fries, and we shared the Buffalo wings that were recommended by our server Colleen. Wings are always our go-to, and these were absolutely delicious. Nice & crispy on the outside, and totally juicy & tender on the inside. My salad portion was HUGE and so yummy. The fries are homemade. The Reuben was fantastic, he said. Service was great. I can't say enough good things about our experience today, and I'm sad this was only our first time when we've lived in the area since 2017. We'll be back!!! read more

Not going to lie..... I was a total skeptic walking in. My son is new to the area and this Pub is located in a strip mall and not much to look at from the outside. Inside is pretty much your local yocal bar set up. We were greeted immediately and service was great the whole time. Prices are reasonable. Anything crab there is amazing. Yep- I said amazing. Actually a good spot for a week night. I'm saying week night because I've been here on weekends and it's been too packed with a DJ and some really, really messed up people. I prefer this place on a Tuesday night when it's a low-key spot to buy a bucket of beer and throw darts. On the weekends it's a dance party with little room to relax and talk. Take it for what it is. Alot of locals here who are looking for tail or a quick drink but it is nice for a quick drink especially during the week days. Food is really decent too. One cook I think but they can put out some huge burgers for cheap and they always have a food special for each day of the week. read more

I hate to give one star....but honestly this bar has taught me being nice doesn't get you that far. I've been here a few times and the guy that has served us was pretty nice. The food always looked good, but still that cannot save this place. That aside.......not only do I think it's wrong to have only one bartender/waitress (yes, she did both jobs...). The pure lack of customer service is complementary with this place. Oh yes, we witnessed one couple walk in only to be ignored before they called it quits and left. Way to show customer appreciation? It was blatant that I was being sexually harassed by other patrons at the bar. Other customers had asked if I was okay yet the bartender acknowledged it and turned a "blind eye" to the situation instead of removing the unruly guests. I also wasn't told the price of my drinks. We also weren't greeted with what specialties this particular place had, even when my friend asked. I can only compliment this place on how clean their bathrooms were. Before I moved, I use to come a lot. Then I moved... But, before I moved I bought a groupon 4yrs ago that I never used, and never ever expected to be able to use it.... Swung by tonight, for drinks. Completely new staff and they still excepted the cash value, which 99% of restaurants don't. On top of great service, standing by an offer from years ago speaks volumes. I didn't eat tonight, so I can't speak about the food. But, the drinks were solid, service was great, and accepting a dead deal is amazing. Definitely recommend. Thurstons Pub is exactly that. A Pub. What sets it apart is the employees and the food which is superior than any other small pub of its kind in the area. You get a good amount of food when you order and I usually need a box to take some home to have later. Drinks are inexpensive and your best bet is to check the chalkboard to see what the specials are. Unfortunately the management does not know when to stop serving to drunks. In one out of every ten visits to this place, I've witnessed a drunken brawl either inside or outside. Sundays are Quizzo, Mondays are acoustic, Tuesdays are Karaoke, Thursday there's a very loud DJ, but Weds., Fri. and Sat. are usually Jukebox-only nights and the crowd is usually pretty tame until closing time. It often gets "rough" near closing time when folks pound their alcohol after hearing "last call." Like I said, it's a Pub. But if you can't hold your liquor, you'll need to be able to hold your own in a fight. It's not a place for late-night dates and definitely not a place to bring children. Been in this place a few times during the day on weekends. The bartender is ALWAYS drunk and yelling at someone for something. Or she is smoking! Then the smoke comes into the place.. Ok, so I can't give this place five stars because five stars means "Woohoo! As good as it gets!". BUT, for a neighborhood bar? It's awesome. Don't let the stars fool you. The stars are all relatively. Iron Hill, all the bars in Newark, and Stewart's down the road are definitely better options for classier bars. However, if you live down the street and want to grab a drink on your way home, Thurston's is the way to go. It's your neighborhood bar with a pub feel. It's super low key on weeknights. And the staff is fantastic! They have great happy hour specials. $2 rail drinks (get the rail rum with pineapple juice) and 1/2 priced appetizers (I recommend the nachos) on Tuesdays. They have specials otherwise too ($6 burgers, etc). If you just want to grab a drink, relax, and want that next door feel, stop by! read more

Make no mistake, this is a DIVE BAR. Don't go in looking for a fine dining experience or anything upscale as you won't find it. But taking Thurston's for what it is, a local neighborhood dive-bar, the place is pretty cool. It's been renovated over the past few years with new hardwood flooring and flat screen TV's. Pros: Good pub food and great food and drink specials every night of the week. I've always enjoyed their wings and appetizers and on a recent visit, it was half price Cheesesteak night and they looked great! They also had a beer special of 5 domestics in an ice bucket for $12. They do live entertainment and DJ's throughout the week and always have sports on the TV's. Cons: They are often understaffed and if the place is busy, you'll wait a long time to get drinks. The crowd can get pretty sketchy at times and as you walk in, it seems everyone turns around to size you up. The bartenders are often too friendly and will over-serve drunk ass regulars and do shots with their friends while you're still waiting to get noticed. Fights will occasionally break out as well, especially when they have a DJ. I avoid the place on DJ nights, for sure. read more

Stopped here with a friend to use a Groupon. I didn't know it was a dive when I bought it. We ordered Maryland crab toast which was like tuna fish on garlic bread, pot stickers which we expected to be steamed but were fried, and santa fe egg rolls which were actually the best of the 3. The drinks were cheap, service was ok. Probably wouldn't come here again, I would just go to McGlynns which also has cheap drinks, plus a bigger bar, free popcorn, and better food. read more

Less than impressed. Before you even walk in the door you are "greeted" by the patrons and employees smoking outside on the sidewalk. As a non-smoker this is a huge turn off to even enter a bar. Once we walked in I noticed the music was way too loud to carry a conversation and the patrons at the bar (most of them) were hammered. I then witnessed the bartender take shots with the bar customers which is a huge no no in the bar business. The staff was polite and the food was very good! read more

First time here today and it was just OK. I went with 2 other friends and we ordered the following: calamari fries, hot buffalo wings, cheesy ranch fries, mac and cheese bites, and sweet potato fries. I'd say pretty much everything was good except my calamari fries. They were coated in panko which is fine but they were SUPER greasy. I just couldn't eat them after I had my first bite. My friends tried them and thought the same thing so I wasted 8.99 on that. The sweet potato fries and cheesy ranch fries, on the other hand, were pretty good. The sweet potato fries were crunchy and well seasoned and not greasy at all! The cheesy fries were packed both bacon and melted cheese and were good as well. Didn't try the mac and cheese bites but my friend thought they were ok. The buffalo wings were good as well and were big. I think it's a tad expensive for pub food but at least the service was good. Our waitress was pretty friendly. She took forever to bring our check but that was alright since we weren't in a hurry to leave. I'd say come here if you live in the area (Bear) for a casual lunch but I wouldn't necessarily invite friends that lived further than a 10 mile radius. read more

I think it's called the Bronco Burger, served with onion rings and a tasty BBQ sauce. *I went 4 the $1.49 (i think it was) upcharge and got the sweet potato fries---SO GOOD *and I am not a fry person, usually opt 4 veggies if I can. Last time my company had something that I can't remember, some sort of wrap but was told it was also very good. *This time, another cohort of mine had a wrap, I think it was a Tijuana something, Mexican flare and again the report I got was that it was very good and surprisingly large in quantity. *We also had a cup of chili which was good & I'm told their specialty. It was, however, a tad too spicy which could have been alleviated with a dollup of sour cream or maybe some cheese on top. 4 your taste calibration: my tastes r such that I do like spice & a little heat, I do NOT like 2 have my taste buds burnt off 2 have a good time eating as some do. This being said, the heat from the chili was not the worst, but bordering on uncomfortable heat which would b 2 much 4 many of the folks I know who r spice-phobic in general. *Although I didn't taste them, I saw wings go by & they looked and smelled terrific. -The prices r average to good based on taste, quality and quantity. -Waitress/Bartender (2-in-1 duty) is very pleasant & attentive considering she had to work the whole room, literally. The Bad: -I suspect they are uncleanly dirty... at least in bar's drinking glasses. I ordered water both times I went. Not sure what the ??? is going on with this...but both times there was a very odd taste. It had an echo of some odd mixed drink taste 2 it, I can only guess was some sort of alcoholic drink mix, almost like a strawberry dacquari mix. Very odd taste...and it happened 2 times. My friend also had a weird taste this time too. So this does lend credence 2 the dirty bar vibe u get... Not sure they're properly washing those cups. Besides from the gross out germ factor---think twice If u're a recovering alcoholic, u may want 2 rethink ordering really any drink not pre-bottled here,not sure if they have bottled soda as I'm sure this was some trace alcohol in the cups. -The ambiance has much 2 b desired. It does make u think, ew...dirty bar...drink here only, don't eat. And after the cup story I told u I'd day u have 50/50 chance of total cleanliness. Also 4 a bar, they have the BRIGHTEST bizarre lightbulbs I have ever experienced in this type of setting. Both times I ate there, they knew they had 2 turn them down & thankfully did so. Waaaaaaay too bright and too many light bulbs in these lantern like fixtures. -It seems like it's a 2-3 man show. We went on a weekday after noon and a Sat nite, each time the pleasant but clearly busy bartender had 2 work the bar AND work the seated customers as well. It's not a big place at all, hole in the wall type place, but still really too large 4 1 person 2 wait on. A cook sometimes delivers your food & it appeared there was 1 other person working, the manager I assume. This may explain y it took a really long time 2 get our chili. -The bathroom...hmm. They say judge the restaurant by the bathroom. So this speaks 2 me. Speaking 4 the ladies room only... Was it dirty? No, not 2 an obvious extent. It was remodeled pretty nicely...except it has no working dispensers except 4 the soap. So, The toilet paper was sitting on the edge of the sink. Ew! I accidentally knocked it off onto the ground...TRIPLE EW! And probably worse is the Papertowels were sitting on the back of the toilet....EWwww. Next 2 the flush button. Germs travel, folks.... they don't just stay where they last were deposited. EWwww. So u recontaminate your hands after u dry them from the germs that just crawled onto the papertowels from someone's flushing hand. Sorry it's too detailed...but it's true. Blehh! All in all: really tasty pub food, friendly service but questionable proper cleanliness. I'd say try it at least once & c what your tastes tell u. I do hope they remove the questionable factors here, as this would b a nice place 2 eat often but I can't say I will do 2 the drinking glass factor alone. I hope u find this helpful! read more

Came here for a birthday party. The service was good and staff all really nice. The party had meatball and roast beef sandwiches. Not sure if theyare on the regular menu or not but they were both outstanding. the meatballs had alot of flavor and garlic which is always a plus! The rolls were super fresh too! I wish it was a little closer to home because I would totally go back for dinner! read more
