We finally tried the Grain Bin Café after driving past it for years--and I'm so glad we did! It's cozy and welcoming, set inside a remodeled house that gives it such a homey vibe. The owner even took the time to sit and chat with us, which made it feel more like having dinner at a friend's place than eating out. Everything is made from scratch--the ranch was incredible, and the chicken fried steak was seriously some of the best we've had. The whole experience was warm, delicious, and worth every bite. This place is such a good spot for a taste of a home cooked meal. The chicken friend chicken was good. There was a little bit of extra breading but it wasn't bad ! Burger was a little over cooked but it had some good flavor to it ! Service was fast! The restaurant was updated with valentines decor but needed some over all slight upgrades and cleaning.. the store attached had the cutest band bags and shirts and shoes.. a little pricy though! I have always enjoyed coming here until this visit. A member of our party came in to get us on the list and was asked "what are you doing here " by an elderly woman. We shook that off. A young girl came to take our drink and food order. One of the members of our party did not get their food until much later. (The order was put in wrong). One of the spouses was griping at their partner about what she ordered, the young waitress overheard and started crying. She proceeded to go tell her grandmother and the grandmother came and chewed our table out. It was insane! Sadly the young waitress was overwhelmed and we told her several times it was ok, but the grandmother coming and raising her voice at us was UNACCEPTABLE!!! Treating customers this way is not ok. Sadly most of the party will never return here, not to mention word of mouth. I am not sure who the elderly woman is, but she clearly needs to step away for the sake of the business. Me and my family went here for my sister's memorial birthday. We never ate there before, but we decided to try it out. First off, the service was ok. We waited a very long time for our food. We waited at least 40 minutes for food. The food wasn't even the best. I ordered cheese fries, and they were the worst cheese fries I've ever eaten at a restaurant. They were HARD, and the cheese was so melted in a microwave that the cheese was burnt to the lining, and all of them were stuck together. On a scale of 1-10, the cheese fries were a 1 or 2. I would NOT recommend the cheese fries. The main food was ok. My dad didn't like his squash casserole. he or my mom didn't eat theirs. My sister and sister in law liked the onion rings. My fries were good. The burgers were ok on a scale of 1-10. I'd say my food was a 3 or 4. Now the atmosphere of this place was so nice. It was welcoming, family oriented, and very relaxed. Service was good but food was okay. My biggest complaint is that we were charged $3.00 for a kids drink and the menu states that is included. What a rip off. I brought it to their attention when checking out and he just said that is the way it is. If that is the case you really need to update your menu. So beware we paid $12.00 for a kids meal. Kids meal said on menu it came with a 16 oz drink. After cruising the highways and byways of Guadalupe County, I've stumbled upon this quaint little cafe a few times. The few times I have driven by, my timing has always been off. Well today, by golly, I decided to stop in and give this place a try. Upon walking in, you are first steered through a store with clothing, souvenirs, and miscellaneous knick knacks. After walking through said store, you are directed to seat yourself in their small dining area. So, we picked a seat to our liking, and got comfy. The dining room was packed with hard working farmers, one waitress taking drink orders, and one waitress taking food orders. The wait to order our drinks was a bit excessive, and the we almost considered walking out before waiting a long time to order our food. We were eventually greeted by a friendly young lady, and we placed our order. We ordered the bottle caps as an appetizer, then I ordered the fried pork chops with a baked potato and buttered corn. I was very excited about the fried chops, as you cannot find them many places. The wife ordered chicken strips (how boring, right?). My mother in law ordered the chicken fried steak. We received the bottle caps in good time and everyone at the table enjoyed them. My fried pork chops were decent. Not bad, but not as good as mom's. They were good enough to where I would get them again. The wife was not a fan of the chicken strips, as they looked frozen like the ones in the freezer section at HEB. The breading was also way too excessive. She said she will not be getting them again. The waitress also did not bring the fixings for the baked potatoes. My mother in law's chicken fried steak looked delicious, hanging over the plate, and she did not have any complaints. I do believe next time I will try the chicken fried steak. After receiving our check, we walked up to the front to pay the bill. The young lady behind the register apologized for the longer than usual wait. She explained that they were busier than usual, and they had a problem getting more staff today. She explained she called the boss and requested back up to help with the hungry crowd. The boss wished them "good luck" and decided to stay at home. To that, I say to the boss, "good luck" convincing me to give you more than three stars on this review. This easily was a four star visit, however, the poor service knocked it down a star. Your staff was very polite, and I gave my waitress the benefit of the doubt and tipped her accordingly, and more than I should have. Your "good luck" wishes were not going to cost this overworked young lady! I will give this place another try. The wife says she probably will not return. I would recommend this place to anyone passing by. But I would not recommend going out of your way for it. Enjoy! read more

The food was mediocre at best. I feel like they really have capitalized on the fact there isn't much out in this area for miles. I ordered the grain bin taco salad which is pretty much the taco salad with added onions and jalapeños but when I asked the server about chicken instead of beef for the meat she said it didn't come with it. Even though the menu literally said everything on the taco salad plus those two things for 2 more dollars. Then I didn't even receive the two added things to the salad even though I pointed it out to her and she said she would go get them. The chicken in my salad (that I apparently wasn't supposed to have) had seasoning that I could see but for some reason I couldn't taste. The jalapeño ranch tasted like they dumped jalapeño juice into the ranch so it was so concentrated it was overwhelming. I will give her credit though she was the only server in the whole restaurant so she was handling taking orders well but the kitchen couldn't keep up and it showed because it took 10 minutes to take our order and another 30 to get it. Maybe hiring more staff would benefit them...oh wait they did have 3 bussers but only one waitress. Also they may have cross contaminated on the fryer. My husband is allergic to seafood and the fried pickles we got for an appetizer seemed not right for him because they had a fishy taste to him and he got a little sick after eating them. read more
