Nothing is better for a road trip than to make a BBQ pit stop. We found this place on our way to Canyon Lake for the holiday weekend. Our original lunch plans fell through the our fellow yelpers helped us find this place. Parking was pretty easy, they had a decent sized lot with plenty of spaces. It's counter style and the woman taking our order was so kind! We ordered the brisket, 2 types of sausage and the warm potato salad. After we ordered, we got our drinks and found a table. There was plenty of seating the staff were really nice. They did an extra wipe down of our table to ensure it was clean enough. When our food came, that was all she wrote. We didn't have the fatty brisket, but it was still moist and full of that smoky flavor. The potato salad was cheesy, great texture, like if a baked potato and potato salad had a baby. This was my first visit and it's much better than the place in downtown Seguin where you have to stand in line for hours. And if you dare write a review the owner will chastise you for not giving it five stars. But here the food has flavor the brisket was tender and juicy. The sausage was flavorful and I got the regular. I got the two meat combo plate. I wish they offered chicken on it. But they don't. I also had the tat-or tot casserole and green beans. For dessert the peach crumble. I had heard they were expensive but I didn't find that true. It was a massive amount of food; honestly, it could have easily fed three people, but my husband and I did our best! The standouts for me were: The Sausage: My personal favorite. It had a perfect crunchy snap on the outside and was incredibly flavorful. The Ribs: These were delicious and had a unique sweetness that reminded me of Filipino Tocino. I purposely didn't look at their social media for the last month because I wanted to be surprised by the sausage special. I take a bite and no joke the PA system starts playing "Times Like These"-Foo Fighters and I'm chomping at this sausage hearing these lyrics. Listening to a song and eating a sausage that hits the nostalgia of my formative years growing up in San Diego. The pieces of burger patties, pickles, bun, onions and fries were all one singular unit but you could taste and feel each as you bite. All bound together with the sausage spices. The fries! As I was biting it was giving California Burrito as well maybe because of the form and it being filled out with fatty beef. I've had two "religious experiences" with sausage in my life and both have been in Seguin, Tx. Rewording the lyrics, "It's bites like these you learn to live/love again" Oh also the brisket was fantastic. Nice and peppery and the fat cap melted wonderfully in my mouth. The ribs with the glaze! Such a fatty rib. Slightly sweet with a chili flavor that reminded me more of Gochugaru and Korean chili peppers more than what you find in regular chili in the west. But man. That sausage. I keep talking to ppl and I feel that sausage is the meat item where you get feel the soul and creativity of the pit master the most boldly stated. Trying to explore the local places that have barbecue. This is one of the good ones. I had the brisket sandwich. The wife had the brisket potato, the only meat they had at 6:30 on a Monday was brisket and the wife got the last potato so you might want to get here early if you want more choices. The meat was flavorful. It was very tender. However there is no evidence of a smoke ring. I believe they cook it in advance and refrigerate it, taking it out and use it as needed. There really isn't anything wrong with that and if you always want to have some meat available that's probably the best way to do it. The alternative is keeping it out under the hot lights which just dries it up or having what you have until you run out. The fries are coated which is a disappointment to me so I passed on those. The wife thought the potato, fully loaded with the brisket, was very tasty and she enjoyed it. Besides the lack of selection at that time of day, the only other downside was they're putting chairs up on the tables before 7:00, more than an hour before they closed. I understand the expediency but I do not appreciate the way it feels like they're saying: " hurry up and get out of here." Some places offer an assortment of barbecue sauces from mild to the very hot and other places have one idea what the barbecue sauce should be like and that's what they offer. This is a place where they only have one. It wasn't bad sauce but I prefer having options The place is pretty clean and the ordering process is very efficient. They give you a buzzer and when your food's ready you go pick it up when your buzzer goes off. I wouldn't mind stopping in again the next time I'm in Seguin or heading that way, but I don't think I would go out of my way to get there from New Braunfels. read more

I recently visited this restaurant and had a mixed experience. The service was OK - not bad, but not particularly attentive either. The food itself taste good, and I ordered the pork belly with rice special, which I enjoyed. However, the portion size did not match the price, and it felt overpriced for what was served. The biggest issue during our visit was a seating situation. The restaurant was extremely crowded, and no indoor tables were available. Unfortunately, we had to sit outside on the patio. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but the weather that day was 43°, cold very windy. We were dining with small children, and the restaurant did not have any outdoor heaters or warming options. Because of this our food became cold very quickly, which took away from the overall experience. It was confusing that the patio was even open without any heating accommodations and such cold weather. Additionally, there were several large groups from a local church who appeared to have reserved any of the indoor tables. While reservations are understandable, it made the restaurant feel effectively closed to walk in customers. It might be helpful for management to better balance reservations with public seating so that other guests are not left without reasonable options. Overall, the food quality was good, but the pricing seating logistics in the lack of preparation or cold weather made the visit essential bill then it could have been and most likely we won't visit this restaurant again read more

Easy to get to location, plenty of parking and they have outdoor seating under a covered patio when the weather is better. I ordered a Combo plate, with sausage & brisket - my husband a 3-meat plate of sausage, fatty brisket and pork ribs. It's an easy order at the counter, pay and they give you a buzzer to pick up at the food counter behind the registers. The sausage was most excellent, perfect texture and well seasoned in my opinion. Even my husband loved the sausage and that says a LOT! Order the Schulze 'potato salad', it's a loaded baked potato made into a salad. Very delicious. Macaroni & cheese is supposed to be made with in-house queso, was okay. Beans were amazing! Very well-seasoned. Notice how I am focused on the sides. I love BBQ, except the brisket & ribs here at Schulze's did not hit for me or my husband. Beautiful presentation on the ribs but not enough flavor. The brisket was mediocre at best. The dining area has plenty of tables with a little congestion moving around the tables. Loved the bar area, we didn't drink any alcohol with our meal however it is nice to have that option. Upon entering you can see plenty of seating inside and outside too with an area for a variety of beverages. For the most important part the food, you head to the register area and choose what you'll have from the menu above. The person taking your order are a kind group of people helping making your selection easier. What I chose was a brisket sandwich, may I say was delicious the texture and flavor were outstanding every bite flavorful as the next the bun helped bring out the flavor of the brisket. I paired it with Tatortot Casserole and the Mac N Cheese, you can choose a variety of sides, the options I chose were perfectly cooked with abundance of flavor and seasonings. Schulze's Pit Room is one of the best barbecue places I can remember. I walk in, and am immediately greeted with cries of "Welcome!" and giant smiles from each and every one of the staff members. The man who took my order was extremely nice, even when I went back to him to turn on the Spurs vs. Knicks Championship game (to which he extremely kindly told me that the game was on tomorrow, not today, and made an effort to show me on his phone), then went back to him and asked him for barbecue sauce, and then went BACK to him to ask for bread. All three times, he never got annoyed with me and stayed very nice, despite the fact he was probably very annoyed. As for ambiance, I absolutely love the modern BBQ vibe it's going for. It makes for a really nice aesthetic, and the overall cleanliness was great. The men's bathroom was extremely clean as well, as well as being very nice. Now, the food was not lacking, either, as the brisket was some of the best brisket I've ever had, and the mac adn cheese was spot on. I also got a side of corn, which was very good. If you don't like barbecue, don't worry, though-my brother got a burger that he labeled as "top 5 burgers I've ever had" (and he's had a lot). Walking out the door, the entire staff once again turned to me, smiled, and said, "Thank you so much for coming!" Overall, I can't express what a great experience this was. We didn't have to wait in line, we sat in the A/C and watched some college football. Let me tell you, and I hope I don't regret saying this later, but my brisket was like butter. Delicious. I went on a Thursday since I heard some good things about this place. I had one of their specials, it was a two meat plate with two sides. I chose brisket and sausage with corn casserole and a baked potato salad. The brisket was disappointing. It had hardly any flavor other than it tasted like a roast. It was soft and firm in some areas which was OK however it seriously lacked smoke flavor. Did they even put it on a pit? The sausage was good, but it was quite a bit greasy. The baked potato salad already has all the fixings in it so there's cheese and sour cream and butter, but it was presented a little bit smashed and chunky which was OK however it gave the feeling and taste of a warm potato salad. The only thing relatively good was a corn casserole. It had whole kernels in there in a cornbread base and that was mighty tasty. The service here was courteous and prompt, but not really friendly just cordial. There were quite a number of people at the time that I went and there was about a 15 to 20 minute wait for the food which they did tell us in advance as we placed our order and that was OK cause when you want barbecue you're willing to wait especially if it's good but when it's not, it's extremely disappointing, needless to say we were disappointed. On the plus side they have a fantastic banana pudding. If this were a restaurant that specialized in desserts, they would win hands-down with their banana pudding. Decided to give it a try, was on the hunt for good barbecue. Walked in around 12:30, there were plenty of patrons present but still some open tables. Plenty of barbecue to choose from. A brisket sandwich was ordered , a little on the moist side, didn't want a mouth full of fat. We were in Seguin for my granddaughters 3 day softball tournament and it was so good that we ate there twice. We ate brisket, sausage ( fantastic), southwest chicken, & turkey. My husband loved the beans, potatoes salad, gator tot casserole and corn casserole were all very good. One of our girls had a salad and it looked very fresh she said it was. The only thing I had a problem with, that's not a real problem, you can tell they made the brisket bark with the seasoning, it's still good, but the pepper was a little overpowering. I think they made a mistake and gave us the jalapeno cheese sausage instead of regular sausage. But the jalapeno cheese sausage was very good. But the star of the show is their brisket. A good bark, a nice smoke ring, and the meat was tender and moist. Very good smoke penetration. They have a nice peppery barbecue sauce that compliments the brisket nicely.
