We ordered our first meals (takeout) today. We ordered the Tuesday Special of Liver and Onions. The liver looked fine until that first bite with the unmistakable taste of char. Flipped the liver to reveal the source and discovered the bottom side was burned black. Green beans were overcooked in my opinion. Mashed potatoes were just ok. Roll was a disappointment, as well. 1st time there. Saw on yell and decided it sounded good. Friday lunch specials... meatloaf, fish or fried or grilled shrimp with 2 sides, a roll and tea all for $14.95 including tax. Had grilled shrimp with onions & bell peppers, sautéed cabbage with lots of bacon, seasoned green beans and a hot roll. I don't eat much but I finished it all! Hubby had cheeseburger and tater tots. He said it was ok but liked the looks of the other food going by... lots of Mexican food. Since it was our first time there the hostess/cashier was super friendly and explained menu, offered samples. It seemed to be a place frequented by locals and was a relaxed environment with free refills on teas/lemonade. I definitely would go back. Looks to be a local favorite. The lady who checked us out has been there 11 years. Two friends and I stopped for lunch on our way from Houston to San Antonio. We were drawn by the high Yelp rating and close proximity to the highway. When we entered it was obvious we weren't locals and those close by started helping us understand how to order. :) I ordered one of two daily specials, meat loaf with a choice of two sides. I asked the man taking our order to choose his favorites for me, so I got macaroni and cheese and stewed zucchini squash. My friends ordered cheeseburgers cooked and dressed to order with onion rings and fries, respectively. Once we'd sat the waitress brought us complementary fried fish, the other daily special, to sample. It was beautifully cooked and the fish tasted fresh and clean. When our food arrived I was also given some corn with my meal. The meatloaf was well seasoned and of good quality. The tomato gravy was good and would have been perfect with a tweak of sweetness to balance the acidity. I ate every bite though! The sides were all good. The meal reminded me of something from grandma's house. The cheeseburgers looked beautiful and by all accounts were really good. Both friends remarked that the buns were yummy. Very small lunch restaurant with excellent food! You order at the counter and they will bring it out. They have daily specials. I had their chicken fried chicken. It was fantastic! At first it was a little confusing on how to order. but thanks to a young man behind the counter we finally figured it out. It appears they have a main item that changes everyday. There are several daily dishes available. We ordered a standard cheese burger that my wife described as the best burger she has tasted here in Texas. We ordered Funnel Fries that were good enough to be dessert. The atmosphere was somewhat industrial, dark with sagging ceiling tiles. Stopped here while traveling back to Austin. People were super friendly, the food was good like home cooking, and the prices where reasonable. Cheese enchiladas (with chips, queso, & salsa), burger with fries and small salad with 3 drinks was $21. My son loved the burger and it was a decent size. Fries were yummy too! I must say it is about time Seguin got a decent restaurant in town, with such wonderful preparation and variety of Dinner Menu each day. The quantity is large at a very reasonable price. The food is excellent, the best in Seguin with a country Home cooked flair. My hat is off to the owners, Cooks and such Friendly Servers that greet its customers each day with kindness and a big smile! I rated this as high as allowed, but in my own mind they are absolutely a 10 in my book and put all others to shame that call themselves Restaurants in Seguin. My wife and I are both retired and have traveled the country side looking for a decent place to eat, now we have found it and my hat is off to the Lunch Box,I applaud the owners and say, job well done and well enjoy many home cooked meals with them in the future.
