For what it is o think it's expensive, I preferred some enchiladas and the chicken did not taste as if it was seasoned. Just ordered one meal with water and it came out to almost 20 plus. Service was good my server was sweet it came out quick just the flavor did not make up for the cost. read more

My husband and I wanted dinner and we went here with a friend from out of town, it was great! We decided to try it again just us. And it did not disappoint, large group was waiting for a table and since it was just my husband and I, we were able to get sat immediately. Our service Marissa was helpful and answered our questions promptly. Greeting us like we were her regulars who she saw weekly and giving us her experience. Chips and salsa were destroyed. Two Bowls of chips and two bowls of salsa. Husband ordered a Mexican dinner and he enjoyed it. Enchilada taco plate (no picture sorry). I ordered the grilled taco platter and it was beautiful. Marissa added a sauce that was perfect to dip the tacos in. And her suggestion of extra tortillas were perfect for when the tacos fell apart because I'm a messy eater. Chipotle sauce. Just (chefs kiss). When you come here, in our experience, the food is delivered quickly after you order it. This place appears to be perfect for any size group. A nice bar and large seating area. The food, menu, and the service were all great! The food was outstanding. Large portions and good prices made it nice too. Something for everyone...excellent selections. Our friend and I both had the chalupas, one with beef and the other without since she's a vegetarian, and they were really delicious, with more than we could eat. My husband had the cheese enchilada plate, and he said they were outstanding. It definitely looked good! We will be back when we go to New Braunfels again. If you haven't been, you need to go! Perfect place to fill your belly after a long day of water activities in the Texas heat! The margaritas are PEREFECT. Everything you're looking for in a frozen margarita. Or if you choose, get a huge mug of draft beer to wash down your chips. Now I'm not one to get food that isn't the type of cuisine of the restaurant, however, my husband tested the chicken fried steak topped with Queso and pico, and both of us agree, it's the best chicken fried steak we've ever had. And that's saying a lot coming from two home-grown Texans. The batter is so perfectly light and crispy, steak tender, and the jalepenos on top add the perfect kick. I can never ever recommend this place after what I became aware of following our meal at Adobe Cafe. It started off on the wrong foot with their rigid policy: no seating until our entire party of 20 had arrived. As if large groups always show up simultaneously. Eventually, we rounded up our birthday guest and family then were seated. To be fair, our waitress was professional and handled our group admirably. But as the evening progressed, I noticed something else--Adobe is clearly overstaffed. That might explain one of the more subtle issues: as they used to say, "Where's the beef?" But the new question should be, "Where did that beef come from?" I made the mistake of ordering the Carne Guisada--a dish that, when done right, is rich, savory, and unforgettable. What I received was unforgettable all right, for all the wrong reasons. I eagerly took my first bite, only to find a forkful of fat and gristle. I tried again--same result. My wife gave it a shot--same issue. Now, I'm not one to send food back or make a fuss while dining. But this situation was out of my control. I notified the waitress, who kindly asked if I wanted the dish cooked again. I politely declined. Here's the truth: the cut of meat was absolutely the poorest quality I've ever been served at a restaurant that prides itself on upscale dining. The chef likely did the best he could with what he had--but what he had was subpar. This wasn't a one-off mistake. Restaurants don't get to make mistakes like that. The issue wasn't in the kitchen--it was in the purchasing. Adobe is a busy restaurant, and this was early in the evening. It's unlikely they had run out of quality cuts. The problem, I suspect, lies with whomever is responsible for sourcing their meat. Good meat is available. But someone is clearly choosing the cheapest option to protect profit margins. If that's the case, the owner should at least manage the staff more closely. Many of them were standing around chatting while service lagged. Bottom line: the food didn't match the price, the meat didn't match the reputation, and the experience didn't match the hype. read more

We were going to San Antonio, and my parents always stop here, they have been here at least 30 years... probably more... but the owners have really taken care of the place, they have renovated and expanded. It looks very clean and modern and bright. Just as good as it used to be, sometimes even better. I had the chicken with poblano creamy sauce. Today, I went to Adobe for lunch with my husband. I noticed a string in my rice and politely notified my server. He took it to the kitchen, and I believe the manager came over. The manager mentioned he would speak with me, which I was okay with. He waited until my meal was nearly finished, but I had already asked to take it home because I wasn't hungry anymore. What bothered me was the manager expecting me to pay for the meal despite there being an issue with it, even though he was offering to give me another one. I wasn't expecting a free meal--I simply wanted my rice replaced. However, I did not ended up leaving with a free meal because they took my plate and I was still charged for it. The lesson I take from this experience is to always check your food before eating and remember that you might still need to pay for the meal, even if there's a problem. read more

Dang!!! This place actually rocks. Have never been before, decided to try it out on my way to play a gig in town. I ate at the bar during happy hour - ridiculously good margaritas! The Mexican martini was okay, not my favorite. The salsa is SO delicious. I ordered the (3) enchilada plate. Two cheese, one ground beef. I do not ever bother to write reviews, yet feel compelled to do so today. It has been a long time since we've dined at this location. It was disappointing today for lunch. First what stood out were what appeared as the floor 2 mangers standing off to the side talking while we were looking for a person to show us to a table. They did not even bother to acknowledge us, nor get the missing host. 1 of the floor mangers did run our meals out to us, yet he placed side orders out first, when the entree is the main course and should be placed in front of the guest first. The food was not seasoned, tasted very commercially prepared. Both guacamole and shredded cabbage were definitely just tossed on my plate straight from their commercial packaging. The grilled tacos were good & tasty, had 1 steak and 1 chicken breast, yet not much cheese or anything else. No good sauce to add to the tacos, the ranch dressing was definitely just bulk, not house made. The black beans & Mexican rice were nicely seasoned. My husband had okay tortilla soup & a very basic salad. And the iced tea was served warm enough to melt all the ice in my glass. Will be quite a long while again before we go back! We ate the first basket and was checking the menu and they said they charge for refills! Of chips! I was disappointed, shocked, and sad. Then our awesome waitress strolled by and refilled them, and the salsa. Asked how much it was and she said "oh we really don't charge for refills if you're ordering food". Phew. We had a fresh, quick lunch here. Despite a packed parking lot, we were seated right away. A pleasant server greeted us within minutes with fresh salsa and chips! This was my very first time in Texas and had never tried Tex-Mex food before. The hostess was very friendly and efficient, although they were busy we were seated immediately. Within the next couple seconds, our server Caroline, greeted us with chips and salsa and was very charismatic. She made us feel welcomed, she even offered us the spicy salsa which was so delicious. She was knowledgeable on the menu and recommended us dishes that fit our taste buds since my husband and I are selective eaters. The food came out HOT, quick and delicious. My husband and I ended up sharing the sizzling fajitas for 2. They were so tender, portions was great and the Spanish rice was so flavorful. Dropped by for lunch with my daughters. Adobe Cafe has been around for a long time and probably a New Braunfels staple. I had the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. and both my daughters had chicken enchiladas. My enchiladas were definitely good but I have had better. My daughters really liked their chicken enchiladas because they cleaned their plates. The rice and beans are good, but once again I've had better. One surprise I had is the corn and flour tortillas are homemade and I do love homemade corn tortillas. Our server was nice and after she took our order the food came out of the kitchen very quickly. I hadn't been here in many years but they really have kept the restaurant up to date. It even has a separate bar area. I don't live in New Braunfels but I will tell you this is a very popular place during lunch. read more
