A group of 10 ladies came in on a Thursday night for a birthday. We were the only ones here. Honestly I was a bit concerned about that... I mean we all know the saying. Now my concern has changed.... I'm concerned that so many of us are missing out on this amazing place! The margaritas are some of the best I've had, definitely a home made mix, and the top off of "holy water" is pretty awesome. The wine selection is impressive and the owner is very well versed in wines, I'd call him an unofficial sommelier. The food was so delicious, the chicken verde enchiladas were perfect and the salsa was spicy but so flavorful. So many times anything with heat is spicy and bland but not this. I even got chips and they were thin, crispy and perfect. Everyone was so attentive and wanted to make sure that everyone completely enjoyed their dish and drink. I had two delicious margaritas and am not a cheap date and I was feeling it, which was nice... a slight euphoric/buzzed feeling that is hard time come by most of the time. It's definitely not Tex mex. You aren't getting the typical "Mexican rice" anything but man it is better. The owner reminds me of a kind dad/grandpa. The kind of guy that is just fun to be around, his staff equally friendly. This place is one of the few family owned restaurants that are truly welcoming and family owned. Give them a try. Very friendly owner who we talked to nearly the whole time. It was a slow time late in the afternoon and they were just getting set up for dinner. We ordered octopus ceviche and shrimp cocktail. The ceviche came out pretty quickly. The shrimp cocktail came hot and my wife wanted it chilled. That took a bit. I loved the ceviche- it had a strong citrus flavor that complimented the octopus and vegetables. The shrimp cocktail was also good but just a tad sweeter than I prefer. My wife liked it just fine. It did have just the right amount of spice to it. The restaurant was cool and clean with nice paintings on the walls. Nothing extravagant but a nice Mexican flavor. They offered some fascinating menu items like scallops with strawberries and blueberries. I want to return to try that item. read more

Once you adjust and get past the odd atmosphere of satellite radio with ads, tables that look like they were repurposed from a country kitchen estate sale, and bottled water, you can then fully fall in love with the food. It's homemade AF. The corn tortillas are lovely. The chipotle chicken enchiladas were the best I've had in Texas. Prices are a tad steep, but again...it was the best enchiladas I've had in Texas. First timer. Was seeking authentic Mexican food. Have been disappointed in New Braunfels offerings that claimed to be the best. Fresh made guacamole in a molcajete was delicious. Ordered carne asada with my customization of a cheese enchilada on top covered in sauce. Thick, large, well seasoned carne, rice and beans. I lived in Mazatlan for five years and this is the closest I have come locally to authentic. Met Oscar, the owner, server etc lol, and had a great conversation as well as superior table service. Oscar shared that the owners of some of New Brauenfels top rated Mexican restaurants come here to eat! They are especially known for their varied menu, particularly ceviche for which I will be back! I really enjoyed the several dishes I tried while visiting Sal- o-man for a catered luncheon. The owner has so much pride in his restaurant, the service and plating of the food. Well, where to start. We tried this place at the recommendation of a couple of people. Owner was obnoxious and drove us to the most expensive items off the menu . Specials had no prices listed and were over priced. Carne asada? Skip it! Margaritas...hard pass. Beer? Warm. Service was horrible and there was some weird couple making out in there...the cook and his 'friend'. A table of employees sitting in the dining room eating and our water glasses went empty. Had to ask for the check twice.....we were the only people in there and the staff table just seemed oblivious to the fact that there were others in the room (the customers!!!). We decided to stop by and try this place out and was not disappointed. Food is outstanding! I had the filet mignon fajitas, and my wife had the red snapper. Both were very favorable with decent portions. All the veggies were fresh and tasty. Very well put together plates. The service was good, very friendly. Reasonable time to table. The ambiance was home like with soft listening music, Nat king Cole, Micheal buble, etc. This is a go and treat yourself place, not an everyday, as prices are $$$. The only thing we felt was out of place was paying $7.90 for two bottles of coke. It kinda takes away from the experience as you feel your kinda taken advantage of. Overwhelming no from me. I had the carne asada taco plate. The beans were cold and the meat was grizzly as another reviewer commented on. The waiter asked if I wanted any salsa and I said I'd try the poblano salsa. He walks over to the kitchen window right after but never comes back with any salsa. This was on a Saturday around noon and myself and one other table were the only tables needing orders at the time. There was a large table, but they were already served when I got there and just sitting around the whole time I was there. After watching "Top Gun: Maverick" in the theater (well done movie, by the way, and perhaps better than the original), my wife and I were in search of a place for a late lunch. We thought we'd try out Terrace but it was closed even though Yelp indicated it opened at 3 PM. We pivoted and decided to try out Sal o Mon after reading good reviews on Yelp. First of all, if you're heading west on FM 306, you'll have to make a U-turn as there's no access to this area (looks like a long warehouse partitioned into multiple spaces to accommodate various dining options)...and the sign in front of the restaurant is small and nondescript, it was so easy to miss. When we got there, we were the only diners. We sat ourselves and perused the menu which didn't have the usual suspects one sees at a Tex-Mex or Mexican restaurant. After asking the server/proprietor a few questions, my wife ordered the Corn on the Cow (steak over corn, onions, poblano, cheese and mayo) and I ordered the Asada with rice and beans. First off, there are no chips and salsa served. As Americans, I suppose we've come to expect this but as we learned while living in Italy, this is no different as they typically don't serve complimentary bread with dipping sauce there. Oh well, it's all good. My wife liked her dish with tender cubes of beef and a flavorful mix of ingredients. My dish, on the other hand, could've been better if the flank steak served wasn't as tough as shoe leather. I battled through it and I struggled to cut that meat. Perhaps their other offerings would've been better but I couldn't get over how tough that meat was and how flavorless it was. I had to request some spicy salsa to eat it with. If it wasn't for my wife liking her dish, I would've been tempted to give them 2 stars. Late lunch for 2 came out to just over $40 with tip. Safe to say, I don't think we'll be back. read more

We tried Sal-O-Mon for the first time this week in New Braunfels! The Calamari was delicious and tender with a great sauce! My husband had snapper with shrimp, rice and asparagus. I had Berry scallops with shrimp. It had delicious sauce but no berries. There was enough to take home. This is native Mexican food not Tex Mex in a small restaurant. The staff were happy to answer questions and we enjoyed the wine. They serve food with no onions for our SIL. There are cooking lessons as well! Charming restaurant. Owner was super nice. Had dinner with my youngest last night, it was our first time here. When we first got there around 7 we were the only diners. After awhile a few more diners came in. I got the enchiladas topped with the carne and green sauce. Perfect amount of spice. The carne had a fantastic flavor. My youngest had the carne plate and again it had a fantastic flavor. And going back to the charm of the restaurant, it's cozy and inviting. Mix match plates which I love and it just adds to the atmosphere. They do not have tea so I got water (bottled) and it appears they don't charge for the water. I noticed that on my receipt after I paid. I'm assuming they have canned sodas and they would charge for those. They have wine but I'm not sure of how they charge. There wasn't anything listed regarding any of the drinks. If you're wanting something different than your typical place to eat I highly recommend this place. I'd like to come back for breakfast and lunch. They have different items on the lunch menu compared to dinner. All and all this is a nice tasty little (hidden) gem place to eat. read more

Found ourselves very hungry in the beautiful city of Schertz, Texas. Searched for "Best Mexican Tacos near me" and discovered "Sol-O-Mon" was nearby. The pictures of the food was very inviting. So off we go. Now the location is very misleading. It looks like an old Country storefront with its galvanized siding. Inside was totally different. Quant intimate setup with several small tables. The owner was setting up for a private dinner party and he explained how he does private dinning on holidays and they always sell out. We order a few items as we just needed something to tide us over before meeting with friends for dinner. My wife and I ordered the "Asada Tacos" and I order an extra "Shrimp Taco" Both Tacos were excellent. The Asada meat was very flavorful and the "Pico de Gallo", was seasoned just right. For me the Shrimp Tacos" hit the spot. The shrimp was nice and tender, cooked just right. Not tough and rubbery. Came with its own Pico, and was perfect. I don't know how many people are aware of this location and the owner mentioned their building a new location, and will retain the same name. After enjoying the food the owner took the time to give us some background on the wine he sold. He explained how soil and weather is very important to the quality of wine you will produce. I love dinning in small locations like this where the owners and servers can take the time to give you some background on their locations. Sorry to say, but I will fight the traffic from Georgetown and return. Gotta try the "Ribeye tacos" and the "Filet tacos" Thanks "Sal-O-Mon" for an amazing experience. An entree special of shrimp in blueberry sauce was phenomenal with unique and sweet/savory flavors.
