We were visiting from out of town and wanted to try a local winery, and had a wonderful time! Staff was warm and friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the wines. We did two different wine flights - French Fling was my favorite. Outdoor patio was relaxing with a chill ambiance. If we were more local, I would love to come to some of the events that are hosted throughout the month.

Water to Wine is a sweet little wine bar/tasting room/winery in downtown New Braunfels. The staff was friendly and helpful as we considered our options. The flights consisted of 4 samples with the suggested wines listed on the menu. You could, however, substitute other wines for those that were suggested. We ordered 2 flights. I opted to get samples of 3 wines before i decided on a glass, and was pleasantly surprised when the samples were the same size as the glasses on the flights. I did end up ordering a glass of amerone after trying the samples. The hostess served a bowl of salty snacks to go along with our wines. We enjoyed munching and tasting and ended up buying a couple of bottles to go.

this spot was very cute and i enjoyed stopping in. i was served immediately and the employee who helped me pick my wine picked so wonderfully that i didn't end up getting any of their flights- which was my original plan- and stuck to the glasses of wine he poured. i ordered one of their flatbreads which did leave me wanting, nothing very impressive but was good enough to where i ate the whole thing. my highlight was definitely the wine, which is what it should be when at a wine bar. would probably go back and order the bottle of whatever glasses he had served me, it was so yummy.

Tre and Angel are amazing hosts. I brought a group from work and it could not have gone better. Hosts are extremely knowledgeable about wine, we just told them what we liked and they consistently gave us wine that matched. They also recommended some different ones we haven't tried. Good food to. Highly recommend. You should definitely ask for recommendations on new wine too!

Great service, prices, and was surprising live music tonight. Service was a bit slow though due to a lot of business this evening. 3rd time going and I'd go back.

We had an awesome time at the winery. Excellent customer service and experience. We started with a flight of red wines and left with a case.

I just love strolling through Gruene. I know a lot of the businesses here are geared towards…read moretourists. However, most of them are small business owners and need to be supported. The fact that there is a huge, free parking lot in town makes things a lot easier for getting in and out of the historic district. Can you believe this little German enclave has been around since the 19th century? So much to do here from the antique shops and boutiques to restaurants, general store, and let's not forget legendary Gruene Hall (oldest dance hall in Texas). It's a great place for locals and tourists alike. So much history and just a great way to spend a day.

I've been here twice so far, as a stop between San Antonio and Austin. Both times were during the…read moreafternoon, on a weekend, when it is predominantly a tourist attraction. The historic Gruene Hall was the main draw for me, which is mainly a place to be a spectator of live music, while having a drink or dance. McConauhaze (by Twisted X Brewing Company in Dripping Springs) is the hazy IPA that I enjoyed from the bar. I'd love to return for the evening entertainment from Sunday through Friday. Especially for swing dancing on Tuesdays, and two-step on Thursdays--both nights start with an optional dance lesson for $12. Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar is very good, but lacks vegan options. El Chingón IPA (by Four Corners Brewing in Dallas) is the Texas beer that I enjoyed here. Gruene Grove is a nice outdoor patio to take in some live music and grab a drink from the bar, but they don't let you enter or leave with your drink. I had the bartender make a "black and tan" for me by blending a stout and pale ale on tap from local breweries. I was eager to enjoy the Italian-style bratwurst from Wurst in Gruene, but they were out of the Beyond brat option. The Grapevine is a good beer and wine bar that opens to an outdoor patio with stage and live music. Sputnik Russian Imperial Coffee Oatmeal Stout (by Austin Beerworks) is the draft beer that I enjoyed here. It was nice to be able to walk around freely with it (which I even took with me into Gruene Hall). Hunter Road is full of unique shops to buy apparel, souvenirs, edibles, drinks, and other boutique specialties. The names of small businesses get carried away with a play on words, using the fact that Gruene is pronounced "green." Examples include The Gruene Haus, The Gruene Olive Tasting Room, Gruene with Envy, Red & Gruene Holiday Shop, and The Gruene Door. Other silly names include Tipsy Gypsy and Fickle Pickles. I look forward to experiencing more here in the future.

Texas Mead Works - Afterwards on the porch. Went great with a black olive pizza. 25APR26

25APR26 Been on…read moretheir mailing list a few years, and finally my schedule and their (Texas Mead Works/Blue Lotus Winery) day trip offerings aligned. Saturday afternoon kokedama (think potting plants, but doing it without pots) was listed as 1pm to 3pm, and with the advice to show up early if you wanted to order drinks or snacks to enjoy in the course of it. Most people seem to have gathered and done their sampling beforehand. We arrived ten minutes early and were third in line to order in the tasting room, where there was only one employee on duty. She was kind and informative, and we managed to walk in to class what used to be politely termed as fashionably late. I had a glass of peach mead in hand, Mr R had a chocolate bar in hand and a black olive pizza on order. The kokedama class was fun, run by a couple who had recently been florists in their own storefront. Tables had been nicely prepped beforehand. An hour later, a mixed group of plant experts and novices left with attractive creations that had a story/memory attached. On exiting the event room, Mr R took our plants to the car and went to fetch the pizza. I wandered back into the tasting room and asked whether she recommended trebbiano or dry Viognier for someone who likes pinot gris. Samples proved tasty and while they were both really nice on their own, I went with a bottle of trebbiano for lunch. The pizza was lovely--great crust, tasty but balanced toppings, perfect serving temperature--and we enjoyed it on the back porch. Splitting it between two adults was perfect for lunch and the rest of the bottle went in the trunk for the ride home. The chocolate bar predictably transformed waiting on the porch with us in full sunlight (our bad planning, it recovered in the fridge at home) as we had a laugh and enjoyed good food. Some of the other participants came and went as well, but most chose to depart for the rest of their day or stay inside in the AC, which I understand. Outside, of course, we got to enjoy local birds, sounds of kids and horses enjoying Saturday afternoon life on nearby properties, and a couple Guinea fowl who wandered by after the pizza was gone. We were on the less finished end of the grounds, but could see the nearby rental cabins (built to resemble wine casks) and a pavilion for weddings and other parties. There were several chairs and tables just outside the tasting room as well as inside. It's not a full restaurant, just a short list of maybe four items to accompany wine/mead tasting or satisfy friends who have tagged along. The shiny columns of bottles are the main reason most people are here, and there is a nice variety of flavors to enjoy. Prices are reasonable and there's the option of a wine club if you want to explore more than just an afternoon of beverages or have favorites you plan on enjoying regularly. You don't have to participate in a scheduled activity to just visit on your own, but it can be an added incentive to make the drive out. They close at 6pm.
