    Garcia's queso
    Elizabeth A. H.

Comfortable restaurant good for families, groups and solo diners. The wait staff were charming and friendly. I ordered Garcia's queso and the vegetable quesadillas both of which were tasty. The queso had a nice heat but it was a little salty. The vegetable quesadillas were out of this world. I highly recommend them. The table service salsa was not remarkable, but the light crispy chips were great.

I lived in San Marcos when I attended Texas State almost 15 years ago. Back then I recall there only being one location. It's nice to see they've expanded. The food is still great for Tex Mex and just how I remembered it. Food: 4/5 It's classic Tex Mex. I do think $1 per taco was a bit much to sprinkle a little cheese on a taco. The carne asada was tender but a bit salty. The portions were good especially for the kids meal. We loved the chips and salsa. I could have done without the toppings in the Garcia's chile con queso. It really didn't make that much of a difference. Service: 5/5- Our server was fast, really fast. We were sat and the hostess took our drink order. Our server came by about five minutes later with our drinks. We knew what we wanted so he took all of our order at once. Our queso came out a few minutes later and our food within ten minutes of that. Everything was hot and as we'd ordered. Love this place for Tex Mex. The restaurant was clean. The staff took extra time to clean messes under tables before the next table sat down. That's not something I've seen restaurants do often. Great place!

Cake by after a LONG day at the courthouse. This place is literally around the block. Place had plenty of seating, open, clean & inviting. Plenty of parking and outside seating too. Abby was our server. Friendly and efficient. Was told by my friends that I had to have their sweet tea- it didn't disappoint. Chips and red salsa brought to the table to start. Chips were warm and fresh. Food ordered and received in about ten minutes. Two people had tortilla soup combo-yummy reviews, one had beef fajita nachos & I ordered cheese enchiladas with enchilada gravy. Tasted the beef nachos, which were about 8 nachos constructed for you with beans, pico, beef fajita & white cheese (they do have another nacho option that's just a pile of chips with toppings). They were yummy!! Asked for hotter salsa & got salsa verde. It was good!! A spice level up from red salsa & tasty! Cheese enchiladas were gooey and cheesy goodness! Rice and beans were good too. Overall, not disappointed at all. Good food, good service. All good to go!

Got my arroz con pollo fix while we were in town and it didn't disappoint, again. Good service, good food as always. Also, loved seeing the progression of renovations on the place. The bar area and server station looks great!

Back to a-ok. TLDR not fancy, budget friendly, best thing I ever ate at this location was their arroz con pollo. Called in an order for pickup as directed by their website. They didn't have any of the "new recipes" listed online today--I don't know if they're limited run or only at the original site downtown. The lady on the phone was kind and efficient, and told me which numbered to-go parking spot to use as well as a time estimate (15 min). I parked and waited, unsure if i was supposed to walk in or call but a friendly employee came out in less than two minutes with an order for the neighboring space. She checked my name and took my credit card, returning with receipts, my card, and my order. Upon my destination, I found they didn't include any napkins or flatware (and I had not specifically requested either) and all the items were correct. The guisada beef was nicely seasoned, the gravy was on the salty side. The beans were standard and their rice was really great today. Seasoned chicken in the sour cream enchiladas was tasty. The chips were nice and a sufficient serving, and the small guacamole was the very best part of the meal. Fresh taste and texture, beautiful color. The serving size of the chicken enchiladas was good. The beef could have been a little more generous, but given the whole meal was about $28 after tax/before tip, we can't expect a mountain of it. I think the location nearer the square has the edge on flavor but this spot has much easier parking and supplies the basics.

Garcia's has many locations now all over Central Texas and I think it's because the food is so good. This is a new location here in San Marcos and the local garage keeps it busy. Several beers on tap including dos Equis and Corona with Bud light and Miller lite for domestics. The fajitas are always a good go to but my favorite is the Mexican enchilada plate and the cheese enchiladas. Nice open spacer interior and not too loud. The staff is helpful and quick to get your food out.

The enchilada sauce is watery, the beans are okay. Do not recommend. Below average Mexican food.

Beware of the "5 Star" Reviews…read more Offering free drinks/apps in exchange. I do want to point out that I never submit reviews. Went in and sat down quick, yet the food took over an hour. We sat, ordered drinks along with the food when we got there. After we realized the people around us that arrived significantly later were already paying to leave, we got up to ask about our food as it had easily been 40 minutes. Got told it would be a couple of minutes, gave us waters. Mind you, we are now over an hour into waiting. Food started to roll out and we kept getting offered free chips in the meantime- sorry but this solves the situation how? We are now going to be full of chips and not food. 2 of the meals still took an extra 20 min after the majority rolled out and of course, my parents' food came out COLD. What were we waiting for on this exactly? A lady, who I am assuming is the manager, came to apologize, told us she would remove the 2 items from the ticket. We were understanding. However, she then admitted they dropped the ball- this is where this place really lost us. She stated that they tried to reheat the plates and just pass it as "fresh." Thank you for finally being honest but this truly just gave me a bad image of management. I felt like they just threw the team under the bus. We asked for the check and when we asked if she did comp the 2 plates, she gave an attitude responding, "I did, I fixed it" and then proceeded to send someone else to check us out. That is not how you manage or take ownership. As a manager myself, you take care of the person full on through to try and turn the situation around. Had she done that or had the staff communicated that they messed up when we had initially asked, we would've been completely fine instead all that happened here. We were in there for about 2.5 hours. Unfortunately left disappointed due to the good reviews we initially saw.

The restaurant got busier after we sat at our table. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside. The inside isn't much either. But the food and service was TOTALLY EXCEPTIONAL! We ordered some pot stickers and roll appetizers. They were very good. I ordered the "C4 Panang" with shrimp. The one word to describe this dish is "AMAZING!" The flavors were deep and complex. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit. The service was also excellent. My son ordered a dish with "Fried Snapper" which he enjoyed very much. I consider my son an expert in Thai food since he's been to Thailand and lived in England where the cuisine is heavily influenced by India and Thailand. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals. Our waitperson checked on our table often but not overly intruding into our table's conversation. And the "Fried Ice Cream" and "Mango Rice" were unique and excellent endings to a great meal. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant.

The new onions and peppers as well as eggs tasted fresher than most breakfast places. Still love their middle-ground salsa. Avocado toast benedict is Mr R's new favorite, (beating out their carnitas in his opinion and even after eating most of a tub of Fuego's good guacamole this weekend). I think it's absolutely wonderful, the only drawback being one of the soft eggs had leaked beautiful golden yolk but the base of toast and fried potatoes did a good job soaking it up. Enjoyable balance of rich and fresh, beautiful colors, filling without being sleep-inducing. It's more expensive than drive-through sausage biscuits or a taco stand and there's a wait if you don't call in your order ahead, but there is some tasty stuff here made with decent ingredients and presented well. Once again, it would have been worth the price without the coupon and I understand why this parking lot was busy after church hours. We'll definitely be back.

We finally got silverware and napkins but needed yet another set because there was food still on my fork. Finally tried the queso and the chips were horrible. My friend thought they were left out from the night before, i said the humidity just killed them as for being seasoned as the menu says, they were not. The menu looked great so I was excited when we ordered our entrees. An Eggs Benedict, 2 Megs Pecan Chicken Salad, The Islander and a Grilled Turkey and Tomato. The chicken salad was not chilled, not sure if it had been sitting out for a while, but the mayo was translucent. Overall, not much flavor, on a bed of greens that were difficult to eat because they were so big. There was also ketchup on the edge of my salad bowl. Not sure what others thought, but half of the sandwich was left, along with the Islander salad. I was really looking forward to trying this place out. If they were overwhelmed from the front of the house to the back, it showed. I will try this place again when its not such a busy weekend.
