I'm kind of upset that Garcia's doesn't have at least 4 stars on Yelp. In my opinion, they're a Tex-Mex San Marcos staple and I've been eating here for well over a decade (in college and out). My most recent visit was great. I noticed they've done some renovations, and they're down selling wine based margaritas. Comfortable restaurant good for families, groups and solo diners. The wait staff were charming and friendly. I ordered Garcia's queso and the vegetable quesadillas both of which were tasty. Cake by after a LONG day at the courthouse. This place is literally around the block. Place had plenty of seating, open, clean & inviting. Plenty of parking and outside seating too. Abby was our server. Friendly and efficient. Was told by my friends that I had to have their sweet tea- it didn't disappoint. Chips and red salsa brought to the table to start. Chips were warm and fresh. Food ordered and received in about ten minutes. Two people had tortilla soup combo-yummy reviews, one had beef fajita nachos & I ordered cheese enchiladas with enchilada gravy. Tasted the beef nachos, which were about 8 nachos constructed for you with beans, pico, beef fajita & white cheese (they do have another nacho option that's just a pile of chips with toppings). They were yummy!! Asked for hotter salsa & got salsa verde. It was good!! A spice level up from red salsa & tasty! Cheese enchiladas were gooey and cheesy goodness! Rice and beans were good too. I lived in San Marcos when I attended Texas State almost 15 years ago. Back then I recall there only being one location. It's nice to see they've expanded. The food is still great for Tex Mex and just how I remembered it. Food: 4/5 It's classic Tex Mex. I do think $1 per taco was a bit much to sprinkle a little cheese on a taco. The carne asada was tender but a bit salty. The portions were good especially for the kids meal. We loved the chips and salsa. I could have done without the toppings in the Garcia's chile con queso. It really didn't make that much of a difference. Service: 5/5- Our server was fast, really fast. We were sat and the hostess took our drink order. Our server came by about five minutes later with our drinks. We knew what we wanted so he took all of our order at once. Our queso came out a few minutes later and our food within ten minutes of that. Everything was hot and as we'd ordered. Love this place for Tex Mex. The restaurant was clean. The staff took extra time to clean messes under tables before the next table sat down. That's not something I've seen restaurants do often. Great place! read more

Everyone was nice that I spoke with. Customer service isn't the issue but the kitchen is. I simply ordered nachos supreme. 1. Looked nothing like the picture on the internet 2. It came out in 2 mins which should've been a red flag but it's nachos so okay. Easy to make. 3. Everything was cold from the beans to the cheese. Like it had been sitting there all day. Wouldn't stop here again. Normally would've sent it back but it was only around $12 and I had a feeling if I sent it back, it would've come out the same way. Just keep driving by this place. Back to a-ok. TLDR not fancy, budget friendly, best thing I ever ate at this location was their arroz con pollo. Called in an order for pickup as directed by their website. They didn't have any of the "new recipes" listed online today--I don't know if they're limited run or only at the original site downtown. The lady on the phone was kind and efficient, and told me which numbered to-go parking spot to use as well as a time estimate (15 min). I parked and waited, unsure if i was supposed to walk in or call but a friendly employee came out in less than two minutes with an order for the neighboring space. She checked my name and took my credit card, returning with receipts, my card, and my order. Upon my destination, I found they didn't include any napkins or flatware (and I had not specifically requested either) and all the items were correct. The guisada beef was nicely seasoned, the gravy was on the salty side. The beans were standard and their rice was really great today. Seasoned chicken in the sour cream enchiladas was tasty. The chips were nice and a sufficient serving, and the small guacamole was the very best part of the meal. Fresh taste and texture, beautiful color. The serving size of the chicken enchiladas was good. The beef could have been a little more generous, but given the whole meal was about $28 after tax/before tip, we can't expect a mountain of it. I think the location nearer the square has the edge on flavor but this spot has much easier parking and supplies the basics. read more

First time at this Garcia restaurant. Food was delicious. Service was quick and friendly. Had the chicken enchiladas with the cilantro white sauce. So good!! Prices reasonable. A bit noisy inside is the only thing I would prefer to be quieter so you can hear each other talking. Highly recommend for the great food! read more

After work on a Friday, we were HUNGRY! We were sat instantly, it was about 7:30 when we got there. We placed orders for iced teas as we were sat. Our server brought our drinks, we got some queso as an app. Andrew was our server and he's a peach! We went on to order the trio enchilada plate and a Mom#2 plate. It was the perfect amount of food for my husband and I. All of the different enchiladas were awesome! Andrew took good care of us and offered to go stuff....but we ate it all! Stumbled upon this gem on a random Thursday with family that was in town from Maryland. I ordered the mom's #1 (one ground beef taco, small tortilla bowl of queso, and rice) I asked for fresh peppers on the side and this meal was hands down the best Mexican food I've ever had! Garcia's has many locations now all over Central Texas and I think it's because the food is so good. This is a new location here in San Marcos and the local garage keeps it busy. Several beers on tap including dos Equis and Corona with Bud light and Miller lite for domestics. The fajitas are always a good go to but my favorite is the Mexican enchilada plate and the cheese enchiladas. Nice open spacer interior and not too loud. Did you know there are at least seven Garcia's locations where you can enjoy some of the best Tex-Mex I have had between Buda, Kyle, San Marcos (2 locations here), Seguin, Lockhart, and Schertz?! You literally have no excuse not to stop by and have some delicious food with homemade tortillas! We have been to the Buda, Kyle, and now this location located in San Marcos and we have not been disappointed at either locations as their food is great and service is fantastic. We came to this location to celebrate a family birthday as we had a group of 7 people and Garcia's was able to accommodate us all in a spacious table on a weekend! Our server was fantastic as well as we always had filled up drinks, she tended to all our extras we needed (extra salsa, more chips, more napkins, etc), and organized our orders by party/payment. I highly recommend their beef fajitas as their portions are large and the amount of cheese they give you on your enchiladas are generous! My boyfriend really loves everything on the menu here including their carne guisada! This location has a great patio as well with tv's outside! I would recommend watching a game here on their patio when the weather is nicer. Parking super easy as all spots are right in front of the restaurant & plenty of spaces. We will definitely come back next celebration as this location is the best in between or halfway point between our San Antonio family and our Austin family. read more

I have had poor service on numerous occasions but last night was the last straw! I am scheduled for back surgery and can barely walk, but I am preparing about 6 weeks of being in total bedrest. So, I drove in from Wimberley to run in for some curbside errands. I wasn't feeling well but was getting all my errands completed. My number one criteria is great customer service above food and ambiance. I happen to love Garcia's but today I decided to come to San Marcos location behind the Frost bank. The worst experience. The biggest issue from what could have been a really good review was the lack of great customer service from our waiter. He seemed to be a bit snippy with us but courteous with others. Something about us, we know it's not easy to serve especially on a Sunday and we are generous with tips for really good service. This lacked that. We were not rude or I would understand but I guess there was something about us and where we were seated that almost felt as if we were being punished and seated at the corner. I'm willing to give this place another chance because the food was really good but the service from this waiter needs improvement. Treat everyone the same. Stopped in for date night and was surprised to be seated immediately even though the parking lot was packed. We had a nice seat outside and the best surprise was no one was smoking! Ordered the Margarita and it was strawberry and frozen. About as straight forward as you could imagine. Then had the guacamole with chips. The chips were good, not great and the guacamole was about as average as you could get. If it was white I would have thought it was wonder bread. Uninspiring and not very tasty. I had the shrimp fajitas which were very good and the flour tortillas were just about perfect with them. The rice was about in line with the guacamole and the charro beans were more of the same. The best part of the place was the exceptional service from whatever waiter was coming by. They all seemed to be working all the tables in a pretty good harmony. The only wonky thing was no one checked on drinks when we finished ours. I would have been willing to order another but no one ever asked. That was wonky. Then they all must have had a team meeting because they seemed to abandon the outside seating about the time we wanted to check out. Seemed odd. Stick with the original location. Extensive menu of tacos and plates, but lacks flavor in several areas such as the tortillas, the beans and the cheese wasn't well melted on the bean and cheese. Whenever I order at restaurants I order both the beans and cheese and enchiladas and here they both went sour on my list of places to try. The chicken fried steak and eggs were good, probably because the gravy was hot and warm on top of the steak and that's my favorite. Probably won't return until they do a better job of melting cheese on food. We've been a fan of this place for the food, even if the service is VERY hit or miss. We understand that the 'rona has caused everyone to adjust, to zig, to zag, etc., but we feel that if you're gonna do it, then do it to the best of your ability. To be fair, Garcia's call-in system is pretty good. They assign a space for you to park when you arrive so they know you're there and they know who you are. But, since this mess has started, the quality of the product they are offering has definitely gone downhill. They didn't give us and chips and salsa, and when we asked about that, they told us it would be an additional $4.95 for a SMALL order of chips and salsa! The portion of charra beans has mysteriously gotten smaller, too. So, they wanted us to pay 50% more for our food, just to have a small order of chips and salsa? Does that seem reasonable? Texican Cafe in Kyle includes chips and salsa and ample tortillas as part of the meal price. Look, I get it. If you're losing money or not making the usual margins, then OPEN your doors to 25% dine-in capacity as other restaurants are doing. The bottom line is this: If you're gonna do it, then do it RIGHT.
