Eggs Benedict with grilled biscuits in place of English muffin--and home fries
Denise A.

I had not been here in quite a while, so decided to stop by today for a late breakfast. The place was packed on a Friday late morning/early afternoon. I ordered eggs Benedict--with a grilled biscuit in place of the English Muffin. Sooooo good. Eggs were poached perfectly--allowing the yolk to ooze out with each cut. Hollandaise sauce, grilled biscuit and Canadian Bacon were all super, super tasty. I left most full and completely satisfied.

Bacon and cheese omelette, I added spinach with home fries and wheat toast. (And of course, coffee)

After seeing some of the mixed reviews for this place, I will not lie, I was hesitant. Not that I let others opinions dictate where I eat, but I do take them into consideration when choosing where to dine. When entering today at about 11:30am, I was greeted by one of the waitress' and I asked to sit at the counter. They weren't crazy busy which is just what I like. She handed me a menu and followed me over. A young man said hello and asked what I would like to drink, coffee of course. The third waitress, Daisy, did seem to have an attitude upon greeting me but did manage to get my order in right away and was friendly with some of the regulars. Once the food arrived she didn't ask if I needed anything else, but after my first few bites she checked back with me that my order was correct and satisfying. I got an omelette with bacon, American cheese and spinach with a side of home fries and wheat toast. There was plenty of cheese and spinach to my preference, the only suggestion I would make is to switch to the strips of bacon to cook and chop in house instead of the pre-processed bacon bits that are not cooked so well. The home fries weren't as burned as some of the previous reviewers had mentioned, I personally don't mind some crispy pieces mixed in with mine, however they were lacking some spices for flavor. I did appreciate the use of sautéed onions and peppers in them though. Toast was typical for a breakfast place. Atmosphere is a home like generic diner (not good or bad) I would return here if I was in the area again. It was conveniently locates on my route for the day and I was in and out in about 30mins.

So far I have tried their crepe's, their french toast and their eggs. Loved them all! Grace's is a great way to start the day!

Don't order for pick up. Best to eat at the restaurant so when they burn your food you can send it back. We have eaten here and ordered pick up several times, we even clearly said lightly toasted and still get burnt bread.

Another great experience !!! Food was great and the server. Took my good friend here when she requested a good breakfast on a Friday morning. Knew this was the place to bring her . Today we went with philly omelette with peppers, cheese, onions and mushrooms. Loads of steak where you don't know where the egg meets and the steak ends, perfect !!! The home fries it came with is delicious. My friend ordered the house made hash and scrambled eggs on side . She loved it and will return to have that again she stated.

Sometimes the service is subpar; took a while to get coffee... overall it wasn't busy and we expected more.

Best breakfast around in my opinion... real cheap as well. Recommend the bacon egg and cheese and the banana bread.. both are excellent.

Good place for breakfast. Order the bacon soft if you don't like it well done. If you come before 9 on a Sunday if you don't want to wait.

The food is always exceptional and they have the best most fluffy, delicious pancakes around. The homefries are also great with onions mixed in and seasoned nicely with paprika and the omelets are big. Overall, the portions are great. We've always had wonderful service and the wait staff are very pleasant. Maybe the people who have service issues are not so nice themselves; there's a lot of entitled people in the world. My husband loves the grande breakfast, and it's just that...huge! The restaurant is always clean and there is a mix of booths, tables and counter seating. Although I will say that the proximity of the counter to the stool is a little far away so I don't recommend the counter seats if you have low back issues. Today is Father's Day and the kitchen was cranking to get the food out as quickly as possible. We love this place.

It's a classic diner setting with many booths and tables. Usually staffed with a few waitresses. Classic diner menu but they do sprinkle in Spanish specials regularly. The diner can easily be missed driving on Highland Ave as it is tucked in between a gas station and a neighboring car wash. Plenty of private parking. Check it out for yourself.

The chef made me a wonderful, tasty, fresh quesadilla on Friday. The crunch of his quesadilla was…read moreso good compared to just a warmed-up one in a microwave I've had elsewhere. The two cheeses plus a fresh tomato and lime were all that this large lunchtime meal needed to satisfy me. He is the lone staff, so be prepared to wait while you sit outside the restaurant in the open space with tables provided. He serves the meal himself. The vibe is a bit noisy at times as people walk through the dining area on their way to other venues in this old converted factory space. I thought it was a great idea to recycle old factory buildings along the Rails to Trails walkway in Southington. If you want an unconventional meal and like wandering around, popping into stores like the chocolate store or brewery, try it out.

We couldn't wait to come back. Several months later on our second visit, we arrived well before their posted closing time - 9pm. It was around 7:45pm, the lights were on, but the door was locked and the staff seemed to be cleaning up. One of them looked up, saw us standing at the door and then went back to doing whatever they were doing without bothering to engage with us. It was incredibly frustrating having driven almost an hour with the expectation of getting some delicious food, only to be ignored by staff at a time when they were supposed to be open. Many months later (giving them the benefit of the doubt that the early closure on our last visit was a fluke) we made the trip up again. We arrived to find the place was locked up and dark - again during a time when they were supposed to be open. Today I was with some friends and we stopped to have lunch at Smokin' With Chris next door. During our meal, I mentioned my past experiences with The Lab, but also said how good the food was. So, we walked over to look at the menu and possibly pick up dinner for later that evening. It was around 1:30pm, the lights were off and the door was locked. I double-checked their website, and they were supposed to be open at 11:30am. While I was on my phone, an employee came up, unlocked the door, turned on the lights and began his shift - two full hours after they were supposed to be open! WTF?! Apparently, the owners of The Lab seem to believe that their food is so epic that they can just operate their business whenever they like regardless of their posted hours. This total lack of consideration for their customers is beyond insulting. It's really too bad because the food is good, but not good enough to offset the unprofessional manner the owners are running (or in this case, not running) this place. There are way too many other great dining options available nearby that actually adhere to their posted hours to put up with this nonsense.
