Great range of creative subs, and I really appreciate that almost everything can be made vegetarian or vegan, using eggplant or their homemade seitan (I've enjoyed the seitan on multiple occasions). I was excited after the ratings, but pretty disappointed overall. Just ok food, and disorganized service. I won't return. Food: We got Bahn Mi, Chupacabra, macaroni salad and panda wings. The wings were soggy and cold (see service below) and probably would have been good hot. My girlfriend tried one bite and quit. The Bahn Mi had fresh veggies that were tasty and had a good crunch, but the pork was very dry. It was worth eating, but not buying again. The Chupacabra was just that same dry pork, but covered in a sauce that didn't really cover up the lack of flavor. My girlfriend said it tasted like a three toothed desert rat. It wasn't worth eating. Service: They acted busy, but didn't seem to have that many folks getting food, just an average day at mist places. But here it was too much for them. As a result they couldn't take our order on the phone, and asked that we use their website. They were too busy for me to let them know I had arrived, too busy to give directions to a restroom, or to bring out our food on time (curbside delivery). With this local gem, I don't bother going anywhere else for sandwich in Ithaca. And now with new random dessert options, I always leave with a little extra something! Last week it was a delightful key lime pie in a cup! After trying multiple options, all of which have been tasty, I'm now quite devoted to their Blue Fire! I get it every time, sometimes with fried pickles, sometimes fries, but always with a couple donuts to-go! A highlight of our trip to Ithaca. My Pork Ban-Mi was awesome, and am so glad I decided to go with the special (half of a sandwich, order of fries, and a bottle of water) since a whole sandwich would have forced me to go back and take a nap instead of continuing our touring. The lovely cashier was also kind enough to give us each (4 of us) a sample of the homemade donut holes. Good googly moogly were they good - excellent icing on a soft, doughy ball. I don't understand why it takes so long to get a sandwich. The sandwiches themselves are pretty good, especially the pork. I found the steak a little tough and chewy and I don't care for shredded chicken, but the toppings and flavor combinations work well. They do consistently overdress the sandwiches, which results in a fairly soggy finish. I'd recommend that you eat it soon after it's prepared. The big problem is the service. They're chronically understaffed and it regularly takes half an hour or longer for even a small, simple order to be prepared. I have always loved Gorgers and their fresh cut french fries are freakin amazin! This is a COVID-19 review and yes, they are still open and still serving solid food but with a limited menu. Basically it's curbside service so you don't even have to leave your car. And after being locked up for weeks, I need some real food. As for the regular review... I absolutely love their mushroom swiss steak sandwich and the chipotle chicken. I have tried others but somehow I end up coming back to my staples. And do not sleep on their soups. I almost feel that some of their soups are better than the sandwiches! Sadly no soup during lockdown but I can't wait for them for them to be fully open again. Again, I don't understand how this place gets so many high ratings. I ordered Thai Chili sub - it was literally just chicken with pineapples. And if it wasn't for the acidic sweet kick of the pineapples, the chicken and roll would've lulled my taste buds to sleep. On top of that, I don't understand the whole passive aggressive tipping thing that is now expected even for when we go to the counter to pick up food. In this instance, I pay for the sandwich and she swings the touchscreen around for me to add tip. Why is tip expected when the cashier literally just hands the sandwich to me? Soups, sandwiches, fresh cut fries: everything here is awesome. The menu is large but simple, with lots of room for customization. Any sandwich can be made vegetarian by swapping in eggplant or seitan. My go-to is the blue fire (eggplant with blue cheese and spicy sauce.) The curry is absolutely sinful. The bread is baked in-house throughout the day. The staff is always nice. My friend introduced this place to me, and I've since introduced lots of my friends to it. It doesn't get as much hype as some other spots in Ithaca, but it really deserves it. This place is a real gem! read more

Their breadddddd! It's so good! They make their own bread fresh everyday. It's the best experience ever. Their sandwiches are juicy and flavorful, and they give you so much for how much you pay. They also have great vegan options! Those fried eggplants are on fire! Definitely hope that they can create more varieties of awesome vegan sandwiches! The only thing I would say is that sometimes they do give you lots of sauce. It can be very very saucy. The bread is so soft and fluffy (which is great) but it can't handle that much sauce. Such a great little place in Ithaca. The bread they use is super soft and perfect for their sandwiches. Along with the rest of my group, I opted for their lunch special, which is half a sub with choice of soup, fries, or salad and a beverage for $8. I had the Cuban with a cup of clam chowder while my sister had the Banh Mi with the clam chowder as well. All of the sandwiches we got were so flavorful and filling - and we only got half! The chowder was not great at all, but this place isn't known for soups, right? This is definitely the spot whether you're starving, sober, not sober, or just craving a good sandwich. They use paper towels as plates instead of washing dishes, which gives them a very casual environment (not to mention water conservation... although throwing out more paper so who knows if there's points for sustainability). Very unimpressed. Not sure why this place has so many stars. Had the bag. No and chupacabra and both were painfully dry despite dripping in poorly flavored sauce. The panda wings were cold, soggy and slimy with the wrong dressing. The macaroni salad was again swimming in sauce that was actually gross. One bite and trash kind of bad. Driving from Toronto to Philly, I wanted a fast spot with vegetarian options that would fuel the rest of the trip. I was tempted to drive straight through but this place had great reviews and I was hopeful, despite my better judgement. We ordered two vegetarian subs/hoagies/grinders, whatever. One full, one half and we waited. And waited. I finally realized may have lost the order. I was starving, but the place was busy, so I was understanding and patiently went to problem solve. I asked the guy who I placed the order with if my order was on the way. He confirmed that it was (not true). I waited behind three basic girls ordering (add tomato, no seeds, remove three cucumbers, triple the arugula, lite dressing on the side, double it kind of people) and then asked another person about my order. He confirmed that it was lost and put it back in immediately but not before we reviewed my order. Whew! He is on it! Several minutes later one sandwich comes out and then the next. Starving, we open them up right outside and, to my shock and dismay, not only were they both wrong, but (at least one) contained chicken. I made it clear both times when I ordered that I wanted vegetarian options. This place prides itself on being veggie friendly. Not cool. I go back in, a third time, and tell the that my order is still not correct. The person at the register asks me to review the order with him yet again. I exclaim that I actually do not care what I get at this point, as long as it is vegetarian food. I am hot, hungry, road weary, and now concerned that my food is going to get spit in because I had to send it back a 2nd time. I don't think they spit in it. A few minutes later, maybe 45+ minutes after I arrived, my food came out. A man with seeming responsibility brought out the final dishes to us and apologized, which was nice. He also said that if we came back on a shift that he was working that he would give us free sandwiches. Seemed weird that it would have to be on his shift only, either way we passed for a myriad of reasons. I guess it was the right order though some of it was unrecognizable, but it was fine. I would give the food 2 stars since I ate some of it and they bake their own bread, make their own seitan, plus have veggie/vegan options for all menu items, which is pretty cool. What is not cool is that the sandwich is 90% fluffy white bread, 5% cheese sauces, and 5% whatever else the sandwich is. I ordered something with cheddar, it had cheddar sauce not actual cheese. My husband ordered eggplant with blue cheese sandwich, there were two tiny eggplant pieces and no blue cheese, there was a yellow cheez sauce, however. They were really wet sandwiches. read more

Stumbled across this place by accident while enjoying Wizarding Weekend in Ithaca! Both make me want to come back and visit Ithaca again and again! After walking around at the festival all day we were hungry and this place caught our eye, so glad we came in! I love places where you order and then get to see your food made right in front of you. Fast service, there were plenty of people inside, but we got our food in good time. We just had a seat at the long bar along the kitchen and watched a variety of different foods being prepared. My husband and I both had a hard time deciding what to order as there was a huge selection of sandwiches, subs, nachos, and salads. I ordered the buffalo chicken nachos and it was fantastic! A huge container of nacho chips smothered in lots of toppings! I loved that they didn't hold back on the toppings on anything they sold. I can't say enough about how good they were, and how much there was. I had about half of mine left, it made for good late night leftovers after our evening out! Okay so I was skeptical walking into this place...not because it's a bit divey and not because it's more of a quick stop type of place--I go to places like this all the time. The issue was my friends and I came here after hearing here was a 1.5 hour wait at Just a Taste, a place I really wanted to go to. So when you go from Just a Taste to Gorgers Subs, I could not help but feel like I was settling. I. Was. So. Wrong. When we walked in, the first thing that really caught ,y eye was the beautiful blackboard artwork that displayed the menu. I am such a sucker for beautiful chalkboard art. The menu is simple, and easy to read. It is also SO accommodating of dietary needs. I went with a vegetarian and a vegan and I am a carnivore. My friends ended up getting the Bahn Mi with fried eggplant and I got the Bahn Mi with pork. We shared fries. It was delicious! Sandwiches come in a full and half sizes. A half size sandwich is more than enough for one person with an average appetite. My Bahn Mi was not exactly authentic but definitely flavorful and tastes very fresh. What I enjoyed was the Gorgers Sub bread was toasted but unlike a typical Bahn mi roll that is so toasted, it will cut the inside of your mouth, the toasted sub was perfect. We got here around 7pm and it were eating within 10 minutes. They cook sandwiches to order and everything is fresh, hot and just great. I've been meaning to come here for some and am glad I finally made it. Definitely will be back to try other things. As a side note, the place has longboards hanging as decor--uh awesome! read more

We stopped here on the recommendation of some locals to get a sandwich for our drive back to Buffalo and I'm so glad we did. I can't say enough good things about their food. You order up at the counter and then they grill and put together the food in front of you. It takes 5-10 minutes and it's certainly worth the short wait. I got the Cuban Sandwich (pulled pork, Canadian bacon, pickles, onions, mayo and mustard), while my fiance got the Vegetarian Bahn Mi (with eggplant), and our gluten free friend had them make the Bahn Mi sandwich as a salad for herself. We didn't actually confirm that it's 100% gluten free, but she wasn't that sensitive to it for it to matter. As others have mentioned, the sandwiches are huge. At least two meals-worth, even if you're a big eater like myself. Not easy to eat while driving without assistance. I can see why it's called "Gorgers!" I ate half of my sandwich on the road (absolutely delicious) and saved half for the next day. Surprisingly, it even warmed up well in the microwave and was still tasty. My only suggestion for this place would be to offer more variety of breads (whole wheat, multi-grain, etc) for a potentially healthier meal. I've tried this location a couple times, especially after working late some nights. It's on my way home, so it makes for a convenient stop. This little sub place is pretty close to the Commons, and the casual atmosphere is relaxing enough. It's the kind of place where I'd only get takeout, if only because the counter tables where you can enjoy your sandwich face a wall. Sure, there's stuff to look at ON the wall...but it's not exactly conducive to having a fun conversation or chilling with friends. I've tried a couple sandwiches here, including the bahn mi and the mushroom and swiss. The former was pretty good, but I was disappointed when I recently tried the mushroom and swiss sandwich. The steak was sinewy...chewy, and just tough to get down. The portions are significant, and the prices are pretty reasonable considering the size of the sandwiches. The credit card processing and tip issue, as someone has mentioned before, is a bit much. I have no issue with tipping, and I'll frequently give 20-30% tips for pretty good service at a sit down place...but if I'm just ordering something and taking it out? Eh. Seems less deserved. All in all, a convenient stop if you're in the area and craving a filling sandwich...but I wouldn't consider it a "must try." read more
