How much you like Golden City will depend on what you're looking for when getting Chinese food. If you're looking for a really well done dine-in experience, or something more along the lines of a dim sum restaurant? This is not the place for you. If you're looking for some easy, greasy, average Chinese takeout with ample portions, Well... here it is. While average dishes like beef & snow peas, etc. are mostly fine, what *seem* like they should be easy dishes, like chicken fried rice, are underwhelming (mostly plain yellow rice with a few bits of chicken thrown in, VERY FEW veggies, and no eggs), snd my most recent order was certainly undercooked. And honestly, all the dishes I've tried recently have been generally lacking in flavor. All in all, not a place I think I'm going to order from again - nor would I really recommend it. read more

Every time I order something here, it's never great. I like the noodle dishes, more specifically the chicken chow mei fun. The dish at this restaurant is sub-par. It always comes out a little "slimy" to me, for lack of a better description. So instead I tried to order chicken chow mein one night. A quick image google search will show you basically what chicken chow mein should look like: noodles, veggies, and some type of dark sauce. It's usually looks very vibrant and delish. Well I've attached a picture of what I received which is a bowl of chicken and cabbage. Again, "slimy" in texture. I threw it away, didn't eat one bite. They even clarified that I wanted the chow mein and we said yes. Also, their fried rice is not your typical white rice, scrambled eggs, soy sauce, carrots, etc. It is just plain yellow rice, with nothing else in it. If you order with a certain expectation, prepare to get something entirely different. read more

Upstate NY Chinese take away, run by a super nice family. Food is consistent and always hot. Call ahead and it's ready when they say. Always good for a lazy Friday dinner. Decor in the restaurant is ghastly, but you don't usually eat in a take away (in this case you can). read more

If you like excellent, high quality food with generous portions, deliciously prepared, this is the place. Strictly take-out but the best for our favorite, steamed chicken and vegetables with brown sauce and wonton soup. Perfectly seasoned and ready quickly. They really know what they're doing. Absolutely delicious food. From the outside and interior it may not look like much, but the food was great. The meals were really fresh and you could tell that they were made to order. If you are ever craving Chinese food and are in Dryden it is definitely worth the stop. I have ordered from this place twice. I have been disappointed both times. The first time, I ordered shrimp with snow peas, which was good, but also ordered the egg drop soup. Way too thick, really bad consistency from what I'm used to. Second time, I ordered good old sweet and sour chicken. There was hardly any chicken in the over greasy tempura batter. It was factory produced teeny rectangular pieces of "meat" about the circumference of a pencil. Very disappointed. It's been a few years since I had their food, but a while back I decided to get their Lomein, it was ok but the garlic was very strong and I didn't care for it but I still finished it, I really like the boneless ribs! This takeout place is very good for small town. Some of the dishes are better than others for example the steamed dumplings, wontons, Szechuan beef are superior dishes to general tsos, which is not good and mostly breading. I would stick with the more traditional dishes and you should be fine. Again the quality of the food is pretty good for a small town. The prices are a little bit more expensive but not as outrageous as I've seen in Ithaca. It's really nice to have the variety in food options in such a small town. read more

Placed an order and informed the gentleman that we had food allergies, specifically peanut/tree nut. He said the items ordered would be fine. I expressed concern for cross contamination and was reassured it would be ok. When our take out order was ready, the same gentleman informed me that they put "peanut butter" (maybe he meant peanut oil??) in the egg rolls, which was part of our order. He said "Sorry, I forgot. It's in the bag in a separate container." So his "forgetfulness" could have caused anaphylaxis and he's "sorry". I can't even speak to the quality of the food. If you have food allergies, DO NOT EAT HERE. They quite obviously have no idea how serious, and possibly deadly, they can be. read more

We drove here from Cortland for pick up. We got a sesame chicken, general tso, and fried pork dumplings. The two different chickens we were essentially exactly the same, but everything was delicious! Well worth the 15 minute drive! It was even hot still when we got it back home. read more

I have been going to them since the kids (now mature adults) were little squirts who were the best customer service reps even then. While I am transportationally challenged (no car currently), my visits to them have been significantly reduced since I retired. They still remember me as the "Dalmatian Lady" & what I always order. I know it's just Chinese food, but this place gets it right every time. I don't live in Dryden anymore, but when I want Chinese I will go out of my way to go here. Fast service. "10 minute" every time. You can also dine in, though the waiting service isn't really traditional so I'd recommend just doing take out. The food is always very hot and fresh when I get it, you can tell it was made to order and not just sitting out like the usual buffet style of most Chinese restaurants. read more

We have eating food from this establishment since the current owner's parents opened it. The food used to be wonderful but today the quality is poor and the chicken is mostly coating with little chicken inside. The son who currently owns the resturant is trying to increase profit by cheaping the food and the food quality has declined to terrible. After years of patronizing this establishment, we are no longer going to call for carryout, ending an almost weekly tradition. read more
