Scallops over spinach instead of pasta
    Julie D.

After an unsuccessful attempt at making a to-go order, we sort of forgot about this place. Then tonight we decided to give it a try. We took our friends along with us. The place is small (about 6-8 tables) and all the drinks (water, soda etc) are bottled. The owner, Gus, came out and told us he could make anything on the menu any way we wanted. Unusual. He was alone in the kitchen as Casey took over the front. There were one or two tables occupied and it was obvious they were doing a robust to-go business as well. I'm going to start by saying I'm so glad we weren't in a hurry. We'd have missed out on not only amazing food, but great conversation with Gus and Casey. We started with the Clams Oregonata. These are not the baked clams you normally know as Clams Oregonata. Call them whatever you like, they were amazing. At least 30 clams came in a rich yellow broth with minced clams all over the top. It was a meal in itself. We also ordered a thin crust pizza that everyone at the table enjoyed. I then got the Greek Isle salad, which consists of tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, Kalamata olives and a hunk of feta in this amazing dressing. Everyone at the table went crazy for this. I could eat it every day and said so. By then we were full but dinner was coming. We had a chicken cacciatore, the scallops over sautéed spinach instead of pasta, the chicken Venezianna, and I simply told Casey to tell Gus to make me something but I didn't want pasta or potato. Out came a pile of scallops and shrimp over sautéed broccoli. I wanted to cry because it was exactly what I had in mind. The scallops were tender and flavorful, as was the shrimp. Everyone loved their meal and we all took home boxes because the portions are huge. Then Gus brought out some baklava on the house. OMG. The best thing I've ever had. It was simply amazing. For what we got the bill was very inexpensive but the experience is one you cannot put a price on. We will be back.

This is my family's favorite place in the area! Tucked away in Freeville, you would never guess this place would have such a delicious and well sourced menu! NYC caliber food, but with a local feel--it is Freeville/Dryden's secret! From the outside you would never know. Highly recommend. Better than Ciao!!! They do delivery and take-out too. The starter bread is excellent. We love their Chicken Riggies, Basilikos Pasta, Veggie Special Pizza and HUGE Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies! Also BYOB!

My "buffalo chicken sandwich" with no buffalo sauce.

Buffalo chicken sandwich had no buffalo sauce on it. When I called to tell them he argued with me and yelled at me. Don't go here.

Yummy homemade baklava dessert, served warm a la mode! Divine!

Delicious pasta! Better than Thompson and Bleecker and perhaps my favorite restaurant in Ithaca!…read more We tried the eggplant roll appetizer which was warm and very cheesy. The anchovy salad was also good (I prefer the white anchovies which they used). The salad was also quite generous with the cheese. I enjoyed dipping the warm bread in the leftover eggplant cheese/sauce. For mains we tried the chicken, black spaghetti, and the pappardelle. I love mushrooms, so the pappardelle was my favorite. A rather simple buttery sauce which allowed the flavor of the mushrooms to really come through. Delicious! I don't usually like to re-order the same dish when returning to restaurants, but this was so good when I come back I will definitely be getting this again! Black spaghetti and chicken were also good- no complaints here. For dessert we tried the panna cotta which was a tiny bit on the runny side though I am just being picky. It was very tasty and not too sweet. The tiramisu was also good (on the boozier side). The desserts were rather small but the mains were all quite hefty portion sizes. Reservations were rather inconvenient to snag though definitely not too hard. Overall, I really enjoyed Gola Osteria and will have to return to try more of their pastas!

The layout and vibe were nearly identical to the other location: cozy, softly lit, and upscale. Deciding what to eat was the hardest part. I went with my gut and got their Lamb Ragu Pasta - rich, herby, and the pasta had this firm bite. My girlfriend had the Porchetta, which she found a bit too fatty, though she polished off the potatoes with zero hesitation. My friend ordered the Chicken Piccata. I tried it, nodded, and moved on - good, but not groundbreaking. We ended with an affogato (fancy words for vanilla ice cream drowned in espresso). Simple, classy, and somehow the star of the night. If nothing else, I'd come back just for that.

Super cozy restaurant with phenomenal food and service!…read more We ordered a few starters: the chicken liver crostini, beet salad, and mixed green salad--all of which were fantastic. The chicken saltimbocca and bucatini were delicious, but the star of the meal was the hanger steak. Not only juicy and tender, but so so flavorful! I don't order steak often, but I wouldn't hesitate to get it again. They also have a solid selection of cocktails and wine to pair with your meal. The staff are really friendly and helpful with menu suggestions and wine pairings. I believe it's run by a family, and it certainly provides the comfort and care of one. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner and will be back!

Mckelvey was my bartender/server. She was sweet and welcoming. She mixed a terrific Negroni! Backpedaling a bit. I arrived at 6 and by the time my cocktail was in front of me there was a wait. I was disappointed with the apps.. all fried..I'm sure delish but I wasn't in the mood. I had Utica beans and kale (had the hot pepper symbol but not at all spicy ) $16 with a side meatball $6 and sausage $6. Portions were generous and the atmosphere was lively. Everything arrived quickly. Same for my bar mates. I will go back and request extra extra cherry peppers.. Oh! And get the lemon marscapone cake... worth every calorie!! Mange!

When we arrived the place was packed, but sure enough, our table was waiting. First came water. Then our server Lydia came over to ask for our drink order. Because I was driving back home, I only wanted one craft beer for the evening. My wife was having wine. We each ordered the Caesar salad, which was half of a Romaine lettuce sliced lengthwise dressed with cheese and dressing. It was tasty, but a lot of food. I ordered the fra Diavlo seafood pasta with rigatoni. My wife had one of the specials, which looked a bit like beef on weck without the sesame seeds. Mine was good, but not all spicy like I was expecting. Hers was actually quite good. Both were loaded with garlic, which seems to be a staple of this place. Because it was a Friday evening and the place was packed, the noise level was quite high. This was especially true because behind me were two large tables of noisy diners. Once they left it was back to a more normal level. Our server Lydia was terrific. Overall staffing was quite good. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Well go back!
