I'm a carbaholic through and through. Even though I'm a vegan, one of my favorite things is and always has been a delicious hunk of break with a delicious hunk of meat, and Gorgers delivers. Any sub can be made with seitan which is loaded onto an amazing sub roll to the point that you really have to stretch your mouth to take a bite. The sub rolls are made fresh in house daily. They do no have vegan cheese, so I just ordered subs that did not include cheese because I hate paying full price when I've omitted ingredients. Well, this strategy worked perfectly because the chimichurri sub is probably the best one on the menu. Caution - it can be very oily sometimes, but it is delicious and bursting with fresh herby goodness. Second best is the Blue Fire, a spicy sweet mustardy sauce. The Sweet Thai chili is also tasty and features pineapple, but ordering three 12 inch subs is something we cannot do again. Oh, and the FRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of the best french fries we have every had. Have to get those fries. Ithaca is truly an awesome vegan destination and Gorgers is part of that. Ordering on-line is a cinch and you can choose "vegan" for any item. There is some sidewalk seating. Masks are required. I came up from NYC, and was in Ithaca seeing some friends. They recommended Gorgers. I was in there today @ around 12:30pm. Ordered the Bahn Mi medium. Not so much saracha, but a whole lotta Mayo. An hour in to my drive home I got very sick to my stomach w/violent bowel movements to say the least. Every 30-40mins I had to pull over to use the bathroom. This was not a fun ride home to NYC. I'm still reeling from it now. Something was clearly wrong on that sandwich today. Check your dates on your containers folks. Because I am very sick right now. Terrible customer service. Change the oil in your fryer at LEAST every other week to 10 days. When fried pickles come out limp and soft burnt on the outside the oil is SPENT. Hint: you have to SCRUB or use boil out to actually clean the fryer. 30 YEARS cheffing. I could smell that the oil was old when we walked in. Used to LOVE your veggie ban mi. But man. Your employees don't CARE. And that oil left a coating in my mouth I had to swish with straight peroxide to get out. read more

On a road trip and my fiancé had this pinned on the map for a stop. Loved the food, service was great, and ambiance was super relaxed. Gorgers features a really good variety of sandwiches and small treats (doughnuts!), and offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options, which was so nice to see. Their subs are so tasty and GIGANTIC. A large was about 14 inches long, and a small is half the size. Absolutely would recommend this stop! There's street parking right outside on State Street and we had no trouble finding a spot. I haven't been very impressed with my food experiences in Ithaca, but this was an exception. Gorgers has a large selection of sandwiches (tip: read them off the paper menu; the board is above the prep area is beautifully illustrated, but a touch hard to read). Our meal there included their banh mi sandwich, a chupacabra (sp?), a sweet thai chili chicken sandwich, and an order of bacon cheese fries. The sandwiches were all delicious. They come in 3 sizes: S, M, or L. Unless you are REALLY hungry, don't order the Large - the portions are generous. Even though none of us had had breakfast, our Medium size sandwiches were only half-eaten (they very kindly wrapped the remaining halves to go). The fries were tasty, but the bacon and cheese made it a bit hard to really taste the fries. I did SEE the freshly cut fries there ready to be fried, so I can tell you one thing for sure: they were homemade. Service is friendly, prompt, efficient, and skilled. They were very nice. One of our party, a resident of Ithaca, tells me that the staff there is not constantly changing, which ensures a high degree of consistency (often a problem in Ithaca). What an amazing late lunch experience!! From the customer service to the incredible food, Gorgers is hands down the best place in downtown Ithaca to grab a quick bite to eat. Unlike many of the other establishments around this area, Gorgers is so budget friendly!! We went at a pretty awkward time (3:30), and we had a dinner reservation at 6, so we decided to only try a few of the sides. The wings and the fried pickles were phenomenal! Literally everything was homemade from the pickles to the ranch and the blue cheese dips! Great and pretty convenient location. I am always thrilled when there are vegan options other than side of fries. The menu is fun and unique, we got a Modena sandwich and a vegan teriyaki w seitan sandwich. Service was super quick, felt like 10 mins from start to finish. The Modena was really yummy and the vegan one was great! I kinda wish it had more on it like some more veggies or something but the pineapple tasted really fresh and the sauce was great. I give this place a 4.5. But because it only allows whole stars, I went with 5. Too good to only give it a 4. I've only been once, just last night, but already want to visit again. I had the southwest chicken meal deal. The meal deal is a ~6" sub with fresh cut fries and a drink for $9.26. Had to have the apple topped cheesecake I saw in their cooler too. I came to visit my friend at Cornell and she told me Gorgers was a must visit while I was here. You can order for takeout or delivery and there's street parking available on State Street. They feature a variety of sandwiches and doughnuts, and have vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. I'll be candid, my bar was set a bit low for Ithaca, but Gorges succeeded my expectations. It's around $10 for a packed foot long sub. I ate half of it and was already full. I ordered the Chupacabra ($10.79) and the combination of chipotle ranch and chimichurri sauce on the pork was so flavorful. The highlight of it was definitely the bread though: it was so soft and fluffy but firm enough where it doesn't get soggy. Also, the waitress at Gorges was so sweet and she even gave my friend and I free doughnuts! TLDR: Gorges is a must visit if you're at Cornell! This place is tew good. I went there for the first time with a few friends on a whim before a basketball game, and all I can say is that I wish I had known about it sooner. I ordered the Chupacabra, which came with pulled pork, chimichurri, and chipotle ranch (plus some veggies). It was so scrumptious... i'm dying to go back again! Delicious local eatery. We're visiting the area to do outdoors activities and came upon it. We tried the Caribbean, pulled BBQ pork and Teriyaki. The medium sub was huge (9 in). I did eat it all but I could've done fine with a small (6 in). The Caribbean had a nice kick of spicy heat and nice subtle ginger flavor. Loved it with the purple cabbage and lettuce. I can't stop thinking about the sandwiches at Gorgers. If you're looking for a legit 12" sub packed w/ ingredients - Gorgers Subs is your place. We stopped by after two morning hikes, and while we were starvin', we were totally overwhelmed by the size of these sandwiches when they came out. Gorger's does not mess around. There's over 20 sandwiches to choose from on the menu + a few salads and sides. I settled on a modified Chicken Bacon Ranch and the gal behind the counter had no problemo swapping out ranch for caesar dressing. For just under $10 I got the softest hero roll everrrrrrr + tons of shredded chicken + a mountain of bacon + and all the crispy lettuce I could handle. It took so long for me to finish, and I was so full - but I couldn't let this sandwich go to waste. So so good. A couple other notes: Homemade lemonade and tea are $2.50, water bottles $1. The inside of this spot isn't anything fancy... we took our sandwiches to go and ate down the block at a table in the Ithaca Commons. read more

I initially came here because this place was highly rated on Yelp and I needed a quick lunch in between meetings. The portions are big, so I definitely didn't leave feeling hungry. So, let's start with the good. It's conveniently located around the corner from the Green St. bus stop, so if you're coming into town by bus, this is a convenient place to stop in for a bite before or after a long bus ride. The staff seemed friendly. There are a lot different sandwiches, salads, and soups to pick from. And, the portion size is big, which is great that they offer a lunch special (half sandwich and a small soup)- great in the sense if you don't want to overstuff yourself- all for about $10. I also thought the French Onion Soup was pretty good. Now, onto the bad. One of the sandwiches they're known for is the Bánh mì. For anyone who has eaten a traditional Bánh mì knows that it's made with a French baguette. The bread is what makes the Bánh Mi so good. But, they don't make it with a French baguette. Instead, they make it with the sub roll that they make all of their sandwiches with and that was the let-down. Something was off about the sandwich. I didn't get the crunch from biting into it. To be fair, the sandwich wasn't terrible. It was stuffed with lots of pulled pork, but the bread wasn't great and the sauce from the pulled pork made the already-soft sub bread soggy. Would the bread have still been soggy if it was a baguette? Maybe or maybe not as much. I may decide to drop by if I'm ever back in the area. I was excited after the ratings, but pretty disappointed overall. Just ok food, and disorganized service. I won't return. Food: We got Bahn Mi, Chupacabra, macaroni salad and panda wings. The wings were soggy and cold (see service below) and probably would have been good hot. My girlfriend tried one bite and quit. The Bahn Mi had fresh veggies that were tasty and had a good crunch, but the pork was very dry. It was worth eating, but not buying again. The Chupacabra was just that same dry pork, but covered in a sauce that didn't really cover up the lack of flavor. My girlfriend said it tasted like a three toothed desert rat. It wasn't worth eating. Service: They acted busy, but didn't seem to have that many folks getting food, just an average day at mist places. But here it was too much for them. As a result they couldn't take our order on the phone, and asked that we use their website. They were too busy for me to let them know I had arrived, too busy to give directions to a restroom, or to bring out our food on time (curbside delivery). A highlight of our trip to Ithaca. My Pork Ban-Mi was awesome, and am so glad I decided to go with the special (half of a sandwich, order of fries, and a bottle of water) since a whole sandwich would have forced me to go back and take a nap instead of continuing our touring. Last week it was a delightful key lime pie in a cup! After trying multiple options, all of which have been tasty, I'm now quite devoted to their Blue Fire!
