I attended the Gordon's Thanksgiving Day buffet. My reservation was for 5 people at 2:00. I had tried invain to add two seats at the table but was told quite rudely that that was impossible. So I made another reservation under another name for 2. I was told these two reservations would be in the same room so I thought great, we would still be having dinner together. But no, the rez for two was called at about 2:10 on the top floor but our rez did not get called till 2:40 and it was on the 2nd floor. To top off the irony, our table had 7 placesettings so our other two guests could have had dinner with us together. While we were waiting in the lobby to get called for our reservation, a family was trying to get an additional chair on their reservation for their 8 yesr old girl. The Mother was even saying she could have her in her lap. Not only wss the restaurant manager, Eric Rust, rude to this family about the policy regarding reservations but he went so far as to call security on them!! I could not believe it! These people were from put of town and just wanted a simple adjustment to the table. More irony, the room we were in had probably 12 or more empty tables that they could have seated that family. I will never recommend nor eat at the place again. Oh and the art work by Brian Obie on the 7th floor are the worst examples of paint on canvas that I have ever seen. No star for this review. Wait staff was wonderful. Food mediocre and restaurant management completely inept. Run by an officious, inappropriate asshole. read more

I'm truly between a two and three stars. I think overall the food isn't bad but it's way way way not great. What comes to mind is a crew that was at the end of a shift. Nobody checking temperature or quality of what was going out. We ordered the Salmon Benedict and Country fried steak off the Brunch menu. The hollandaise sauce on the Benedict had too much Gray Poupon mustard. We actually wondered if they ran out because so little of it was on top of the eggs. The smoked salmon had great smoked flavor. The Chicken Fried Steak was super chewy and wasn't seasoned. I'm not sure if they remembered to or knew they should have used a mallet on the meat to make it tender. We both had Potatoes O'BRIAN. Both were served room temperature to cold. No Onion, no Bell-pepper. One plate had two small diced Red-peppers. Very disappointing. Plus side: Emile the waitress, the hostess and the gal cleaning tables and making sure you had water were very nice. The atmosphere and decor was nice. Because we live in Eugene we know there are other places to go for a good breakfast. We wanted to try this place because we'd hoped to get something on par or better then what we've already tried. What a great surprise! We are probably the last of our friends to finally make it to the Gordon but boy are we glad we did. The food, the service, the ambience, all were perfect. It was a busy night, Fat Tuesday, but still everything was working smoothly. I had the arugula salad and chicken sliders, really good. The salad was filled with lots of treats and was much larger than I expected. My husband had the chicken entrée and ate every bite. Great wine list comfortable setting, a place we can't wait to go back to. read more

I have been here many times before I decided to make a review. The staff seems new every time I come in, but they seem friendly enough. I am giving only 1 star for multiple reasons. The food menu is small but has some decent options, my issue is the servers don't write your order down. This has caused an issue when I can't eat cheese. So I order no cheese, wait 20 minutes, only to receive a burger covered in melty cheese. After a have to send it back it always comes out rushed and doesn't even look as good as the mistake burger. This will be my last time ordering a rushed $18 burger. The kitchen is open and you can hear everything the staff says including the F bombs and dirty talk about the wild night they had before. The Gordon Tavern is for out of town people who don't care about food quality. I am surprised Brian Obie can eat this burger every day. read more

Pretty much on par with most of the reviews. Menu is dated, truffle fries from circa 2010 still nasty in 2024, baked brie and swiss fondue give me a break, where are the fried shishito peppers lol. On a more serious note the service was bad even sitting at the bar, our napkin had two long black hairs in it when we opened it, bartender didn't even apologize just switched it out like it was normal. I feel bad for people that stay in the hotel with those prices. read more

Super delicious food. We visited here on a busy night on Grad weekend class of 22 (go Ducks). They seated us promptly and our food did take a few extra min to come out however it was freshly made and hot. They were just packed. The servers were quick to refill drinks and clear dirty dishes. Parking is great even on a busy night. One suggestion. Please provide bread or some snack while waiting. The hangry group wished they had a slice Of sourdough for example. Happy to pay for it. Other than that which isn't a real complaint it's a great place and a wonderful addition to Eugene! read more

Found this restaurant by chance was looking for somewhere to eat after a long drive back from Seattle and we couldn't of been more satisfied and surprised. The tavern is inside the boutique hotel the Gordon which was very cool and it set of a River walk restaurant shopping area. Very cute with many different restaurants and shops Since the restaurant is part of hotel the lobby is very nice and chic, with many comfy places to wait for your table. With no reservations or staying at the hotel the wait was only 40 minutes and as I said the area had many derp comfy places to relax and be on your phone or people watch. The service starts in the front hostess was wonderful and accommodating considering our situation. Once we were seated our waitress was informative and friendly she gave us suggestions and answered all our questions. After the warm delicious bread was brought we ordered We started with the BAKED GORGONZOLA & BRIE which was delicious. For our main entree we had the SEARED SALMON and CHICKEN "COQ AU VIN" both were delicious but especially the "coq au vin" it's been a while since I've tried it and it was great. Our waitress recommend a wine from Oregon which we certainly enjoyed. For dessert we tried the crème brûlée made with espresso ( it was unbelievable) and hope to have it again sooner rather than later and the Berry cobbler. Our waitress was very attentive and checked with us frequently. The ambiance is very fun and hip. There were a lot of college students and young people, but also families celebrating birthdays, friends doing girls night out or showers. The bar looked busy and the bartenders engaging. Super nice place inside a hotel lobby. The facilitate offers valet parking, but also free 3 hour parking just across the street. Our server Brin was outstanding. A surprisingly poor experience tonight. The building has a great modern look. We walked up to two empty seats at the bar and asked if we could take them. The young man with the pony tail behind the bar said, "I don't know, I don't work here." He walked away and continued waiting tables in another section of the restaurant. We sat at the bar and ordered some food. I asked if I could make a substitution for the garlic rice, and the woman tending the bar asked, "what do you want?" I wanted to ask some other questions about the food but just didn't feel comfortable, so we ordered. The food was pretty good--the fried chicken was actually very good, the mashed potatoes were lukewarm but tasted good. The ahi was cooked to medium--not sure why you would cook a beautiful piece of ahi to barely pink. The bartender who was waiting on us never made an effort to engage, and waited until we were half finished with our meals before she came to ask how everything was. We felt somewhat invisible. This is a great building and the restaurant obviously has some things going for it. It's too bad that the servers and bartenders are so inattentive to customers. This place needs work. read more

The food and drinks were great! I got their burger which was surprisingly light and juicy even with two patties. The truffle fries were amazing as well as the calamari. The calamari was fried perfectly. Not chewy, but cooked through and with a delicious dipping sauce. We were able to get a table outside and it was nice to sit by flowers and breathe the fresh air while we ate. read more

My wife and I went to the Gordon twice last week to take friends from out of town. Unfortunately our experience from Friday to Saturday were very different. Friday night we had a group of 16 and everything was excellent! The service and the food were great. Unfortunately on Saturday the food was not nearly the same as the night before. The fried chicken was dry and over cooked. They played the coleslaw in between the chicken and whipped potatoes so it was hot. My wife loves the bucatini but again on Saturday her portion was a third less than the night before and very under sauced. Our sides were also bad. We had to send back green beans because they were so under cooked. Unless they can be consistent we won't be back. read more

Really disappointing. The New Years Eve Prix Fixe menu for $70 a head presented itself as a fun opportunity to begin a new year. The courses listed seemed promising and sounded like a diverse range of yum. overall, the food was "fine" not bad. The problem was the overall experience which was just...weird. our server was polite but the time between meals was excruciating. it took nearly 2 hours to get out of there. there were 5 tables surrounding us that were seated well after us...and were finished before we were given the main course. it was just my partner and i, and at a certain point we looked at each other and i said: are they NOT trying to flip tables or is it just us? i appreciate not being rushed, but wow. not one to internalize things, i must say it FELT almost intentional.. our server let us know she was keeping an eye out for our food which was helpful ...? its prix fixe and we did not order any alterations or substitutions. so....? early into the evening the music shut off accidentally which felt awkward and i inquired if they were going to turn it back on. eventually they did. the lights also turned off accidentally (?) for a brief moment, only to return to a supermarket level of brightness. if i am going to spend $180 on a new years eve meal...it would be nice to have had the level of service and ambiance easily found at any of the other restaurants around town. it was annoying to begin new years eve like this. i wont be returning as it left a sour taste in my mouth and a hole in my wallet not worth half the size. really bummed about this one. read more

Dined at Gordon Hotel last Sunday for 45th Wedding Anniversary. Tavern/restaurant on bottom floor where we ate had obvious staffing problems. While it appeared plenty of bus boys/girls were working that night plus three or four bartenders working, the waitress that took our order appeared to be only one for whole restaurant.. The only place I did not observe her enter was private-ish room. Otherwise whole main floor plus "outside" w/canapy covered tables. While the food wad good, not James Beard worthy, we were seated at approx. 1745 hrs & plastic was finally rung @ 1940 Hrs for a party of a whole two. Not even playing games on phone was taken as a hint. I find it hard to believe only positive comments for review. Managers must have been on mental day off. read more

The place was packed, our table, maybe the last was right next to a very slam bang dishwasher on the other side of a curtain. Directly overhead was a speaker at a volume barely audible but present enough to be irritating especially combined with the slam bang dishwasher. We waited quite a while for our order though the waitress was friendly and attentive. When my $38.00 rack of lamb, vegetable and mashed potatoes arrived I should have sent it back!. But I was a guest of a close friend so I did not. And this was supposed to be a special occasion. I the many years I've known her neither of us has very spent $38.00 on a dinner. She'd never send food back or return a purchase, and I knew she'd be upset. The rack of lamb -- eight ribs, was minuscule, but fatty. Via diligent knife work I was able to put together a "bite" from each rib. Not tasty, same for the potatoes, the squash/potato sort of vegetable was a gummy sort of thing. I could see any appealing quality, and did not eat it. The event was inexcusable bad. I'l never go back. Should have saved our $100.-- and gone to a taco bar. By the way on the way out I noticed many other guest had ordered the low price fish, and chips. Smart, sort of. read more

Table service very slow. Had to remind server about drinks not coming. Some excuse about printer problem. Beware- gratuity added on bill (party of 6) which is fine but was not mentioned when bill presented so almost paid gratuity twice. Dinner plates were never cleared. I have met friends there twice for drinks at the bar. Had the same miserable experience both times: bartenders ignore you and when they do help, they do it begrudgingly. Not even a napkin under your drink. Want a refill? Had to wait for that as well as they were too busy stocking the bar and never look up. Hostess and some staff looked/dressed and acted unprofessional and irritated. With the outward cache of a high end bar, it falls flat. I went there for the class but have been burned both times by staff who look miserable and act the same. read more

Was looking forward to our first date night in months and months, but I wish we'd made reservations elsewhere nearby. We wanted to try something new and the restaurant looks beautiful. The service was really bad --- warned of a dairy allergy which she wrote down, underlined, and we talked about--and she 5 minutes later brought out a sour cream sauce without even a mention. Wrong drink brought next. Promise of a lemon to sub for sour cream which finally came after the food was already consumed. Weirdly, the bus person complained about his job every time he came to fill our water. Lack of communication from the hostesses about being seated. When we got to our table, it was super close to tables on the left and right and everything we said was public knowledge. Everything might have been tolerable had the food been good: The food and drinks were mediocre and extremely small portions!! Like, unbelievably small and incredibly average taste for the price point. We had the salmon, shrimp pasta, and calamari, 4 cocktails. Salmon was a sliver of fish (it looked like maybe they were cutting their normal portion in half or quarter to ensure they had enough for the rest of the night???) and it had ONE fingerling potato cut in half!!! Shrimp and pasta was 5 shrimp with a very small portion of very dry pasta (menu said cream sauce with vegetables) that had one smalll shard of zucchini cut into quarters, and a quarter inch of a spear of asparagus. Like, what did I even eat? They were appropriately appetizer sized, not mains. Both those dishes came highly recommended by the waitress. She took at least 15 minutes to pick up our payment and process it, we just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible rather than linger for dessert and coffee as we'd planned. The menu choices seemed really generic hotel-bar-y, which I shouldn't be mad at I guess because it's what this place turns out to be. The Gordon Tavern was much better than I expected. It's not all bar food, rather we enjoyed a perfectly prepared steak (according to my husband), and perfectly prepared King Salmon. I'm always hesitant to order salmon when I go out to eat because it's so often comes to me over cooked. The salmon was perfectly seared. The restaurant was a festive and friendly atmosphere with excellent service. And the cocktails were also fantastic. Ours is not an easy group to please, but we were all very happy. The Old Fashioned did not disappoint and my friends also enjoyed their top notch drinks. Make a reservation though because the place was crowded on a Tuesday night. read more

I wanted to love this place but it was a total disappointment. The staff was nice and we were seated immediately even though we were early for our reservation. We didn't realize that our only option on a Sunday at 2:30 would be brunch. I'm not much of a breakfast person but the menu was so limited I had to choose the eggs and O'Brien potatoes. The eggs were so undercooked they were slimy. Not even close to over medium and the potatoes were cold. The other order was eggs Benedict. Same thing. Cold potatoes and the English muffin wasn't even toasted. No one asked why our meals were virtually untouched. After finishing our beverage we left and went to a different restaurant to celebrate my birthday and get good food with better service. Eugene needs a good restaurant. I was hoping this would be it. I've been away from Eugene for 6 years, so I was excited to try a new place. Six of us met for happy hour-dinner-drinks. We did have a 5pm reservation & we were seated immediately. We were offered menus. It took over 30 minutes to get someone to take drink orders & more than 30 minutes to get a drink. We ordered beer & wine, but it still took forever. And, they were out of Chardonnay! Then it took another "forever " to get someone to take our food order. Nothing was timed right. One couple received half their order, then another received a partial order & so on. The food was just ok. Very disappointing to say the least. I don't know how long these guys have been in n business, but if they can't do better than that....seems like someone spent a ton of money on this place but that somebody doesn't know jack about the food & beverage biz. read more

In general, I love the Gordon hotel, Tavern, and the food and especially the drinks there. But I was really disappointed yesterday when I had Thanksgiving dinner there. I don't eat meat, so I had the fish which was pretty boring, the stuffing was dry and the bread pudding was dry too. Last year it was great, we had waiters and the manager came around and made sure everybody was happy. This year it was like going into a regular buffet line everything's in a big tray and you don't know how long it's been since it's been cooked. I don't know but it was disappointing this year. Also, they could've used two bartenders. The one guy that was taking care of everyone was overwhelmed. He was a good bartender, but one person for that many people? read more

I am posting this on Yelp, since I have contacted the Gordon Hotel feedback site directly and no one has bothered to get back to me. Another disappointing mark from this establishment. I took my family here for Father's Day brunch. I made a reservation for 10:30. I checked in and we were seated 5 minutes later. We have never been here before and I was excited to try this place. My daughter wanted the bagel and lox, we were told that they were out of bagels, but could serve lox and a hunk of cream cheese, without offering a substitute for the bagel, but we would still get charged full price. Umm...if you can't offer a menu item without the full menu description, why are you selling it at all? So then my daughter, husband and son all ordered the "smoked salmon" Benedict, and I ordered the shrimp and crab omelette. We waited OVER AN HOUR for our food. Two tables that were seated AFTER us got their meals before us. Our server was no where to be found and I flagged someone else to ask how much longer we would have to wait for our meals. Now to the food that was served to us. First of all that is not "smoked salmon" in the Benedict- it's lox (huge difference). They should change the menu description. Secondly, ALL of the Benedict's were cold!!! My husband had me take a bite to see if I agreed about the food temperature. Thirdly, they brought me my omelette without the potatoes and told me that because we had waited so long for our food that they would bring me my potatoes in a few minutes. Finally, our server asks us how is everything? And I told her NOT WELL. I said all of these Benedict's are cold. She offered a redo on the meals, but after waiting an hour, who wants to wait longer?!! My kids were hungry. My son ate his, my daughter did not eat hers and my husband only ate half. I am super disappointed that we spent our morning for Father's Day here. This restaurant experience was to say the least...unimpressive. While I will say the service was okay, I do not know why our server never bothered to address how long our wait time was, and why I had to flag a different server down to check on our food. After much anticipation I have dined with friends at Gordon Tavern a few times and come away with a few thoughts- The space is inviting with perfect ambiance. The food is less than mediocre. I want so badly to love this place especially because Eugene needs better restaurants but it comes up short each time. It's time to sit down and reassess the menu and preparation- and get rid of the cheese plate as it exists now. Multiple friends have come away with the same thought. The one star is because the waitress was awesome. But the food was cold, flavorless and over priced. The sad thing is that this place will thrive because of visitors to the hotel not knowing any better. I will be telling all friends and family to stay far far far away. I took three out-of-town friends to a restaurant that was supposedly a great place to eat. We ordered three entrees...one of which was meant to be shared. First of all, they had "lost" our reservation. Our second disappointment was the horrible noise element; we almost had to raise our voices to be heard. But the biggest embarrassment for me was the food. A noodle dish had noodles that were undone. They were chewy/almost crispy. The fish and fries plate was piled high, with two modest pieces of fish and the rest was French fries. The shared pork chop was ordered to be medium....it came so overdone that it cracked when we attempted to slice it. I was so embarrassed. I don't know why their ratings are so high. We came for brunch on Father's Day, and our waitress was lovely. However, that was the only real positive of our experience. The food was sincerely just terrible. I ordered the classic breakfast, which was an incredibly small portion for $12. The sausage was, without a doubt, frozen and microwaved links - dry and wrinkly. My husband ordered eggs benedict, but his poached eggs were cooked all the way through with no runny yolk at all, and the hollandaise was overwhelmingly lemony and bitter. My father-in-law ordered bacon with his breakfast but received sausage, which the waitress gladly fixed, but the bacon that was brought was very floppy and undercooked. Don't come here if you have a gluten allergy or intolerance - the only thing I could get was an omelette or eggs and bacon/sausage, but I was told that even the o'brien potatoes were fried in the same oil as other items with gluten. A decent 1st time with foodie friends from Salem who have nothing to chose from up there. Choices were Salmon, Ahi Tuna and Chicken dinner. My wife's choice of French Onion soup was already "out" at 6 p.m. which was surprising. We also had cocktails there earlier before being seated at our table and the Friday crowd was encouraging with their near capacity and enthusiasm .. Nice for a change to see people out enjoying themselves. We were promptly seated for our reservation. We were given a glass of warm water and waited ten minutes for a server. Emily stopped by and let us know that she would be our server if we needed anything. (Why did she think we were there?) She asked to take our drink order and suggested we get right to ordering our meal. We were going to order an appetizer and enjoy our cocktails but that's obviously not something they're used to clientele doing. Side note, they don't carry coke products so if you want a Jack and coke or rum and coke you're out of luck. So, she got us to skip the appetizer and just order dinner. We had to ask if we could please order wine to drink with dinner. We were able to do so. Our meals, I had the six ounce filet with whipped potatoes with grilled carrots and squash. He had the pork chop with the same veggies. Served stone cold. We had to ask for a steak knife. The server said he already had a steak knife. No, my apologies, this is a butter knife. Approximately ten minutes later he was given an actual knife. There's a rather nasty black drape that covers the kitchen door. The loud clatter of dishes and silverware is a rare treat in a fine dining establishment. The feel of the tavern is that of an upscale diner. They did comp part of our meal but I would rather pay full price and have an excellent (or even good) experience. I suppose that I expected too much from them and I felt tremendously disappointed. Would I go back? Not to the Gordon Tavern. Perhaps the Speakeasy portion is nicer. read more
