I had been to Gorat's years and years ago, but recently returned for Father's Day with my dad, and he had the best time! In my past experiences, I think I had good food and service, but this was a great refresher on the Omaha classic that is Gorat's. It was bustling inside due to the holiday, as well as the CWS being in town at the same time (and everyone wants to come to Warren's favorite place). But that didn't hurt the experience at all. They luckily have a large parking lot so we found a spot immediately and headed in. We had made a reservation and were seated right when we got there. Our server was April and she was EXCELLENT. Very friendly and quick with refills and suggestions. The interior is classic steakouse style, with nice tables, dark walls, and black tablecloths. But the darker palette doesn't make it very dark in there (not like The Drover which is dangerously dark!) Food wise, we started with two starters. The Lobser Bites with drawn butter for dipping was AMAZING. And the Billion Dollar Deviled Eggs were awesome too, very fresh and not gigantically cut which can be an annoyance to me when that happens. Our entree came pretty fast behind the apps, and I had the picatta with salmon as the protein. I asked for extra sauce and they definitely delivered. It was swimming in it and I loved that! I had the broccolini with it and that was good with the sauce too. My husband and Dad (the man of the hour) both had the New York Strip, and they were HUGE, very thick and juicy. They both also got the Cowboy Butter with their steaks and yummm. I had to have a bite of my husband's and it just melted in your mouth. We were very full at this point, but it was a special occasion, so we made sure to grab a few (one for each of us). My dad got the Carrot Cake and was in heaven. He said he hadn't had that in so long and was really impressed. I had the tiramisu and it was large and very fluffy and tasty. And my husband got the Lithuanian torte and it was bomb! (He got one to take home too) The most important part, my Dad said he had never been treated so well or been to such a nice, quality, restaurant. He had a great time and that's the main reason for the visit so it was a success. For a special occasion or for out of town guests that you want to treat, I think Gorat's is perfect for that! read more

Ate here recently on a Friday night in the bar area and it was my first time. I very much enjoyed the live music entertainment as well as the food. You could come here and spend as little as you like and get good appetizers or as much as you like and get a good steak. I did both. The only thing I did not do was drink alcohol. Famous for being Warren Buffett's favorite steak house, Gorat's is a memorable experience and an excellent value! The ambiance is a throwback to an upper-middle class steakhouse that doesn't seem to exist anymore. The pictures on the wall provide a glimpse of the rich history of the place. And the retro neon sign on the outside of the place reminds you of the 1950's. The portions are HUGE, and you can probably split one steak and one appetizer between two people. The steak is tasty and tender, with a decent amount of seasoning. While I've had more flavorful steak in my life, I have never had this quality at this low price (and this large portion)! The servers are all extremely helpful, making recommendations and stopping by often. They also told us anecdotes about the Oracle of Omaha and his periodic visits. Well worth the visit. I went to Gorat's with a group of friends for NYE. We had reservations and were seated promptly. Our server. Ellen was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Service was top notch. Our table shared the calamari and the bruschetta. I'm not a big fan of the calamari but my friends enjoyed it. The bruschetta was perfect and provided large portions. I ordered the 8 oz filet and baked potato. The steak was cooked perfectly. The potato was large and well cooked. My husband got the chicken parmesan. The serving was enormous. I took my dear elderly neighbor out for dinner here Saturday after Tgiving. There were many other table celebrating a non- turkey dinner as well. Our waitstaff and front of house were delightful! This place has been around for something like 80 years and a well known spot in Omaha. I visited once many years ago and recently stopped in for lunch. On a recent Saturday we were 1 of two tables. Despite having great staff, a great bartender, and excellent parking, I can't recommend this business. The food was disappointing. The environment is also beautiful, too. I'd be errant if I failed to mention that. However, that steak was low quality. Properly and promptly prepared, sure. Proper respect due to the culinary staff. It's too bad the business hypes their meat quality on their menu and then serves me a steak that was clearly low quality. That's actually difficult to do in this state, particularly at the cost for that meal. I have been SO impressed with the steaks here until recently. I won't rant about how that has changed, as all who care already know this, for cost and, in this instance, quality. It was thin and fibrous, difficult to cut. Required a sawing motion to get through a white, gristle-like, and very strong. Impressively so. Very disappointing. Props also to their cake source. If they bake it themselves, then props to them. Was amazing. Our sever Ellen was great. The food was just want you want out of a steakhouse. I had the whiskey ribeye with the lobster Mac and cheese. Sorry no photo of that. I was so excited I forgot sorry. My husband got the salmon and he loved it. They put us in this little nook with just our table for two. Here is what i recommend as you page through: 1. Ignore Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting reviews. Why one could think they would be qualified to give a review of food or service when they're at a banquet escapes me. 2. Remember Coastal Elites, you are in Nebraska and they don't serve Cortados, La Croix, etc. Keep a open mind (Yes i am a Coastal Semi-elite so i can say that) 3. Gorat's does not need you. 4. I will admit, I tried to get a reservation at the Drover and could not which is why we ended up here! I ordered a whiskey marinaded ribeye for that reason. This was a bit sweeter than I expected it to be but, the meat was very tender and easy to cut. Next time, I would probably try the Filet. The decor is identical to a Wisconsin supper club (IYKYK). Service was friendly and FAST. From sit down to standup it was 40 minutes. Delicious food. Small side salad but homemade dressing. Great SNP cocktail. Had the 12oz whiskey ribeye. However. The steak was a very thin cut. Not a problem. Unless you favor the rare to medium rare and order it as the latter. So I have to start this off with I don't eat steak, so keep that in mind. I was here for a large group dinner and it was great for that we got our own separate room. The setup was a bit odd in that we were at a giant table, rather like they stuck a bunch of long tables together to make a huge rectangle, so no talking to people across the way, though maybe if you wanted to dance on the table it was a good platform? I had planned to order the salmon, but they were out, and we were there early, so that was a bit disappointing, other options were rather limited. I ended up with the canadian walleye, which was an ok not very flavorful white fish. So this may be great if you're a steak eater, but perhaps not so much if you're not. The service was also a bit lacking. I ordered an iced tea and had to actually grab one of the wait staff to get a refill and wasn't able to until near the end of the meal. A few people were asked about dessert but the whole party was not. So mixed experience at best. read more

Really good buffet for Easter brunch last Sunday and a great value for $40 per person. The buffet had a good selection of breakfast items, sides, salads, shrimp cocktail, etc., with ham and prime rib for the main meats. Service was good as well. The only negative was that they were incredibly busy and sometimes the buffet line was long, but it usually went quick and food was being refilled constantly. Gorat is an Omaha's local gem and Warren Buffet's favorite restaurant. The experience I had here was lacking and unpleasant. During the Berkshire meeting weekend, it is extremely busy so definitely make a reservation in advance. They made everything on theme with the Berkshire meeting, from the menu to the T-shirt. Foods here are delicious. We got T-bone, Whiskey Ribeye, and onion rings. Both steaks got beautiful sear on them and they were moist. We got a rare T-bone and medium rare ribeye. However, they were not cooked correctly when it brought out... it just went downhill from here We spoke with one of the server about the steaks and if we can get our meat to cook just how we wanted it. No apology, she said "Oh you know, it was a different cut of meat, so..." Never heard that excuse before and I do not think that level of doneness is based on the cut of meat. When our sever came over, we explained the situation. She rolled her eyes at us and still no apology. It was such an unpleasant experience that I would not recommend this place. Foods are delicious, service is just awful. Maybe just do take our for your foods. Maybe Warren Buffett got a great experience because he is Warren Buffett and that's why he recommended to all the shareholders. Gorats is more of a 3.5 than a solid 3 because of the service. The waitress was always checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed since we sat in a small two-seater room that's sorta of isolated from the rest of the dining room. I got the prime rib and it was just okay. Most of it was chewy which was not good. However, the onion rings we got on the side are a knockout. It was the best thing we got there. Our last day in Omaha Nebraska we had dinner at Gorat's Steakhouse. It's an older steakhouse well known for their steaks. Warren Buffett also dines at the steakhouse. We made reservations for an early dinner and we were promptly seated. Tablesettings was simple, but clean with a black tablecloth and brightly colored paintings of cows and chickens on the wall. For dinner, we had the filet mignon with a baked potato, whiskey ribeye steak with a baked potato, and chicken Parmesan. For dessert we had the crème brûlée and the Lithuanian bakery Napoleon torte. My husband enjoyed the whiskey ribeye steak, which was cooked to his specifications and very tasty. My fillet mignon I will admit was over cooked as I typically order it medium, but it came to me well done which it was a bit of a disappointment, but still very tender and tasty. My daughter ordered the chicken Parmesan which she said was OK, but was in quite a bit of oil. That's why you always order steaks in a steak restaurant! For dessert, the crème brûlée was delicious and came with a raspberry coulis, which was literally one small dot of raspberry coulis. A little skimpy on the raspberry coulis. My husband ordered the Lithuanian bakery Napoleon tort, which apparently he's had before, and always enjoyed, to me it was just average. Our waitress was very friendly, and we had fast service. In summary -our entire experience was extremely strange. The place was almost empty. Server was not at all welcoming or friendly. Only a few other customers were there so she certainly couldn't have been stressed with too many customers. We arrived at 2 pm ( for our reservation) to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday . We wanted steak (go figure - at a steak house!!). The server advised she'd need to get the "okay" from the chef to serve steak. (WTH?). Strange, again. Hooray! We ordered a ribeye and a T-bone. Also ordered asparagus and truffle fries. (Neither was provided and no explanation was provided. Strange. Yet again. Took 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Strange again. Ordered tiramisu which was a brownish-ish looking ick thing - (3 very thick layers) bottom layer was heavy & wet. We each had a couple of bites. Strange, again! The hash brown potatoes & ice water were very tasty. Hooray!! Will we return? Nope. Never. Not at their prices & crappy service. Nope. Warren Buffet's place? Again, strange. One & Done. Especially at their prices Wish we'd gone to our fav spot instead - The Drover, where the service & food are always spot on. The Drover. Delicious! This is not the Gorat's from years back. The updated menu is great... lots of selection. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large. But most importantly, the food is fantastic. I will have to agree with some of the other 3 star reviews. This place is overrated. I went despite some of the poor reviews, expecting my experience to be different. I ordered the 8 oz filet, Pittsburgh style with a baked potato. Grilled onions and mushrooms. Instead of being seared it was burnt. The onions were mushy, mushrooms were warm, the potato was not cooked all the way through. Sad. On the good side the onion rings were great. The creme brulet was fantastic. We were celebrating our anniversary so we splurged and ordered the fillet mignon. Cooked perfectly (and one of the few places i have been to that didn't complain when i wanted it medium well!). We also got the bourbon (?) caramel bread pudding for dessert. It was fantastic! We were from out of town - and needed an uber back to our hotel. After two Lyft drivers dropped us, "Lisa" who works there, drove us back- first giving us a driving tour pointing out president Ford's birthplace, Buffet's home, and the Joslyn castle and art museum.
