Don't ask me how to pronounce it. No one seems to know. There is something about Spezia that is so welcoming. No wonder it's always packed. Friendly service, comfy setting, and oh yeah - the food! Unfortunately for me, there is too much seafood on the menu but there's always something. People rave about the seafood dishes so I'll trust them and say it must be good. I'm just not into it. On this visit, we each ordered a cocktail. I decided to try the lemon martini which I never order and OH MY GOODNESS. It was awesome! They nailed it. The limoncello brought it home. My dining partner had a dirty martini and was satisfied as well. We enjoyed a Spezia salad which featured mixed greens, prosciutto, tomato, Kalamata olives, and a house vinaigrette. It all combined so well. The lettuce was wonderfully fresh, no need to pick out rotting leaves like some places. The dressing was simply light and delish. We shared a plate of spaghetti. You get several options to add to it. The grilled spicy Italian sausage sounded good. I'm not sure which was better. The sausage or the marinara sauce. Both were soooooo good!! The sausage was truly grilled and spicy and just amazing, and it was not greasy either. The marinara sauce challenged my own that I make at home. We devoured that plate of spaghetti which was big enough to share. I forgot to take a picture as it was served so I am sharing a tight shot of half the order after we divided it. read more

Spezia, you let me down! Our waiter struggled to keep up with the dinner rush. We arrived for our reservation and were seated at 6:40 where we weren't greeted by our waiter for quite awhile. It took a long time to get our drinks and I had to ask for bread so we decided to skip appetizers and go straight to our entree. When ordering the entree our waiter said "and which salad would you like?" And then listed the salad options. Normally when ordering a main and the waiter says which salad do you want that's because the salad comes with the meal. Nope. We were charged $11 per salad that we didn't even really want. The salads were your average side salad, but thankfully had good dressings. We hadn't brought up salads, the waiter did when we ordered our entree. So we were disappointed to have $20+ in salads that we didn't request until the waiter offered them. Our salads were finished for at least 15 minutes before our main entree came out at about 7:30, nearly an hour after we had been seated. My shrimp scampi was good, the broccolini was a touch under cooked but the flavors were still good, and the shrimp was surprisingly large in size and cooked exactly how it should be. Had we been served quicker and not offered things that didn't come with our meal when ordering our meal we may have been happier, hard to say. The table next to us was sat about 10 minute after us and had a different waitress. They received their entire meal (including bread & apps) and left before we were offered dessert. The food is good, I won't discredit that at all. But when coming to a restaurant like this you are expecting a level of service that we just didn't get. I'm sure we'll try again in the future and if service is better I will definitely update my review but for now, this was a let down of a birthday dinner. read more

This is one of our favorite Italian spots and definitely my favorite place for pasta. There is plenty of parking right on site, and reservations are super easy to make online. It can get pretty busy, so I definitely recommend making one ahead of time. The ambiance is quiet and really nice, and the restaurant is much larger inside than I expected, which makes it feel comfortable without feeling crowded. The happy hour menu is such a great deal. $6 Old Fashioneds is almost unheard of, and they are perfectly made for my taste every time. My favorite pasta is similar to a Cajun cream sauce, with the perfect balance of flavors and they definitely do not skimp on the chicken. My kids love the complimentary bread and always order the salmon pasta. I am usually too full for dessert, but this time we shared the chocolate raspberry cheesecake and it was so good it disappeared before I could even get a picture. Food was very good. Served was incredible. Unfortunately I don't think I would return. The manager came tomoye table and said we needed to vacate our table (not asked) and move to the bar so that another reservation could have our table. There were multiple tables finished eating and we haven't even been offered our checks yet. We got there at 5pm on a Tuesday. I've never had a manager tell us to move to the bar ever. My mother-in-law ordered the rainbow trout special. I would normally never order trout as I always think it's a fishy fish, but it looked absolutely delicious and got me rethinking how I feel about trout. My brother told us about this restaurant that's known for their top tier service and amazing flavorful dishes. Decor gives date night vibe, but casual as a single person or with family. Spezia was next to my hotel. I tried it out on Friday night and it was an intimate hidden gem in my opinion. Stephen was my waiter on Friday night, he was great. I went back Saturday day night and didn't have a reservation yet they still seated me. The hosts at the front desk are the definition of hospitality. My waiter was Jackson and he helped me decide on my dish. Everyone here is very welcoming & accommodating. Lastly, there was a manager who walked over to me and asked how was my meal, that's something that is not done often enough, I really appreciated that, she was really nice as well. Good food, solid service, and ok atmosphere. All averages out to 4 stars. Happy Hour is 4-6 PM and is available at the tables and not just the bar! That was actually a really exciting thing to discover. The Happy Hour menu also has different appetizers from the regular menu - including the fried ravioli, which was quite good. There's also a Seasonal Menu. Don't skip that. It's a nice offering of options - including a strawberry salad and shrimp pasta dish that were both very good. Reservations are pretty much a must. It definitely gets crowded and packed. And note that when busy, your reservation is only for two hours. We were actually told that the next reservation was waiting and we needed to leave. (This was done very politely and we were done except for two of us finishing our glasses of wine. So no biggie on that.) The ambiance was a little meh to me. It's a nice place - like, clean floors and all that - but just nothing noteworthy or special. (Which is not to say that it needs that.) It's just monochromatic wood and on the dark side. (Like, I cannot believe I'm saying this - maybe I'm just getting old - but with our 4:30 PM reservation, it was so dim and dark that I struggled to read the menu.) The entree I had was the petite filet and mushroom ravioli. Mmmm! The steak was perfectly cooked and loved the char on the outside. The mushroom ravioli were also cooked well and had a nice creamy mushroom sauce on top. I figured this was a good option for getting to try both a steak and a pasta. The menu is has many great sounding options, so settling on one entree was quite difficult. I look forward to returning and trying out some other menu items. My dad, of course, love his lamb dish. And the teens cleaned their plates of cheese ravioli and chicken parm. Our server was great. Our water glasses were always topped off. And our server easily handled all the specialization requests from my mom and aunt (like, "but without the spices and the cheese"). Our one down point was ordering a bottle of wine when we ordered our entrees and asking for it to be brought with the entrees. We were 75% done with our meals before our server arrived with the bottle (and two glasses, but there were four adults). Hence why we were still sitting there drinking the wine when told about them needing our table for the next reservation (had the delay not happened, our glasses of wine would've been gone along with our entrees). I, literally, took a break from eating my entree just so I'd still have some left when the wine arrived. Aside from that, our server was extremely nice. All in all, a nice birthday meal was enjoyed here. Our total was quite large. But we were a group of six that had appetizers, salads, entrees, desserts, cocktails, and a bottle of wine. So really, the prices were quite reasonable and even on the lower end. Will definitely return. read more

We were impressed with the quality of food here even after so many years and being so busy! We came during happy hour and took advantage of the appetizer and drink specials. My MIL and I had the limoncello collins, husband had the old fashioned and a glass of Pinot noir, and FIL had a Peroni. It was a varied and (for happy hour) extensive drink list to choose from. There were several apps on the happy hour menu too, we opted for the fried calamari. It was fresh and I liked the peppers they added to it. I ordered the airline chicken with mashed potatoes and sautéed veg. It was so good! The chicken was cooked perfectly and the skin was crispy on top. The potatoes were soft and velvety, and the veg were all cooked so well. Everyone really enjoyed what they ordered! We ended with an espresso for me, coffee for my FIL, and all split a huge piece of their signature tiramisu. It was plenty for all of us! The only drawback was the service was rather slow, and we had to rush through the dessert to get to our show in time. She forgot my FIL's coffee at the end, too. I came with my folks while they were in town. This was a last-minute decision, but I was glad I was able to get a same-day reservation as it was PACKED. They got the steak, which they enjoyed. I got the hunter's duckling, which was made VERY well done, so it was on the drier side, but some extra marmalade helped to provide some moisture. I was disappointed with that meal, unfortunately. Spezia took our table for 4 - and I'm guessing gave us the table that we had originally booked for 6. The food was excellent, the pasta dishes were are very well made and tasty. The service was attentive but not overbearingly so. We booked a late table (8:15 pm) and were one of the last tables occupied. Spezias has been one of my family's favorites for as long as I can remember. They have superb service, delicious Italian food, and a refined aesthetic. One of our favorites is the Gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce. The gnocchi is soft on the inside with a light pan fry that elevates the texture. Paired with a gorgonzola sauce to add some bite, and a fresh basil, it's become a dish I crave regularly! It used to be listed as an appetizer, and while it currently is only available as an entree, if you request - they will make the smaller portion! For Entree's, my parents swear by the French Acadian Linguine. Annually, they order it as a special treat and the portion is so large that they typically have some left over! The spices have a tuscan kick, but without being spicy in the way a jalapeño would be, also toned down by the cream. My brother tried a flatbread and was shocked by the portion and flavor! It seems to be made in a wood - burning stove and was the size of a large charcuterie board. Typically, I am loyal to a fault to the Cheese Ravioli, because I absolutely LOVE it. Yet, I tried the eggplant parmasan, and requested that the pasta on the side be upgraded to ravioli, which they do for $4 upcharge. This is definitely worth it as they give you four ravioli! The eggplant parmesan is the best I have ever had in Omaha as it is not soggy, has a crispy and flavorful outside, and is thick cuts of eggplant. Even the meat eaters at the table tried it and enjoyed! While the prices are higher than some other locations in Omaha, the portions definitely help making up for it as everyone had leftovers to take home. Service is consistent, helpful, and personable! If I were reviewing the food alone, this would easily be a 5-star experience. Everything we ordered was excellent. Unfortunately, the service significantly detracted from what should have been a really enjoyable lunch. My coworkers and I were there for a "fancy" lunch outing and planned to splurge a little--steaks all around, etc.--so we were hoping for an experience that matched the quality of the food. I'm not typically someone who goes out of my way to leave a negative review, but our server (Mike? or Matt?) had a very off-putting demeanor. One moment he was overly expressive and phony, and the next he seemed irritated by our presence. It felt very much like a Jekyll and Hyde experience. We were not a demanding table and didn't ask for constant extras, yet the attitude made it seem as though even basic parts of service--like delivering our meals--were a burden. For a restaurant serving such excellent food, the level of hospitality simply didn't match. I hope this was just an off day, because the kitchen is clearly doing an outstanding job. The service was good and the food came out fairly quick after the orders were out in. I really like the rolls that they brought out for the table before our meals came out.
