Brussel sprouts appetizer

Stopped in here after our lengthy road trip to Monterey. This restaurant is within walking distance of the Embassy Suites Seaside hotel. Very quaint restaurant. It was a Sunday so it was kinda slow. Atmosphere was very quaint and quiet. Ordered the Brussel sprouts appetizer which was flavored well but under cooked as the Brussels were on the crunchy side. The bread and oil dip mixture was rather unique and contained a very favorable oil mix. A great appetizer while our main dish was cooking our main dish was excellent. Can't remember the name but it's a take on a Danish dish. A sort of meatballs smothered in gravy with mashed potatoes and a side of pickled cabbage. Not something you see every day, but was excellent. This was one of the few choices we found around Seaside and was close to the hotel. I'd eat here again as there were many other dishes on the menu.

Beignets - Basket of 3
Anny L.

Stopped by for brunch at 10:30 am on a Sunday and there was no wait for a table of 4. Shortly after we were seated, we were asked what we wanted to drink. We asked for water since we hadn't looked at the menu yet and the waiter took away the drink menu...weird to us and discouraged from ordering any other beverage. We ordered the beignets to share, which were nothing special but the blueberry jam it came with was good. Also tried the cosmic burrito (on the drier side and desperately needed salsa) and the shrimp Benedict (shrimp were plump). Place is clean and service is too fast. Ok place to stop by for brunch.

Well we are back in seaside and went to are very spot. Again food fantastic! Are server Alfredo was on top of things. Got there around 6pm nice crowd great music. Met a very nice family with kids who also made our night. The decor is always a treat to look at. See you soon from Atwater, ca

I wish there were half STARS because I would give them a *3.5 " Found this place on Yelp and decided to try. (I go to YELP for all things. ) I ordered the huevos rancheros, with their tostada on the side-- they tend to be soggy by the time it gets to the table otherwise. Meat was extra $. I got it standard without meat, eggs over medium. The sauce and fixings (sour cream, avocado, cheese) was delish!! Happy with my choice and would come back again for this-- haven't found too many restaurants with making this a delish dish. Husband ordered the chicken & waffles. I didn't like that they charged extra for the gravy and extra for bone in. Makes for an immediate discount in satisfaction. This dish was decent and not delish because there's something about chicken "nuggets" that don't do C&W justice. One positive is that they are pet friendly!! Service was good and attentive. Though we were only 1 of 2 tables there--it was pretty early in the day. I think they just opened. (We were headed to the beach. ) (See Pics)

Googie Grill consistently serves delicious food in an adorable, retro setting. Our server today was Gladys, who was friendly, professional and efficient! We were a party of 5 and she took care of us flawlessly. We ordered the beignets, they were delicious! I enjoyed their chilaquiles, which were perfectly prepared. Mr. Wonderful ordered the crab-cake Benedict and cleaned his plate. Googie Grill is a spot we will continue to visit when we're visiting the peninsula.

$20 bacon cheeseburger: pretty darn good, and sizeable too. Good enough to thoroughly scratch that classic restaurant burger itch. That said, Monterey Peninsula has a number of spots that can do the same making for stiff competition.

This place is amazing! The food is really good with a lot of different options from meat loaf, steaks, pork chops to seafood and more! There is something for everyone. The place itself is a bit of a mystery lol. I felt I was in Fromville not because there were monsters but the decor was a little all over the place. But food was really good and they had Seaside Pilsner on tap too. I saved the service for last because you always save the best for last! Every team member was super nice and attentive. Our drinks, order, food and check ins were all super friendly. They heard it was my birthday from our conversation and without asking they brought me Flan with whip cream, strawberries and candles. Food and service was so awesome we came back for breakfast the very next day!

We finally got to eat here the other day, was out with my daughter & we each order our food & then split it with each other, blueberry pancakes, burger & sweet potato fries, coffee & water, the coffee was excellent, the food was very tasty, everything was cooked to perfection, lots of things on the menu, we'll be back

We have always enjoyed Googies being locals The Googie omelette is really good and their eggs Benedict is my go to but today my mom and I went for a late lunch and she enjoyed her BLT with avocado and I've always liked their cheeseburgers there. They're very good very flavorful. Our service was great and it was a very busy when we went. I definitely recommend it was also very clean. They always have a very clean restroom. I wanted to give them a 4 1/2 star, but I don't know how to do the half.

Clockwise (L to R): salmon, halibut, calamari, seafood linguine
Amanda E.

My fiancé found this place during a walk and suggested we stop in for dinner. Anytime he sees halibut on the menu, that's an instant win for him. He saw a review that said Googie had the best fish, so it needed to be seen to. We brought the family here for a birthday dinner and were blown away at the portion sizes, which were worth the price. My fiancé ordered the halibut, dad got the calamari, mom got the seafood linguine, and I got the salmon. All the seafood was cooked to perfection, and I personally appreciated that the vegetables were cooked just right. Neither crunchy nor mushy. Servers were very attentive and friendly, and the ambience was very calm. We were perfectly content with dinner and made a note to come ready for dessert next time. As we were about to pay the bill, someone at the table mentioned a birthday, and our server insisted we sit a while and proceeded to take back the bill before we could get our card down. He came back with a crème brûlée with the service team by his side, and the dining room proceeded to sing Happy Birthday, which was a nice way to cap off the evening! This is definitely a spot we'll be saving for our next adventure down in Seaside.

The best ftesh seafood had the fresh caught halbut .. And my wife grill salmon .. The flavors were just amazing.. They top any other restaurant that serves a fish dinner . The service team is just great. . The manager agrees you at the door, like a family member an yiur preference of where you like to sit. He make sure you have the best meal and serves it right of the grill. He rembers everything you likd.', the red wine and tel you about the local coast wines. Ask the Community - Googie Grill

I think it's been a couple years since I asked but just wondering would love to come but wondering if you now have gluten-free pancakes or gluten-free waffles?

Do they offer gluten-free pancakes or gluten-free waffles for breakfast?

Unfortunately not at this time… we do offer gluten free bread that we can use to make French toast…

Do they have outdoor seating so I can bring my dog?

They have outdoor seating and I think it's ok to bring your dog but to be sure, do call and ask. I know at least one restaurant with outdoor seating that don't allow dogs.

Does Googie Grill have a Wait List policy?

Yes, they allow your dog and even have a menu for it. The waitress served my dog with water at the same time she brought the drinks. There are outdoor heaters if it's chilly.

We started with small plates. The beef tartare of knights valley wagyu was served on a bone with marrow, with shaved horseradish and cured yolk egg that was so airy and felt like a special light cheese but with above flavors. might have been our favorite. the generous portion and BBQd bread was so perfect the milk bread - you know this is a must when you see them being served. I recommend eating them with the olive oil, but at least saving a few of them to dip in later courses (if you get the Delmonico steak or pork chop). little gem salad - they treated us this one, and it was one of our favorites. bacon, cherry tomato, buttermilk and parmesan don't do it justice for how fresh every component was. it reset the palate but also stood on its own beet salad - beautifully prepared and presented, the smoked beets were a nice connection to the rest of the smoked items on the menu but veg baked oysters - 2 kasha's, guanciale, creamed leaks; no need to say anything else other than adding a caviar supplement for any of the seafood. the mussels also looked divine and generous we, just didn't have enough people power to eat all the menu on our first try --- now the mains the Royale with Cheese - you know a Pulp Fiction reference is going to be awesome. this burger was so cheese, so delicious, and I literally 4 days later can still imagine how good this was. cooked perfectly, with the right ratios of meat and cheese. the frites were also perfectly cooked. Delmonico - 30 oz of knights valley wagyu, jus, little gems on a 45 minute fire; worth everything that it is. cooked perfect, with so much flavor. it's a lot of food, but we took it home with us and made minis teak sandwiches with some of the milk bread. chocolate mousse----one of the best I've ever had with a delicious whip cream the drinks were also amazing: smoky Paloma, magarita, but the top shelf clarified margarita was worth revisiting at least a few times. Lastly, the crew is just awesome. their vibe from chefs to waitstaff. we brought our 2 month old baby for our 4 year wedding anniversary. we will come back without baby, but they treated us like humans instead of us feeling embarrassed when baby needed to take a break. one of the best dinners I've had, and I've had a few.

Honestly, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in a while…read more My biggest issue with Maligne is that it feels like a restaurant trying really hard to be cool without having a clear identity. The entire experience felt soulless and lacking in authenticity. The food was inconsistent, the atmosphere was uncomfortable, and nothing really came together in a cohesive way. Atmosphere & Service: When we first arrived, we were seated in a back corner, right next to the heat of the open kitchen, with a speaker practically behind my ear. The music was so loud that I couldn't hear my husband sitting less than a foot away from me. I asked whether they could turn the music down or move us. Our server said he would lower the volume, which he did for about ten seconds before it was blasted again. I was genuinely confused. Eventually, we had to ask to be moved because the original seating was unbearable. The location itself also wasn't particularly appealing to me, and parking was more difficult than expected. The Food: The biggest problem was the lack of consistency. Almost everything we ordered was either excessively salty or noticeably underseasoned. * Milk bread: Nothing special. It was on the dry side and needed more seasoning. * Beet salad: The best way I can describe this dish is bleach in salad form. The smokiness gave it an almost meaty flavor, which was interesting, but the sauce was overpowering and the texture was unpleasant. I appreciated the creativity, but I didn't enjoy eating it. * Branzino: The distribution of bones was surprisingly inconsistent. Some sections had tons of bones while others had none, making it confusing and frustrating for my husband to eat. I personally didn't mind it as much, but it was worth mentioning. * Steak frites: Probably one of the better dishes, but the steak was overwhelmingly salty, and the fries were mediocre. Another small thing: no ice was offered with our water. I understand some restaurants prefer serving water without ice, but I would have appreciated being asked. Overall: I really wanted to like this place. I appreciate restaurants that take creative risks and try to do something different, but creativity needs to be backed by thoughtful execution. Maligne felt more concerned with cultivating a certain aesthetic than delivering a genuinely enjoyable dining experience. There were interesting ideas here, but very little cohesion, consistency, or warmth. I left disappointed and would not recommend it.

The Experience & Service: There was some noticeable confusion when our meals were served. A food runner brought out my husband's plate first, then turned to me and asked if I had ordered anything. When I told her I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict, she asked if our server had mentioned they were out of it and if I had picked a replacement. He hadn't told me anything of the sort. A few minutes later, our server came by to reassure me my food would be out shortly, bringing a small bowl of fruit to tide me over. My plate did eventually arrive, but the miscommunication up front was a bit awkward. The Food: Crab Cake Benedict: Unfortunately, the dish was just okay. The crab cake itself tasted like a pre-breaded, frozen patty rather than freshly made. Smothered under the poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, it was fine, but nothing special. Omelet & Home Fries: My husband really enjoyed his omelet. However, his side of home fries was a letdown--they weren't cooked through properly and had an off-taste of old fryer oil. Final Verdict: The staff is nice and trying hard during a busy rush, but given the service hiccups and average food execution, I'm not sure we would return if we're in the area again.

The hosts and servers were also wonderful throughout the evening--friendly, attentive, and professional. Unfortunately, the experience took a turn when our steak arrived. It was ordered medium but came out closer to medium-well/well and tasted noticeably burnt. My husband has never sent a steak back before and was actually very hesitant to say anything. Our server was incredibly kind about it, immediately took the steak back, and made us feel completely comfortable bringing it up. Unfortunately, that's when the experience became really uncomfortable. The manager personally brought the steak back out to our table, essentially to show us the steak and explain that, in his opinion, it was medium. We were then asked what we wanted to do. Rather than feeling like our concern was being heard, it felt like we were being challenged for sending back a steak that we simply felt was overcooked. Our entire table became uncomfortable, and there were definitely some awkward looks from surrounding tables. What made it even more frustrating was that, on our walk to the bathroom, we noticed another table had also sent food back. So it was especially uncomfortable to feel as though our table was being treated like we had done something unreasonable by asking for our steak to be cooked to the temperature we ordered. They eventually brought out another steak, but it was well-done on one side and medium-rare on the other. By that point, our table was ready to leave, and the whole situation had put a pretty significant damper on what was supposed to be a fun night with a large group. Afterward, we also noticed that we had been charged for an extra wine glass during happy hour. It was only $5, so we decided it wasn't worth bringing up after an already uncomfortable interaction with management, but unfortunately, it added to the overall impression. We do want to emphasize that the restaurant itself is beautiful, and Tori, our server, and the hosts were genuinely kind and professional. The staff who actually served us did their best to make the evening enjoyable. Unfortunately, the way the steak situation was handled by management turned what should have been a simple issue into a very unpleasant and awkward experience for our entire table. For that reason, despite the positives, we probably won't be returning.
