The $23 Mason Jar. An impulsive purchase.
Andrew D.

Three stars. Period. While I commemorate the owner for gaining traction amidst the blooming NYC cookie scene , I can't say Gooey on The Inside stands out from the lot. That noted, I give them credit for presentation and creativity. From croissant-cookie-ice cream sandwiches, molten cookie mason jars, to the four-ounce, thick cookies, you're definitely being enticed to splurge...perhaps that's where the allure here ends... These cookies do not feel like a sugary splurge; if anything, my palette felt underwhelmed. What is suppose to be a "gooey on the inside" experience is really just an undercooked cookie that, somehow, is simultaneously grainy. Additionally, no ingredient particularly stands out from the chocolate chips to the cookie dough. Some other draw backs. No coffee. I am one of those people who swears by coffee and dessert, and a good cup of Joe might have actually improved my tasting experience here (ironically, there are coffee mugs for sale on the counter). Also, the pricing is a bit steep; I get that they're competing with the NYC staple Levain and Funny Face Bakery a few blocks down, but come on...$8 for a cookie is a bit exaggerated, especially for one that doesn't really deliver a bang for the buck. The service is a hit-or-miss. No one counter person is particularly welcoming but they're not rude, either. A lukewarm experience through and through.

A colleague mentioned this place when describing that it's located in a basement. It's a takeaway place--probably could fit three people max. I knew I wanted to try the chocolate chip because...well...it's a place that sells cookies. I had to try the chocolate chip cookies. I asked the employee what other cookies did he suggest. He mentioned a few and I decided to try the birthday cake cookie. They were $8 each so it was kind of a splurge but they were very good. The employee said that I could put it in the oven at 350 degrees for less than 10 minutes. I popped them in the air fryer for 2 minutes. I would go back and try some other flavors.

Came for the cookie happy hour, even $5 is still a lot for a cookie but seems to be the norm now. Got there a little before opening at 4pm as was in the area, they didn't open exactly at 4pm, took them a couple minutes. We said we were only going to get a cookie each but ended up with 4, should have just got a cookie each. I can't even remember what we ordered, s'mores was one of them. They give you your cookies in a to-go container, not a proper bakery box - the cookies are soo undercooked and gooey, the container became a mess, the cookies balancing on other cookies, hitting the roof of the box. The box ripped, no bag - was walking around the city like an idiot with this box. Tbh didn't even enjoy the cookies, as said they are soo undercooked they can't even hold themselves up. Total mess eating them and they were dry, the actual cooked part of the cookies were dry - had you grabbing for water. Won't be coming back.

Stopped into gooey on the inside for a late night treat. Got myself a chocolate caramel smores cookie. I walked down the small stairwell and entered a small store with nothing more than a counter to serve customers up some cookies. The front is small because there is loads of cookie baking craziness going on in the back. Ovens, racks, doughs all sprawled out. It is wonderful. There was only 1 worker present and they were definitely stressed. Running around in maximum overdrive. I can always appreciate an employee that is overwhelmed, but still prioritizing the customer. Now, for the cookie. They serve their cookies warm because the center is supposed to be underbaked. So, they do not recommend eating them cold. These things are dense. Thick, gooey, and chewy. The cookie had a melted marshmallow atop with a gooey, caramel center. Some really solid ingredients, but the cookie did not knock my socks off. It was good, but certainly not the best I had while in NY. All in all, a decent cookie. But, I would probably roll with a regular chocolate chip next time!

Texture was a bit off...I did like that they heated up the cookie. The place is emgery small, it's a grab and go kinda deal.

$7 for a cookie seems pricey, even for NYC. But if you stop in between 2-6 on Tuesday-Friday during 'Happy Hour,' you can enjoy Gooey on the Inside's cookies for only $5 each (the four-for-three deal still applies). I love that this place has a variety of cookies but that the menu stays consistent from week to week. The only change is that Gooey offers a Cookie of the Month that changes. The Bueno Bueno was my favorite -- a rich combination of cookie and Nutella.

The "well lit storefront" the owner brags about. It's a tiny gate that leads to a narrow staircase next to piles of trash. Not shady at all!
Calvin H.

Walked by and saw a sign pointing down some shady staircase for cookies (I know how it sounds...) After heading down we arrived at a small tight storefront greeted by absolutely no one. Eventually a staff member came out and we asked what the flavor of the month was. He mumbled "there's none." He wouldn't clarify if it was sold out or what it was. We ended up getting a bueno bueno cookie and a red velvet cookie. A whopping $8.71 per cookie and it was nothing special. The staff member was also more interested in chatting with his colleague about a new hat they had bought than finishing up our order. I should've followed my instincts and avoid shady staircases for desserts in the future. Edit What a salty reply from the owner, no wonder this place is trash lol. Why don't you focus on improving your store hospitality or your product instead of trying to make witty replies to reviews. Don't waste your time with this store, especially when there's tons of better, and cheaper cookie spots. Go to Levain, chip city, insomnia cookie, or literally anywhere else.

If you love a good chunky and gooey cookie then this is the place for you. They have many fun unique flavors and the staff members were very chill and nice. They have a happy hour where the cookies are $5!! The place is small and not suitable for dining but take out is ok

Hear me out, THIS IS BETTER THAN LEVIAN and Y'all can fight me. I don't care!! I had this place bookmarked for my NYC trip but it wasn't on my itinerary but we stumble on this place as we were heading to Washington Square park. Now we didn't even see the Happy Hour sign until we got in and let me tell you...WORTH IT!! $4.00 each and limit is two, so you bet your sweet tooth I got two and my friend got the other two. It's a cramp place downstairs but we got here before the rush because after we paid and was about to head back upstairs, there was already a line out of the door. Came at the right time and he even warmed up the whole box of cookies. It was gloomy out, and that cookie really made my day as we were headed to the park. Packing was really good, the other box is wrapped up and still good after a couple days (I place mine in the fridge when I got home, and when it was time to head back to CA, I just added into my luggage.) Still good and gooey. Thank you for the worker who took our order, and went above and beyond to packed our cookies. It means alot to me cause you know how TSA can get. p.s. Levain is overrated, yall should go here. This is the SIGN. The sign you're asking right now. GO here.

Many years later, and the gooeyness abides. Love it. Tried the Dark Chocolate Caramel S'Mores a La Mode and it was fabulous. Heavy and decadent. Nap recommended after.

It is a small set of stairs down from ground level and hot inside. There are some cookies inside the display on the far side from the entryway. The kitchen can be seen from the front of the shop. There were a few people before me and one man working. He'd take an order then go to the back to pack it up before bringing it to the front and ringing the customer up. Line went pretty quickly. I happened to be there during their cookie HH so they were all $4 for such big and gooey cookies. Limit 2 per person. He wrapped each cookie with wax paper and placed them into a thin cardboard box which was then covered in saram wrap. The cookies themselves were indeed crunchy on the outside and ooey on the inside. The texture is more like a cookie dough, i did wonder if it was fully cooked but i think thats how the cookie was intended to be. 2/5 Smores - so much cinnamon that i was not expecting. The marshmallow topping was very tacky after it cooled, made it slightly messier to eat. I didn't like this one that much personally. It was more reminiscent of a snickerdoodle cookie but with chocolate. I didn't get a smores profile from this 5/5 Bueno - delicious. The chocolate, hazelnut, and cookie were so good together. Moist but still crunchy and had the creaminess from the hazelnut center. Would get this again. I think about this place whenever I'm in the area. Heard they're open late, might be nice to grab a cookie after a night out if I'm nearby.

I arrived at 2pm on a weekday and the guy was doing a deep clean while I ate my sandwich. Love this. I got The Emma - no clue how they arrived at this name. It's one of their more spicy steak sandwiches and includes kimchi and Broccoli rabe - absolutely one of the most memorable sandwiches I've consumed. While I was there - a food blogger came in and shit a video. This place is no secret. My only "issue" is that the food is expensive. I TOTALLY get they are using high end ingredients - organics - locally sourced - etc. those items are not cheap. But my sandwich was normal sized - no pickle or any add on item - and I ate in but was not offered a plate or a fork. It's a deli. But for $20+, I can't eat here every day or even multiple times a week. Like NYC, it ain't for everyone and it ain't cheap. But I'll be back!

Everything tasted fresh, and the vinaigrette paired perfectly without being too heavy. The portion was super filling, which I always appreciate when it comes to salads. It's a great spot if you're looking for something fresh, satisfying, and easy--especially on a nice sunny day when you can sit back and enjoy the view. Definitely a place I'd come back to for salads, wraps, or sandwiches
