This place was so yummy! I I got the Thai salad and loved it! The fermented carrots in it were so unique and added a lot of flavor to the salad. Love this place!! Discovered Goodonya on Yelp and thought to myself, finally somewhere else to go besides Nectarine Grove! I love their story and mission, and that they serve almost everything organic as well as having many gluten free options. In the last month that we discovered this place we've already gone three times. The service has been amazing every time. Hilary specifically was so sweet and patient with all our questions! The food is so healthy and tastes amazing. The Greek bowl and Thai salad are very yummy. Very authentic and homemade style. The kombucha on tap is super refreshing. They have some unique things on their menu too. Also LOVE their desserts! The brownie bowl is to die for. They also just opened a little market next to the restaurant selling some of their products. Overall highly recommend this place! It's also right next to a classic car lot which my husband and his friends do not hesitate to check out every time we've gone here. It's the small things like forgetting to give water or even ask. The kids are very nice but often preoccupied chatting and socializing that gets the way of actual service. That's nuts for the amount of food. Most of the other items I have tried are bland and boring. Not the best at seasoning. Nectarine Grove is a way way better deal and the food is much better. I get twice as much food for less. A similar sandwich is 2x the food, plus fries or salad on the site for $15-17.00 Not sure why people are paying so much for this food. The place looks like it knows what it is doing but it does not. Food is bland, service is slow and prices are outrageous. I really want to like this eatery as I love the concept, but the value for money is not there... my chicken paillard was bland and just look at the pitiful plating. Is that supposed to be attractive, putting the bits of food in the corners of the plate? Couldn't even put more salad on the plate or some other veggies? I don't even think I got 4 oz of chicken. I appreciate that it's pastured but I expected more. If it tasted better I would have let the stinginess slide Also I'm skeptical of using rice bran oil to deep fry French fries, it's an industrial oil with too much omega 6 and not enough omega 3. The quality of the food has declined significantly. It used to be very good, but now it is flat and mediocre.

I've been going to Goodonya for years and I love all of their food and have never had anything bad here ever. I also love how they are seed oil free and support local farmers and such. I ordered the California breakfast bowl, and I added beef chorizo for some extra protein since I was feeling particularly hungry that morning. The extra beef chorizo was a whopping $6 to add on but I figured I would get a decent amount at the very least. This was not the case. I received what appeared to be a 1/4 pound of beef on the generous side but honestly it looks like less than that. I was pretty disappointed in the amount I received on my plate. If the add on for beef chorizo was 3 dollars (like most of their other add ons they offer) I wouldn't be writing this. I know inflation is bad and everything is more expensive, but this seems ridiculous. For reference, a pound of grass fed ground beef costs about 8 dollars at Sprouts. I will be going back to Goodonya but I definitely will not be adding any extras if it's that expensive. read more

It's got the perfect Encinitas vibe and was completely Instagram worthy for all the discerning teenage girl. The staff was attentive and accommodating, the food was delicious (of course) and my daughter felt completely spoiled. We got sat super quick which was awesome, and the service was fast and friendly. Their menu has a ton of great options for lunch and breakfast and seemingly something for everyone. The mushroom root beer was an interesting menu item that tasted very similar to normal root beer. Vibe / Service: 10/10 - They were very accommodating and sat us quickly for a party of 7 even though we only had 3 people present. The inside is cute and the staff were friendly and attentive. While we chose to not sit outdoors due to the cold weather, the outside area was very popular with stone fires and heaters. Parking: 8/10 - Street parking only. Good Onya Came to good onya for breakfast while in Encinitas, and it was great! I got an iced latte with caramel and almond milk and it was creamy and delicious. I'm constantly passing by Goodonya. Happy to see this local restaurant thriving! I remember when it was just an efficient operation near Clairemont Mesa ... and I would go there for lunch breaks for fast, healthy food. Now, they have this prime location located near Swami's beach and frequented by a lot of foot and auto traffic. No need to advertise their healthy fare because anyone can tell by the crowds at Goodonya, that this place serves quality meals. Several times I have come here with friends who have strict dietary restrictions. Goodonya is always willing to comply. So don't be afraid to ask! Veggie Burrito: crunchy and chock full of colorful veggies. Tuna salad: colourful and the tuna salad isn't drowning in mayonnaise. Cookies: vegan and gluten free. . . It's really hard to buy one. Goodonya does takeaway coffee and tea. Within this area, there is a pile of these cookies. I am tempted to take the whole display for myself! Raw cakes: I am always skeptical with raw pastries because some out there are too full of overpowering coconut. I was surprised to find that the raw cakes served at Goodonya were perfectly balanced. The cakes were about 8 x 8 cm but are truly filling. I ordered the PB and chocolate raw cake and it was so smooth. I am not usually fan of PB, so I was really happy I tried this raw cake. Now I'm hooked! I will definitely be back to grab more of these raw cakes. The caution is that if you are in a rush, I suggest you order the drink online (via their website). The coffee drinks can take longer than nearby Philz. At Goodonya, I like to order the espresso-based drinks. Spicy mocha: if you have a sore throat, this will clear that up! It is spicy that hits at the back of the mouth. Mineral mocha: don't let the "mineral" part of the name discourage you from ordering this healthy drink. It tastes like hot chocolate, but less sweet. Cashew vanilla latte: on warmer days, I like this latte that can be made less sweet if requested. Goodonya also has some great smoothies too! This is a really convenient location to get fruit and veg smoothies to enjoy while taking a warm walk to view Encinitas' scenery and surfers. read more

It's three strikes and you are out for me and Goodonya. But, it's me, not you, Goodonya. It all boils down to service and from what I have experienced here, I guess my expectations are just too high. Service is lackluster, to non-existent. The first two times we visited and ate in, service was super slow and questions about gluten free items were difficult for the servers to answer. Tables were greeted, orders placed and served completely out of order as we watched what went on around us and also happened to us those two times. So, today, I decide to try take out. That should help alleviate the service issue. I hate being "that" person who has to quiz the order taker about my order when I am both gluten free AND vegan. It makes me feel awkward and like a pain. I straight up asked the order taker if she could help me identify something that was BOTH vegan AND gluten free. She could not. She told me "anything" can be made vegan. I should learn to walk out of places that tell me that. Really? So, your Tuna salad sandwich can be made vegan? Interesting. I know that is not the case, and that is when I know we have a problem. I was told that the Sprout Probiotic Wrap would be vegan without the Cashew and Herb Spread, as an example. So, I step aside to look at the menu. I decide to ask what about that spread makes it not vegan, does it have dairy in it? The order taker pulls out a binder of ingredients and, as expected, it was a vegan spread. So, I ordered that, on the coconut wrap to make it gluten free. I waited and the barista and order taker were not busy and were talking. Meanwhile, the kitchen quietly, below their ability to hear, alerted them that my Wrap was ready. They did not hear. Meanwhile, the order taker went to take an order and the barista wiped down the sink, counter, and various other parts of his area. I tried to get his attention, but it was fruitless. My order sat for several minutes while no one noticed. When I got to my car expecting to pick up my "wrap" to eat it while I drove, it was not a wrap at all. I could not eat it while driving and had to wait until I got back to work an hour later to eat, which defeated the idea of eating in the car while running errands. I showed it to coworkers who dubbed it the a Salad "dump" instead of a Salad wrap. See the picture for the "wrap". I now realize, it most likely was NOT vegan either. The menu says it has a homemade ranch dressing on it. It was very clear to the server that I wanted a vegan, gluten free item. I do not think she relayed that to the kitchen, so now I most likely will be dealing with post-dairy consumption issues. Yay! This really should be a one star (no star?) review, but I am being generous because I truly appreciate the concept behind having an organic eatery with homemade items. It's how I live my life. Just, not this dysfunctionally. However, a vast majority of places I frequent these days clearly mark on their menu what the gluten free, vegan and vegetarian items are, or at least indicate that they could be made that way as an "option". I think just instituting that small change could improve these type of issues I had today. But, no need to institute these for me, because after today (and my two previous less than stellar visits), I will not be back. read more
