The Chicken and Biscuit soup is basically Chicken and Dumplings and SO SO good. I love garlic, and this soup had a lot of garlic. It might have been an extra garlicy day, but if you aren't so into garlic maybe sample it first. The place is SO cute. I vaguely remember this being some sort of antiquey/crafty place when I was a kid. I only remember because I would get so excited to go up the stairs and look at the stuff on the loft. Didn't expect downtown Georgetown to be extremely crowded at 5:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Parking was horrendous, paid parking lot was small and full, you had to drive around and street park wherever you can. The restaurant was a cozy but loud place to dine. With seating in an open loft on each side of a stairway created a very loud atmosphere, so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves. Since majority of their menu offerings were fried, I chose the good folks salad that I surprisingly enjoyed. Not much grilled chicken for $15 and suppose the picture is right on point. Other guests had the Caesar with grilled chicken, southern comfort burger that did not wow considering how many ingredients were on it. My favorite part were the fries. Our other guest had the chicken tenders with fries. Overall, the food was satisfactory, service was ok. However, we probably will not venture to downtown georgetown in the future. I came here later in the afternoon. It was very busy. There were no tables for one so I sat at the bar. I can't remember the bartenders name, but she was very sweet and attentive. The lollipops appetiser took some time to get to the table. They were very delicious, especially with the sauce! I ate them too quick and wish there was more of the serving. My entree, the salmon, took really long to come out. It was very good though! I don't think the prices matches the lollipops, but I understand it for the salmon. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend Goodfolks. We know sometimes things can go awry, but to completely neglect a table for more than 25 minutes is poor practice. the appetizers were subpar. The fried chicken on the salad was perfectly cooked and had a great flavor (not just salty breading/seasoning flavor, I could taste the chicken). Now the bad - it was a REALLY long wait to sit (luckily I can pass the time with my Grape Creek wine down the street) and once seated they seemed really understaffed and in the weeds in the kitchen. Lastly, the decor is pretty cool, but, all the walls are hard surfaces (tile, wood, etc.) and so there's nothing to deaden the sound of a packed 2 story restaurant full of people. ... it was hard to hear my wife across the table at times. The restaurant was not that busy, so there's no excuse! A chore to get any sort of service. Water refill? Not happening. Dessert? Couldn't even get a menu. Fortunately we were seated next to the host stand. This is just the continuation of the service issues I've had at this restaurant. I've now given it FOUR chances. If you are visiting Georgetown, Goodfolks is a must visit for great food, good vibes and picturesque decor. Every inch of this place is a showcase of the owner's thoughtfulness on design and function. From the moment you walk in, be prepared to take in all the intricate details from the furniture design, to wall art to the beautiful glass cups. I would like to give a shoutout to our server Abby. She is charming and attentive and manages to provide a great experience despite the managed chaos of hungry patrons. On to the food: I started off with the chicken and biscuit soup. On the menu it says creamy chicken soup with buttery biscuit pieces but there's also some small pieces of carrots and celery as well. This soup is not so watery that the biscuits quickly become soggy, nor is it so creamy that it's off putting and ruins my appetite. It's made perfect so that the biscuits still retains its fluffiness and it tastes wonderful. Next was the main dish: Country fried steak and eggs. This dish includes 8 oz New York strip, 2 eggs, potato hash and maple sage gravy. Here, you won't see a sad steak covered all over in gravy (which shouldn't be the star of the show) and half burnt hash like other places I've been to. You can tell, the owner of this business carries the thoughtfulness of the decor to the food as well. The chicken is tasty with just the right amount of gravy and hash to complement. Ok, trying not to get carried away here but seriously, I saw a side of pancakes on the menu. That's all it says....side of 2 pancakes. So I figured why not? I didn't really expect much. OH man, I'm so glad I ordered this. I've never had a pancake that had a slight crisp to it? Every bite, you can feel an ever so slightly subtle crunchiness and combined with honey butter syrup, this dish is an absolute work of art. My only complaint about this business is that they don't have a the Yelp waitlist function. I may drive by Georgetown again to run errands or something and on a whim want to be able to just easily sign up on Yelp vs showing up and then waiting 20 minutes for a text to get a seat. It started out poorly. We had to wait 25 minutes for our fried chicken to cook. I guess it took time to heat the fry oil. I ordered fried chicken of two thighs and got one thigh and a drumstick. Goodfolks yeah (great staff), Good food... Not so much. I tried the Patty Melt today for lunch served with fries. The fires were great but the patty melt was not as good as I expected. I'd been here before and I remember the food being better than this trip. The issues with the patty melt were numerous, but specifically, cheap cheese, and hardly any other ingredients on it. Overall balance of flavor was completely elementary. Looked like some 1st graders made grilled cheese and stuck a meat patty in the middle. If you want a good Patty Melt, I don't recommend Goodfolks. My dining partner says it was arguable worse than school lunch. But the fries were good... Chicken Tenders, 3/10 - I ordered the two piece tender with Chef's Veggies as my side. The tenders were fried well so the texture was good. However, they were severely lacking flavor, even with their namesake "Good Sauce". Overall, I would say the food here tastes kind of like when your mom alters a recipe to make it healthier. But if I'm ordering chicken tenders or a burger, I'm here to indulge. Review update: The restaurant responded to another review calling this fake news saying that I was offered a 10% discount and a free dessert. Simply, I was offered so such discount. As for the free dessert... While I would not necessarily expect it, my child would have received that anyhow if the restaurant honored the reservation in the first place. I know this because I got one when I went there several weeks prior for my birthday where several hundred dollars were spent. Keep in mind that some responses to reviews are fake news. I have to say that the food is good. I love the chicken. Seriously, I do. But, let's face it, chicken isn't everything. I booked a family dinner for my son's 14th birthday. Goodfolks was the one and only place he suggested for his celebration dinner. I made reservations well over a week in advance with a clerk on the phone and immediately received a text message confirmation that the reservation was set. Upon arriving for the reservation, we were told that it was cancelled as the restaurant was sold out for a wedding, apparently booked several weeks before I reserved my table. The manager told me that I was supposed to have received a text about it, but I was able to show him that the only communication I received was a confirmation. He assured me that night he would contact me to make it right. Fast forward a couple of weeks with no communication and I called back. The same manager told me he didn't know how to make things right and he couldn't go back in time to prevent the reservation from being made. Nice. If it were me, I'd feel terrible for ruining a kid's birthday dinner and earnestly make it right. But, what do I know? I think it's important to be decent to people (especially children) and provide good customer service to people. Bottom line: Sure, come for the chicken, but make sure you can waste an evening with nothing important to celebrate on the line because they just won't care. read more

I was really excited to try this place but did not have the best experience. The best way to describe the food is that it feels like it's "elevated" soul food. The restaurant itself is super cute. Our waitress was super sweet but it was obvious she did not know what she was doing. I had to ask for water multiple times, I had to ask her to clear dishes from our appetizers. It was a gorgeous day yesterday and we decided to have dinner in Georgetown on the Downtown Square at one of the many restaurant choices available now in the walkable historic downtown area. It had been a few months since we last visited Goodfolks and waiting only thirty minutes for a table at 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday or any day without a reservation is pretty good in Georgetown today like in Round Rock and Austin. We were welcomed and shown to our table in the main dininh area on the first floor near the large window that overlooks the Downtown Square. The restaurant decor is as fresh and clean as it was when it opened last year and the bistro diner feel is very nice and inviting. The service was very attentive from being greeted when walking in to the manager checking on us during the wait along with our server being very attentive throughout our meal. Missing from the experience was the "amuse bouche" of white pimento cheese and crackers that was presented on our first visit as well as a featured weekly fresh fruit pie selected that was highlighted earlier. It may be that the menu and service was re-tooled to accommodate current challenges with kitchen staffing, so hopefully it's something that'll return in the future. The menu at Goodfolks is largely chicken-centric with a narrow range of seafood, beef, and pasta to accommodate and attract everyone at a table, so it was surprising the issues we experienced involved the fried chicken dishes we ordered. We ordered the chicken sandwich with fries and their signature two-piece fried chicken entree with a breast/wing, coleslaw, and honey biscuit. The chicken sandwich was prepared really well and looked great as put together on the bun. The bacon saved the sandwich as the chicken lacked seasoning and flavor, but the fried potatoes were really nice and tasty. I was surprised that the bone-in fried chicken was served far beyond the typical golden-brown color of classic southern fried chicken as it was bordering on a burnt color. It was served quickly by the food runner to our table who then immediately departed and I thought that perhaps it was the seasoning that had created the charred color of the crust. Unfortunately, my fried chicken was in fact overcooked and somewhat greasy. I began to eat in normal fashion, in case my perception was wrong, but the crust was quite hard and it had a burnt taste and was quite salty though the chicken itself was fairly bland. The coleslaw was exceptionally prepared and dressed well and the biscuit was tender with great flavor, so both were the highlight of my meal. I asked our server about the over-doneness of the fried chicken once I started eating when the server returned to check after we received our food, but it appears that my chicken was okay to her. Later, a manager stopped by the table as we were waiting for the server to pickup my card for the check and I commented to her about my chicken, as I figured that it may have resulted from the fryer oil being at too high a temp that overcooked the crust before the chicken was fully cooked or if it could have been dropped back into the fryer to heat it up before it was served since it was greasy, but it appears that Goodfolks has a specific method of frying chicken with a pressure-type fryer so the appearance and taste of the fried chicken and my experience didn't immediately strike alarm to the server or manager. Perhaps, my chicken was within the range of what's desired for Goodfolks. Later after leaving, I looked at photos of their fried chicken on their website and it was quite a bit lighter, so hopefully my experience was a one-off and just a challenging off-day for the kitchen staff and management. read more

We used to go here every week or so, but a few months ago the management changed. Their customer service has gotten progressively worse, and their food has fallen a bit too. I read with interest Lee's review. How hard is it to comp a meal or give someone a coupon for a few dollars when you've obviously failed? If a manager doesn't know how to comp something for his customers, then he's not a very good manager - I'd even say that he has no experience in the restaurant business! The fried chicken was more highly seasoned than I can really tolerate, but the "fried rice with vegetables" had no seasoning at all. Date night with my husband tonight, we decided to try Goodfolks. Wow amazing! We were greeted by the hostess with a huge smile. Got our choice to sit upstairs or downstairs. Our waiter Mark came promptly to our table and took great care of us. He was extremely helpful with suggestions and questions. He was professional, attentive, and friendly. This is unfortunately hard to find these days. We ordered Brussel Sprouts for an appetizer. They were amazing! Then we split Chicken & Waffles for dinner! The chicken was so juicy but perfectly fried. The waffles were light and fluffy with a rich honey syrup. The food came out so quick! We will definitely be back! Good folks in Georgetown is very good!! We've been a few times and it has never disappointed. They do change the menu quarterly and currently have no red meat but what they have is fantastic. we have the Nashville hot sandwich, the barbecue shrimp, and the roasted brussels sprouts all amazing. The chicken didn't disappoint! I would agree this is there best item on the menu and probably what keeps people going back. I also had the mashed potatoes and truffle Mac. Both were good but the Truffle Mac and Cheese could have used more cheese (thicker texture as well). I was disappointed by the mini biscuits with honey.
