A friend and I just tried this place on a whim while walking around the square. We were in for a treat! At first we were really impressed by the atmosphere. Loved the two story dining room. Our drinks were great and all of our food was excellent. My only complaint was that I had eaten the complimentary pimento cheese unknowing that there was bacon in it, and I am a pescatarian. If our server had mentioned it, I would have passed. It was an honest mistake and did not hinder my experience, however people with stricter diets might feel differently. A hidden gem still perhaps, but not for long! Darling redo of previous burger establishment, Good Folks is as delicious as it is charming. No reservations for less than 6, so it could be tricky, but we showed up for brunch on Sunday at 9:57 and were seated immediately when they opened at 10. We couldn't decide as everything sounded so good, so we ordered strawberry waffles, side of eggs, and the four piece chicken tenders with slaw and potato salad thinking we'd just take the extras home (spoiler alert-there were no extras-we just stuffed ourselves!). Everything was delicious--not just good, but delicious. The waffles were served with a delightful vanilla infused whipped cream which was perfect with the strawberry purée and fresh strawberries. The egg yolks were a beautiful orange color and cooked perfectly over easy as we requested. The chicken tenders were large, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The slaw had bits of Granny Smith apple sliced into it-a genius touch and one I will add at home. The potato salad was savory perfection. I am the queen of mustard potato salad (seriously, it's legendary), so I usually skip the potato salad as it's often worse than meh with those bits of pimento, but this was a mayo based salad that was the best I've tried. I can't even guess what all gave it its umami goodness, but I recommend it to everyone. Prices were very reasonable, even more so considering how expensive everything has gotten. Not much too say other than service and the fried chicken was excellent. The atmosphere like many today was very plain which causes a lot of noise when sound bounces all of the hard surfaces. I came here with a group of volunteers for a holiday brunch and we had a wonderful time! The restaurant was very accommodating of our party of 12, and the brunch menu had a good variety to accommodate a variety of tastes. Our waiter was excellent and he was patient with our many separate checks :) Guests in our party had the strawberry waffles, blueberry pancakes, classic breakfast, BBLT and more, and everyone ended the meal with empty plates! The coffee was also excellent. The decor for the holidays was beautiful. I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant, especially if you are looking for a festive and comfortable place to take a group! read more

Just tried this new restaurant Georgetown last night. My husband and I had the fried chicken which was very tasty. Our friends tried the chicken & biscuit soup which was good but there were no biscuits in it. We told our waitress & she brought out two tiny biscuits. We asked if we could have a few more. She brings out 4 tiny biscuits, no butter, no honey with it..got the bill and were charged EIGHT dollars extra for those bite size biscuits!! Really? Most places give you complimentary bread. They need to rethink the price & size of their biscuits! read more

Our first visit. Nice venue. The appetizers were fantastic. We all really enjoyed our entrees. I highly recommend the Patty Melt.

First time in. Had the lollipop bacon wrapped andouille sausage for appetizer with dipping sauce. Really good and simple flavors. Had fried chicken white meat, dark color throws off your visual senses, but the juiciness and flavor quickly corrects your what your eyes take in. Ordered the fried rice which looked really pricey. But again it was amazing. Only rice I will eat is fried because to me it is the only one worth eating. This is best fried rice I have ever had! Another flavor correction for what my wallet was questioning. Bartender Carol was outstanding. Not only made a killer whiskey sour, but guided us well in our ordering process! I would like to put this in our weekly rotation, but for now can only afford it in the monthly. But, the next pay raise and we moving up to weekly! Especially if they can get a good sangria on the menu. Lol. Everyone here was very friendly and actually seemed to enjoy their jobs, which is always to go see. Love the food but chef has to cut back on salt. Both meals were salty. Even the salad.

We went out to lunch today. Very uneven experience. The menu is very limited but we tried the fried chicken and the fried chicken salad with a cup of tomato bisque first. The bisque was very sour which was not pleasant although the grilled cheese crouton was very good. We got a basket of tenders instead of the dark meat we ordered which was sad. We told the waitress but chose not to send it back. The coleslaw side was truly awful. It was a HUGE SERVING of mayo heavy gloppiness which could have been good if the vegetables and apple could have been tasted. One third or even less of the mayo ya'll! It was almost soupy. The fried chicken salad was fine. Nothing special. The service was super friendly but spotty. Three different people waited on us. We got water but no refills. We were never asked if we wanted dessert and were rushed out as if we were in a hurry. We're retired so we were not. I think for me I'll pass on Goodfolks for lunch next time which will not be a problem for them. It was PACKED with lunch customers. I think they'll make it with a few tweaks to their menu and service. It's nice to see a beautiful new restaurant on the square. read more

This was our first time to try Goodfolks. We have lived in Georgetown for a long time and watched this building become many different things. They did a wonderful job renovating the space! We had been wanting to try this place and were downtown on business today and decided that we would dine here for lunch, time was about 11:15AM - good time for an early lunch and back to work. We were welcomed as we entered, seated at a table and offered menus. A few minutes later an (I assume employee) came by and asked if we would like some water, great - thanks, please do - from that point on we sat for 15-20 minutes and had no further contact or involvement from anyone at this establishment. We were the only prospective customers that I could determine unless there were hordes unseen - I would think unlikely @ 11:15am. There appeared to be around 7-8 people whom I thought to be involved with operations in this establishment and not one stopped by to check on us or offer any assistance after we were seated. Perhaps I am wrong and it is ok to seat customers, offer menus, pour a couple of glasses of water while spilling some on the table in the effort. My wife and I got up and left about 11:35am without having any further contact from the time we were seated and had water. Would give 0 stars if I could - horrible experience, I have never had anything like this - we eat out quite often and have never ever had service as poor as this. I'm sure this place is good but the food was not what I expected. I came in with family for dinner based on reviews while looking for a place in downtown Georgetown. I had not seen the menu until we sat down after being told there was no bartender to make drinks, pour wine or beer. There was a manager but apparently couldn't handle the small bar. We were ok with no alcohol but three different parties after us were not and left. We sat by front door. The food was breakfast food along with fried chicken and waffles. Some people in our party are not breakfast for dinner people, they wanted to leave but I insisted we try it based on the reviews. I had biscuits and sausage gravy - too much sage and large kielbasa like sausage definitely not what I consider breakfast sausage. My son-in-law had the same and said it was fine but too much sage. My husband had a pasta dinner that was very bland. My daughter had the chicken and waffles and said it was fine. The place was full so obviously people enjoy the food. We thought the place best for breakfast if ever we come back. read more

Visited yesterday evening. Food, as always, was great. Service was absolutely horrendous. I am not one to complain at restaurants, so it takes a lot to really get to me. Our server paid zero attention to the table. We ordered drinks and 3 appetizers to begin. We had to remind her twice about them. 2 were soup.... They ended up coming out with our food over an hour after ordering. Okay, fine, it's Saturday (but not packed at all). During that hour she did not come over except for when we flagged her down while she was talking to her friends. We had to get sauces and drinks from a different person. Then we waited for 15 minutes to ask for the check only after having to walk over to her and her friends yet again. At that time we asked for refills on our tea, which they had been empty since half way through the meal. She poured us room temp tea with zero ice. At that point I was done. She never came back to run our cards so I, for the last time, took her the cards and slammed them down next to her and her friends. 3 stars because the food was good. If you have allergies or any type of food sensitivities and don't like to try new places PLEASE give Goodfolks a try. My family and friends know how hard it is for me (and them since they too have to adhere to what I can't have if we go out) to try any type of new place due to these restrictions and sometimes it feels like all the new places just aren't equipped to deal with allergy/sensitivities. We went in this past Sunday for lunch and I started by asking the hostess if they had someone who knew their ingredients and could go through the menu with me. She was gracious, enthusiastic and didn't hem or haw at wondering if there was a person who could chat with me. She brought out Chef Justin and he went through every single item and offered an alternative to almost every dish. He was even able to make some changes and do some items from scratch for me if I wanted. THIS right here meant we not only got to TRY this new restaurant but they made sure to accommodate me in every possible way that was available. Once we sat down he then checked up on me multiple times before ordering to give me other ideas he had or suggestions. This is the level of service I wish all restaurants who are farm to table or scratch kitchens offered. FYI they also make all their desserts in house from scratch as well.
