Chris was very accommodating on the phone and was able to reschedule my move with a couple days notice. Then the movers showed up...late...they took off a couple branches backing the driveway. Two of them started to move my boxes and chairs. After about 10 mins the leader told me did not want to move me because I had excessive dog hair. WHAT? He claimed that he didn't want to get his truck dirty. His words not mine. After they tracked snow and dirt thru my house they dumped the 20 or so boxes and chairs in the garage and didn't even put the stuff back where they found it. I asked just to move the garage to the new location and they said they weren't going to do the job. I rescheduled they move with Hunt movers with a days notice and they had no problem with the move. Requested they re-pack a storage unit & deliver items to another address. Communication throughout the job was great especially when I had to make last minute adjustments. Three guys showed up & totally motored in wrapping & packing the unit high & tight. When they arrived @ the final destination, they quickly brought it all upstairs, unwrapped everything & assembled a bed. I was introduced to this company when they cold called me, presumably after seeing my home listed for sale. As a salesperson myself, I really appreciate a little hustle with getting a client. The man on the phone was really nice and offered to send the owner of the company to my home for a free estimate. I really appreciated the face-to-face quote process. Good Move Movers were a few hundred dollars more expensive than a phone quote I got from a competitor, but I realized GMM's quote included two trucks, four guys (they surprised me with an extra guy on the day of the move for free), insurance and packing my art. Who knows what the competitor was really including, you know? Anyway, the owner, I believe his name is Chris, is a very nice person. He was not present the day of the move, of course, but his employees are very respectful, hardworking men. They called me ma'am and worked extremely hard the entire day. Nothing was broken! I've never used any other companies as this was our first big move as a family, but I would recommend these guys again in a heartbeat. Edited to add: I had to laugh when I read another reviewer on here talking about how these guys have studied the science of moving. It's so true! They have like a whole language about how to move each item. You should see them! They'll see an awkward or heavy thing and go into this mode of communicating and boom, it's on the truck. They sent 3 men. One brand new. One very seasoned. One somewhere between. They were excellent. Very courteous and efficient. I'm happy with the move. I gave 4 of 5 stars because the estimate was for about $1k but the actual cost was about $2k. They didn't estimate the cost from an on-site evaluation, although I did offer to have someone come over to see the place; the estimate was done over the phone. I had a 1 bedroom apartment and moved to a 2 bedroom apartment. I have a ton of suits and a ton of books. Costs are based on time and number of boxes / type of box. The estimate seemed low to me, so the $2k final cost was still reasonable, but I would have liked a more accurate estimate. Overall, this was a good experience. Moving is generally stressful and I count this one as a success. I would recommend this company to a friend. read more

I have moved seven times in my life, and all but one was a nightmare, but this last one was a breeze. I contacted Chris Dunne and he promptly came out and gave me a quote. I had received and was considering several quotes, but they beat the quote and I contracted with them for my move. They boxed all of my belongings and made the job as simple as writing a check. These guys were pros. And genuinely nice guys, seemed like they actually enjoyed their jobs. I was REALLY dreading this move, especially since the last time I used a moving service they cancelled on me last minute. And the company I hired at the 11 hour WAY over-priced me, and the guys who showed up smelled like boozers... Here's one company that made good on what they said. The up-front price given was the actually cost too! They were available to take my calls and didn't make me feel like a dummy for my worrying questions. This company is great. We were initially scheduled to move a few days before the new year and our new landlord told us he wasn't quite ready yet. With less than a 24 hour notice, Good Move allowed us to reschedule our move. We were given a start time of 8-9am and the guys gave me a 30 minute advance notice the morning of and showed up promptly at 8:30. They packed up our old 1br in about 1.5 hours and had everything unloaded at the new place by noon. It was great. We hired Good Move Movers for our move on July 18 and 19th. Chris was excellent at following up and having a few phone calls leading up to the move to provide comfort that everything was set for moving day. We had a double move, moving out of our home the night before we closed, and a move-in the following day. HERE'S THE BOTTOM LINE...My wife and I had a very frustrating high-rise to high-rise move (Gold Coast to South Loop), and throughout our ordeal Chris and his staff were VERY accommodating, understanding and most importantly kept working to get the job done. The problem was that the building we were moving out of was under major exterior renovation and also somehow managed to over book move-outs for that day. So without going into to detail I'm sure you can imagine a number of things that made it difficult and slow. I would also like to note that most of our furniture is high quality and regrettably expensive (wood, leather, etc), and Chris's man Bo did an impressive job of insuring all the furniture was well wrapped, padded, shrink-wrapped, rubber-banded, etc. Everything was moved without any dings or scratches. (But that's how it should go in my opinion, your stuff shouldn't get all beat up just cause you're moving.) If you need to move then just go with these guys...it's a solid recommendation!! read more

My husband and I have hired Good Move Movers two times within the last month. First we had to move out of our townhome into a storage unit and the second time was out of the storage unit into our new home. Both times Good Move Movers did an exceptional job. They were prompt, courteous and handled our items with care. Our couches were wrapped with shrink wrap and all of our furniture/TVs were wrapped in blankets (they even let us keep the blankets on a few items and our TVs while they remained in storage). Their pricing is very fair (they offer a 5% discount if paying in cash) and they were very accommodating with our schedule (our second move was scheduled less than a week in advance and for a move on a Sunday). I do have to say, I was exhausted just watching them move our things! These guys strap dressers onto their backs with ease all while walking up and down flights of stairs!! Moving is very stressful/overwhelming and Good Move Movers made the whole process painless and easier to deal with. As good as it gets, indeed! I hired Good Move Movers and it was probably the best decision i've made in a while. They were fast and precise and were also nice enough to place my furniture where i wanted it so it would be easier for me later. I know moving into a third floor walk-up is no mover's dream but they were really cool about it. When they went to grab the sofa sleeper, which weighs 1000 pds, i thought they were going to faint or throw a fit, especially when it didn't fit through the door! instead, they paused for a second, regrouped, found a solution and all my stuff was moved in on time ... and undamaged! I hired Good Move to haul just one item; a 400+ pound bathtub to the fourth floor of our new condo. No elevator! They picked it up from the showroom, wrapped it really well, and got it up there really quickly! Many other companies refused to do the job because it was too heavy, but they did and most importantly, they were really nice about it. These people did an amazing job for us. My son was moving out of his apartment and dropped a glass table on his foot and ended up in the hospital unable to complete his move. He HAD to be out the next day. So in the morning I started making calls to see if anyone could help us. Given that I was calling on the 31st with no flexibility I obviously wasn't having much luck. But when I called Good Moves they were able to move some things around and squeeze us in. I expected they would charge extra for the short notice but no-they charged their standard fee. The name is very appropriate! The crew of three guys were very efficient in unloading the contents of my storage locker and then moving all of the items into my three story townhouse. They made sure to take care of my items as well as the floors and walls of the house, which was no easy feat with some of the items that needed to go to the top floor.
