Would've given a 5 but when I went today and got my usual go-to dish, namely sul-lung-tang, it wasn't as good as it used to be. The broth smelled really bad for some reason. Upon further investigation, it was the meat inside the soup that was emulating sour smell. You know, kind of smell when you don't wash off the bones/meat(which are collectively used to make this white broth) and they start to smell like a tub full of water that's been sitting in the middle of forest for years. All to say--it was quite unappetizing. Nevertheless, the taste was still there so I gulped it down. I'm sure I ran into this problem because we went pretty late (this place is open 24/7). Try their soups with various meat inside. I'd say first 4 soup/tang their menu is solid. If you finish the soup you can ask for refill! I feel bad leaving a horrid review on one of my go-to Korean restaurants. I understand that COVID has created unfortunate situations for a lot of restaurants, such as labor issues and supply shortages, however, I do not condone ignorant and unfair actions. My wife and I ordered our favorite bone soup (seul-leung-tang) dishes along with an appetizer called "bo-saam". It is a steamed pork belly with all the fixings. The bone soup was great, but the pork belly was 90% fat and we could barely make bite size portions. I let the waitress know that the dish was literally not edible and the waitress asked if they could make another dish. I declined the offer as my appetite for the pork belly was gone. As we finished our dinner, I asked for the check and asked if they would take the pork belly off the bill and she came back with a simple "NO" answer. I noticed the manager was coaching the waitress on what to do with this issue and unfortunately the action they took drove me to share my experience with Yelp. What's sad is that I'm not sure if the owner or the acting manager will ever read what is being posted on Yelp. What's worse is I could sense that this restaurant is pretty much a hands off, let the restaurant run itself without leadership type if restaurant, and that is not good in the long run. I've had worse experiences than this in the past at other hospitality establishments and it's not the end of the world, however, I would think twice about returning to GomtangE and if I do return, it may not be for a long time. Never heard of this restaurant until this past year. They have good service. They're known for their house boiled bone broth.

I came here after I got 8 molars taken out since I couldn't eat anything solid. The service was great, the kalbi-tang was delicious and fell right off the bone, which made it easier to eat, obviously. It's not a high-end Korean restaurant, it's rustic and is styled old-fashioned; Korean style. The place is usually filled with older Koreans since it's kind of hard to make at their age. I would always take my grandparents here and they loved it. It makes sense, the way you make the Sulangtang is to get A LOT of Ox-tail bones and tendon bones, keep it on the stove for an entire day, and then lift it up, which would be the hard part. Anyways, if you're looking for a home-cooked Korean meal, this is the spot to go. The prices aren't expensive at all, it's what you pay for. We ordered the bulgogi jeongol (serves three), which has really good flavor to it. It has good portions of noodles, meat, and other ingredients to feed three people. The broth also pairs well with the complimentary rice. The first few times we visited, we were served by an older waitress with much unneeded attitude. I remember asking her for more rice, which made her fussy. It was kinda insulting especially when we were the only patrons there. Usually has decent late night food, but the last two times I've been here with my coworkers have been TERRIBLE. The first time we were here, on a late Saturday night, we were a group of 5 and we all split the check. Our waitress looked at all of our receipts to make sure that we tipped. I tipped in cash and put it under the receipt. Upon seeing that I tipped $0 on my credit card tip, the waitress confronted me with a "WHY YOU NO TIP?". My entire table was shocked as we have never been hassled for our tip before and it was like a $5 tip. I showed her that my cash tip was under my receipt and she left with no apology. The second time I came here, also on a Saturday night with the same group of coworkers, we also had the same waitress. One of my coworkers decided to pick up the check, so that we wouldn't have to burden the waitress by splitting it. The entire bill was around $112, we work in the service industry so we were all just going to tip in cash for our meals separately. My coworker that footed the bill tipped $12 for his meal, which was actually generous as his meal was around $25. Our waitress saw that he tipped $12 on the receipt, yelled at him, returned the receipt, and proceeded to force him to tip $22 in total. When he came back to our table to explain what happened, the waitress came by and proceeded to yell at all of us in Korean, which none of us could speak but we understood enough that she was telling us off for not tipping that much. We left the rest of our cash tip on the table and promptly left. We will never be coming back here on Saturday nights and will especially never come here when that waitress is working. Never in my life have I been harassed by workers to tip accordingly, especially since I always make sure to tip whenever I go out. I'm still shocked that all of this was over $5-$10 tips. read more

They have a great soup base which makes for a winning meal if your recovering from being sick, beating the cold weather, or in need of a hearty meal! Things have changed since my 2013 review. The menu has expanded considerably, which is good if you want something besides oxtail soup (sullungtang). I recently dined here and the sullungtang was just about the same in terms of quality. But the radish kimchi (ggak-doo-gi) was terrible, absolutely horrendous and unripe. The right ggak-doo-gi would have made this meal so much better. I recommend dining elsewhere for sullungtang (try Gombawoo in Annandale). Also, I've had plenty of Seollungtangs at several different places, and I can tell you that this place is for real. The color and texture of the soup tells it all. Seollungtang is made by braising bones for hours. The longer it's cooked, the better it is. This place serves very opaque, creamy white soup whereas other places serve very opaque, snow white soup. The more snow white the soup, the more milk they added to throw people off. It means the soup has not been cooked long enough. The sticky after-texture tells me that the soup was done well. It is the sticky texture that traditional Koreans look for. Anyway, add a little bit of the Kkak tooGi sauce, salt & pepper, scallions and rice, and you're good to go. read more

My favorite 24/7 place to eat in Centerville especially after a night of drinking or singing at karaoke at Lulus. At late night, there is only server so service is kind of slow depending on the night. My favorite thing to order is budae jigae (army stew) and bossam (steamed pork). The banchan, side dishes, they offer is just kimchi and pickled daikon. The reason why Budae Jigae is so worth getting because it can feed up to 2-4 people. The budae jigae stew comes with spam, hotdog, kimchi, onions, small chunks of pork, kimchi, ramen, tofu, and beans. My favorite part is the spam and pork. Personal advice, is to order more ramen espcially when you are sharing. If you dont like spicy, be careful because its a little bit spicy. The bossam is one of the best I had in the area too, they give a lot of pieces but it is still tender with the right amount of fat with little amount of bones. However, the cabbage didnt seem too fresh at late night so that was a little disappointing. Overall, it's still very high quality food for 24/7 place.
