Visiting and wanted Chinese food. Found Golden China on Yelp. 4/5 star rating, so we had to try this place. No dine-in yet due to Covid pandemic. Take-out & deliveries only at this time. Located right off 45. Has a small parking lot. Walked in our order. Very busy with take-out & delivery orders. Employees were very busy. Ordered boneless spare ribs, shrimp fried rice, broccoli w/ garlic sauce and a hot & sour soup. Service was good. Our problem was the food. The broccoli was yellow. It was not yellow broccoli. Appears to be broccoli was green when fresh, but had been kept too long and it began to wilt. Was not overcooked, found the broccoli to be old. The broccoli was bitter. The garlic sauce did not even mask the taste of bitterness. The pork meat for the boneless spare ribs was of very low quality. The meat was dry with a tough texture. Shrimp fried rice was good. First and last time ordering here. I called to let them know our order was incorrect And was yelled at on the phone. She insisted that what I received was "correct" when in fact it wasn't. (Why else would a new customer call) im thinking a simple mistake no biggie they'd offer a refund or a replacement maybe. However not the case. My order is the exact same anytime I order Chinese, I always get the orange chicken. Really disappointed in how they chose to handle the situation and blaming the customer for the issue and yelling at me on the phone, so loudly that my husband grabbed the phone because it was that disrespectful and completely unnecessary.. We took a chance on Golden China after nearly giving up on finding reliably decent Chinese takeout in the Woodlands. We were heartened by the preponderance of glowing reviews on Yelp and I'm all too glad to report that our dinner here last night was in line with what many have said. Golden China sits right along the I-45. The location isn't pretty, nor is the interior of the restaurant with its old linoleum tables and flickering fluorescent lighting. But what it lacks in looks, it makes up with friendly, fast service and great food. Along with a typical lunch menu, there is a dinner menu that offers up general takeout favorites as a combo with fried rice (note that this is Texan fried rice, which is just plain fried rice with a touch of soy sauce - no veggies, pork, or other add-ins) and an egg roll. We asked our server if we might be able to get soup instead of the roll and the substitution was allowed with ready amicability. A plate of fried wonton strips and duck sauce were brought to our table for us to munch on while we waited and within a few heartbeats, we were brought our soups. Egg drop soup here is exactly what one might expect - slightly thick and sunnily yellow with ribbons of eggs throughout. I ordered the shrimp with broccoli as an entree, which was prepared so quickly that it arrived while I was still happily slurping away at my soup. Unlike other takeout restaurants with their dinky shrimp, the shrimp here were large, tender, and only slightly fishy tasting (hurray for GMO'd animals!). The broccoli were nicely cooked and I liked the sauce that came with it well enough, though judging from how quickly it gelatinized, I would say it's on the greasier side. The serving size was large enough that I had a decent takeaway portion even after stuffing myself. Service was speedy and always with a smile, and it seemed fairly popular on a Saturday night, even with its pauperized, no-frills decor. We ordered delivery. I am very impressed with how good this food was . We ordered the sweet and sour pork. It was crispy and delicious. The orange chicken was so good and big pieces. Combination fried rice has just the right amount of proteins. It was so good. The shrimp lowmein was also very flavorful. EVERYTHING was fantastic and packaged very well. Highlights were definitely the Singapore noodles, orange beef, and egg rolls, but everything I ordered was great and got tons of compliments. Very nice staff, sadly, the food wasn't great. The mei noodle dish was lacking flavor and noodles overcooked. The Szechuan pork was interesting.... The sauce was not like any Szechuan I've ever had. I really wanted to like it but it's not for me. I'm sure many would disagree however. read more

This may look like a "hole in the wall" but the food is amazing. Took the suggestion of some of the reviewers and order the Crab Rangoons , Orange Chicken and the Sesame Chicken. My only complaint was that I wanted more heat in the Orange Chicken. Other then that, food was so delicious! Golden China lives up to the reviews of great food and great, friendly service. Although I've lived in the area for over 20 years, I had never tried the restaurant before. I'm so glad I finally did. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. I and my husband both loved the egg rolls, possibly the best ones we've had in years. I had the General Chicken which was very tender. The fried rice was excellent as well. The crab puffs could have been a little more crispy, but they were still good. I'd recommend getting take out or delivery. There's not a whole lot of places to sit due to COVID-19, and the aroma from the kitchen is pretty strong. I'll be back to try it again. read more

Had food delivered to my hotel, was told it would take 35-45 minutes, only took 20! I love spicy Kung Pao Chicken, that's what I ordered,,,and that's what I got. And, one of the best bowls of Hot and Sour Soup I've had. I almost won't order Chinese food unless they have the house/special mustard. They have it. Even though this building looks rough the food is really good. We came in and sat down for dinner it was nice a quaint. They even made their orange chicken not spicy for my child who wanted orange chicken. The food was good and the service was good as well. Don't be fooled by the looks of this place. They actually do serve desirable food. Just go in. Sit down. Order. And judge them by their food. You won't be disappointed. It's good food. Not great, mind you, but good. I found our server to be quite friendly and prompt. She brought out won ton strips and its accompanying sweet and sour sauce. Nice touch. We ordered the hot & sour soup, steamed dumplings, and the orange beef. The hot & sour soup was okay. It could be more... well, hot and sour. It needs more vinegar and spiciness. Actually, it needs more ingredients like tofu and pork, etc. But otherwise it was okay. The steamed dumplings were extremely dense. They are pork, which is fine. But they contain no vegetables. So they are more like wrapped pork meatballs rather than dumplings. They taste okay, but I found them unpleasant still. The orange beef was pretty decent. The tangerine strips were a nice touch. The dish was on the sweet side. And they need to make it (you guessed it) more spicy. The portions of all the dishes was pretty good. There were two of us and the food amount was more than we could finish. We had to take the rest home. We'll be back to try other dishes and to update this review. read more

This (nearly) hidden gem is the best Chinese food in the area. It's a little difficult to find, and if you judge it by the exterior of the restaurant, you might inadvertently skip over some really great food. If you have a problem with the atmosphere, they deliver as well, or you can grab takeout. I personally love eating in. It's like having dinner in my grandmother's kitchen and the owners are unbelievably nice. There isn't a problem with portions as they are HUGE, and we always take some home. The hot and sour soup is the best I've found so far, they decently season everything and the cost is reasonable as well. Give it a shot if you're looking for big portions, and good American Chinese food that won't bankrupt you. Love this place and it's become my go to for Chinese food around here. read more
