If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My family and I visited Gold Star Salinas a few months ago looking specifically for a DIESEL TRUCK. At first, the experience seemed promising; the sales staff were friendly and helpful, although they didn't have the exact color we wanted on the lot. They had me test drive a truck and assured us they would locate the right one. Soon after, they told us they found a match at another dealership and arranged to bring it over. A few days later, we returned to complete the paperwork. That's when everything changed. The salesperson's attitude was noticeably different. Even my wife pointed out how rushed and dismissive they had become. We felt pressured to sign quickly without the same level of care or transparency shown earlier. Within a few days, I discovered the truck we purchased was actually GAS, NOT DIESEL. The exact opposite of what we had clearly asked for from the start. When I called the dealership to address the mistake, their response was shockingly unprofessional: "What's the difference?" That alone tells you everything you need to know about their level of competence and customer care. The difference is huge! It mattered enough for us to make it clear from day one. I want to leave a very positive review for David Gonzalez (Sales & Leasing Specialist) at Gold Star Buick GMC in Salinas, CA. To be clear: I did NOT buy a car from David, but I'm writing this because of how he treated my wife and me. When I'm in the market again, David will be the first person I contact -- and I recommend others do the same. My wife and I drove 106 miles to see a used 2022 Honda Pilot after being told it was still available and that we should come in for a test drive. We even texted updates on our arrival time and asked if a manager could be available to help expedite things when we got there. When we arrived, the original salesperson was tied up and introduced us to David to help. David was friendly, engaging, and thoughtful, and as we walked to the vehicle he made us feel welcomed. Unfortunately, before we could even properly look the car over, a manager came out and told us the vehicle had already been sold. That was disappointing after a two-hour drive. The policy was explained, but the tone started to feel more like a lecture than customer care -- so we decided to politely disengage and head back to our car. This is where David truly stood out. David followed us, apologized sincerely, and said, "I want to make this right." He wasn't pushy at all -- just genuinely empathetic and solution-oriented. He offered to find the same vehicle in the same color, stayed in touch, and communicated proactively throughout the process. He texted updates without us having to chase him, responded quickly, and put in real effort over several days to try to acquire the right match. When the vehicle arrived, David immediately sent pictures. Unfortunately, it turned out not to be the color we wanted (and it's possible I mixed up the exact shade originally), so we didn't move forward -- but that doesn't change the point: David's professionalism, integrity, and follow-through were exceptional, especially considering the original issue wasn't even his fault. I purchased a very expensive BMW from this GMC dealership entirely online. Before moving forward, I specifically requested a full inspection, detailed pictures, and videos. They provided materials, and when I asked for additional confirmation, they had one of their lead supervisors, Josh send me a personal walk-through video assuring me everything was in excellent condition. The main disagreement I had prior to purchase was about the delivery process. I told the manager, Jesus Ortiz that I was willing to have the car shipped to me and would only finalize the purchase after seeing it in person and signing once I inspected it. I even offered to pay for return shipping myself if I decided not to move forward. His response was, "We don't do business like this," and he hung up on me. Later, someone else named Josh from the dealership called back and the process continued exactly how Jesus said it wouldn't. I ultimately relied on their representations and moved forward with the purchase. Within minutes of the car being delivered, I noticed a cracked portion of the bumper that had not been disclosed. I immediately notified Josh. He apologized and claimed they "didn't see it," which is difficult to believe. To their credit, they did pay to have the bumper repaired. However, there were also other dings and cosmetic imperfections that were never disclosed. About a month later, I received an urgent service notification through the BMW app regarding a lighting system issue. When I brought the vehicle in, I was informed that the windshield had previously been replaced and installed improperly. The rain and light sensors were either missing or not installed correctly, which caused system errors. None of this was disclosed at the time of sale. I had to pay over $1,000 out of pocket to correct these issues. Additionally, I was only provided with one key. This was never disclosed prior to purchase. Replacing a BMW key combined with the undisclosed damages to the vehicle made my unexpected post-purchase expenses well over $1,500. I reached out to Josh, the lead supervisor who had personally assured me the car was in excellent condition. I followed up three separate times regarding these issues and received no response. This was extremely disappointing and shows the type of customer service they provide after you make a big purchase through them. I was also told that all DMV paperwork had been submitted. I still have not received my license plates or registration, and my follow-up inquiries about this have gone unanswered as well. The vehicle was purchased over 2 and a half months ago. I understand that used vehicles may have cosmetic wear. What I do not accept is the lack of transparency, the failure to disclose significant issues that should have been identified in an inspection, and the complete lack of communication once the sale was finalized. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone considering purchasing a vehicle from this dealership especially when dealing with Jesus Ortiz and Josh. read more

The sales department was great, however I was beyond frustrated with the service department. Word of advice, review your visit summary before you leave, more specifically your incoming and outgoing mileage and case notes. If they dont match your visit ask the advisor to update it. If they dont want to update it email them in case you end up with a lemon like I did. They may not respond in electronic form whenever you point out something they don't like, but it will help you if you have to apply for lemon law. You'll have your side of the story recorded and eventually if it gets bad enough your claims will be harder to deny. read more

We stopped to look at SUVs and we just wanted to LOOK to see what budget we needed to plan. I didn't even get out of the car before 2 employees hurried out to greet us. One was a petite woman who started following us. I told her if we needed help we would ask. Yet she still followed us. Everytime I even looked at a vehicle, she would ask if we wanted her to get the keys. Like, NO. Again, I told her we were looking and I would ask if I needed help. Been a loyal customer for 10 years. The purchase process was typical. The service department has been on a gradual decline esoecially in thd past year and is now so poor they dont even meet their own process standards. They've created customer portals to check status, etc which is great but they have ZERO communication with the customer, perform checks but dont go over them before starting work, and upload the status reports 5 minutes before they leave without any notice to the customer . Tonight, my fourth call was on hold for 15 minutes so I used my friends phone and got through while the other remained on hold. I again called to find the status and was told they were gone and left my car for "late pick up" without ever letting me know. Its my only vehicle and I was dependent on their shuttle to get it. "Shuttle driver left an hour ago" was all I was told. Had to pay for an Uber to get my frigging car. Arrived and asked to speak to manager. I let him know he lost a customer and his service department has performed pathetically. He listened, apologized and assured me he was aware of and intends to address the poor customer service I and other customers have brought to his attention. He also explained that, coincidentally, the service department had a new manager about a year ago. That explained the rapid decline, but didnt excuse it. The manager comp'd the minimal service they had done and asked me to return when possible to address another issue caused by a previous service that they were "unable to duplicate" and dismissed today. The manager did right fixing the service departments issues but has a HUGE job ahead trying to get the current service crew to understand that customers arent there for them to ignore and dismiss, but are the reason they have jobs in the first place. So ... proceed with caution and prepare for bad service (for now). read more

I took my truck in for service, the "recommended" 30k mile service. it's a glorified, over-priced oil change. They did a "check-up" that i can do if i went under the car. Additionally, NONE of the fluids were refilled and one of my power steps was not working after the service. It is absolutely ridiculous how much these places charge. and worst part is that i bought the car there a few years back. Time to learn to do the oil change myself. read more

Hi, all, got a nice story for you. Last fall my wife and I rented a Chevy Bolt to go to a family affair in Pismo Beach. On the way home we ran out of charge and drove all over Salinas looking for a charging station. All were either OOS, wrong connector, or closed after 8 PM. We were about to get a hotel when we saw Gold Star Buick GMC on the freeway exit. Took a chance and stopped in to ask if we could use their charger. The night manager Nathan Zarate and his assitant Miguel were so nice and hooked us up to their super charger right away. In about 40 mins we were fully charged and back on our way. Nathan and Miguel were so nice and happy to help us. What wonderful people. I would trust buying any vehicle or service from this dealer, that's the kind of people you can rely on. read more

Buying a car here was quick and easy. Patrick was very courteous and sincere in helping me choose a car. The wait for the paperwork was very short All staff made me feel comfortable and welcomed One area in need of improvement is the detail department. The cars I test drove were not clean inside nor out. The car I purchased was given a quick wash and a very spotty dry job. The inside of the car was in need of vacuuming. The windows and chrome were left with water spots. Door jams, trunk and hood jams were not dried. I brought it up before getting into my new car but was told the kids that clean the cars usually don't do a good job and was handed an old red towel to dry up the car myself! Lol. Please teach your detail department how to clean and prepare a car before the new owner receives the keys. PS. Drove off with an only 1/4 tank of gas I know it's not a law to fill up the tank for the car buyer but it would make for a better send off!! read more

one of the worst service departments I've been too, my truck went in for a fuel pump light for about 5 weeks almost at the end of each week I always had to go down there and ask what the deal is. they have bad communication, you have to be on top of them if you would like to know your cars status. I took my car in there for repairs. They charged me approx. $200. When I was driving home it was in worse condition that when I brought it in and I barely made it home! Gold Star mechanic and J J told me the catalytic converter needed to be replaced, ($700.00 plus labor). ...I took my car to a private mechanic, he explained the catalytic converter was in good condition and only the engine coils needed to be replaced. I replaced the coils, problem solved, ($140). ...I went back to Gold Star dealership and requested a refund for making my car run worse and telling me to replace my catalytic converter. J J told me it's my tough luck and they won't reimburse anything. ...IT'S MY OPINION VEHICLES BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE ARE DELIBERATELY DAMAGED TO THEN CONVINCE YOU TO BUY ANOTHER CAR FROM THEM!!! Very horrible experience. I inquired about a car on Thursday, immediately was called by 3 different people. I reached back to one of them to set up a test drive. After we test drive the car, the GM is arguing with the sales guy helping me. Another associate comes up and states that I've been looking for a car for awhile - which was a weird statement as I just started looking. He then started asking what other sales people I've been talking to and interrogating me about who and when I've talked to them. I then showed him my phone to let him know I've only talked to one person. He then yells at the GM that "this lady just showed me timestamps of who she talked to!" All of this is happening right in front of me and they are arguing about who should help me IN FRONT OF ME. They then let me know another associate has said they've been in contact with me for a week. I had to state I have no idea who this person is. They then take me to another area and proceed to ask more questions and keep asking "okay well on the 19th you didn't inquire about this car?" Where to begin with this place. If you are planning to have service done in this place look else where. I live an hour away from Salinas but I bought my car here last year. I have come here for every oil change or concern I had over the car. 2 times before yesterday I had a concern over my breaks when I went to get my oil changed. I asked them to check the issue and notify me about any possible thing being done. They told me they were gonna check the breaker and charged me an extra $135. A month later my car started shaking again like the last time and was concerned about it. For my next oil change I asked them once again to check it and again charged me an extra $135. Just like the previous time never changed anything. I decided to go else where to get my brakes checked for them to notify me that my back break pads were super worn off and it was becoming dangerous. Come on Gold Star Buick how come you guys didn't catch that ? Now, yesterday was the cherry on top. As I said before I live an hour away. I went to get my oil changed and when I was coming back a light went on while I was on the freeway. I was 8 minuets away from home and it was notifying me I was low on oil ????? Like what ? I just came back from getting my oil changed. When I got home my motor had an ugly ticking sound. I called and asked what were they gonna do over their mistake. They send two people to add oil and check it out. One of the persons they send even said I was lucky the Motor didn't explode on the freeway. They checked and saw that there was no oil in the car. I asked for one thing and that was to take it back to get inspected. I was not gonna drive it after that tick in the engine. They ended up coming for the car after arguing with what seems to be one of the owners Ralf. Someone called me today not even 2 hours in after arriving and said that they fixed the issue "it seems like a part wasn't screwed right but they fixed it " like what ?? Didn't they fix that leaking the day before ? Now I'm sure my motor is not good anymore and it's a matter of time or pressure for it to start breaking down. They didn't open the motor for inspection. Horrible costumers service. Horrible management. Someone should really care for their costumers before they mess up someone's car and cause a serious injury or even worse a death. A good law suit should be coming your way for all the money you take and never doing your job correctly. I'm never coming here again. If you're thinking about this place. My parents came here to get me a reliable car. They helped me get a 2019 Nissan Sentra to only have a check engine light go on 1 month in. My dad thought it was just a fluke so he resets it. About a week later it comes on again and I take it to my mechanic who says it has a cracked Catalytic converter. How is this possible we paid $26,000 for this car and I called GMC to just be told nothing can be done on there end:( and to take it to Nissan on Stevens Creek every single worker there asked why the car sounds so loud and where did I get it from. They said this was not right at all. I was told I would have to pay $540 just to have them check the car and if not under warranty I'm basically screwed. No one at GMC had called me to fix this issue and the sales guy had not reached out to offer any help. They said they did a Gold Star inspection and it was perfect, all lies !!! How did my car break in 2 months this was broken when they sold it to my elderly parents that is a fact. If your looking for a reliable car save yourself and do not go here avoid it at all cost. I was disappointed with the service. We dropped off our truck for an oil change a couple of months ago. Out of nowhere the truck started pouring out oil. Luckily it was close to home. The vehicle was not drivable. We towed it to another dealership (it was over the weekend). They ended up telling us that they left the old oil filter gasket on and then put the new on on top. So eventually it popped off and the oil splattered all over the motor and the truck. I really do get that people make mistakes, and things happened but, it was eye opening when we notified them about it. We didn't even get an apology. I would have at least expected that, and maybe reimbursement since we got it fixed somewhere else. Maybe "next service is on us." Anyway, we can expect all we want. At the end of the day, not everyone does the right thing. Not good business. It's not like the service is cheap. Learned our lesson. read more
