Their famous short rib egg rolls were a bit burned on the outside so a bit dry on the inside. They did have a very good sauce served with them that pretty well covered the flaws. We also got the sweet potato corn bread. It was tasty, but fell apart just a little too easily. I had to eat it with a fork. The risotto that came with my duck leaned a little too far to the mushy side. The duck itself was really good. My niece had the salmon, and she had no complaints. She said she had the leftover last night as a sandwich and that it was delicious. Service was excellent. No notes.

Overall, a great meal at an equally great price. We were pleasantly surprised to walk out for under $65 without ordering drinks. Definitely felt like a great value, and we'd happily come back!

I got the Shorti Bowl, which is eggs and meat over cheese grits. It was good but I just wanted the cheese grits to commit a little harder to the cheese. The meat itself was good too, although it did feel a bit like a piece of meat had been plopped in the middle rather than everything really coming together as a dish. My husband got the sandwich with basically the same kind of meat, and somehow it was both a LOT of sandwich and not a lot of sandwich at the same time. It looked impressive as a Katz's-esque pile of meat, but once you actually got into it, it was mostly meat, bread and pickles. I kept expecting some sauce or another topping to show up and it just...didn't. Also a little unwieldy to eat, although I guess that's part of the territory when your sandwich is 70% meat. I think Lunch Supper sits in a funny middle ground between classic diner/brunch food and a more modern version of it. Nothing we had was bad, but for some of their more popular dishes I guess I expected a little more oomph if that makes sense (and yes I tried adding hot sauce). I'd still happily come back with friends, especially to sit outside. I just think I'd be coming back more for the vibes vs the food.

Main course, my boyfriend got the shrimp and grits which the shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly! It was cheesy and rich and a great flavor. I've been here a few times now, and every visit has been a good one. The happy hour menu has a great selection, the drinks are always on point, and the atmosphere is perfect for unwinding after work or catching up with friends. One of my favorite things about Burtons is how versatile it is. Whether you're stopping in for happy hour, grabbing dinner, meeting friends for drinks, or planning a date night, it's always a solid choice. The Carytown location is another plus, with plenty to do before or after your visit. Parking can be a little challenging depending on the time of day, but that's expected in such a popular area. There are several nearby garages and parking decks that make it manageable. If you're looking for a great happy hour in Richmond, I'd definitely recommend checking out Burtons!

Soon after we. Ordered the octopus and mussel appetizers a storm came in and the rain fell pretty hard. Our choices were to run back to the hotel or stay and dine huddled under an umbrella. Being a little wet with beverages and good food seemed the better option so we ordered more food. The octopus was great. I have tried it prepared many ways and here it was both tender and flavorful, really done well. Shrimp cocktail is usually pretty basic, but often the simplest dishes demonstrate the most skill. This is truly one of the best I have ever had. The shrimp were plump and flavorful. Their cooking stopped at just the right time leaving a slight bit of translucent hue, but still cooked through. Very nicely done. The salad with home ranch was dressed nicely and the dressing was light. The scallops were cooked well and perhaps my only criticism is that the corn purée was better in concept than execution. I can't say enough about the staff. We were two people on a Sunday night crazy enough to dine in a downpour. The staff never made us feel like they wanted to punch out, embraced us being outside and were creative in waiting on us with umbrellas to keep the food from getting wet. It would have been understandable for them to limit the trips to check on us, but they persevered and made us feel welcome. If you are in the area, highly recommended stopping by, rain or shine, and sampling their menu. Nicely done.

The restaurant is cozy, Hawaiian-themed, and clean. We were seated within moments of entering the host's periphery, and received menus and ice water within minutes. I had the poke bowl last time, and I remember it being chilled and gently flavored. The avocado and spicy mayo did a lot of the heavy lifting. It was filling and very healthy. My partner enjoyed the Ipanema Sandwich last time we visited. This time around we snacked on the fried halloumi (fried cheese and mint yogurt dip) and Lumpia, taquito-type beef rolls, with sweet and sour dip. We absolutely demolished the coconut cream pie for dessert. The pie was so delicate and lovely that even my partner enjoyed it, a typical coconut detractor. I recommend Little Nickel to anyone looking to try something unique and ambitious that veers from the well-trodden culinary path. The staff here were courteous and helpful, the restaurant was clean, and the food was firing on all cylinders.

I'd come back for the drinks, ambiance and maybe appetizers but not a fan of the actual entrees.

I couldn't reach anyone, so I left a voicemail, sent an email, and sent a social media message. After several more calls the next day, I finally reached someone, explained the situation, and was told my reservation was cancelled and I was "all set." The following day, I found a $50 cancellation charge on my credit card. I understand the posted policy is subject to a $25-per-person charge for cancellations less than one day in advance. In my 40 years, including 7 years working in the restaurant industry, I've made plenty of reservations secured with a credit card and have never had an experience like this after speaking directly with a restaurant to cancel. It was extremely misleading to tell me I was "all set" without the restaurant mentioning during that conversation that the $50 fee would still apply. Had I known, I would have tried to find two other people to use the reservation. I raised this with the manager, who gave me no grace given the circumstances. She repeatedly referred to the cancellation policy and told me their staff aren't trained to remind customers about the fee when cancelling a reservation. This was a 5 PM reservation on a Tuesday, right when the restaurant opens... not a weekend, holiday, or peak dinner hour. I made repeated attempts to give notice, and I expected cancelling to be easy and straightforward. Instead, I feel cheated by how the conversation and charge were handled. Future customers should be WARNED that being told your reservation is cancelled and you're "all set" stills means a cancellation fee is coming. BEWARE before making a reservation. I'm asking L'Opossum to refund the full $50 given these circumstances. If they do, I'll gladly update this review to reflect how the issue was resolved. Until then, I won't be dining at L'Opossum or recommending it.

Every bite was cooked to perfection and left us excited for the next course. My spouse had the Bone-In Pork Rib Chop with roasted peaches, haricot verts, roasted poblano cornbread, and pickled peach mustard. This dish was absolutely phenomenal.
