I usually get the Gloss Pedicure and it's always great but it had been a while since I went, and this last time it was disappointing. The Gloss Nail Bar on Erin Way, is clean, professional, and all staff members are friendly and efficient, however, Jake is the man when it comes to perfect dip nails! I like having dedicated appt times so I don't have to wait. They have a great variety of colors and pedicure options. My new favorite fall neutral color is "Destined to be a Legend" (OPI #173). A suggestion might be - I rarely take advantage of the "included beverage", since I usually have my Yeti with me. Maybe, it would be a nice perk for regular customers (who don't get beverage) - to have an option for an included "soak off" (or just another nominal benefit or perk), in lieu of the included beverage. I have never had a worse experience with a nail job than at this location. Upon entering, I was first greeted by a lovely, "Hi, welcome in!" Then, after waiting about 3 minutes for someone to come see me, I finished my sign-in to face an abrupt, "What do you need?!" by the nail tech who would be my technician. I was immediately turned off, but I wanted to give her a chance. During my visit at her chair, she was so rough with my feet that my right big toe was cut. 5 days in, one of my fingernails broke. I thought nothing of it, as I work a hands-on job. I went back to the salon on day 6, and they saw me right away. To my dismay, the tech, who happened to be the same woman, picked a color that did not even match my set, asking, "oh, but you can't really tell in the light, huh?" after I brought it to her attention. By then, the nail was already glued, polished, and treated by the light. I was shocked she would not go the extra mile to find the right color for me. I know I would have. The most frustrating part of the whole experience is that the same nail just broke AGAIN, and this time, I was simply taking a picture off the wall to dust. I couldn't believe it. I just got the nail fixed 5 days ago. Never in my life have I had a worse dip manicure than this. Other salons have my nails lasting for well into/a little past a month, but this is day 11! Update 10/24/21: I wanted to take the time to update Gloss Nail Bar review that I left about my experience on 10/17/21. I returned and let them know my issues from my experience (see previous review) and they quickly were able to get me seen. They redid all my nails, and everything is perfect. No missed spaces, no debris left in my nails creating uneven bumps. I'm not sure what caused my nails to lift 3 days after service, but I am sure that this time around it won't happen. If you ever have any issues, Gloss Nail Bar is making sure to accommodate you, and this is why my review has changed! They really care about your experience, and they have a 7-day guarantee, which I didn't know about until I updated my review about the flaking. I've been going to Gloss for over a year... get pedicures and regular manicures. I was told today that I don't get a glass of champagne because I only got a manicure. I've NEVER been told that. And honestly feel like I'm being punished for having naturally long nails (pic attached); like I'm a less than customer. A woman left while I was here disappointed after soaking for 15 min with no engagement. The employees were gathered up front, one cussing in front of customers. I gave this place one star about a year and a half ago, but gave it another chance today. Not only was I greeted so kindly and cheerfully by the owner , I was sat right away . While I did have to wait a bit for a nail tech ( it's busy on a Sunday) they started my shellac soak off instantly . By the time there was a nail tech available my shellac came right off, so actually I did not sit there any longer than I normally would have with shellac . Usually at other nail bars they scrape and scrape it off but since they let me sit a while here the shellac just came right off without them damaging my nails and scraping them. My dip was so horrible a year and a half ago but today it's wonderful! Vinny was so sweet and truly cared about the exact way I wanted things . I like this spot..... for pedicures. Like any other service salon, I'm sure it just depends on your technician. I've had several pedicures here and have always been satisfied. However, I got a manicure here just over a week ago for the first time and was realllly disappointed. Tommy did not listen when I said I wanted short nails, then he did a crappy job on the polish. Since it was shellac, I'd hoped he would take his time and make it look decent but the polish was inconsistent in layers and on my cuticle, leading to peeling polish LESS then a week later. So, either avoid manis or avoid them with Tommy. Oh, and if you're of age get a drink, but remember your ID! They are sticklers for it. read more

Went for regular pedicure and manicure/dip and ended up having the worst experience at a nail salon I've ever had. The girl doing my nails was nice but so rushed and lazy. She barely scrubbed my heels and left polish on my skin after the pedicure. She cut several of my fingers while doing my manicure (no apology from her) and overall just left my fingers looking terrible. I'm unfortunately a people pleaser and did not say anything while i was there. I even left a tip which was a mistake. There are plenty of nail salons in the area. My friend and I booked together for a pedi. We have very stressful lives and we're looking forward to a relaxing morning. The two women doing our expensive pedis talked to each other nonstop, looking at each other more than the work they were doing. This is the absolute worst experience I've ever had getting a nail service. What's worse, I had recommended this place to my friend. Apparently someone told them to stop all the talking when they left together to get the paraffin, because both were sullen, quiet, and angry from that point on. I'm retired from the service industry. Update! The pictures posted with this review was a couple of months ago. My recent visit was regarding the post and I see a lot of return regular visit post and so WAS I but no longer. I had an appointment and Christina called in sick and I was immediately told 'and she will not be in the next day' so okay after coming Thursday no appt to Friday with no appointment. Christina did my nails last time and they were great! She asked her sister to do them and they just okay. Why? Because I expressed that she leave the shape as is and she rounds it abit more than I like and I spoke up! You hate to nit pick but I am paying AND I said just like they currently are, squared. Also, I love yellow and they have an amazing yellow I get ALL THE TIME but for some reason they hate doing it! Take the color out of rotation if it is going to cause this much grief! Samantha use to do them and the photos posted was her last time on my nails! I wasn't coming back after that but I like this place, the people, the service and the drinks! This place is the first place I tried in Memphis - nothing special. I was able to get in really quickly when I walked in during the morning. But the mani/pedi was nothing exceptional for the price I paid, which is outrageously high. I even ordered the pedicure that costs $15 more for the hot rocks and sugar scrub and such just to find out as she was painting my toes that they no longer do the hot rocks? Wish I had just gotten the basic one. It also cost another $15 more for a very basic design on a few fingers and I was told I was being cut a deal. The towel and foot soak were scalding hot and my fingers bled while my cuticles were being trimmed. The staff was friendly but the paint job was sloppy and I wasn't impressed with the cleaning procedures or social distancing. read more

I'm 39 weeks pregnant and went in for a pedicure because my feet hurt so bad. I choose the "ultimate pedicure" because on the menu it said it was heavy on the message. This guy spent the whole time on my calves and barley even touched my feet! I have horrible callouses on my heels that he completely ignored until I said something. I can't bring myself not to tip someone giving me a service but in retrospect I wish I hadn't . The whole thing with tip was around $70 and I didn't get the much needed foot rub I came in for. The staff attitude of the staff is horrible and the poor hostess/manger is always confused when you come to him about a problem or concern. He stood next to the nail tech yelling at customers after she messed up her nails and customers came to him to voice their concern. I'll start with the positive things even though I probably won't ever come back: -They have a host up front to greet people -huge selection -very clean -complimentary beverages including coffee, mixed drinks, etc. -Emily is the only reason I'd ever return here. Always friendly, professional, and good at her job. The owner is also nice. Cons? I had a design done with SNS dip that the owner said they could pull off. They did and I liked it. Nails started popping off after 5 days. So I came in for a repair. -I was told by the technician that repaired 2 of my nails that it probably came off because of my design and she thinks a solid color looks better than my design anyways. It wasn't said in a nice way either. Thanks for your opinion, but I didn't ask. -A few days later I came in for another repair because 6 more nails had come off after only 9 days. It's supposed to last two weeks. The host asked me how long it had been, I told her. She went away and came back to tell me I was wrong and it had been longer than two weeks. Really? You're going to tell a customer they're lying? When I can prove the date via my receipt and bank statement? I had to argue to get someone to fix my nails. Never got an apology. I'm not dealing with this every time I need a repair because the manicure didn't last. Perhaps require a receipt from a customer before telling them they're lying. We came by on a Sunday afternoon for a shellac manicure and were quickly whisked away to comfy chairs to pick out our colors. After looking through the colors and asked for recommendations I ended up going for the SNS dip. While quite pricey ($45) I decided to give a try. The process was pretty quick, made more pleasant by free mimosas. Unlike shellac it didn't require UV lights. It definitely made my nails feel a lot harder, but soft nails aren't a problem of mine so that's not a + or - for me. The trust test will be how many weeks I get out of this manicure! read more

Really disappointed. After waiting 40 minutes as a walk in, I just left Gloss after getting an Ultimate pedicure and gel manicure, $123.00 with tip, and I am not pleased. I travel for work, so I'm in many different cities, and I've experienced many different levels of nail salons. That being said, my ultimate pedicure was far from it. Feet are not smooth and nice like my usual pedicures, and my manicure also left my nails jaggedy. I told Tommy multiple times that there were issues with the nails, but nothing was done. Also, I noted that I did NOT want to soak nails, but he told me I HAD to--that is not ok. I'm disappointed, as I work in Memphis 100 days out of the year. :( Two stars because of the 2 free beverages--you'll need to ask for the second, though, as it was not offered. read more
