Yelp asks, "What could improve?" Everything- from lack of hospitality to insane upcharging and nickel and diming. I had only been here once last year and thought the tech then didn't seem overly friendly, but chalked it up to her not knowing me. I returned yesterday out of convenience, which was my mistake. Had I visited Yelp first, I wouldn't have ever visited this business. The entire appointment felt rushed. When I sat in the pedicure chair, I noticed a dirty straw that clearly had sticky residue on it lying on the arm rest table, which made me question how well they clean and sanitize, but I dismissed thinking maybe it was overlooked. I got a toe polish change and fill in and was in and out in less than an hour and a half. I had implied on arrival that I wanted the gel on my toes soaked off only to have them be drilled anyway. The girl showed up with a suitcase of tools, did the work, and hurriedly escaped to her next client, leaving me feel like I was in the Atlanta airport. I asked how tip would be split since I was paying with card and would have two techs for hands and nails and she promptly told me I could only tip via Venmo or cash. Most places do this to avoid the fees from credit cards, but I was charged that fee anyway- also without being forewarned, which businesses in TN are supposed to disclose and this salon did not. I have never been told I can't use a card to tip. It felt very strange and unprofessional. The next tech hurriedly arrived, rushed through doing my hands. I already had a nice shape to my nails, but did need them shortened. I was charged for both a cut down and a reshape. Huh? They were already in the shape. So, you effectively charged me $10 to shorten my nails. Ridiculous. I was also charged to remove the gel from my toes for $5, $36 for the gel polish change, and $10 to put acrylic on two toes where the nails were splitting - over $50 for gel on toes and didn't even get pedicure service. Perhaps this salon would do better to inform of all the miscellaneous fees. $123 before tip for not even getting a full set nor a pedicure is highway robbery. Way too much nickel and diming going on here. I've been to many salons in the last year from travel and none left me feeling as unwelcome and taken advantage of as this one. I'm shocked they didn't charge me for the plastic cup they served my water in! I walked out and it felt like they didn't care if I walked out and never returned. Not the way to do business when there are as many nail salons in the entire block from Poplar to Mendenhall, Sanderlin and White Station. The only positive I can give is that they have a large selection of nail colors and brands- but you can quite literally go to Gloss and get a comparable selection, which is where I should have gone to begin with. read more

I visited for the first time yesterday as walk in for a very simple manicure and toe polish change and will never go back. The first thing I noticed was that there was no seated waiting area, so you can kind of just stand around until a technician is available. I went on a busy day, so you can imagine how cluttered it was near the entrance. My toe polish change turned out fine. However my manicure was an absolute disaster from beginning to end. The nail technician put my hand in a bowl of warm water for maybe 10 seconds before he aggressively tried to scrape up my cuticles that had obviously not softened yet. He then proceeded to clip them and had them bleeding. The entire job was rushed and somehow my cuticles look worse after my manicure than before I came into this establishment. DISAPPOINTED AND INJURED! I booked a spa day for four, including my elderly mother and terminally ill aunt, and explained their health issues in advance. The top-tier pedicure lasted under 30 minutes, and manicures were done at pedicure stations due to lack of space. During my manicure, scalding water from a steam device burned my hand. I told the technician it was burning, but the service continued. The burn later proved to be much more severe than I realized. Additionally, my nail chipped the very next day. The total cost was over $650 for less than an hour of services. I was publicly pressured to Venmo a tip in front of other clients, which was uncomfortable and unprofessional. We were rushed out without time for nails to dry, sent into cold weather in disposable flip flops. We were rushed through the services; I explained my circumstances both on the phone and upon arrival that I wanted to provide a memorable spa experience (for which I was willing to pay). Check your bill. They tried to double charge to remove my dip. At first would not refund and offered a gift card. Finally agreed to refund but rounded down to the nearest dollar instead of the whole charge. Then shoved the receipt in my face mid manicure to sign as the tech is applying my polish. Would not leave until I signed with wet nails mid manicure. And no drinks offered. Worst manicure experience. Tons of choices in town. Won't be going back. read more

Love this places ambience and private pedicure area. But these add-on prices are getting ridiculous. I should not have to spend 80 dollars for the most basic option pedicure, just because i get french and gel, especially considering the how quick they try to get it done and skipping steps. I went in after this place was recommended to me for an overlay fill in. I feel like at most nail places you feel pressured into getting gel which is one thing but not only the lady doing my nails tried pressuring me into getting gel, she had another coworker join in where they implied in front of others that I couldn't afford it, which was not the case. They put a much darker color on my nails and after only 2 days they were chipping so badly I had to go somewhere else and get them redone. Won't be back. read more

During my gel manicure, I asked for my nails to be cut shorter and round. The technician said I should do almond, since my nails were already that shape, so I obliged after going back and forth with her. When checking out, she charged me $5 for "nail reshaping". Showed her a picture of what I wanted and she said it would be roughly 100 dollars to do.. no. She offered me a different option to save some money, so I took that. But she still knew that I wanted a French with a shimmer over the top. She did ONE coat of a shimmer and then started putting the cuticle oil on. I never speak up and actually had the courage to ask if she was still going to do the French and she said "no, I'm done". I am new to the Memphis area and looking for a new nail salon and found them on TikTok as highly recommended. I will preface this by saying this is my second time coming in the past 2 weeks. The first time i came i was very impressed so i decided to come back. In my opinion, the service i asked for was pretty simple. I wanted dip with a tip and chrome. The technician that did my nails was an older woman and i believe there was a language barrier between the two of us and i never want to be seen as disrespectful to another's culture. My nails were very bulky and there was one nail in particular that was crooked. There was a gentleman walking around who attempted to shape them and made them look less bulky but now they just look janky. As someone who works in the service industry, i try not to complain or make someone's job hard which often times leave me dissatisfied. I think that i will try them again but maybe get something less complicated per se. On a positive note, the salon is nice and the people working are friendly! read more

I started going here about a year ago and when I moved back I decided to patronize them again. I get regular polish now because gel damages my nails too bad. I came in on a Thursday because I had a job interview. During the service I noticed that they were short staffed, they did not sanitize after each client like they did last year. Also note that I cannot get the same person, they say the person no longer works here. The next day before my interview the polish chipped or came completely off so during my interview I spent a lot of time hiding my hands. My cuticles are also split and peeling because he snipped my cuticle when I asked him not yo do that he used the drill and they still peeled. I called Artisan and gave them my number, they told me to come back with 7 days. I went back the following Thursday and was told that I would have to pay to have them redone. I explained that I called she just said the policy does not cover regular polish and I told her I do not live close and would not have come all the way back here, unless I was told they would cover it. Just be aware of their policy, they do not guarantee regular nail polish services. I am not a complainer and I believe they should have better customer service but now I understand why they have a high turnover rate and why their business is slow. I went in for a full gel x set and a manicure ($85). There was so much excess gel used to adhere the tips to my natural nail that when it cured, I got minor burns where the gel media was in contact with my skin under the nail. There was a massive, approximately pea-sized ball of leftover gel that was cured to the underside of my dominant thumb that I had to dig out with a nail tool at home because it was causing pain and limiting the function of that thumb. When this first placed open I was so excited, however in just a couple of months is has gone way down hill. While the space itself is nice, the staff seems to feel that you the customer are an inconvenience. They claim to take walk-ins but don't, they will have you come back later in the day but you have to pay a deposit of $30 to claim the spot. Same if you make an appointment in the first place. On top of this, the place is never even half full. Even still, they are never ready on time and spend more time laughing in the back than they do on your service. It's so disappointing! read more
