We buy all our cat/ dog food here and have been for years. The staff are excellent and very helpful with our questions about the best care for our pets. I recently inquired about dog chews for keeping my big boys teeth clean and received a lovely gift bag with a couple different products inside. I was really surprised. I didn't expect that. Going to get food is something my dog loves doing because he loves it there. He has a little visit with the staff and the cats and French bulldog that are usually around. Alright, I'm not trying to be a stick in the mud or whatever, but you would think with a name called "Global Pet Foods" that they would have a large variety of pet food for different types of pets. If you go to their website they say they have food for lots of animals: cats, reptiles, dogs, birds, fish, small animals and rodents... but when you actually go I would say that they mostly have food for cats, dogs, and birds. For birds all I noticed was Armstrong and Sunseed, nothing else in store. I'm just super hung up on the name right now because I don't think a place should be called "Global" if it only caters to the common animals. No rats or worms! This place is not reptile friendly at all. I was kind of miffed because I live down the street so it would have been cool if it was. The staff seemed really confused when I asked about the reptile section... they said they don't really carry that stuff. This is when I got hung up on the name. I also just don't find their prices to be competitive at all. If anything it is on the expensive side. Greenies, for example, are almost $2 more expensive here than they are at Petland. This is why I don't really find this place to be anything special. They do have a bomb selection of animal clothing though. So I bought a winter jacket for my naked cat. Under new management, Adam and his staff are friendly, helpful beyond words. Prices are good and selection is great. Locally owned and owner-operated, we've never had such great experiences in pet supplies stores before. Our new pup, #Bandit, loves it there. We are so impressed with this store for our cats and dog that Global Pet Foods has earned a loyal customer! I've read the other reviews and have never had any bad experiences here. They are GREAT, knowledgeable, and have everything we need for our cats and dog (can't comment about other animals though). parking at back of building or on the street. read more

This store is tiny and cramped, and even in the midst of pandemic, (2020-03-22) when people are dying around the world, they decided to continue holding pet nail trimming for two hours. That's far from an Essential Service, and encourages concentrations of people that would make it impossible to maintain proper distance. When I called to ask about it they said it wasn't a big deal. Every time I come here I am impressed! Amazing, caring and well-informed staff!!! I've been having an issue with my pet and an auto immune disorder and have trying to find a prescription diet that works. After a lot of malarkey at clinic's I ended up coming here and was pointed in the right direction by a staff member who's pet has a similar issue. Since I switched his food to the one recommended by the staff, my furry friend has been happier, healthier, lost weight, and now wakes me up every day at 6 AM because it's time to eat and he loves the food! It's nice to have a neighbourhood pet store in Oliver, and my puppy is definitely a fan. The prices are comparable to PetSmart, and they have a wide variety of higher-ended dog food, treats and accessories. I can usually find what I need at Global Pet Foods, and I can avoid the stress of too much stuff to choose from at PetSmart. The staff at Global is very friendly, always kind to my puppy, and letting me know about new products that they'll be getting in. They also made a great recommendation for a doggy day care, which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, there have been a few times when I've asked about certain products and they weren't able to guide me to their location in the store, but after looking I ended up finding them on my own accord. read more

A great go-to place for some of your pet needs. Prices aren't bad, staff are friendly but don't know much about pet care products. My beef is the owners, they are incredibly pushy to the point I almost left. I know you want to make a buck but if I say I'm fine, then I'm fine!! I shop here b/c its local but I still have to shop elsewhere at times as there food selection isn't that great for fussy eaters or puppies. So my score is moderate as a result. read more

Never shopping here again! Every time I go, the only employee is on a personal call. This is the only time she offered me help and she was very misinformed and rude. I asked her to show me where the weight loss cat foods were and first she just stared at me blankly and then asked why. Really? Why do you think? Then she tried to tell me that formulas high in protein would help my cat lose weight, when it is actually foods high in FIBRE that help keep animals feeling fuller for longer so they don't need to eat as much, therefore helping them lose weight. Foods high in protein would make my cat GAIN weight, not lose it. When I attempted to tell her this she rolled her eyes and said "Well. As far as I'M concerned it's a high protein diet that helps kitties lose weight." She then went on to tell me that cats really should be only on wet cat food, which is also untrue. While a wet food is an important part of the diet it is absolutely acceptable to feed a mix of dry and wet food. I also attempted to tell her this and she again told me she knows better despite my education in the animal health field. She also decided it was important to tell me that quality pet food should not contain any by-products or ingredients like soybean meal and no grains, but these ingredients are actually an excellent source of essential amino acids and grains provide many important carbohydrates. Staff are very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Product selection and quality is high. My cat has never liked any toys I've bought anywhere else and he's not normally into catnip, but I've gotten toys and catnip from here that he has gone crazy for. The Odour Buster once-a-week cat litter they stock is by far the best litter I've ever purchased, for similar price to other brands. Overall it's a great pet food/accessory store. Only thing is, if you want cheap junk food for cats (Meow Mix, etc) you won't find it here; they just stock the higher quality (and more expensive) stuff. read more

I don't come here too often because I am a regular at a competitor, however once in a while I stop in on my daily walks with the fur kid. My little one loves coming in here! Maybe it's because of the attention she gets or the massive amounts of treats the shop owner gives her! The treat and food selection is high quality and the selection is far better than your average big box store. All in all it is a great store which is locally owned and opperated. Service is great and the knowledge of the staff is above average. read more

What a cute little downtown pet shop :) having lived in other cities where you could walk right down Main Street downtown and stop into cute pet shops, I was delighted to find one right on jasper! It's not super boutique feel but it's small and intimidate enough. I'm not sure if it's a chain but they carry great brands such as Acana. Their prices are average considering its location and although it is smaller, it carries lots of options. I love stopping by on our walks around the neighbourhood and my puppy loves coming here! I would probably get more if I wasn't always walking to this location as I don't fancy carrying 20lbs of kibble or cat litter around the neighbourhood. I will most definitely be back again!! read more

I have been shopping at this location for two years or so and am always pleased with the customer service and selection. I buy Natural Balance Limited Ingredient, which is not often stocked at some pet food stores. The price is not bad; $20 for the particular flavour my dog eats vs. $22 at the Pet Valu in Westmount vs. $17 at G&E Pharmacy on the south side. I shop here because the location is great and the service is friendly. However, I was disappointed by my most recent experience at this location. I received a gift certificate as a prize for a recent fundraising effort. The certificate stated it must be used before the end of 2015 so I made sure to start using it before the end of the year. The lady who helped me said the balance would remain on my account. She said nothing about the BALANCE expiring. It's difficult to spend $150 all in one go (I have a small dog) so I assumed I could come back and use the rest later, which I did. During my second visit I used more of the balance but was never informed that the remaining balance would expire. When I visited in the new year to use the remainder of the balance, I was told that the balance had expired once the year turned over. I asked why, and it was explained that 'they had to put an expiration date on it'. When I told them I'd brought the certificate in prior to 2016 and was never told about the remaining balance expiring, I didn't really receive a solid answer. The man I spoke with also told me I had 'five months' to use the card. This is not true - the event was September 19th and I did not receive the certificate until the end of September. That's closer to three months than five. Had I been told the BALANCE would expire, I would have made sure to use it before the year's end. The man (the owner, I assume?) was not unkind in his response but was certainly not empathetic nor were his answers rooted in good business practice and a customer focus. I've worked in customer service and retail for the better part of 15 years. I've learned that businesses have nothing to gain from being selfish and miserly and alienating their loyal customers as a result. Global Pet Foods would have received a tax receipt for their donation and therefore gains from donating. I don't understand what they gain from withholding the remainder of the gift card with restrictive expiration dates and lack of transparency overall. I'm so disappointed and cannot shop here again as a result. I'm glad to see that the majority of the reviews have been positive and Global Pet Foods will likely not suffer as a result of what I hope is an isolated incident of selfishness and bad business practice. ***After posting this review, I was informed that, in Alberta, it is illegal for gift cards or gift certificates to have expiration dates. I used to really enjoy this neighbourhood pet store. The staff are friendly and helpful. However some cat treats made my little guy very sick and they had no record of my 2019 purchases on my account, which sucks because I wasn't earning credits to the food loyalty purchase program. I called twice waiting for a manager to get back to me so we could work out both issues but she wasn't receptive the messages her staff were leaving for me. The worker even showed me the message she wrote down in the log. Guess I'll find another pet store to shop at now if management can't take the time to call their customers back. read more

I like shopping here because the owner and staff are all very knowledgable about their products. They take the time to explain things to you and never pressure you to buy anything. They carry a wide range of nutrition for dogs and cats. And every time I've shopped there, they are always quick to give me samples to try out! I really like to support local and Canadian companies. There is a good selection and the prices are quite reasonable. The only complaint I would have is that the staff can be a bit aloof and standoffish. Not rude, but not really engaging, like they wish they were somewhere else and want you to go away. You don't have to hug me and give me a teddy bear. Just make me feel welcome. Maybe try to cross-sell me something, for crying out loud. You might as well enjoy yourselves at work, and maybe show some initiative? Could just be a lack of team leadership. read more
