I prefer this store to Pet Smart on so many levels. Their service is better. Staff is helpful and friendly, and they'll engrave your pet tags for you. I believe they also do grooming in the back, but I haven't used them yet. Price and selection of foods seems to be better. This is another service I don't need as much, but it's nice to find the furchildren nice little goodies like Turducken wet food. What I appreciate them most about this place is the quality and price of their merchandise. I noticed the price of their cat trees have gone up, but they are still far superior to Pet Smart. Pet smart 'stack' their levels, where as the ones you buy here are 'staggered'. They sell buckle and better breakaway collars for less, with no stupid bells on them. Great location and selection of safe pet treats and food. Everything here has no byproducts or chemical preservatives so it's nice to not see brands like Purina or hills science diet on the shelves. This is a wonderful chain of pet stores that doesn't sell live animals. They support rescues and our local Pet Food Bank. They have grooming services available (call first!) and they also have a dental hygienist that comes in and does anesthetic-free teeth cleening a few times per year. They have a great selection for such a small store. I go here for a special food for my allergic pup that not a lot of the pet stores carry. They have a program based on your phone number where you buy 12 bags and get one free. The staff has always been friendly and knowledgeable. Easy to access, free parking in the mall lot. read more

Pet Planet is a nicely stocked pet store that sells dog and cat food, treats, toys, pet fashions, grooming supplies and many, many more products. I love that Pet Planet is a chain of franchises owned by local people, and not a multi-million dollar pet store giant. I will take Pet Planet over Pet Smart any day of the week. The selection of products is great! Most of dog and cat food is natural and organic. Dogs whose owners shop at Pet Planet are especially lucky because this store carries amazing dog treats, both pre-packed and in bulk. In fact, I think that the selection of products for dogs is bigger than for cats. Prices are a bit higher than at Pet Smart and PJ Pets. I will knock one star off because customer service is not particularly great. I am never greeted or offered any assistance. read more

I've been in Pet Planet only a couple of times. We recently moved to Edmonton from Toronto, where we treat our pets like our children. We have a french bulldog/boston terrier mix who is suffering from allergic reactions. Thankfully we found a limited ingredient brand at Pet Planet. We bought a small bag anf she loved it so I later returned to buy the much larger bag. I've obviously seen bigger stores however I have also seen much smaller, when it comes to size and stock. I will continue going to Pet Planet because its local (right down the street) and its not to expensive The employees are typical employees. Sometimes friendly and helpful, other times they are busy and dont have time to wait on me hand and foot. I enjoy walking into a store and not being bombarded by staff. read more

Pet Planet is fantastic. Not only do they carry the food that I buy for my cats (Wellness), but the people who work at the store are generally friendly and helpful. And they stay open until 9PM on weekdays. Prices aren't quite as inexpensive as Bosley's back in BC, but they are better than Tail Blazers. read more

Love the wide selections of cat treats here!! I found some new brands/flavours here on my recent first time visit and the kitties LOVE them - borderline obsessive. I Also noticed some really awesome looking cat trees - like super tall and tree-y - that were very reasonably priced. Priced below what I would normally see at the other pet stores in town and (based on the good old reliable wiggle test) they seemed actually very sturdy! I have found similarly priced cat trees that don't appear as though they would be able to stand up at all to my two crazy cats jumping and bouncing and launching themselves onto and off of it! Good selection of cat toys and friendly staff - I think I may be around a little more often after the reaction I got from the cats over those treats!! read more

Pet Planet is a wonderful chain committed to staying out of live animal sales and encouraging the adoption of rescue animals instead. That alone makes it at least a three star review in my book. When you also take into account the fact that their prices are reasonable and the staff are quite friendly it adds up to an above average experience. My only real issue here was with the almost non existent supplies available for smaller critters. We recently purchased a bunny and came in for treats and toys but they only had one brand of treat available in two flavors and absolutely zero toys for my baby girl. For cats and dogs I think these guys are great and when I need more treats I will be back as it is walking distance from my house. I will likely be hitting up another location or checking out Amazon for toys however. Dear Pet Planet little ones want to play too! read more

Location, location, location. Im a Southie so this location sucks, but like all the Southies we make an occasional trip to West Edmonton. If in the neighbourhood check it out. The store itself is kind of small, caters to dogs more than cats. Why isn't there a specific cat store in town? and next why is a guy, me, talking about cats? Weird eh. OK about the store. one thing that really impressed me was the cat trees, cats again, they were really tall and cheap comparably. It might be super corporate, but at least they have more than one choice for each item. I agree with everyone that Pet Planet is a great chain that is known for their animal advocacy, fundraising, and support of rescues and the "adopt don't shop" moral code. This store on Stoney plain road and 149 st in Edmonton was royally disappointing though - the conversation I over heard with the store owner upset me enough that I won't go back! The store owner was absolutely delighted to see a customer was wearing seal skin gloves. After ranting and raving about the customer's gloves and then going into great detail about how you can buy seal skin everywhere in NewFoundland and how there are pelts hanging everywhere, I was sickened! The Canadian seal slaughter is ABSOLUTELY BARBARIC AND HORRIFIC! It is a huge controversial issue and frankly...their conversation made me sick to my stomach! I am hating myself even more because I should have put BOTH women in their place! Seriously! FUR is not cool anymore and anyone who is any kind of animal advocate knows this! I wandered into this store one day looking for new food for my cat, and by the time I left, they had convinced me to switch from commercial (Blue Buffalo) food to a non-commercial brand they carry. I thought non-commercial food would be more expensive but it's actually quite a bit cheaper, which was not my main concern but is nice nonetheless. I like that they carry so many natural and organic food and treat options for cats and dogs, and the staff seem to be well-versed in animal nutrition. I also appreciate that the staff are helpful and give me space to shop without being standoffish; there is little that bugs me more than being bombarded and followed around by staff when I'm shopping. They have a massive selection on cat foods, wet or dry, they have what seems to be all of the good brands with none of the bad. This comment concerns the Pet Planet Namao Center location Lack of customer service has caused me to take my business elsewhere. Put in a biweekly order for canned dog food many months ago. To say delivery of said order has been erratic is an understatement. Months will go by without my delivery or even a phone call to explain why the product is not there. However, I would stop by the store in the interim and, surprise surprise, find my delivery had been placed on the shelves. Often. I was assured that this was due to "new staff" and that the issue had been corrected. Well, this morning, after waiting several months for a biweekly order, I was told that 1/4 of one weekly order is in. I think I just will not bother.
