I got a puppy about a month ago and have ordered from Homes Alive Pets a couple of times online and just this weekend in person. The store is well lit, spacious, has a water station if you're bringing along a furry friend and there were enough salespeople on the floor for it to be easy to find someone to help me locate items. If you shop online and live in Alberta shipping is free, over $100 I believe, and they ship out items within a couple of days with only 1-2 day shipping speed. The prices are the same or better than other pet stores or Amazon and I'd rather shop local where I can. I was having trouble finding a two door crate with a divider online with other retailers, but I was able to find one at Homes Alive Pets. I do note that what's available online is a little different than what's in store, so I'm glad I went in store because my pup has now found a little dragon chew/rope/squeaky toy that she goes absolutely crazy for that I wouldn't have known existed if I didn't go into this location. read more

There are plenty of pet stores all over Edmonton.. then there is this one. Homes Alive Pets. Although the location is on Gateway Blvd ( south direction ) , it is a bit trickier to get to if going North/ But it is so worth it. This store is well lit, clean and well stocked of everything you could possibly be looking for. Even the bathrooms are spotless . Split into two sections, dog food and supplies on the left, cat food and supplies on the right. When it comes to food, this store has a lot of product. My girlfriend's cats love the NG product ( Italian ) whereas the dogs prefer Acana food. And there are tons of chew toys and animal " snacks ". Yes you can bring your dog or cat inside with you ( and there is nothing funnier than seeing a dog go directly to the treats and help themselves - more $$ in the till ). One thing is staffing though. There are one or two at the till but thats about it. it is worth going to for your " fur " babies. Overall the store is ideal for everything you need. This is a great pet store. Big in size like PetSmart but with a more boutique look and feel. We used to go to the one on the northside quite a bit but this one is way more convenient for us. If you haven't been to a Homes Alive yet you must stop in. It is much different than the big chain pet stores. They carry many things you won't find at a PetSmart. They also have a frequent feeder program (i.e. every 10th bag of food free) plus a points program. So many ways to help you save money. There is ample parking here and the location is bright and beautiful inside. This has to be one of the most impressive pet stores I have been in. Quite honestly I am impressed. This store is so large, well-lit, and carries so much variety when it comes to brands, and items. Like most pet stores, the dog area is huge whereas the cat area is smaller but the size difference wasn't as big as I normally expect. There isn't much here for other animals (some but not much), but I love how there are areas for dogs to snack etc. We were able to find a brand of wet cat food that our cat enjoys eating (he gets it as a treat every so often but he doesn't often like most brands) and there's enough interesting food and toys here to examine that I'm sure we'd return for more treats for our cat in the future! Staff were quite helpful when we went to pay and I was impressed overall! :) read more

This is a great new pet store! Gator (my yellow lab puppy) and I went to scope it out today. It's a big warehouse style pet supply store, and like many pet stores, they allow dogs on leashes inside the store. Staff were friendly and helpful, and there is a massive selection of all the supplies you can think of. I noticed they have supplies for reptiles and cats as well. They are having some amazing sales right now- I saw so many high quality toys on for half price! Their regular prices seem very reasonable as well. Go check it out! read more

I have been getting my dog food at Homes alive for a few years now, because I thought I was getting good value buying 12 bags a get a bag free. Well, to my displeasure I visit Pet Smart and just happened to price the dog food I was buying ( Nutrience ). They had it at the regular price of $82.00 and a $10.00 special on at 72.00. I have been pay $90.00 for the same bag! thinking I was getting a deal with a free bag, every 12 bought. It appears they pump up the price to cover the free bag. Well I am done with buying my food from there and will be bringing my business over to Petsmart. read more

I really wanted to like this business. I've ordered from them several times over the last few years... the first time, online, I had a terrific experience when I called and asked for help with my order. The customer service person was fantastic, and my order arrived within a couple days, completely intact (which was a nice change from the dented cans I received from Amazon or other local pet store deliveries!). Then, I discovered the store location. I like the wide aisles and good selection, but the 3 times I've been to the store on Calgary Trail, I've not had the best reception by the staff. The one time I asked the person stocking the shelves a question, he had to take out his ear buds, and seemed put out to have to get a case of food for me... a paying customer. And, all three times, the cashiers were really not friendly. I thought I was being overly sensitive, but the last time I went into the store, I picked up my case of food and stood behind a customer who was finishing up, and the cashier and customer were chatting and laughing. When that customer left, I said hi and got no response, and then basically paid, was silently handed my receipt and walked out with my flat of cat food. I have no idea why the sudden change in demeanour of the cashier. But, the feeling of not being welcome is why I've returned to ordering online. Unfortunately, the last shipment I received was not delivered... the carrier rang my doorbell, but before I could run downstairs to open the door, they left without leaving my box of cat food, and I had to schlep over to the post office and haul the heavy box of 2 flats of canned food home. And then, I didn't realize that an old subscription was still active, and I received another shipment that I don't need a week after! And, now, I have to return it to the store (that I dislike frequenting) to get my money back. Customer service can't provide anything for my inconvenience for these last few issues. I guess I will have to shop around to find another pet food place in town that has the selection and pricing that is comparable to big box stores.... read more

This is really one of the top notch pet stores in Alberta. I really like that they are Alberta owned, and do carry quite a bit of Canadian product. Both locations are bright, and clean, with informative staff. There are so many foods (raw,kibble,wet) ,beds, scratching posts, litters, toys,games,health supplements, harnesses, collars, car safety such as carriers, barriers, you name it they have it. The first Tuesday of the month is 10% off all non sale items, and it can be quite beneficial. Prices are reasonable and comparable to other pet stores offering similar products, also if needing to return an item they are quick and is an easy process. If it is busy when you are about to pay, they will call another cashier to help out, to keep check out lines smooth and quick. Also they have a points program, so as you spend, you earn points (loyalty points) which can be used towards future purchases. Of course, your pets can come in and shop with you, which is always a nice way to spend some shopping time! read more

Always bright, always clean, a great place to stop for pet essentials and other fun goodies for your furry buddies. The feel real is like a boutique PetSmart, with a wide selection, but without the overwhelming, warehouse feel. Also, importantly, without any animals for sale unless they're doing an adoption event with a local rescue! Generally, cat items are on one side of the side and dog products are on the other, but then there's also supplements and a few other things that are suitable for both mixed in with the "dog" stuff, which can be a bit frustrating when you're trying to find something for a feline friend but don't want to go up and down the aisles of dog supplies. There is a rack of cards at the front that raises money for a local animal rescue, as well as local dog biscuits, I believe. I'd love to see more locally sourced products, especially some for cats though. read more

They have slacked off with public health practices, and after I wrote to them expressing my concern, and nothing changed, I will not be returning. Ever. There are so many excellent retailers to chose from who take covid-19 more seriously. I gave them a chance. Not again. This store is always super clean and well stocked! They carry so many options when it comes to cat food for food sensitivities. All the other pet stores I had gone to I could only find one or two options to feed my cat with IBD but here there were at least 10 options and counting. They have a pretty good selection for cat toys, a crazy amount of cat towers, and all the treats they carry seem to be really high quality as well. You won't find a lot of whiskas or friskies stuff here, just several high quality brands! The service is always very friendly and I find that getting help to find something is always really easy. I was a loyal customer for years. Now, you can't trust the stock even if you've placed the order and gotten confirmation. You may get a random email days later saying oh sorry we don't have that so we shipped only what we had in stock. Worse after this happened two orders in a row, I contact them before placing the order to confirm they have the stock, they say yes. So I order and again 2 days later I get a sorry we don't have it. Customer service used to be good in the past but the person who now handles it is infuriating and clearly patronizing. I used to order all my pet products from them. Wow, am calling around to get another Pet Safe rechargeable collar, my dogs fight and ripped off two already. Called here, girl wrote it down what I wanted, I waited ten minutes. Then she came on and said they had the in ground one, I said wireless... She said let me ask other girl, then after a minute they hung up, I heard a ring, they got another call, so I called back. Got a lady this time, gave her exact name again, am on hold, have other stores to call, have spent a good half hour already, still on hold while this huge huge store must be looking over the internet if they even carry these collars... took five more minutes, they dont have it... I asked if they would exchange it. And then they ignored my emails. Extremely disappointed. As I do not live close to any of Homes Alive locations, I ordered a number of dog treats on line. I was impressed with their website, on line ordering system and the large selection of treats, many of which I had not seen in other pet stores. I placed my order on June 16, 2021 and my items were on my door step on June 18, 2021. I was amazed at the quick service and my dogs were thrilled with the treats. I found the prices reasonable, and, the fact that they are an Albertan/Canadian company is a huge bonus. I'm so happy to have discovered this shop in Edmonton, I live in Calgary where the Natural Balance (limited ingredient) food is 1. Hard to find 2. Often out of stock and 3. Pricey. However, it's the only food my dog's sensitive stomach can tolerate and he's a large breed with a big appetite. I bought a nerf squeaking dog ball about 1.5 weeks ago. The squeaking mechanism failed and fell inside the ball. I asked for a new one on an exchange. I have been shopping online as well as visiting the north side location for a while now, but the new south side location is amazing. I went in to do an exchange (size wise) for a dog harness I ordered online and received exceptional service. Not only was the exchange process super easy, my pup also receive an impromptu training lesson from one of the employees who happens to be a dog trainer. I was super impressed with their interaction, all done in a positive manner. She was very knowledgeable about the fit of harnesses and we've been very happy with the one we chose. read more
