G&E has come a long way from 20 odd years ago, when I first remember going there. I remember it being very dark and absolutely filled to the rafters with stock. Kind of a scary place! It is much better organized and professional-looking now, but it still has everything you could need for most common pets, at a good price. It still lacks signage and one can end up wandering around lost looking for things. Items specific to dogs, for example, are not all in one area but rather in different parts of the store according to the function of the product. The new staff are more helpful in my experience and I find the store has more staff available to deal with higher volumes of customers. I can't speak to their product expertise. They were great the one time we had to exchange something, no problem. They do need another till, the check-out queue is way too long, especially if you're carrying awkward or heavy items. It also impedes customer traffic through the store as the aisles get blocked. I'm glad to have rediscovered the old in a newer, better form, and am happy to support a local business. read more

What a great store this is! It is deceiving from the outside how big it actually is. If you have any type of pet/animal, then make sure you stop and check out the wide selection of what they carry. There is also a pharmacist on site that can help any medical supplies that you need as well. If you're looking for dog or cat toys all the way to horse feed, you'll find what you need here, with reasonable prices as well. It is basically your one stop shop for all things animal. It's nice to see such a huge selection under one roof and not having to go to another store for something. The staff is also super friendly and knowledgeable as well. There is a tonne of free parking out front, but just a note, you can only access it directly if you are driving westbound on the sherwood park fwy. If you are trying to access it driving east, you'll have to go to the set of lights and come back as there is a meridian that you can't cross. read more

For the longest time I had no idea this was a pet store. I drove by it many times and always thought it was just a regular pharmacy. One day someone mentioned that it was a pet store and pet pharmacy. Not only do they serve urban pets but they also have equipment and food for farm animals too. They have a little bit of everything plus the pet pharmacy in and of itself is a great reason to check this place out. It is also a local Edmonton family business so another great reason to support them. The parking lot is a bit awkward and small but I have never been stuck without a spot either. Also it is attached to a little strip mall which usually have some other type of pet service tenants in it. So make sure to check out what else is there. read more

What I love is that it's a "Mom and Pa" store that's been around for 20+ years. That's so rare to find these days. I actually really enjoy going there shopping for my dogs. Anything a dog/cat/horse/rodent could ever need in its lifetime is sold here. Everyone is so friendly, and there's always at least 1 person with a dog/puppy in the store to say "Hi" to! LOL! They're also the only place I know that carries "Orijen" food for my parents dog, and don't charge an arm and a leg for it! I also like that they have a pharmacy right there in the store. So if you have a prescription from the Vet, buy it here instead of at the Vet clinic. It's WAY cheaper, trust me! My only complaint (if there has to be one) is that I wish they were open longer. They open at 9am and close at 6pm, Monday to Saturday and is closed on Sunday. It's just hard to get there after work on the weekdays before they close. So I just usually only go on Saturdays. read more

This place is fantastic! Yes, they are a warehouse. No, you are not going to walk in and it will look all spic and span like Pet Smart or PJ's Pets. However, none of this will matter when you take a look around and realize that they charge very great prices for a lot of the same products found at pet stores around Edmonton. They do not just carry dog and cat supplies, though they seem to specialize greatly in dogs (go figure). They do have also a lot of horse supplies, and a small section each for small animals, and birds. As also indicated by the word "pharmacy" in their name, they have a pet pharmacy in the back left-hand corner of the building. Gone are the days where you have to go get vaccines for $80 - $125 at the vet! A one-year 5-way vaccine for dogs here costs $12! Cat vaccines are also reasonable with a one-year 4-way being the affordable cost of $8. Another favorite would be the Horizon Legacy dog food, $55 for a 30 lb. bag here, where it'll cost you $70+ at Pet Planet (only other place it's carried in Edmonton that I know of). Lots of holistic pet treats are another plus! My dog loves the "carrot cake" Mother Earth treats, and the Vitalife dried duck and dried chicken tenders. They have giant bully sticks that are like 20" long for $8, where I have paid $8 for 6" ones elsewhere. Although Pet Smart just started carrying the Oxbow brand for small pets this past week or so, G&E was carrying it long before them, and their prices are more reasonable! Living World water bottles are excellently priced, as are their rodent wheels and Zupreem chinchilla food. I would recommend that chinchilla owners steer clear of the Mazuri chinchlila food (because it has molasses), but the Zupreem is wonderful, and at the very low, low price of $8.25 a bag. They also carry the Sunseed degu diet for $9, versus the $11 at PJ's or the $14 at Paradise Pet Centre all the way in St. Albert. There is not one item sold in this entire store that I've compared to an identical item at another store where it didn't come out cheaper. They are fantastic, and I will go back there again and again. read more

So I caved and went in again looking for a winter jacket for my dog. I also thought maybe I was being overly sensitive about them treating my partner and I badly. The verdict is that when I'm there alone the staff are friendly and when we've been in as a couple the staff are HORRIBLE to us. Anyway, besides that, the latest time I was there two employees were *very* loudly yelling -err 'conversing'- about how the one employees ex girlfriend wants child support and how he thinks he should be able to hit their children as punishment and she has no right to say anything because he is the 'breadwinner'. The other employee was agreeing with him (loudly saying things like 'don't let her tell you what you can and can't do with YOUR children' and 'you are the man and you make the money so you call the shots'). They were talking very loudly, to the point where the guy was freaking out, yelling and swearing and asking his coworker/family member to talk to his mom and also to 'shake his ex up' a bit. So obviously there are some family members hired within this family-owned and operated business which is great unless you have some major family issues that need to be addressed. So I'm there in the collar and leash section listening to all this thinking 'honestly WTF' and another costumer looks at me like 'is this really happening?' and I say out loud to her 'this store is always kind of weird'. There were a handful of other employees around, who could all obviously hear this super inappropriate exchange going on and no one said anything. I couldn't believe the whole scenario and found it pretty disturbing. I did buy a dog jacket because the prices were quite a bit cheaper for the same item than elsewhere and I felt I couldn't afford not to. Strange times at G&E! read more

This is a great place to go and get anything you need for your pet. They have a pharmacy here where you can get anything needed for your sick little guy or girl. I even bought my dogs annual shots from here, which saved me a lot of money. The staff here are very helpful. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that some are veterinarians or breeders (NOTE: I do not know if they are or not, they just seem very knowledgeable). You can bring your pets into this store. Our dog had an accident in here, and one of the sales people offered to clean it up. I offered and said he didn't need to worry about it, but he insisted. We felt bad, but he told us not to worry and that it happened all the time. This is probably why they have concrete floors! They sell all kinds of pet food, pet accessories, toys, kennels, travelling kennels, clothing, beds etc. Anything you need for your dog can be found here! And the price is pretty good too. We bought a travel kennel for our dog and it only cost $30. The quality was a little shady, but we figured our boxer would only be in it a couple times a year. Well.. that didn't happen. He burst through the mesh door the first time he went into it. I wish that the staff had told me that it was not the greatest quality. We had our dog in the store, so it was clear how strong he was by the strength he pulled on the leash. Oh well. This was my only had experience with G&E and I will be back again and again. read more

I've heard good things about G & E Pharmacy for years but, for some reason, never went to check it out myself, even though I'm basically a lifelong cat owner. When I recently found out that one of my kitties needed an expensive medication, I finally decided to try G & E. I first had to phone them to see if they had the medication we needed. It was busy the first couple of times I phoned but I got through eventually. The person on the phone was very nice and helpful. She hadn't heard of the medication I needed so went to gather some info and called me back on the same day. It turned out to be a special order and she gave me all of the info I needed. The prescription turned out to be $8 less per bottle at G & E than at my vet!! For something that I need to buy every 3-4 weeks, this adds up to quite a savings. I've been into the store physically twice at this point, one time to drop off the prescription and then to pick it up about a week later. I dealt with the same lady both times. She was incredibly friendly and easy to talk to, funny and helpful. I will absolutely come to G & E for anything I can get there from now on. Looking forward to checking out the retail part of the store next time I'm in, too. read more

If you know exactly what you're looking for and don't mind digging around a bit this is probably the place for you. While the prices are better than smaller shops (due to their ability to buy large quantities) I always dread having to go into G&E. The hours are terrible so it usually involves me having to high tail it over there straight after work. The staff is probably some of the worst I've ever experienced. More often than not I find the staff to be completely unhelpful. Personally I just would rather spend a couple dollars more for something closer to home and for better service. read more

As a rabbit owner it's tough sometimes to find places with a decent variety of supplies for sale at reasonable prices. G&E was a wonderful find for me. They are brimming with all kinds of supplies for all pets regardless of size at very reasonable prices. I used to shop at Petsmart and the majority of what I looked at was either on par with or only slightly more expensive here at G&E. The staff are also very knowledgeable about animals and what the best products are to meet your needs. If you want to shop local and support small business definitely stop in at G&E to look after the needs of your four legged family members. read more

I feed my dog Acana, a brand that I can't buy at bigger named pet stores like Petsmart. G&E pharmacy carries it and is slightly cheaper than other smaller stores. They carry a lot of things and it's pretty much a one stop shop for all you need for any kind of pet you have. It's a warehouse setting so it's a little more difficult finding help than other stores, but I enjoy being able to walk around and look at the things they sell without being bombarded by staff always asking to help you. If you need help, they are easy enough to find. I'm disappointed that I've read reviews about them not queer friendly. They should work on that, especially for an establishment that is Christian ran (they give out free Bibles at the till!), they should show love. It's such a shame towards the entire Christian community to behave like that especially at a business. They would have gotten more stars from me if it wasn't for their attitude toward the LGBTQ community. read more

I have always like G&E and have been a customer on and off for years. Great service and tons of selection with good prices. My only complaint is that they are only open short hours during the week, which can be annoying if your pet runs out of food on a Wednesday. Love this place so close to my house. I have to get this specific cat food and I find that they always have stock and the price is the best in the city by far. My issue is the hours, I work 8-5 on weekdays and I believe they closen at 4:30 on weekdays...shibby....so I usualyy go Saturdays and well thats when the rest of the city goes too I guess cause its packed but overall i enjoy my visits and highly reccommend this outfit to others. read more

I would love to visit this place more often but, as mentioned in numerous reviews below, their hours are pretty limited - especially during the week. Nonetheless, the selection here is really good and the prices are very reasonable - you can find some pretty neat stuff here too. I find the staff are always friendly and helpful. Definitely not your typically pet store - no animals caged up for sale here. I do find the store a little unorganized and crowded at times but that can be easily overlooked as the prices are just THAT good! We have two very different kitties with special dietary needs. The older cat gets her food from G&E which has an excellent selection of high quality food for people concerned about the dietary needs of their furry family. We probably could get the prescription food for our other kitty (UTI prone) but haven't followed up on that possibility. They have a wider selection of litter, but fall short on the non-clay based, environmental options. We need something that won't track or get stuck to fuzzy-butts, and isn't dusty when you pour it (it can't be good for you to breath that crap in). We have to go PetSmart for a corn-based product that has been pretty good. The place smells like it is well used by animal lovers and their four legged friends, and can be busy. Expect to stand in line at busy times. You may need help to get product off of the top shelf, but staff are quick once you find them. I like shopping local when I can, and this place has a unique spot for the custodians of small and very large animals (there are a lot of horse care products). The product quality mark is high here, but this is not the place to go if you buy your pet care needs based strictly on price. I'd give them more stars if we didn't have to get our litter elsewhere. read more

The staff are really great and they carry pretty much everything you need. BUT... lately the place has smelled really bad. Like... it stinks in there. It's a good thing that it's organized so well so I can just run in and grab it then run out, cause I don't think I could spend too much more time in there. The parking lot leaves a lot to be desired as well. It's cramped, and if a vehicle tries to go out the wrong way, you might have to reverse the length of the lot to let them out (happened to me last week). I went to G&E Pharmacy with some very specific needs in the way of pet supplies- several bully sticks of various sizes, some small tennis balls and a large black Kong bone chew toy. I was met at the door by a helpful staff member and she took me directly to the items I required. This was a real help to me that day as I was feeling a little run down and tired. Sometimes I like to browse a bit but the amount of choices in the store can be exhausting to go through when one is less able as I was that day. I was done my shopping in under 7 minutes and was very pleased. I asked about antlers as a chew for an older dog, and the staff person suggested that it might wear down the dog's teeth. read more

I just recently heard about G&E and boy was I ever happy to! I was very intrigued by the selection of everything needed for my dog. It was only at time of trying to find an employee was I stuck hunting one down. As soon as I found one I got attitude from all directions! These employees are rude and unhappy. Someone needs to remind them they are providing a service and should fix their attitude problems! I waited 15 minutes for the vet to get off the phone just to have someone curteous help me! When she helped me it was quick and easy and I had all my answers! They were given politely and as if she gave a cap about what she's talking about! I currently own three rescue dogs, animals have been a permanent fixture in my home for over 20 years, and I devote the majority of my free time to volunteering and helping local (and international) animal rescue organizations. Quite simply, I love animals. When I heard about G & E Pharmacy I was excited to check it out because I go through a lot of supplies both for personal use and to donate. Dog DNA kits have existed for decades and even though they are not at all 100% accurate I wanted to purchase one for curiosity and for fun. Lots of organizations use them with great success. We recently adopted a large unknown breed and even an inclination of what he is would be helpful in regards to specific health or behavioral problems. Petsmart stopped selling them a few years ago and the manager from the store told me to try G & E Pharmacy. When I called them, a very rude woman picked up and when I asked her about DNA kits she said they do not exist. She was abusive and actually used insulting words. I was shocked because I literally asked her one question and she reacted in a horribly unstable manner. If she is any representation of what G & E Pharmacy stands for, I want nothing to do with this place. Clearly it is a place with no knowledge and no customer service. read more

G&E is like a warehouse pet store. They don't do fish or lizards, but they do specialize in cats and dogs. Tons of toys for your furry friend. Aisles upon aisles of pet supplies. This is like the Wal-Mart for dogs and cats. The prices are good, as they always advertise out front for 30-lb bags of dog chow. There's a little pharmacy in the back in case you need medications for your animals and I think they may also have veterinarians on staff. My boyfriend and I shopped here because he needed a syringe to put some drugs in his fish tank. They had the syringe but not the medicine he was looking for. This is not the most beautiful, clean store. It's a warehouse and feels like one. But it's likely got what you need. read more

Great place for pets! Since I discovered G&E, I do not shop anywhere else for my puppy's needs. They have everything from high quality dog food (I like Acana for my dog) to toys, and even booster shots for my dog. Screw paying 90 bucks a vet to give a booster shot when you can do it for less than 8 bucks with the same end-result. They also have a great selection of kennels, leashes, and collars for your furry friends. Definitely reccomend. read more

The warehouse feel of this store can be a bit overwhelming at first but the selection can't be beat. They have many things that I haven't seen at chain pet stores including an amazing variety of 'farm to table' dog treats. :) I visited just before Christmas and the store was busy. Whenever I drive down 75th Street turning right on Whyte Ave, with our terrier in her backseat, she instantly gets excited. It's her most favourite place in the world! (Not mine when she starts walking me.) Great value for pet treats and pet food. There's a great selection of organic pet treats. Make sure you ask for a pet food savings card if you buy Orijen or Acana; the 13th bag is free within a 24 month period. We buy bird seeds and other supplies from G & E as well; the quality and price is surprisingly better than the Home Depot for bird-related inventory. The pet toys selection is quite random. Some of the toys appear to be seasonally stocked. Since Miss Terrier likes to walk me when she gets extremely friendly and excited, carrying a big heavy bag of dog food and trying to pull her away from other dogs is not something I can juggle well -- I'm very grateful for G & E's carry out service. ... When browsing up and down the aisles, just watch out for the occasional dog poop that some dog owners seem to be oblivious enough to pick up. read more
