I found myself succumbing to the urge to cuddle with some furry little animal and so on a whim, entered Petland. I was able to make friends with an adorable hedgehog and a cute and squeaky guinea pig. (I had no idea that guinea pigs actually do this oink-whistle thing!!) Exploring options to find a pet companion for my rabbit, I was happy to find the employees at Petland genuinely interested in the best solution for both my home, my rabbit and the potential new pet. I left the store on my first visit with a few brochures on guinea pigs and hedgehogs trying to distinguish which might be better suited for our family. On the second visit (another of many...it's right by a grocery store!! How can I resist going in there and browsing cuteness?!), I fell in love with a little black rascal of a rabbit who I thought would be the perfect friend for my rabbit and not just because they are the same color - he just had some spunky characteristics that I liked. I was allowed to hold him, pet him and when I inquired as to how I would go about with the introduction to my rabbit (for territorial reasons) I was informed they had a neutral room just for that. So, we returned the next day with our little rabbit Gretchen, excited to have her meet this potential new roomie and after much awkwardness on my part watching her unexpectedly hump the snot out of this poor rabbit's face, back, haunch -- all of it! -- I realized maybe this little guy wasn't a guy since he was failing miserably at establishing any dominance. Sadly confirming it was a female, (not ideal for our desired pet gender schematic), we ended up deciding not to take the rabbit. I found the staff were still more than courteous despite the time they spent helping us and at the end of their shifts. (we came in after 8:30 both times and they close at 9pm) A special shout out to the Store Manager, Kaelen Humphreys, who was very patient throughout the whole decision-making process. We will definitely be returning to this location for other pet related items such as fish supplies, fish tank stuff, fish, and probably rabbit chew toys, etc. Also, I noticed all the animal areas, every time I have visited the store, are exceptionally clean and the animals don't look depressed or anything. I think they get a lot of love from the staff which is nice to know.

If you shop online and live in Alberta shipping is free, over $100 I believe, and they ship out items within a couple of days with only 1-2 day shipping speed. The prices are the same or better than other pet stores or Amazon and I'd rather shop local where I can. I was having trouble finding a two door crate with a divider online with other retailers, but I was able to find one at Homes Alive Pets. I do note that what's available online is a little different than what's in store, so I'm glad I went in store because my pup has now found a little dragon chew/rope/squeaky toy that she goes absolutely crazy for that I wouldn't have known existed if I didn't go into this location.

Petland is a Canadian company so that's great if you prefer to shop Canadian. There are also signs on any items that are Canadian manufactured which is a great touch. The store is nicely organized, clean and brightly lit. The selection is really nice. I found it easy to find what I was looking for. Definitely sign up for the pets club since the discounts on items are worth it. It does seem pricier than some other stores - but if you don't mind paying a dollar or two more to support Canadian this is definitely worth checking out.

Ok, I tried my other card. "Ooops " again. Customer service claimed that PetValu declined my order out of caution.(???) It was the most weird experience with online shopping I've ever had. Everything is OK with my credit cards, I even called my credit card companies to make it absolutely sure. Basically I was refused online shopping service. WHY?! I have issues with mobility so online shopping works for me better (usually). Why PetValu should exercise caution to my orders? If the company has problems with processing online orders - fix these problems. That's how you lose your business and your customers to amazon. Now was the time to start learning the in's and out's of poodle care. I asked a few friends where they took their dogs in St. Albert and only good things were said about Clippin'Along. I check yelp and read a good review here. So booked Mac in and we were set. The cut was great, they treated Mac so well he didn't want to leave. We have been back twice since then, Mac gets really excited when he realizes where he is going. I really can't say enough good!
