Great selection, especially considering backlog delays with Covid. Disappointing how much they have raised their prices in the last year. Well over 20% increase on the dog food we purchase. This is my go-to pet store for dog food and supplies as well as goldfish and pond related items. They have a huge selection of items so unless you are looking for something very special they will probably have what you need in-store. I have been going to this store for a long long time. In fact I brought my dog Sundance here as a puppy for a puppy training course about 17 years ago! Since they are such a big store they often have very competitive, if not the lowest, prices. I really like the amount of pets that come this store. I bring mine when I can so they get to meet some new friends. I was there la few weeks back and someone had brought in their pet turtle and it was a big one. Unfortunately I didn't have my beagle Alice with me. I would have loved to see what she thought of that. I also forgot my cell phone at home so I couldn't even get a photo of it! They have a custom print your own metal dog tag machine which I have used to make many tags. I highly recommend anyone that has a pet get a ID tag for their pets collar. My dog was returned once because of it. I just heard of a story of a pet that was found which had a microchip but the finder never bothered (or didn't know) to take it to get scanned. Years later the owner was reunited with the pet but couldn't take it back due to pet restrictions where they moved to. But I digress... I have also used their pet grooming service. Mostly to get my dogs nails done. She would never let me do it so for $11 I would take her in to let them do it. It was marginally easier for them to do it even though it sometimes took 2 people. My experience with the grooming has generally been good but it varies as their staff seems to change quite a bit. The grooming area is wide open with lots of glass so you and other shoppers can see what is going on. All in all it is a good store that will meet most of your needs. We also like to shop at other local "mom and pop" shops around Edmonton as well. It's nice to spread your money around to these local companies and sometimes they also have some very unique items you may not find at a big chain store. read more

While some days I wish I could pick up everything I need for my Waldo kitty at some fancy pet boutique, because, y'know, he's totally worth it (and as particular in general as I am), Petsmart gets the job done. One of the biggest cat sections in town. Carriers, a wall of toys (even fancy Martha Stewart toys, meeeeow), bowls, fountains, scratching posts, litter, litter boxes, food, treats, you got it. Not a ton of staff around to help, but when I find someone, they're great. When I had trouble finding the right carrier for him an employee really went above and beyond to help me find the right one. I also joined the Petsmart loyalty club, too, so I get discounts! A happy kitty is a happy kitty mommy, and this place keeps Waldo happy. read more

I was looking into reptiles. I came to this store to check it out. I was impressed. The two women I delt with were extremely knowledgeable on the reptiles and owned them themselves. They helped me set up and knew what to look for and what I needed to start. It was a great experience. The only thing was the limited amount of terrarium hiding and perching decor. I've visited a lot of pet stores in Edmonton and this one is pretty good. It is a massive store, and therefore has a huge variety of items for whatever animal you have. We have bought a pet bed, various toys, and I've also bought a small aquarium here. Staff can be tough to find, but once you do I find them to be extremely helpful and friendly. They didn't mind at all that I let my pup sample and choose her own bed, and they have spent quite a bit of time with me looking for a specific harness and searching for an Oilers jersey big enough for my dog (no success!) I like that you can bring your pets in here, but I have had some experiences with aggressive dogs. Mine is a big girl so I wasn't too worried, but if she was still a small puppy at the time I would have been a bit concerned. Just keep an eye out for that. Prices are comparable- a bit high on some things, but a good deal on others. read more

We always come here to get our cat's food and kitty litter. If there is a sale, then we'll get her new kitty toys, a bowl or a new collar. I highly recommend getting a PetSmart PetPerks card that can get you a small discount on items. At the front of the store there are blank name tags that you can have inscribed with your pet's name. Most of the tags are a little too heavy for my cat to wear around her neck, but there are a few tags that are smaller and thinner (ie: fish). Her tag was around $7 and I have her name and my phone number on it. She's had her name tag for over a year and the lettering is still intact. Petsmart is one huge playground for our indoor kitty, so once in awhile we will bring her to the store on her leash. Other people bring their pets there too, usually dogs, but we've never had any problems. Our cat is timid, but she is stimulated by the smells, the sights of strange rodents and fish, and the occasional loose cricket hopping around. The only area that she avoids exploring is the cat adoption room on the far right side of the store. The stares from the other cats make her uncomfortable. The staff here is always great, always friendly, upbeat and knowledgeable about the items we're looking for. They even show love to our cat. read more

I think to properly appreciate PetSmart you need to be a cat or dog owner. I came in looking for supplies for my rabbit and wasn't that impressed with the experience. I ended up wandering the entirety of the store quite a bit as I couldn't find a single person to direct me to small pet supplies. For a store this size to have nobody working the floor in the middle of the day was very surprising and somewhat disappointing. When I finally did locate what I needed I was fairly impressed with the variety of food and litter they had stocked. The prices for some of the things though were just ludicrous. They wanted four dollars more for a bag of Timothy Hay then what I have been paying at their competitor Pet Planet. Regardless of the prices though I needed a bag of pellets and didn't want to go to another store so I grabbed one and headed up to the cash. The lady that rang me in was friendly but the lineup was long and another cashier didn't show up until I was about halfway through it. Goodness they must save alot of money here on payroll.... There are many other pet stores in the city and I think if your a small pet owner you can get better deals elsewhere. Like I said at the beginning of the review PetSmart seems to be more for dog and cat owners. read more

I have been taking my Pomeranian Yorkie here for a number of years for grooming. He always is so happy when he leaves. He has a double coat, and it grows to be very scraggly and uncomfortable for him. For the first 2 or 3 years, they would refuse to shave him. They explained that his double coat would grow back ugly and unhealthy. A couple of times, they were quite rude to me and very condescending, and at one point, I got so upset, I vowed never to take him back. I tried a few other places and found that they were pretentious and rude, and my little Frye never had the same smile as when he left PetSmart. So, i had to take him back. I gave up on the battle to have him shaved and instead just let them do what they wanted. then... about 3 or 4 months ago, we took him in and the groomer said "It's so hot for him to have all this hair... why don't we shave him?". I was stunned and happy and said YES! Now, the last two times, he has been shaved and I couldn't be happier. I'm not worried about the regrowth because we take him for regular grooming. He loves showing off his new haircut :) read more

Took our new puppy to Pets Smart when we first had her in June for her first hair groom. They did a reasonable job give you a nice detailed list on key things to do to train your dog to help them with their job. I would find this service more valuable if they would help to make our puppy feel more at ease for themselves than giving me additional work to do. The puppy training course is held by one person so there is limited flexibility. And honestly you could save over $100 if you watched the same teaching skills on YouTube. read more

This pet mega-store is one of the best on the south side! I find the employees very helpful and for the most part, the prices are reasonable. I took a dog training class through Petsmart and it was a real bang for my buck. The instructors were very helpful and friendly and answered questions before and after class. (They were also really good about giving us plenty of notice if class was cancelled.) As far as selection goes, this store has it all! I find myself spending much more time in this store than I plan-- There is just so much to see! Employees have helped me find things on more than one occasion and even though this location is a little farther from my house, I take the extra time to go to this location. read more

I like how I often see pets here (including on this most recent visit a HUGE dog!). Hi my name is Julianne and I am a Calgary Trail PetSmart junkie. This location is always well stocked, which has not been my experience with some of the other PetSmarts around town. It is a little too well stocked in fact. They always have something new and it results in a trip for a $50 bag of pet food turning into a $100 splurge. Lately I have been bringing my new puppy here for training classes. Sarah is an amazing trainer and it is nice to be able to practice the drills in a busy, real life scenario experience such as in the PetSmart aisles. Ideally, I would love to exclusively support the little guy and only shop at locally owned pet supply stores but I am on a budget and the prices here just can't be beat. I like this PetSmart for my (almost) one stop shopping for my goldendoodle puppy. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and great with pets. I like how at the checkout the cashier will ask if it is okay to give my pup a treat. I like to check out all the accessories and toys at PetSmart, as they have a great selection at reasonable prices (actually, some of the best prices for a pet store in town). It is always so tempting to pick up more than you originally intended as there are some pretty cute things at this store. The only thing I do not buy at PetSmart is my puppy's food, as I've continued feeding her the food which she was started on by the breeder, and the brand is exclusive to PetValu. PetSmart also does some reasonably priced dog training classes. We've attended the puppy class, and my puppy had a great time as well as learned a bit from Sarah, who is a very warm and excellent trainer. Make sure to join their free rewards program, which can save you several dollars on your purchases. read more

I spend way to much time at PetSmarts.... Although I would give PetSmart as a whole 4 to 5 stars, it does tend to get a bit frustrating when I have to go to different locations to get different products. All of my statements below remain the same; however, I have deducted 1 star due to the fact that they don't seem to rotate their stock forcing me to go to other PetSmart locations to find what I need. To elaborate - Mr. Turtle (my turtle...) is spoiled and gets a vast variety of food items. One such item being frozen seaweed/seebug/turtle nutrient enriched cubes (which I so far have only found at PetSmart). It seems as though they had at one point let their stock of this item thaw out in a puddle of water. They put it back in the freezer and it turned into a stuck together pile of three packages of them encased in thick ice (obviously as a result of them having sat in water at some point). They just look gross, and being that it has been this way for about 2 YEARS now...I would not feed this to my turtleman. Not cool PetSmart on Gateway - off to the Whitemud or Emerald Hills location with fingers crossed that they have some in stock. read more

Petsmart is a great pet store on the south side. It is probably one of the better ones on the south. It kind of reminds me of a zoo. You can go in, walk around and look at all the animals. Sometimes they will pay attention to you and sometimes they won't, you can't feed them, etc. It's such a big store and has so many pets that its kind of nice just to look around. You can also find loads of pet accessories. They also do grooming and offer training classes here. The prices are competitive with most other places but the selection is really what sets it apart. read more

She was very tough to groom because she would shake all the time - she didn't like people she didn't know. They were always gentle with her and they treated her really well. It's a great place. I did some research before choosing a puppy food and was pleased to see many of the top rated brands were sold at PetSmart. The staff at this location are always very friendly. Even though they probably see dozens of puppies everyday, whenever I bring my guy to the store they give him special attention (and treats). The prices are competitive and they have frequent sales. With a Pet Perks card you can take advantage of all the discounts. You can also conveniently shop online and pick up in store. They often have special promotions on their website. This is one of the better PetSmart locations in the city. It is large and has great selection of pretty much anything for any type of pet. My dog loves shopping here. He takes us up down every isle and always walks into the cashier booth to sit and wait for a treat. Overall decent store but lacking healthier food options at a decent price for your pets. I also have had a few negative experiences involving ordering online and picking up in store. One instance I ordered a cat tree online and I was told that it would be available to pick up in store. I went to the store to pick it up and they said that they already sold my tree.... A massive disappointment. It took about 1 week for my money to be refunded; very inconvenient. read more

I cant believe I havent written a review for this place yet. Because I have two cats this store is my stop at least once a week. They have the specific cat food my cats eat, cant find everywhere and the price isnt too bad. I use to have two large fish tanks and found that petsmart prices were one of the cheapest. The decor it seemed was half price from anywhere else. They now have a new aquarium system so it looks even better. Petsmart can cater to pretty much ever animals needs. If you like to see puppies too , stop by because customers are always bringing in their pets. Ive never seen so many bulldogs in a specific area. The line ups are short and theres plenty of staff. Hey Petsmart, I went to the petland at 3803 Calgary trail to buy a new pet for my home. As I was petting one of the birds the girl who worked there Taylor started yelling and said don't touch the animals there's signs everywhere. Seemed weird since they were out of their cages and there was no sign. I mentioned that and she said if you don't like it there's the door. I decided to come to this pet smart location instead to buy a new pet. The girls here were insanely friendly and nice and let me pet some of the different pets. Obviously when you're deciding on a new pet you want to be able to touch them to see how you like each other. End story I ended up buying items from this location and will be back many times to buy more. Thanks for having great staff that are friendly. Especially the two girls in the fish department are great! Great job! Will be back for all future purchases. Would recommend this location to everyone , petland on Calgary trail though. If you want it done right don't go to the one on calgary trail ..they don't always clean ears, they sometimes miss a nail or two, once I even came in at 630pm on a wen and groomer was leaving because they were closing early,I got a stencil for halloween looked like a orange blob (cant believe they charged me for it) but i'm easy going and know people make mistakes I even still tipped them!! so for about a year iv been going once a month for nail clipping, toys ,,food ect ...but today they lost a customer,they lost my updated vaccinations AGAIN!!!really how hard it it to save something on a computer??this place has just really gone to crap over the last 6 months really poorly trained staff that do not know how to do the job,So like I should have months ago I will spend my money elsewhere. read more

Petsmart is one of the only pet stores I will shop at in Edmonton. A true pet owner (or animal "lover") would NEVER shop at a pet store that sells dogs and cats (re: PJs Pet Center, which is an abomination and sells abused puppy mill dogs and cats - do your research). I respect and appreciate everything they do with their charities, grant programs, and adoption days with local rescue groups. Pets should be adopted out, not sold. The staff at this location are informative and genuinely caring. I like this location the most because it is in a convenient location and has a huge selection. Most important of all, Petsmart is the only place I have been able to find Charlee Bear dog treats. My girls cannot live without their favorite treats! read more

I really appreciate that they leave the door open to the cat adoption area, as socialization is super important for the development of cats and dogs alike. SO disappointed by this Petsmart location. We took our dog in to be groomed. We received a phone call telling us that they wanted to keep her an extra hour to bathe her. That was fine, but five minutes later we received another call telling us that they could do longer keep her because she had defecated. Granted she is an older dog and has a hard time standing and things happen! We were okay with this, however she looks horrible! Her fur is completely uneven and scraggly now. She looked far better before we took her in. She was also still wet when we had to pick her up and we were not given a discount. I still had to pay $70 for a fur trim that looks like a two year old did it. We will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

I have taken my dog to this location 3 times now. The first time wasn't too bad, not great but ok. The second time was terrible and the third time was the worst. The (grooming Manager) cut my dog's hair. One ear was longer than the other, the skin showed PINK along the back of the dog. Crappy attitude of the groomer. I am done with this location for grooming anyway. The first 2 times were $43 this was 2 months ago by the way and the last one was $60. Bob the STORE manager is a hell of a nice guy, but the grooming manager needs to go back to school. read more

This is the second Petsmart I've been to in the city. And I won't be returning. I had made an appointment for my 6 month old pug. Came in the next day for the scheduled appointment. As I leave the groomer proceeds to tell me that I would receive a call at 530. I said 530?! Are you nuts, why on earth would it take 3 hours for a small breed bath and nail trim? I was totally thrown off by this. But I left anyway hoping they would complete the appointment in less than 3 hours. I then came back to the location to see if my dog was completed early. I walked into the grooming salon and was greeting by rude and clearly unhappy staff members. One groomer said we told you 530 and he's not ready! I told the groomer when I made the appointment the day before it was never explained to me it would take 3 hours. I asked what had been done so far, just a bath. My dog was not even dry from the bath he received. I've been to several other locations and it's never taken 3 hours. The groomer than tells me "every Petsmart is a 3 hour window" They had to bring in a manager "Jason" because apparently it is against store policy for them to release a dog to its owner without the completion on the appointment. I paid $28 for a miserable bath. No ears cleaned and no nails trimmed. read more

Probably the worst place you can take your dog to get groomed. I have a Leonberger that i took in and I almost sued them. Instead of taking the time to actually come out his small knots they took a shaver all the way down to his skin on his chest belly and tail. Now Leonbergers have a double coat that should never need cutting minus a small trim. They were so lazy and careless that they also cut him with the shaver. Luckily since he was young at the time his coat has finally grown back without any permanent damage. When I went to complain to the groomer the head groomer stepped in and frankly acted like a total B$%#*! I then proceeded to ask for the manager who was not contrite at all and only offered my money back. If you care about your dog take them to a place with certified groomers not the lazy hacks at petsmart. read more

I called to book an appointment for a puppy bath, and the soonest they could get me in would be 8 days later. I show up with my puppy, 5 minutes before my appointment time to find out that I was nowhere to be found on their schedule. I left and went back to my car to call the number that I called to book my appointment to see if they scheduled me for a different location. Nope, no records of any appointment scheduled anywhere. Since I spent a lot of time thoroughly brushing and combing my pup so that the groomers would have nothing to complain about, I agreed to an appointment 2 hours later at the 17th St petsmart about 15-20km away. Puppy bath. How long can it take? 4 hours! Just for a wash, blow dry, brush, and nail trim? $60.00! The website listed that ear har would be pulled and ears would be cleaned "if necessary", paw pads would be shaved, and anal glands emptied. Nope. Thanks for confirming how terrible your services are and wasting my day off Petsmart! read more
