We were a bit rushed to order our meal even though there were not that many people in the diner. It seemed like it was a real bother for the waitress to serve us. We ended up deciding to get breakfast food. We kind of figured you can't go wrong with breakfast but my mom's pancakes were burnt in some places and it looked like they were just sort of thrown on to the griddle because they weren't really that round. I wouldn't recommend the home fries, they were not flavored well and they were cut pretty big. I don't think we will go back. read more

The portions are large, hot and fast and the price is reasonable. The atmosphere is so-so; not as cool crazy as some of these old chrome diners can have. The clientele are mostly locals who keep to themselves. Only negative really was that the coffee was sub-par (i.e. watery). read more

I don't know if there is any bias to out-of-towners (it is very obvious from our ethnicity and NY logo caps), but the staff was cold and unfriendly to us. Workers walked by us without seating us. After waiting 5 minutes in the front, we finally asked what should we do, and they said to just take any table in the rear. So after sitting, a waitress finally came 5 minutes later to take our order. She was very uncordial and unfriendly. When we gave her our first dish, she told us that they are "out of pasta", and did not offer apologies or substitutions or other recommendations. After I told her we are contemplating leaving because it limits their selection, the waitress just left us and attended other customers. I was rather shocked at her rudeness. So we left, and decided to go to Ruby Tuesdays (about 8 minutes away). Wow, what a difference! The staff was warm and friendly, and the food was excellent. So my review is: Out-of-towners ... stay clear of the Glider Diner. It doesn't matter that Obama visited this place. It is not friendly, from our experience. read more

When me and my friends used to be super fat we go down to the glider all the time and order 3 cheeseburger deluxes and a dessert. the best food for the best price in a great location across from the football field. now that I'm skinny we stop by for a water of course and a salad while all along thinking of those cheeseburger deluxes with fries and gravy. read more

First let me say that I like the food at the glider diner and the waitresses are efficient and kind, but.... the place is dirty. I sat in my chair facing the kitchen door and the coffee creamers and dirt under the cabinet appeared as if all the dirt from the floors was swept under there. Our table plastic was dirty with coffee rings. My husband ordered a glass of water which came with a lemon pit stuck to the side, but no lemon. All tables were cleaned with the same dirty rag. The outside has refuse around the building. The front door windows were so dirty that I didn't want to touch the door handle. Our table had uneven legs and rocked like we were on the ocean. These folks need to pay more attention to cleanliness. They need to make the environment as good as the food. read more

I hate to even write this review because I have always loved the glider, but, the last 2 times I have eaten there have been bad experiences. The food is still great but the customer service on the part of the management is appalling. Last week, my husband, 16 month old, and I went for breakfast. We ordered her one egg scrambled and one pancake and it was almost 8 dollars, the same price as a breakfast combo with pancakes, eggs, bacon, and toast! The waitress told me (after we got the bill) that they had to be 2 separate orders because the restaurant recently changed their menu and computer system. I should have read the menu more closely but I was upset she didn't point this out to me. Today, we went again. All 3 of us ordered meals and I asked for a smaller additional plate for the baby's eggs. They told me I would need to pay a plate charge! Are they kidding? Our waitress was lovely but I am really turned off by the glider. There are lots of other places to go for breakfast and the food isn't good enough to put up with nonsense over plate charges and overcharging children. Sorry this was so long. read more

I spent 6 years working in restaurants in my 20s. It's hard for me to get so frustrated that I want to write a bad review. This was our first and last time eating at the Glider Diner. Our waitress was so rude. After waiting for five minutes after walking in an not knowing where to sit, I finally caught a young lady's eye. I smiled and said we've got five. She abruptly said, "seat yourself." Ok, we found a table. Snippy interaction was the standard for the meal. I figured I'd need to grab silverware from a table beside us since she didn't seem to care that we didn't have enough. Our food came quick and was tasty. Her attitude was poor. At the end of the meal she even cut my wife off and walked away while she was asking a question about splitting the bill. Before I left, I decided to ask her what was wrong or if she was having a bad day? She said, "No, Why?" I explained that she started the experience poorly with her "Seat yourself" tone. She said, "what else should I have said?" I simply stated, "It's how you say things." I then asked why she never offered a refill for my tea? She said, "you should have asked me." It's her job to ask me at least one if I need a refill or anything else! I then proceeded to ask her why now she was arguing with me about my poor experience. She explained that she has regulars and didn't really care if I felt this way.... Oh well. I hope she doesn't blow the two dollar tip all in one place. read more

If you love classic diners, you'll love the Slider. It's not a five-star fine dining restaurant, but it is a five-star diner. Easy access from almost any of the highways around Scranton, via the central expressway. Very cute classic style, nice staff, tasty food, super-cheap. Definitely try a Texas Wiener if you haven't had one before. read more

Fast & delicious breakfast served all day. Corned beef hash, home fries and over easy eggs were all top notch. Great retro atmosphere too.

Glider diner is your typical greasy spoon. Went here for dinner after work. Had a great open faced meatloaf sandwich with gravy fries. The service was friendly and very quick. Food was what you would expect from a dive diner. I would return especially if I had a hangover (nothing beats greasy diner food when hungover). read more

Have eaten here several times. The food is amazing... very homey and comforting... the "extras" of beets and coleslaw are also wonderful. The breakfasts are great and I keep ordering the meatloaf for any other meal when I go there. Also, they give you fresh bread (not sure if it's homemade) but it is SOOO good. I just moved to the area and kept hearing about this place. When I finally asked what the big deal was, I was told just to go and get the gravy fries and open faced roast beef sandwich. When my family was in town, we went down to try it out. Delicious! Everything we got was great and the atmosphere of the old diner setting was fantastic. I would definitely go back again. Service was okay, not outstanding. Some waitresses were snippy while others were very pleasant - luck of the draw I guess. Definitely a place to check out for the experience alone. read more

I went for breakfast not too long ago with my dad and i got a coffee, after i was done with my meal and my coffee, we were getting ready to pay & i looked into the container holding the milk for the coffee and on the inside there was old crusted milk and it absolutely turned my stomach. Classic diner food and experience! As the only vegetarian in my family of 6, i was a bit concerned about the selection that they might offer - but I had the best veggie burger ever in this place. They also had lots of traditional diner fare for everyone else, served fast and hot by an efficient staff. Real food for a little more than you would pay for fast food. Love this place. I am there like twice a week. They have a delicious open face hot roast beef sandwich also the open face hot turkey sandwich is delicious. I love their cheese and gravy fries, they are so good. I would recommend any of the club sandwiches, my fav. is the turkey club or the bacon club. Their chicken noodle soup when they have it is the best. They also have good salads and they are filling. My only two complaints is that you cant order tap water with lemon anymore, they make u buy the bottle water, this is the only diner i know of that does this. The other complaint is that often we are done with the meal and have to wait for the waitress to bring us our check and wait and wait and wait and wait. read more

i have been coming here for over 30 years...i can honestly say i experienced one of the worst breakfasts of my life this morning. all three of us were disgusted with everything from the coffee to the eggs to the potatoes (oh my god, i think they started cooking them LAST July 4th weekend). the scrambled eggs were obviously scrambled (barely) on the grill and were barely edible. i could get down two bites and then decided that was probably going to make me sick. my aunt had a look of disgust on her face after she tasted her "homefries" (which were huge chunks of dry, unpsiced potatos that were so stale that you'd never want to put one in your body). the waitress of course said 'oh, you've hardly eaten everything' and when my aunt told her that almost everything was lousy and explianed why, she said 'oh no, we make fresh potatoes everyday'. well...maybe they started at midnight...and she didn't mention if the potatoes they use are five years old or not. she then gave us the full check with no compensation at all. i was so disappointed that after so long in the game, this old school diner couldn't sling out a simple and edible breakfast, but they couldn't do it. they failed on every front. don't ever go here for breakfast. roast beef sandwich and keep it moving. read more
