We hired Kelly from Glass Slipper Gourmet to make our wedding cake last year and even though it has been nearly a year (sorry for the late review!) I still think about that cake at least twice a month. It was genuinely the best tasting cake I have ever eaten. I crave my wedding cake constantly. We were looking for a wedding cake vendor who would offered a wide variety of flavors, hopefully some unique ones, and who could execute our design vision. When we went in for our tasting and meeting with Kelly we pretty much knew there was no other option. All the flavors we tried were incredible. The cakes were so moist and delicious. We chose two flavors: Honey Bee Mine (lavender blossom cake w/ orange water, honey cream cheese, blueberry filling) and Chocolate Divine (Devil's Food cake w/ chocolate buttercream, raspberry preserves, dark chocolate truffle filling). I come from an Asian family and have a lot of Asian friends who prefer desserts that are "not too sweet" while my husband's family are chocoholics, ao this ended up striking the perfect balance for us. The chocolate flavor was delicious but the Honey Bee Mine is truly the best cake I have ever had and may ever have. I still get friends and family commenting occasionally how delicious the cake was. While the cake crumb was delicate and moist with a good distribution of filling, the cake itself held up very well despite the mulitple tiers. I've had some weddings cakes that are a bit too dense or dry in order to maintain structure, but this was not the case at all. On the design end, we went through a few different design ideas. Even after we had put in our deposit we eventually shifted to a different motif and Kelly was very flexible at accommodating our requested change. We decided her cake design was so beautiful we didn't need additional florals or a cake topper. Kelly was so thorough and detailed in explaining how different techniques (piped flowers, painted designs, sugar flowers, etc) worked and how they would affect pricing. Same with tier sizes, additional sheet cake, etc. She was so transparent with us and it helped us figure out what was the right option for us. On top of everything, Kelly was so professional to work with and really responsive. Some of the other vendors we met with offered delicious cakes as well, but weren't nearly as responsive. She gave good instructions for what kind of stand we should get. Delivery of the cake went very smoothly day-of. And we loved how she inserted our little cat figurine into the cake. GSG has a $200 minimum for cakes, because they primarily specialize in wedding and other event cakes. While we won't be able to pick up one of her cakes for a casual birthday dinner, my husband and I have already begun brainstorming excuses to order a cake from her again. read more

The cake we got for our wedding was spectacular, both visually and in terms of its deliciousness! We opted for a more modern style, marbled color on fondant, and the result was stunning, a great centerpiece for our wedding. In addition, both the cappuccino and blueberry cake flavors were phenomenal. The blueberry in particular was not just good but very interesting, truly unique and unlike anything we'd had before. In terms of planning and preparation, Kelly was extremely professional. To start, we had a fun and informative tasting session, during which my husband and I were able to sample 10 (!) different flavors. Kelly diligently kept track of our preferences, helping us narrow the options and ultimately pick our favorite ("Pucker Up"). She also showed us styrofoam rounds of different cake sizes to bring the proposed dimensions to life and allow us to visualize our future cake. We appreciated her suggestions for ways to stay within our budget, including supplementing our main cake with sheet cakes behind the scenes. After such a great experience early in the process, we weren't surprised that Kelly very much delivered on the day-of. She coordinated independently with our wedding planner, arrived on time, and beautifully applied the flowers provided by our florist. I am SO glad my venue had Glass Slipper Gourmet on their preferred vendors list because I truly couldn't have imagined a better cake than the one (two!) created for us by the talented Kelly. I am a cake connoisseur, so naturally having the best possible cake for our wedding was very important to me. I was pretty sure it would take many days of hunting for the right bakery, along with many tastings. Turns out, I only needed one tasting to KNOW. Kelly makes the best cakes. Period. They are so unique, perfectly fluffy and not too sweet. We used glass slipper for two cakes: one for my bridal shower and one for our wedding. The bridal shower cake was a fondant blue cake that had a ribbon across the top and a gift tag attached to it. The ribbon she used for the tag was very sloppy and knotted in an ugly manner (pointed out by many of my aunts). We were going to take the tag off but realized under it was a huge dent in the cake so decided to leave it on in the end. The top of the box was done to look like a hat box but it was not even. (see pictures). After seeing the bridal shower cake my mom and aunts wanted us to switch to a different cake vendor but my man and I decided to stick it out and assume the dents, bumps and flaws were a one time mistake. Before the wedding I had emailed my concerns about the cake and that we really wanted I make sure that the same issues did not occur. She assured us she would do everything possible to not have the same types of issues and we believed her.. I sent her a champagne ribbon that I wanted the icing to match weeks before. We were SO excited to see our cake because we had paid more for it than we had originally planned so we had high expectations. Sadly, we were disappointed. The icing was not a light gold color but rather a mustard yellow. I honestly sucked my breathe in when I saw it because I was in disbelief of the color. The icing was not centered in many places (bridal party /parents also pointed it out). The cake was in the center of the room so the portion where the ribbon overlapped was not cut evenly and was extremely noticeable. We had to angle ourselves so that it did not show up in pictures. HOWEVER, the cake was delicious. We had a white cake with dark chocolate filling and raspberry layered in there. It was mouthwatering and everyone loved the flavor and went back for seconds. 5 stars for flavor. After the event we emailed and I did explain that although we loved the taste we were not satisfied with the look at all. I did not enjoy the tone of her reply because she make me out to be a bridezilla, which I most certainly was not. My husband was not happy with the unevenness, I was not happy with the ribbon and icing color. Considering we paid a handful for the cake we did expect near perfection. We felt that the pictures we saw in her portfolio did not match the quality of work that we saw on either of the cakes we received from her. Yes, she put in many hours of work BUT her job is to make gourmet cakes and with that comes a level of perfection that is expected. I have attached pictures with arrows to show the flaws we are talking about I did forget to tell the reception to collect the cake supplies at the end of the night so they were thrown out. Kelly did tell me ahead of time that i would lose the 30-50 (i cant remember exactly how much) deposit if I did not return the items but because of my unhappiness she did not cash the check. Although this was a nice gesture I did find it odd that when you are paying close to 2k for a cake you would charge your customer for some pvc piping. But in fairness, she did inform me of this ahead of time so that was my mistake. Design 0 Average 2.5 Would I use her again or suggest her to a friend? I hired Kelly for my wedding cake on 5/14/11. Kelly is a very kind, friendly, professional person who also is VERY talented with wedding cakes! She was patient and flexible with me as changed my mind a few times, and asked for clarification on prices, deposits, etc. She met with us at our home for the cake tasting, and then agreed to meet with me one more time at a more central coffee shop to discuss more details once I had decided on a design, and then again on the phone to finalize details a few weeks before the wedding. After our May 2020 wedding was postponed, we agreed with our vendors to follow up the following year about our new date of October 16th, 2021. Unfortunately, our only vendor that fell through was our baker, who retired.
