We did not have a reservation and were able to get seated right away. Very Instagramable place with a great view. The music was at a reasonable level where we were sitting. Ask for Jaime. He was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. We ordered the ceviche, guacamole, and Lobster tostada to start. Lobster tostada was amazing. It has a Smokey chipotle aioli that paired well with the lobster. For the Main we shared the carne asada and ordered a side of broccolini. The steak was cooked well but was heavily seasoned so it made it a bit salty. The broccolini was 10/10 order again. The Drinks were mid. I'd skip. We came here super randomly for my friend's birthday around 10 PM, basically right when the kitchen was closing, but everyone was still so nice and helped us order. We got nachos and a salad and both were sooo good. My friend and I tried the Gipsy Disco first and loved it. For my second drink, our server recommended a Pornstar-style cocktail that I don't think was even on the menu, and I'm so glad I listened. It had a really nice pineapple flavor and was honestly one of my favorite drinks of the night. The vibe here is also so cute. The disco ball, warm lights, tropical decor, everything just feels really fun and photogenic without trying too hard. And the brownie they brought for my friend's birthday... literally one of the best brownies I've ever had - Warm, rich, super chocolatey. We came in so late and still had such a good experience. Terrible Customer Service. Tried booking a party for 18 people on a Monday night a couple weeks ago. The young female representative was so cold and unhelpful AND difficult to reach via email and calls. Everything here was totally excellent! Went here yesterday to celebrate me and my lady's 22nd year anniversary . Gitano did not disappoint... the food was excellent! The ambiance was impeccable.. and it's so easy to forget the rest of the world when you're there. The dj played a nice selection of music for a Friday night and the crowd was mainly young and at least appeared to be professionals. The vibe that our birthday dinner got was that this is a club!......That serves food. The waitress was attentive but the back of house took maybe a hour and a half to prepare the main course. I've never really enjoyed any of the gitano locations. This one is very pretty but in the middle of a heat wave, the "beachy, indoor/outdoor" vibe will have you praying for snow. Heatstroke pending. Anyway, the manager DID come around and apologize with a glass of Prosecco. Thank you! A very courteous staff! The food however, was mediocre. Nothing really stood out. The guac and chips were fine. The salmon and rice entree had a lovely crust and the sauce was tasty. The crispy potatoes were fine. The chorizo cheesy dip was ok. I was honestly disappointed with my experience here. We ordered the Kiss on the Beach punch bowl and specifically asked for no peppers, but it was still served with peppers. We were also automatically given bottled/still water without being asked whether we wanted tap water, and then were charged for the water afterward. I also ordered guacamole and was charged for extra chips, even though I never requested extra chips. Beyond the billing and order issues, the music was extremely loud, which made it difficult to have a conversation at the table. I also felt that the portion sizes were too small for the prices. Unfortunately, the food itself did not stand out enough in taste to justify the cost. We celebrated my birthday at Gitano NYC with a group of 10, and it was everything I hoped for and more. From the moment we arrived, the service was incredibly attentive, warm, and professional. Every detail was taken care of; they even customized the header of the menus for my group. Our servers made sure we felt celebrated and taken care of the entire night. Because we were a larger group, we did family-style dining, which turned out to be perfect. It gave us the chance to try a bit of everything, and honestly, every single dish was a hit. We started with the guacamole and ceviche, both super fresh and full of flavor. For mains, we shared steak, chicken, and bass, all perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The steak was juicy and flavorful, the chicken was tender with just the right amount of char, and the bass was light and flaky with a gorgeous sauce. And then came dessert...chef's kiss. The cheesecake was creamy and not too sweet, and the churros were warm, crisp, and totally addictive. They disappeared in seconds! The ambiance is unmatched. It was lush, tropical, and feels like an escape right in the middle of NYC. Had lunch on a beautiful warm September Saturday. Not busy at all. The big doors were open to the terrace by the river which was nice. Menu is interesting. The food was good, not amazing. Service was solid. The dress code situation was unclear - in this situation I think casual would have been fine- perhaps stricter at dinner and late night. Great new spot! Having been a patron of Gitano's in Tulum, Varick St, and Governor's Island, I was excited for them to move into a more permanent, weather-friendly space while keeping the amazing views. The restaurant is stunning and I love the scale of the high ceilings, with tall bars, giant chandeliers, and a massive disco ball to balance. The service was mostly good. The host stand needs to greet people immediately instead of keeping their heads down for several minutes until they are done with what they're doing. All the service staff had vibrant, fun personalities. We felt very taken care of. Noticed the clearing got a bit too aggressive with the servers having tried to grab 3 different cocktails before I was finished. A simple "May I take that for you" instead of touching the drink goes a long way... which was ironic, because when we got up to dance at the end of the night, they left all of the dishes on our table for over an hour. The music was GREAT. I'm a bit of a music snob having worked in the industry for several years, but the first DJ played some of my favorite house tracks and the second DJ kept the energy going. I love that the area near the DJ booth turned into a dance floor at around 11pm. This is a LATE crowd. The restaurant didn't fill up until about 10pm. The cocktails were great, but you MUST like mezcal, because 8 out of 11 of them contain mezcal. lol And finally... the FOOD! It was fantastic. Every dish was complex and bursting with a symphony of flavors that were perfectly balanced. We had the cotija cheese, ceviche, and lobster was sent compliments of the chef! All were fantastic. I wanted an extravagant night for Halloween so we opted for Gitano's death and opulence dinner and party. We were not disappointed, the dramatic Tulum inspired decor transported us to Mexico, the beautiful views of the Bk bridge brought us back :) the food was plentiful and delicious, outstanding dishes included the ceviche, beet salad, salmon and lemon cheesecake. Not sure if these dishes are on their regular menu but if they are, you couldn't go wrong if you ordered them. The service was wonderful there were a lot of people and I'll admit that our waitress got distracted by larger tables but in order to make it up to us, she gave us two glasses of wine on the house. We went to the bar and there was 4 bartenders behind the bar. A tall bartender after 10 min at least he gave us the menu wich was the wrong one then he ignored us for an other 10 min, a server later came to help us with the menu while the tall bartender was just chatting with his friend at the bar, my wife literally has to raise her hand so the other bartender came to help us, I guess their friends r the important. The table had wet cup marks everywhere from the last party probably. Dirt was everywhere on the floor near us. You cannot even get the view they advertise in the outside area as everything is blocked by plants. They sat us in the dinner area first as well when we had reserved for the outside area so it took us a long while to be seated outside. If I could give 0 stars, I definetely would.
