We uber eats delivery because we were lazy pieces today! Let me tell you I am BLOWN AWAY at how hot and delicious everything was. Fettuccini Alfredo and fettuccini pesto were massive and rich. We ended up mixing the two pastas which was even better than their stand alone. Can't wait to try more and eat in next time. Sorry for the photos! We were half way done when I remembered HAHA

This was my first time visiting the restaurant and I was very pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious. We have just returned from a trip to Italy and I was craving good Italian food. This definitely met my expectations. Very cozy restaurant with great service. Lots of choices from pizza, pasta, and a variety of other selections as well.

I don't usually like to do reviews on delivery orders on yelp, but every now and then you get a place that their food is way incredible. I had to rave about this place because of that. I ordered Shrimp Alfredo and a pizza. I've never been there but I imagine the Ambiance there is amazing. This is a must go to place. So me a favor and try it if you want real Italian food.

We go there on weekend once in a while. They're not very crowded on Sunday. We got seated immediately. I like their food that is not super salty like some other Italian restaurant. The pizza is loaded with toppings. Pasta portion is very big. My mom and I can't finish our dish. We get to take them home to enjoy the food the next day.

I Love their food the chicken soup is clearly home made and the sandwiches are an amazing deal. They have spumonie that is a scoop of each, cherry , pistachio and chocolate. I will never feel the same about the mixed spumoni.

One of the best Italian place in Portland Area!! Very authentic. It always has a line though

Spaghetti with half mushroom sauce and half meat sauce.

I wheel in the front door the doors are hard to navigate you open one door you go uphill to the next door. Awkward. I have been here before there are always people waiting in line for to go orders for pizza. I wait a minute or two and I am seating. My seat next to the front door facing a wall. I asked if I could be seated at another place they said if you can sit in a booth if not this is all we have. I take the seat facing the wall. I asked to be seated in the back area I was told it was not open. Only a few minutes later they open the back area literally I was served water at that point my wine did not arrive nor my wait person. I ordered the spaghetti and wine. The wine Villa Pozzi Nero D'Avola. A red wine at first I smelled diesel fuel... just sitting in the glass. But it opened up as the meal progressed. Turned out to be a decent wine. It is from Southern Italy, Sicily. All respect to the wine makers and the choice from Giovanni's. The wait staff part of the family very knowledgeable about Italy they still have family in the heel of the boot. The spaghetti and sauce. I had ordered half mushroom and half meat sauce. I could not find the meat sauce. So I guess that there was an error on the delivery. The spaghetti itself lots of water in the base of the plate. Overall I would not order that again. The garlic toast. Is that toast or even bread? The decor some really nice pictures on the wall. The music drowned out by the noise. Most of the staff dressed run slightly worn black clothes. Never been my favorite but the customers all seem happy and even the dinners. The wait staff knows the menu. Will I ever go back... yes for the pizza.

3/19/2024 - The cannoli was so amazing! Too bad the pizza was extremely burnt - so gross.
    Mikhail H.

I don't crave pizza often which is likely because we really do not have great pizza options around. It is mostly a creation that is not horrible but just makes you long for really good pizza. My expectations are pretty low when I am craving it. I wanted an ok pizza delivered and when scrolling through the app for some food delivered I decided to give Giovanni's a go because the used the magic word 'cannoli' and that is something I cannot get at any other pizza place, to the best of my knowledge. I have to say that if I was going off the cannoli alone I would be reporting five stars because those were amazing!! Something I cannot forgive is burnt pizza... the smell alone. That is what was sent to me and for the amount of money the charge for pizza that pisses me off more. It also means I am not going to bother trying to go to your restaurant again. I ordered a margarita figuring I was in for a treat from a place I had been meaning to try for awhile and was excited until it arrived. It is even worse for delivery because I am not going to stiff my delivery person for the restaurant screwing up so now I have no dinner or have to pay to get something from somewhere else pushing out food etc... when at a place you can complain and send it back. I was genuinely shocked seeing a near BLACK pizza when I opened the box - like what did I do to piss of the cook because this is not just slightly overcooked but BURNT... I have included photos.

They have a cozy indoor seating area with a classic bar backdrop. Or if you feel like sitting outside but being shielded from any wind, rain or coolness - there is a cute picnic table area out on a tree shaded side street. We had an out of town guest and we did not want to fuss with cooking at home nor sitting in a stuffy noisy (or super quiet) eatery! Sitting out side before sunset, was the perfect setting on our Monday night. Our waitress was super interactive and very genuine with her assessments of the dining & alcoholic beverage choices. For adult drinks we had an excellent Next Level IPA brewed & branded for Montelupo, Rose special and glass of House Red wine. I was starving so we ordered the LARGE Radicchio salad and it was Big & filling. A side of fresh Broccolini complimented our individual entrees. My hearty Italian dish was the Ricotta Cavatelli. I even had enough for lunch the next day! My two lovely lady dinner mates had meals of Mafaldine pasta and Spinach Fettuccine (with Grana Padano cheese added). We gladly finished our comfortable dining experience with a shared and inhaled Tiramisu dessert. If you have time, spend a few minutes browsing the Italian Market refrigerated food and alcoholic options. Plus the well stocked and reasonably priced Italy sourced dry goods are worth a view

The woman with dark brunette hair at the register (who processed the transaction below) was extraordinarily rude & impatient with us. Candidly, I've never been treated so poorly by someone taking my money before.  We were at the register for a mere 90 seconds, and it was nowhere near as busy as it has been in prior times that we've patroned the establishment. We also shared with this woman that we'd only order 4 dishes to go - and by the time we were ordering the final dish, she literally asked us to step out of line & come back later to order once we'd figured things out. I've never had a cashier ask that before. We proceeded to put in our final order and complete the transaction. I made a conscious decision not to include a tip due to the way she was treating us, and when she saw that I hadn't included the tip she gave me a dirty look, turned around and said nothing to us. Not even a "thank you" or "your order will be ready in X minutes". I had to check myself with my wife to see if I was misinterpreting the circumstances, and she responded "no, that was horrible service." When I came back 20 minutes later, this same woman was at the counter and refused to acknowledge me. I was standing 5 feet away, and there was not a single other customer in the market area. She just stood there looking elsewhere & avoiding eye contact. I finally saw the bartender come over and ask me if the order was mine - he picked up my order that had been sitting there and handed it to me.  I've never had an experience like this at Montelupo nor the Focacceria before. To be honest, I've never had an experience like that anywhere. It's hard for me as a paying customer to feel welcome in an establishment where the mentality of the cashier is adversarial toward patrons. It's very clear to me that the customer service at Montelupo has a long way to go to catch up to the quality of the food being served there. When I shared this feedback directly with Montelupo's management team, they never even responded. Clearly, they don't care about their patrons. I sadly won't be returning to Montelupo again as a customer - I value the money I work hard to earn, and want to spend it at businesses that value me as a customer.

They're open on Mondays, which is rare since many restaurants are closed, so it was nice to try it before leaving. My sister ordered the spaghetti and cheese with two large meatballs, garlic bread, and the Chicago beef with Italian sausage, and both were great. The meatballs were especially delicious. I just wish more were included, though extras are available to order. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan sandwich which was very cheesey and flavorful. Afterward, we noticed you can add pepperoni and make it a "Chicken Parmeroni," which sounds like a better option. The large antipasta salad with balsamic vinegar was fresh and tasty, and it's nice that you can choose your dressing . I really love the antipasta salad! Overall, a really enjoyable meal and definitely worth recommending! Wish there had been time to try more of the menu.

Because the food was so damn good. Look - I'm going to start off by saying I grew up practically on The Hill. Out here, you'll have to Google it (make sure to add 'RI' to the search or you'll get some political BS), but back east, "alls you's have ta say" was those two words and anyone would know you knew your Italian, food and otherwise. There isn't anything on this coast that vaguely compares to The Hill's food, but walking into and biting out of Geraldi's was having a little piece of home. There's this little shop in the old town where the owner knew your voice when you called to order... you'd walk in, and you heard "hey cousin!" whether you were or not, and that's the vibe you get from Geraldi's. The food is much the same - you get something that looks like Nonna was at the range all day with her sauce (it's not gravy - no meat) and you came home looking like you haven't eaten in weeks: "I'm gonna fatten you up before you leave" and you walked out the door with a sub (sandwich, that is - not a submarine) that weighed the same as a newborn. We got three of those babies: a Chicago Beef (seal of approval from the orderer - only 'complaint' was that they had to eat it all in one day because the bread was quote too soggy to make it to lunch the next day - travesty), an Italian sausage (just as delicious when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and a Chicken Parmeroni (I thought somehow even better when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and I could have absolutely gone back the next day if it weren't for A. the leftovers 2/3 of us had and B. the meal planning we'd done for the week. I also grabbed a side of giardiniera because I will get it anytime I see it available and I inhaled it - I need to know if I can by it by the vat instead of the side cups because it too was similar to what I can find at home (about practically nowhere out here) and amazing!! I'm still upset I didn't take pictures though!

I am not a fan of reheated pasta and I cannot eat a vat of pasta in a sitting. I discovered I could order a kid size fettuccine alfredo. I always order a side of spinach and a meatball. I was disappointed in everything but flat out shocked at the meatball. The 'side' of spinach in the pasta. There were maybe 3 leaves of spinach and they charged me $1 per leaf. The pasta had almost no flavor. At least there was a side of parmesan because it added a little bit for flavor on the noodles but I did not bother eating much. I figured I would eat some of the bread. The side of garlic bread was cooked to complete hardness... I appreciate it toasted, but when my fillings are struggling because it's like biting down on a rock... that's not toasted, that's burnt. Which brings me to the meatball which was genuinely split completely open and the meat really looked terrible... like weirdly cooked. Since it was delivered, many would say that the delivery person literally opened the meatball but no... it was sealed by the restaurant and considering it's sitting on top of the pasta - it was 'placed' there intentionally. I cannot imagine someone in a kitchen that serves meals to patrons dumping it in there unless they were assuming that since it's a kid's meal, no one's gonna care. Stuff like that really does make me mad to where I don't think I'm going to order from this restaurant again. That does make me sad because this is the only place that really does Italian food and offers a lot of vegetables you can get with your meal but being charged $17 for a tiny box of food that looks like this. The establishment in question is none other than the divine Grassa, a name that now rolls off the tongue with the same richness as its most indulgent fare. And oh, what fare it is. Here, along the lively stretch of Portland, one may witness noodles brought to life before their very eyes fresh, authentic, and handled with a confidence that borders on audacity. These delicate strands are then enrobed in a mac and cheese so decadently composed, so brazenly elevated, that it dares to redefine comfort itself. And just when one believes it cannot be improved enter the pig belly. Crisp, tender, and unapologetically rich... a finishing touch that transforms the dish into something whispered about in only the most exclusive of circles. Yes, dear reader, this is the sort of indulgence that lingers long after the final bite... the kind that ruins lesser versions without remorse. And so, with that final truth properly set, I take my leave once more. The tales of this fair city draw to a close, but not without leaving behind a most delicious legacy. And a star for cleanliness.
