We visited Mingo for the first time last night for an anniversary dinner. It did not disappoint. Great atmosphere and fantastic food. They had a brisk dinner service for a random Wednesday at the Beaverton Round. Our service was the perfect amount of attentive and knowledgeable. The seasonal specials were creative takes on Italian classics. We chose the bistecca and pesce. The seasonal pnw fish was sole and so tender and crisp paired with perfect spring snap peas and asparagus. The calamari was a decadent start to the celebratory meal. So light and crisp and perfectly paired with the chili aioli. We will definitely be back for date night as I can't wait to try their salads and pizza. read more

Hands down my current favorite restaurant in Beaverton. The lasagna is incredible. The servers are knowledgeable and skilled, the atmosphere is pleasant for an upscale dinner, especially on a warm day when the doors are open to the outside overlooking The Round. read more

I'm giving Mingo 5 stars based on my visit yesterday, I can't think of anything else they could have done better. Had a reservation and the table was ready upon arrival. We requested a table outside because the weather was so perfect and it is quieter outside. Immediately received water, server checked in, brought us samples of the rotating wine special. I had the dinner special, beef short ribs , which don't photograph well but believe me they were amazing. The portion was plenty big! The service was just the right amount of attentive. Saturday night dinner date @ 8 pm. Not super crowded. Nice ambiance, decorated with Christmas lights. We winged it and didn't have a reservation but were seated quickly at a round table towards the back. Clean bathrooms and tables. Beautiful layout of the restaurant. Matthew took care of us. He was friendly and knew the food and drink menu like the back of his hand. He also recommended some chef specials that were not on the menu. We ordered the following. Drinks: $16 - Frosty Pear Margarita - not your avg. Margarita. It's different. Taste, size, flavor $15 - 3 Dots and a Dash - Sweet, refreshing. Food: all these were special orders - Dungeness crab cake - this was delicious. - Chef's special steak with pasta- I should have ordered it medium well. It came medium rare and was super chewy. Three of us had a nice leisurely late lunch on a perfect summer day! The daily ravioli, penne, and the pork dish served over polenta were enjoyed by all. Definitely Clean Plate Club! After having heard about this place from two couples in one week, we decided to check this spot out for our Anniversary dinner. The location was fun - across from a water feature and the Max line. Parking was limited, but available. Our server was good and the food was delicious. This was my first time here and overall it was a good experience but I wasn't impressed with the taste for the price for some dishes. This place for me would be more of a special occasion place for once in a while. Let me explain. Mingo gives off the upscale Italian restaurant vibe with intentional decor, bright open space, and plenty of smiling, knowledgeable, and friendly staff from the hostess and wait staff. They even help you box your leftovers! That was a nice surprise. Now the food. There were definitely some great choices from the group including the Mingo salad (their version for Caesar salad) and I especially enjoyed my beet and Brussels sprouts salad. We got a few things to share such as the gnocchi and the "naked" ravioli which is basically just the spinach and ricotta cheese filling that would normally go into a ravioli. It was too oily for me and I didn't particularly love the taste either. And the gnocchi was a little bit on the mushy side. However, the desserts really saved the day and we all enjoyed the olive cake, chocolate soufflé, and especially the sweet cream gelato! And that house made warm and fluffy focaccia bread! So good! Side note we asked the waitress why there was a "reading is sexy" picture that is on the menu because it seems to be very random. She explained that it was the owners way of being cheeky/funny that a lot of complaints about food and ingredients but it was mostly because they didn't read the menu correctly. Reading is fundamental folks! Overall a special place with good food if you order the right things. I will probably be back to try the lasagna and pizza next time. We really enjoyed Mingo, and our server was super friendly and delightful. By the time we got there a few things were actually sold out, so we had to order alternatives - not a bad thing. All of our party enjoyed their food. We shared a Caesar salad - which was EXCELLENT and a nice shareable portion (or get your own and call it a meal). On a Friday the place was crazy packed, and loud. We did have a reservation so I'm guessing that helped. There's more parking than I realized on the plaza side of the restaurant. While I'm not sure, there's a chance the cannellini beans (part of the salmon dish) may have been cooked with some kind of meat? It could have been the smoked paprika, but just in case ask your server if you don't eat meat (or are pescatarian) - I didn't, wish I had. read more

You can tell this is the locals spot right as you walk in. Walking in was a beautiful ambiance with very delightful atmosphere. We were greeted within seconds with bright smiles and ready to help, this service kept on through the whole night throughout our meal. For me, the best thing about the restaurant was the decor. The tables were widely spaced, which, along with drapes which could be pulled across the restaurant at intervals served to make the space feel more intimate as well as reduce the sound. The floor, table tops and chairs were of wood, which created a feeling of warmth, while a wall display of what seemed to be Italian plates added to the homey feeling. So far, so good. I had located a menu online but found that neither of the items I had looked forward to enjoying were currently being served in the restaurant. My waiter seemed grumpy when I expressed my disappointment. I imagine that he might also might have been disappointed to find a single diner occupying a three-top table, which would likely yield him less tip than he might have hoped. The Zuppa del Giorno, a lentil soup with pork sausage, was definitely the high point of the meal. The waiter seemed indifferent to satisfying my curiousity about the lentils. They looked the same as the common sort that I cook with, but were smaller. I learned that this restaurant orders only green lentils. The salad, a comely cordwod-like stack of fresh romaine leaves, was a pleasure to contemplate but didn't take kindly to my cutting it into bitesize pieces with the serrated steak knife furnished at my request. The salad dressing and crouton were satisfyingly garlic-heavy and plentiful, but nothing to write home about. Since nothing else on the menu struck my fancy, I opted for another "salad," the Cavolini. It would be just the thing for the person who likes cooked Brussel sprout hash with chunks of pancetta. Unfortunately, not my thing. It was greasy/oily. The cheese shavings and sunny side up egg on top tried to save it, but I ate strictly from hunger, not pleasure. Given as a recommendation by a local, we nabbed a late reservation at Mingo on a Saturday evening. A fall menu was presented to us and it really was challenging to select a dish. My colleague and I split a Bruschetta del Fungi - if you are mushroom lover, then this is a great choice. Served warm on grilled bread, the ricotta cheese and truffle oil give the mushrooms a zap of flavor. For my main, I opted for the Orecchiette - house made rabbit sausage, roasted butternut squash - in a marsala cream sauce - wow. It was divine. The flavors were a perfect mix of sweet and savory. We've been going to Cafe Mingo for years, and I'm afraid it's starting to get tired. We were in a party of four a week ago on 10/21/25 for a 5:30 reservation. Early enough to expect the kitchen to be at the top of their game. I ordered the Penne al Sugo di Carne, a Go To order for a fail safe enjoyable meal. As soon as it was served I could see it was dry. It looked like it had been sitting around since a previous guest sent it back to the kitchen from lunch time. I too should have spoken up and sent it back, but everyone had been served. I didn't want to create an awkward scene where everyone else is eating, offering to share their meals, and I end up eating alone by the time a fresh meal makes it back to the table. We just had our 26th wedding anniversary dinner at Mingo and I have such mixed feelings. The good: great food, great service, and a very pretty restaurant. But it was LOUD. Really loud. So loud that we spent our entire "romantic" dinner either yelling "It's really loud in here" at each other across the table or sitting there looking around because it was too loud to have a conversation. I get that it's the holiday season and they were full, but the sound level was ridiculous. And this is an expensive restaurant, our bill for 2 people was over $160 and I only had an appetizer and salad. To not be able to hear each other was so disappointing. I'm on the fence about the rating, it was a 5 star meal with 1 star ambiance so I'm sadly giving 3 stars. I don't know if we'll return, which is sad because otherwise it was great. read more

A phenomenal first experience at Mingo in Beaverton. I was shocked to hear that they opened in 2004, but my daughter and I made a point to visit Mingo's last night. I have to rave about the service before I get into the food. Bri could not have been a nicer, more genuine server. It was fun to hear of her past from Iowa and Nebraska. Bri was quite knowledgeable of the food and bar menu, and her timing was perfect. We started with a cocktail from the bar menu. My daughter had the Mingo Drop and I had the Louie Lychee. Both were excellently balanced and flavorful. We also had the Lagone Super Tuscan and it complimented our meals perfectly. Regarding the food, we started with the Arancini's and they were fun. Then we shared a Mingo Salad, their version of a Caesar salad. It was huge and we still didn't finish. Our main courses were simply perfect. My daughter had the daily ravioli feature and I had the Sugo...penne pasta with beef braised in chianti and expresso. They were both excellent. We will definitely return, as the food was that good, and I will also request that Bri is our server. read more

We do not understand; we did not reserve a table at McDonald's and were expecting a level of service commensurate with there's reputation and our own loyal history. The calamari came with a flavorful sauce and was not too fishy, and the olive oil cake was perfect. I had heard great things about Mingo and that it was potentially Portlands best Italian faire. I made a reservation as tables are sparse on busy nights. We were seated promptly and greeted by our table host. The drink menu has something for everyone from.a great wine selection to mocktails. A few of the specials had already sold out (ordering around 7:00pm on a Saturday night) but this was something we expected coming in. We ordered a ravioli special and what I had hoped was their classic lasagna. I received the lasagna special which I made the best of but hope to try their house version at some point. Our two appetizers were good but neither would be part of an encore. This must be my season for second chances. I've had good experiences here in the past but haven't been back for a while. On this gorgeous, sunny, blustery fall day I decided to try them again and had a wonderful time. I wanted to start with a nice, authentic Italian wine (and knew nothing about the wines listed on the menu) so I asked the bartender what a few of them were like. She gave a very rich description of both and greatly helped me find the one I liked. I enjoyed a simple, but very tasty salad and the ravioli. They have a nice cocktail menu so I tried the Black Manhattan since I'm a big fan of Amaro and it was delightful. For desert I had the Torta Olive Oil Cake. I probably wouldn't have tried that if I just saw it on the menu but a couple next to me had one it it looked delicious so I tried it. This must be one of the best desert inventions ever! It is nice and light and not too sweet. Just a delightful desert you'll never regret. They have a nice list of Amaros on their desert menu so I finished my evening with a glass of Averna. Before I left, the bartender (sorry I don't recall her name) gave me a few suggestions for some other Amaros I might try and even gave me a sample of one that I had mentioned. I really, really, really appreciate that kind of service! That's the kind of experience that I'm looking for when I go out. So now I have plans for my next trip to Mingo :) read more

An unfortunate and most likely the last experience at Mingo. We brought a first-time guest tonight and sat at the bar. Our intent was to just have a round. We ended up keeping it to just that, because of the service from the bar server, a gentleman wearing a powder blue shirt. He asked if this was our first visit. I replied on behalf of me and my wife, "no". We have frequented Mingo for many years, though running our own local restaurant have been too busy to visit any other place for many months. Drinks ordered, the gentleman then informed us of the food specials. "Lasagna... with beef, which is from a cow." Have you ever been presented with this line? "And beets, which are purple". Fair, as there are a myriad of beet colors but wow, let's keep it to ensuring we are aware of the color of said beets. "And finally, a special with Zenner's Sausage", and he went on to explain it is a local meat producer. Yes, I have purchased them at Winco, Timbers and Hops games too. He asked again if we'd been in before. This pushed me over the top, as employees that know us had already greeted us, management recognized us at the door, and the gentleman's coworkers visually and verbally all greeted us as regulars. I commented under my breath that we had been profiled for our attire. He asked if we were upset, and I confirmed I was displeased with his treatment of our party. Then, the gentleman confirmed my assumption. "So, do you work at _____ pub?", based on the logo on my clothing. "No, I'm off shift and this is a hoodie that fits. I am an owner of _____", unzipping the hoodie and showing the gentleman my branded company shirt. I cashed us out and tipped the staff well. This is now the second time I have been directly judged by staff who apparently have not been trained well. Please don't bother writing back. Just do better at training your employees to not judge customers they are not familiar with. I would have kept this private, but last time the owner personally wrote back to me with a very rude reply, and this time our experience needs to be documented publicly. read more
