We go there on weekend once in a while. They're not very crowded on Sunday. We got seated immediately. I like their food that is not super salty like some other Italian restaurant. The pizza is loaded with toppings. Pasta portion is very big. My mom and I can't finish our dish. We get to take them home to enjoy the food the next day.

I don't usually like to do reviews on delivery orders on yelp, but every now and then you get a place that their food is way incredible. I had to rave about this place because of that. I ordered Shrimp Alfredo and a pizza. I've never been there but I imagine the Ambiance there is amazing. This is a must go to place. So me a favor and try it if you want real Italian food.

I Love their food the chicken soup is clearly home made and the sandwiches are an amazing deal. They have spumonie that is a scoop of each, cherry , pistachio and chocolate. I will never feel the same about the mixed spumoni.

One of the best Italian place in Portland Area!! Very authentic. It always has a line though

Spaghetti with half mushroom sauce and half meat sauce.

I wheel in the front door the doors are hard to navigate you open one door you go uphill to the next door. Awkward. I have been here before there are always people waiting in line for to go orders for pizza. I wait a minute or two and I am seating. My seat next to the front door facing a wall. I asked if I could be seated at another place they said if you can sit in a booth if not this is all we have. I take the seat facing the wall. I asked to be seated in the back area I was told it was not open. Only a few minutes later they open the back area literally I was served water at that point my wine did not arrive nor my wait person. I ordered the spaghetti and wine. The wine Villa Pozzi Nero D'Avola. A red wine at first I smelled diesel fuel... just sitting in the glass. But it opened up as the meal progressed. Turned out to be a decent wine. It is from Southern Italy, Sicily. All respect to the wine makers and the choice from Giovanni's. The wait staff part of the family very knowledgeable about Italy they still have family in the heel of the boot. The spaghetti and sauce. I had ordered half mushroom and half meat sauce. I could not find the meat sauce. So I guess that there was an error on the delivery. The spaghetti itself lots of water in the base of the plate. Overall I would not order that again. The garlic toast. Is that toast or even bread? The decor some really nice pictures on the wall. The music drowned out by the noise. Most of the staff dressed run slightly worn black clothes. Never been my favorite but the customers all seem happy and even the dinners. The wait staff knows the menu. Will I ever go back... yes for the pizza.

3/19/2024 - The cannoli was so amazing! Too bad the pizza was extremely burnt - so gross.
    Mikhail H.

I don't crave pizza often which is likely because we really do not have great pizza options around. It is mostly a creation that is not horrible but just makes you long for really good pizza. My expectations are pretty low when I am craving it. I wanted an ok pizza delivered and when scrolling through the app for some food delivered I decided to give Giovanni's a go because the used the magic word 'cannoli' and that is something I cannot get at any other pizza place, to the best of my knowledge. I have to say that if I was going off the cannoli alone I would be reporting five stars because those were amazing!! Something I cannot forgive is burnt pizza... the smell alone. That is what was sent to me and for the amount of money the charge for pizza that pisses me off more. It also means I am not going to bother trying to go to your restaurant again. I ordered a margarita figuring I was in for a treat from a place I had been meaning to try for awhile and was excited until it arrived. It is even worse for delivery because I am not going to stiff my delivery person for the restaurant screwing up so now I have no dinner or have to pay to get something from somewhere else pushing out food etc... when at a place you can complain and send it back. I was genuinely shocked seeing a near BLACK pizza when I opened the box - like what did I do to piss of the cook because this is not just slightly overcooked but BURNT... I have included photos.

Randomly stumbled upon this place when we were looking for Italian restaurants in the area. They quoted us a 20-25 min wait on a Saturday night, but we probably waited no more than 10 minutes before they seated us at a booth. I ordered the fettuccine al pesto and it came with a side salad and garlic bread. I upgraded to cheese garlic bread. If you like cheese - ask for the upgrade because it's worth it! It was about a 40 minute wait for our food once we sat down, but it didn't feel that long because we had side salads to tide us over in the meantime. Service was excellent and they constantly kept my water glass filled. Come hungry because the portions are BIG. If I could eat here again, I'd definitely get the pizza instead. I saw another table order some and it looked delicious. Parking is available in a small lot outside the restaurant. If you don't see any spots open, just wait a minute and someone will leave because I noticed they do A LOT of takeout orders. Last thing is the place smells amazing - tons of garlic in the air.

For adult drinks we had an excellent Next Level IPA brewed & branded for Montelupo, Rose special and glass of House Red wine. Because the food was so damn good. Look - I'm going to start off by saying I grew up practically on The Hill. Out here, you'll have to Google it (make sure to add 'RI' to the search or you'll get some political BS), but back east, "alls you's have ta say" was those two words and anyone would know you knew your Italian, food and otherwise. There isn't anything on this coast that vaguely compares to The Hill's food, but walking into and biting out of Geraldi's was having a little piece of home. There's this little shop in the old town where the owner knew your voice when you called to order... you'd walk in, and you heard "hey cousin!" whether you were or not, and that's the vibe you get from Geraldi's. The food is much the same - you get something that looks like Nonna was at the range all day with her sauce (it's not gravy - no meat) and you came home looking like you haven't eaten in weeks: "I'm gonna fatten you up before you leave" and you walked out the door with a sub (sandwich, that is - not a submarine) that weighed the same as a newborn. We got three of those babies: a Chicago Beef (seal of approval from the orderer - only 'complaint' was that they had to eat it all in one day because the bread was quote too soggy to make it to lunch the next day - travesty), an Italian sausage (just as delicious when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and a Chicken Parmeroni (I thought somehow even better when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and I could have absolutely gone back the next day if it weren't for A. the leftovers 2/3 of us had and B. the meal planning we'd done for the week. I also grabbed a side of giardiniera because I will get it anytime I see it available and I inhaled it - I need to know if I can by it by the vat instead of the side cups because it too was similar to what I can find at home (about practically nowhere out here) and amazing!! I'm still upset I didn't take pictures though!

Beef was a little dry for being in the au jus but still good, big chucks of chicken breast with flavorful sauce was also good. Will be back to try one of the cold sandwiches next.

I am not a fan of reheated pasta and I cannot eat a vat of pasta in a sitting. I discovered I could order a kid size fettuccine alfredo. I always order a side of spinach and a meatball. I was disappointed in everything but flat out shocked at the meatball. The 'side' of spinach in the pasta. There were maybe 3 leaves of spinach and they charged me $1 per leaf. The pasta had almost no flavor. At least there was a side of parmesan because it added a little bit for flavor on the noodles but I did not bother eating much. I figured I would eat some of the bread. The side of garlic bread was cooked to complete hardness... I appreciate it toasted, but when my fillings are struggling because it's like biting down on a rock... that's not toasted, that's burnt. Which brings me to the meatball which was genuinely split completely open and the meat really looked terrible... like weirdly cooked. Since it was delivered, many would say that the delivery person literally opened the meatball but no... it was sealed by the restaurant and considering it's sitting on top of the pasta - it was 'placed' there intentionally. I cannot imagine someone in a kitchen that serves meals to patrons dumping it in there unless they were assuming that since it's a kid's meal, no one's gonna care. Stuff like that really does make me mad to where I don't think I'm going to order from this restaurant again. That does make me sad because this is the only place that really does Italian food and offers a lot of vegetables you can get with your meal but being charged $17 for a tiny box of food that looks like this. The establishment in question is none other than the divine Grassa, a name that now rolls off the tongue with the same richness as its most indulgent fare. And oh, what fare it is. Here, along the lively stretch of Portland, one may witness noodles brought to life before their very eyes fresh, authentic, and handled with a confidence that borders on audacity. These delicate strands are then enrobed in a mac and cheese so decadently composed, so brazenly elevated, that it dares to redefine comfort itself. And just when one believes it cannot be improved enter the pig belly. Yes, dear reader, this is the sort of indulgence that lingers long after the final bite... the kind that ruins lesser versions without remorse.
