A 5pm reservation would make one think, quality service and a fresh hot kitchen! Well something certainly has changed in the last few months because we received neither! After explaining to our server how excited we were to be there for Mother's Day and how it was our parents first visit we placed an order of 3 appetizers (all more bland and less hot than they should be) - keep in mind the restaurant was mostly empty. As we waited for our entrees (an unusually long time) our server didn't check on drinks or water. When 3 of our 4 entrees did come out, we waited for the 4th as manners would expect. Five minutes, 10 minutes, still nothing. When I finally was able to flag down our server there was some excuse about "mixed up tickets" and that a "manager would be right over." 15 more minutes, all were done with their meals as my husband still awaited his entree. No manager, no server. Completely unacceptable. As my sweet husband cut into his filet, completely over cooked and rubbery, was supposed to be medium- he dare not send it back as everyone else was done and he felt terrible. To make matters worse, my father's fish, was loaded with blood line, ruining the flavor of the meat of the snapper. The least they could do was send a manager over. $200 later- (no alcohol) we will definitely never be back and you shouldn't waste your time or money either. There are plenty of other great restaurants around that will take far better care of you and your family.

You can see exactly what a French or Italian bistro looks like by simply visiting this beautiful restaurant. Cozy, cute, quaint, classic, charming are just a few of the words to describe Casa Bella. Placing your restaurant in a little cottage provides the advantage of little cozy rooms, quaint corners tucked away and an ambiance that can't be matched in a modern build. If you're tired of all those hip modern contemporary restaurants that blast that loud metro music, this place is for you. The Service: A wait staff that is always there when you need them but yet somehow not seen or heard unless you want them to be. A staff that keeps your glasses full and your every request satisfied as soon as requested. That's what you'll enjoy at Casa Bella. The Food: Although our party of four did not try any of the appetizers, our salad's and minestrone soups were top notch. As a child who grew up with an Italian mom, we regularly had hearty bowls of minestrone soup. Although Casa Bella's soup tasted just as I remembered, it was one of the few offerings where Casa Bella fell short. Not because the soup wasn't well made but, because it was barely warm. While I'm at it, I might as well mention the other area that Casa Bella was not up to snuff and that was the bread. My dad would often say, you can tell how good your meal is going to be by the quality of the bread and salad. The salads were excellent but thank goodness the bread wasn't a precursor of what the rest of our meal would be like. The bread consisted of a small dry tasteless roll. It screamed for garlic, butter or perhaps just being fresher. Everyone at our table took a bite and left the rest. Too bad because as you'll see as you read on, it's a shame the bread simply didn't match the rest of our dining experience. The soup issue can be easily rectified with a bit of heat. The bread however, needs to be changed to match the rest of the meal. For our entree's, we enjoyed Veal Marsala, Chicken Marsala, Casa Bella Chicken and Rigatoni's with a side of sausage. Every dish was perfectly crafted and beautifully presented. The Rigatoni was al dente, as it should be. The accompanying sausage was snappy and juicy also as it's meant to be. The veal was oh so tender on a wonderful bed of Angel Hair Pasta. The chicken in both the Chicken Marsala and Casa Bella Chicken was cooked to perfection. The serving sizes guaranteed the ability to take home doggy bags that assured another night of Italian deliciousness. Our desserts were special not only in taste but, in their beautiful presentation. We chose the chocolate cake, Tartuffo, and Cannoli. The chocolate cake was super most and big enough for another nights enjoyment. The Tartuffo's were perfectly made with a delicious chocolate coating, creamy chocolate and vanilla ice cream and a raspberry surprise in the center. The Cannoli featured a delightfully crisp shell and a lusciously creamy filling. The Bottom Line: My traditional "Customer So What"... Would I come back? You bet I will. Luis and his wife Jenn, the owners, are incredibly gracious hosts and have always made us feel more like family than customers. They also really know their wine, and that has become one of our favorite parts of going to The Grove. From our very first visits, they somehow remembered what we liked. We've gotten to the point where we don't even ask for a wine list anymore. We just tell them to choose for us, and they hit a home run every single time. This particular night was extra special because our friends drove almost an hour to join us for the birthday celebration and had never been to The Grove before. Of course, when you rave about a restaurant and convince friends to drive that far, you're secretly hoping it lives up to everything you've told them. It absolutely did. We started by sharing several appetizers, including the calamari and mozzarella bread, and then everyone went in different directions for dinner. We had veal Marsala, veal Parmesan, a shrimp Caesar salad and mushroom risotto for our vegetarian friend. Every single person at the table loved their meal. Then came dessert, which may have been my favorite part of the entire night. Along with a variety of desserts, we had these wonderful little Italian pastries, and Luis and Jenn suggested a particular dessert wine and told us to dip the pastries into it. They state that for the past 16 years they have used fresh ingredients in all their dishes and you'll notice that fact in every dish. The Ambiance: This lovely little restaurant reminds me of the bistro's I enjoyed in Venice. Get there early as it's always packed and there's not that many tables. They also offer several tables for outside dining. The Service: La Forchetta lost a star here as the service was slow and perfunctory at best. Our server couldn't seem to get her act together and seemed to be flustered by anything out of the norm. If I was to guess, having owned a few restaurants myself, I'd guess she was new and overworked having more tables than she could handle. The Food: A good sign of the quality of your meal is the quality of the salad and bread. Although this time we skipped the salad, the bread, or more precisely the garlic rolls featured the perfect balance of garlic butter and were good enough to be a meal unto themselves. After gorging on the rolls, we decided to share the calamari which turned out to be oh so crispy, and unlike so many other overly chewy offerings, was mouth watering tender. For our entrees, we chose the Penne pasta which was made al dente and featured a wonderfully robust bolognese sauce. Our second entree was the lobster filled raviolis which featured an amply filled fresh lobster covered in a creamy pink sauce. For desert we shared the house specialty tiramisu which was good but not necessarily memorable. The Bottom Line: As with all my reviews my "customer so what" would I come back... the answer is yes, because the food was so good, we'd try it again and hopefully the service would be up to the food.
