Steakhouse Peter's is one of those places that has been on my radar for a while now, so we finally had the opportunity to give them a try. There are a lot of reviews out there as this place has been in business a long time. You have to be doing something right in my opinion and well, they are good and they are meh - depends on your expectations I suppose. The story goes that Peter used to work at Peter Lugers in NYC - the holy grail of US Steakhouses. Does working at the best steakhouse in the US qualify you in any way to run a steakhouse? Not sure. But there were definitely things at Peter's that were spot-on as compared to Lugers. The place is set off the beaten path in Jensen Beach. Sort of a tropical vibe looking building and the decor inside is somewhat dated and hard to describe - beachy / Ocktoberfest is maybe the best way to put it. The staff consisted of three ladies the night we were there (a Saturday) and like that Meatloaf song goes, two our of three ain't bad. Two were just super friendly and personable - the third one just looked miserable. They all hit our table at one point or another during the evening and #3 just was not there mentally. she wasn't rude or anything - just blah. We got started with a nice glass of wine - the wine list is decent - not overly pretentious and there is something there for every price point. The menu is steakhouse standard with a few German dishes tossed in there - fine by me. Those are very complimentary cuisines. We started off with the escargot and the "Peter's special salad". Escargot came out swimming in a garlic sauce on top of a flaky pastry - a new spin on an old classic and it had enough garlic to lower you blood pressure like 50 points - outstanding. Salad was large and was enough for the both of us to work with. I went with the Porterhouse for two (med-rare), with sauteed mushrooms and Peter's hash browns. Steak was cooked perfectly and presentation was wonderful. The Hash browns were also a hit but the sauteed mushrooms lacked any flavor- I expected something a lot more sauteed looking - deep, dark in color and these were just meh. The meat is the star here and these steaks definitely hit the mark in terms of flavor and tenderness. All in all a very good night out. Prices were steakhouse specific and they offer valet parking. The crowd is older and the one they they did not have was a free standing bar- that is sort of a missed opportunity in my opinion, and a massive crowd generator in steakhouses in the north. Definitely give it shot if looking or a really good steak - those are exceedingly hard to come by on the Treasure coast. We hadn't been to Peter's in a few years. Excited to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday we returned. When I say this is one of the worst meals we have ever eaten, I mean it. I'm so sad to write this review. The food use to be AMAZING. I'm not sure if they got new cooks or what, the food was bland, the service was horrible. This used to be our go to place for anniversary and birthday celebrations. We won't ever be back. The mushrooms had to have been from a can with a sprinkle of parsley. The Brussels were way over cooked with a sprinkle of bacon. When I called after dinner to talk to Peter, to inform him of our experience, the hostess told me they were too busy and to call back. Extremely disappointed! The waiter was unfamiliar with the menu, informed us wine and beer only, did not know what beers were offered. My husband wanted a certain beer was told they did not have it, then saw another customer with that beer. We like to have bourbon with dinner, but was told only wine and beer and another customer was offered a bourbon. There was a large party on top of us and they kept standing over our table, all we saw were their backsides over our table. Our steak was undercooked but by that time we were so frustrated we just wanted to eat. we have been going here for over 10 years and we have now noticed the decline, no white tablecloths, no placemats and no more familiar Waite staff. read more

Established steak house but a little disappointed with the food. Per the servers recommendation, ordered steak tartare, it was literally ground beef without the proper ingredients. Had to ask for capers and onions and even though it's minced/ground, it still required seasoning. Was very rich and needed acid. The schnitzel was delicious but it doesn't offer any sauce. The server asked if I wanted a sunny side egg and capers, but neglected to advise that it was an additional 6.00. Crab cakes were tasty but dry. Needed alot of lemon. Fillet mignon was very good. They do not use any salt to season the entrees and the table salt doesn't cut it after the fact. They charge extra 3% for credit cards so bring cash and for the free valet's tip. read more

Very unfortunate as it was our 49th wedding anniversary, and my husband thought he would surprise me with a wonderful dining experience... The food was mediocre at best. Lobster was overcooked and over salted. Brussels were burnt to a crisp. Service was also mediocre. Definitely overpriced for the dining experience. Ambience was nonexistent, felt as though we were eating in a less than optimal assisted living facility decorated with yard sale left overs. Will not be returning... once and done. read more

Our favorite steak house. The service her is unmatched. The steak for two is on a whole different level. This place is a gem. My husband and I love Peter Lugar's Steakhouse in New York. We travel there annually for dinner. This was the next best thing, especially without having to pay for a plane ticket. Everything was incredible but the top things I would like to note on would be the sauce, the bread service, the bisque, the bratwurst, and the bacon. Incredible date night trip! read more

You are very welcome! I will be bringing my wife there tonight for her birthday. We went back tonight and had a wonderful meal at Peter's. Starting the meal off with the breads and lobster bisque was a great idea. It was amazing!! The 24oz ribeye was perfect! The garlic mashed potatoes were splendid and my wife said that her salmon and creamed spinach were delicious! Topping it all off with an Apple strudel was delightful. Ken was very attentive and pleasant. My wife had a very nice dinner and I want to thank you for helping me make it special for her. We will be back! read more

Service is good but these prices resemble those from real high end restaurants with significantly better atmosphere, wine selection, service, ingredient quality, and preparation. I do see where some people can be bamboozled by this place, I get it, but any discerning steak lover, or anyone who understands what a real high end restaurant should deliver, will (and should) just pass on by this place and save your money and time. read more

We were very excited to come to this restaurant, we are from the Naples area, where there is a similar restaurant with the Peter Luger vibe... Called Andres. We even mentioned this when we arrived. Our server had a terrible attitude, could not be bothered to describe the different dishes, when I asked about the half roast chicken... She said it's chicken... It's just chicken. We were then ignored in favor of the regulars that seem to enjoy this place... We were so looking forward to this exceptional meal and it did not hold a candle to either Andre's or Peter Luger's. read more

This place is like stepping into a Time Capsule and you're in 1980. From the decor which seems to be European, to the presentation of food, and selections. I don't think anything has changed since. We reserved a table for 3 on Thanksgiving weekend for a special occasion, my wife had seen some local reviews for this place and we decided to give it a try. We live in Stuart. We ordered steaks and lamb, and then Al la cart for veggies and sides, much like a Morton's would be, all that was fine. The lamb arrived rare, which was not what was ordered, and needed to be returned. The fillet I ordered had zero flavor. It tasted like meat that was cooked without preparation, and was not enjoyed, ordered béarnaise to give it a bit of taste but that was not pleasant either. The other steak, a ribeye was also flavorless. My steak tasted like the flat iron it was seared on. For the cost of the meal, the experience was not expected. I do not recommend this place for dinner. My family and I will not return as there are literally dozens of steak houses that are so much better. I definitely don't mind paying top price for good food, but this place was incredibly disappointing. read more

We looked forward to visiting Peter's for our first visit for a long time. The staff were all wonderful! From the phone call to tithe receiving staff, the valet gentleman, Frederica and all the waiting staff went above and beyond and made our visit a pleasure. The bread, Peter's salad and Brussels sprouts dishes were all delicious. The steaks were ok. The 24 oz ribeye was medium rare (as ordered) in certain parts but sort of burnt in other parts. The 6 oz filet and lobster were good, except for the rock salt on the lobster. The taste of the steaks were ok. The ambience was nice, dated but part of the charm. My husband and I have had a few dinners here in the past and never had food/service like we had the other night. It's our 21st anniversary and we had a reservation at 7:30. We brought our own wine ($100 bottle of Caymus that we were saving for a special occasion). We were seated and she asked if she could open the wine ($35 corking fee, most are $25 but whatever) we said yes, and she did and brought new glasses. She NEVER asked if we wanted to decanter the wine, I was going to suggest because I knew it had sediment in the bottom but figured she knew what to do and I'll just keep my mouth shut. We ordered an appetizer and soup to start, both were pretty good (the onion and tomato plate were cut VERY thick, and as my husband says "lazy") but we finished those and ordered dinner. We ordered the ribeye Med/Rare and the roasted chicken and 4 sides, because we couldnt make up our mind. We were told it would take a little longer because the chicken takes longer to roast, which was fine, we had a nice bottle of wine and didnt mind sitting. When it finally came out, she served us the steak, it was Medium Well, at best. Hardly any pink. I should have complained but at that point it was 8:30ish and the waitress already seemed annoyed we were still there. The chicken was very dry and had no taste. My husband asked for flake salt to season all of our food, it was all fairly bland. I was served the breast and my husband the thigh ... for him to say its dry with a dark meat piece is saying a lot, but same with the breast meat. The sides were fine, no complaints about them. We finished our meal, and she came to pour the rest of the wine, a different waitress was helping us at this point (they seemed to be working together) and said "oh boy, this needs to be filtered!" to which I said, Yes, I was wondering if you were going to do that. She filtered my husbands but not mine, which was poured before the realization. We ordered dessert (strudel) to go with the last bit of wine we had and started eating it. I probably had three sips of wine left in my glass when i realized all the sediment I had in my mouth from the sip I just took. There was no way I could drink the rest, it was all pieces from the bottom of the bottle. The last of my wine was ruined, which was disappointing. All she had to do was filter it/aerate it into a decanter from the beginning. I would assume that was the $35 fee should go towards. Sadly I doubt we'd go back. For the two of us we had a $250 bill, mind you with no alcohol added, and for that amount I expect more. read more

My fiance and I have been coming here for many years when we r in the area. We have always found the food and service exceptional. Tonite I had my birthday dinner here and as usual our dinner was excellent. Our waiter Ken was very personable and provided amazing service. As I walked out the door, I made a comment that it was raining again. The owner Peter heard me, went into the restaurant, grabbed an umbrella and escorted me to my fiance's car. Special Salad for App- tasty but too much dressing imo Ordered the porterhouse for 2. Ordered it Medium Rare. Sear was Excellent! The middle was cold. When I addressed it with the waitress she told me that's how it was supposed to be for medium rare. My best guess is it wasn't allowed to rest before cooking and that's what caused the stark temp difference between the outside and center of steak. The cook/owner must have not taken too kindly to the criticism as he proceeded to come out and talk to every table except ours (which is fine). Came here for dinner with my mom a few weeks ago. What a hidden gem this place is! We each ordered a filet mignon, Brussel sprouts, and cheesecake . The food was phenomenal. I usually can't finish my steak in one setting but it was that good. Their homemade steak sauce is also very good! I believe the owner was there greeting all the tables asking about the food. We met him briefly on our way out. He was very nice and all the customers seemed to love him. The atmosphere inside is super cozy, clean, welcoming, and the staff is attentive and friendly. We were there Saturday after Thanksgiving. One of my guests was a steak fanatic. Party of 4. Early and empty. The "Special" Lobster shrimp bisque was soup base with yesterdays shrimp cocktail cut up in the bottom. Shared salad - extra charge. Steak for 3 for 4 - extra charge. Also no mention. Steak with no seasoning, no flavor, no natural juices. just butter pool. Waitress says if it's not hot enough just stick it back on the hot plate. Desserts - chocolate mousse cake and carrot cake. Waitress brings over Schlage and serves it to both, even though customer said I don't want Schlage on my carrot cake. There is an extra charge for whipped cream. Whipped cream was not sweetened and chunky -almost to butter. Like they rewhipped yesterdays. We did not eat it. Told waitress Exactly that. She goes to back to kitchen and says loudly, "the customer didn't like the Schlage". But she still charged us for it. As well as adding 3% credit card fee and 20% tip to the check before asking how we would be paying and not being responsive to problems. We were paying cash. There is 18% tip applied for parties of 5 or more per menu. G We had been there before and were told Peter gets his aged steaks from the Original Peter Lugers. New York should cut this restaurant off. What they are doing very expensively is criminal. read more

You could tell when you entered the crumbling parking lot that this place is old and tired. The interior although clean and neat reflects the same old style. The food was good, not great. Well I gotta tell you that last night was less than perfect. One waiter for a party of twelve was obviously too much for Karl to handle as we had multiple items amiss throughout meal. I am annoyed that we ordered the special salad for 6 ladies to share and he tripled the order when a double order would have been more than sufficient. Even after the boys had salad and some even had two servings, we still had salad left over! Porterhouse steaks came out overcooked, was dry and tough and flavorless. We've been to the Peter Lugers in New York so it definitely falls short in comparison. Overall not sure that we'll venture back to there anytime soon. read more

1. Steak tartare 3 years ago was excellent, last night it was a mushy mess. Yuk !! 2. Red wine was served in tiny white wine glasses 3. Asked the waitress to change them and it was like it was an imposition 4. Ordered the 6 oz filet, very tender but totally tasteless 5. We had joined 3 friends and I asked for 2 checks and they refused, Said they do not do seperate checks at one table?? 6. The waitress was pouring the wine we ordered by the glass and did a short pour for a lady friend, but said she would be back with more wine, but of course, that never happened. 7. I spoke to the owner and shared the above and all he said was "I have been doing it for 23 years" !! Never said he was sorry and actually acted like he could care less. A shame I can't post zero stars. Four of us ate there this evening (July 3rd) for a friend's birthday. Two steaks ordered medium rare came out well done and had to be recooked. The chicken was dry and overcooked. When we asked to talk to the manager, the person who came to our table spent his time loudly proclaiming how good the food was, then after we asked him to moderate his voice, he raised the volume and threatened to call the police for non-payment of a check we had yet to receive. He wouldn't give his name, but he's the big guy with glasses and spiky hair. For a restaurant charging New York prices, this restaurant is hugely overpriced for the quality of food you receive. read more

Very disappointed in meal. Cannot recommend at all. Where do I start. We had reservations and they trued to seat us by the door even though there were plenty of empty tables. They told us they were full for the evening. We left at 8 and there were still plenty of empty tables mind you they close at 9. Garlic bread arrived cold with chopped raw garlic. Escargot swimming in butter and oil. Then a porterhouse steak for 2 with so much grizzled on the strip side that the steak knives couldn't cut thru. Completely inedible. Brought it to the servers attention And she blamed it on the cow. This was by no means and aged prime steak. In all fairness she did offer to bring another steak which we declined. We paid out bill and left. A cocktail, 2 apps and a steak and we were in and out in less than 50 minutes. The restaurant was relatively empty for in season. Now I know why. When your spending over $200 for dinner for 2 you expect at least an edible meal. Never again. read more

We had heard that Peters was the steak place however, clearly they could drop the steakhouse as my husband's 24oz ribeye, which he ordered medium rare, was received 1st well done ... returned and re-recieved as very rare, Fatty and chewy. He didn't eat it. Meanwhile, upon waiting for his meal to arrive, mine turned cold. The only good point to our meal was the server. She tried hard to manage the meal but it was clearly out of her hands. The owner was there but he seemed uninterested in his patrons being pleased. Sad. I grew up in a family owned restaurant.
